5.PHYSICALCONTACT
Itissometimesnecessarytomakephysicalcontactwithastudent Forexample,itcanbealoteasierforastudent tolearnhowitfeelstohaveacorrecthandshape(le handorbowhold),howitfeelstomakeacorrectmovement (fingering,bowing,shi ing,vibrato),iftheteachercanactuallytakeholdoftheappropriatepartofthehandorarm andmoulditormoveitintherightway
Touchingastudentinthiswayshouldbedoneverysparingly,andperhapsonlyasalastresort. Alwaysaskthe studentfirst,forexample: “DoyoumindifIputyourfingerintherightplaceonthestring?”,“Wouldyoufindit helpfulifImovedyourarmforyoutoshowyouhowthismovementshouldfeel?” Ifyoudotouch,doitpositively andinaprofessionalmannerwithnoembarrassmentorhesitation Beawareofthelimitswithinwhichsuch contactshouldproperlytakeplace Havingmadeyourphysicaldemonstration,moveimmediatelybackoutofthe studentʼsbodyspace.
Allothertouchingiscompletelyunnecessaryandinappropriate:touslinghair,pattingastudent'sback,afriendly touchorputtinganarmroundastudentcouldbemisinterpretedandleadtowrongfulaccusations

6.HOWTORESPONDTOINAPPROPRIATEBEHAVIOURFROMASTUDENT
Anyincidentwhereyoufeelthatyouorastudentmayhavebehavedinappropriatelyorimproperlymustbe reportedimmediatelytotherelevantpersoninauthority(Principal,DeputyPrincipalorDirectorofMusic)and confirmedinwriting.
Ifanyunusual,perhapsaccidental,physicalcontactoccursbetweenyouandastudent,reportitimmediatelythe lessonendsandmakeanoteoftheevents
If,asveryoccasionallydoeshappen,astudentmakessomekindofadvancetowardsyouormakessuggestive remarks,makeitverycleartothestudentthatthiskindofbehaviourisunacceptable Theincidentmustbe reportedimmediatelytothePrincipal,DeputyPrincipalorDirectorofMusicandconfirmedinwriting.
