F3.WhistleBlowingPolicy

Purpose

Intheinterestsofopennessandaccountability, theSchoolencouragesanyonewithseriousconcernstocome forward and voice them. This applies to concerns about the activities of staff, governors and external organisationsintheirdealingswiththeSchool.

ThisPolicy

● Provides the basis onwhichstudents/parentscanraiseanysuchconcernsandreceivefeedbackon actiontaken,

● Allowsstudents/parentstotakethematterfurtheriftheyaredissatisfiedwiththeSchoolʼsresponse,

● Givesprotectionfromreprisalsorvictimisationfor“whistleblowing”ingoodfaith.

Existing policies and procedures are in place to enable employees to raise grievances or for parents and studentstomakeroutinecomplaints. Thispolicyisintendedtocoverconcernsthatfalloutsidethescopeof individualgrievances Theconcernmaybeaboutsomethingthat:

● Isunlawful,

● Iscontrarytotheschoolʼspolicies,

● Amountstoimproperconduct,

● Representsunsatisfactoryconcealmentoftheseissues

Safeguards

TheGoverningBodyrecognisesthatthedecisiontoreportaconcerncanbeadifficultonetomake, notleast because of the fear of reprisals from those allegedly responsible for the malpractice. The School will not tolerateharassmentorvictimisationandwilltakeallpossiblemeasurestoprotectthosewhoraiseconcernsin goodfaith.

Confidentiality

Where possible, the School will protect the identity ofanyonewhoraisesconcernsanddoesnotwanttheir name to be disclosed. It must be appreciated, however, thattheinvestigationmayrevealthesourceofthe information, and statements made may be required as part of the evidence The School encourages the concernedindividualtoputtheirnametoallegationsmade. ● Thepossibilityofuntrueorunsupportedallegations.

If an allegation is made in good faith, but is not confirmed by the investigation, no action will be taken. However, ifallegationsaremadethataremaliciousorvexatious, furtheractionislikely.

HowtoRaiseaConcern

The earlier a concern is raised, the easier it is to take action As a first step, parents should normally raise concerns with the Principal or the ChairmanofGovernors. Thisdepends, ofcourse, ontheseriousnessand sensitivityoftheissuesinvolvedandwhoisthoughttobeinvolvedinthemalpractice. Tocontactamemberof the Governing Body, parents should write to the School care of the Clerk to the Governors, marking the envelope ʻPrivate and Confidentialʼ and the letter will be passed on. If parents feel they cannot approach either of the above, they should approach the Governor with responsibility for Child Protection and Safeguarding,MsSophiaColes..

Concerns are best raised in writing. This should set out the background and history oftheconcern, giving names, datesandplaceswherepossible, andthereasonforconcernaboutthesituation. Ifparentsfeelunable toputtheirconcernsinwriting, theymaytelephoneoraskforameetingwiththeappropriateperson

HowtheSchoolWillRespond

The action taken by the School will depend onthenatureoftheconcern. Themattermay, forexample,be investigated internally or it may be referred to the police or an appropriate statutory agency. In order to protect individuals and the School, initial enquiries will be made to decide whether an investigation is appropriateand, ifso, whatformitshouldtake.
