“Those who are searching for somewhere to nurture and inspire happy, confident children – look no further.” – Good Schools Guide
Welcome Parsons Green Prep is an independent day school in London offering a contemporary education for 200 boys and girls from 4 to 11 years of age. The beautiful building and playgrounds have been carefully designed, over time, to facilitate successful learning, friendships and a strong sense of school community. Our inspiring team of staff delivers positive, well-planned lessons and encourages children to learn, stretch and achieve both academically and pastorally. At PGP, we begin from our youngest classes to gradually equip our children as they progress through the school, giving them the tools they will need to gain entry into competitive senior schools.
“The pupils’ attitudes to learning are excellent. They have extremely well-developed work habits and a positive approach to learning.” – ISI
At Parsons Green Prep, we offer our children a challenging and extensive education in breadth, depth and richness. Our children are well taught and thoroughly prepared for their next school and many are achieving well above national expectations. Our Creative Curriculum aims to give children a rich and varied experience that expands their key skills and knowledge and broadens their interests. We encourage a cross-curricular approach to strengthen and consolidate learning, positively impacting on children’s understanding of topics.
“Well ahead of the curve at primary level in putting STEM subjects at the heart of the maths curriculum.” – Good Schools Guide
Science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) are key subjects for securing positive opportunities and career paths for future generations. We pay attention to integrating STEM across the curriculum, with a view to inspiring and encouraging pupils to develop their enthusiasm and skills in these areas. Through STEM, pupils are taught a valuable set of skills including teamwork, independence, reasoning and critical and creative thinking.
Early Years Foundation Stage “Excellent provision in the EYFS gives children a head start in their education.” – ISI
When your child first joins us in Reception, we provide a creative, safe and nurturing environment in which they can enjoy learning. As they progress through the school, academic endeavour becomes increasingly challenging. Each child is supported on this journey, while giving them the room to think laterally and independently. At PGP, we carefully track and monitor the progress of every child in all subjects from the youngest class to Year 6. Our assessment systems are stateofthe-art. This enables us to measure children’s performance against other independent schools across the country and internationally.
“Chess is huge here, deliberately encouraged to develop logical thinking.” – Good Schools Guide
We inspire our younger children to begin playing chess from Year 1, where they are able to join the Chesslings Club. For Years 3 to 6 chess is part of the school day. We teach the rules and tactics of chess and follow the curriculum outlined in the Systematic Study of Chess. In addition to this, all players are expected to master algebraic notation. This system is internationally recognised and is used to record each move during a game.
Music and performing arts “Pupils’ personal development is excellent and they are extremely happy at school.” – Good Schools Guide
Music and performing arts are an important part of the Creative Curriculum. In addition to whole class lessons, children have the opportunity to perform in a choir, orchestra and theatrical group. Private instrumental music lessons are available in piano, guitar, violin, singing and the drums. Termly music assemblies provide the opportunity for musicians to learn to perform in front of an audience. Lessons are designed to be practical, inspirational, lively and fun.
Sports “A good and varied syllabus with much specialist teaching, including music and sports.” – Good Schools Guide The children are involved in a wide range of competitive sporting activities including tennis, netball, tag rugby, football, hockey, swimming, cricket, athletics, dance, gymnastics and rounders.
Houses “Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils is excellent.” – ISI The head boy and head girl are elected each year by the school council, which is made up of a child from every class. Upon entry to the school, the children are assigned to one of four houses and siblings join the same house as their older brother or sister. Every house has a house captain and vicecaptain. The house names were originally chosen by the children. The houses are Astor, Livingstone, Nightingale and Drake.
Clubs There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities before and after school. We have many different clubs including STEM, chess, computing, ballet, cookery, sports, art, chamber choir, fencing, French and Mandarin.
Sports Children from Year 3 and above enjoy a variety of residential trips, both in the UK and abroad, enriching their experiences through a range of adventure camps and educational activities. These include water sports on the Isle of Wight and skiing.
“How a child learns is as important as what a child learns.” – Lucinda Waring, Founder
