Copthorne Prep’s mission is to develop confidence, provide opportunities and realise potential as well as promoting imagination and happiness in our pupils. Our children have the space to be unique and amazing.

The nursery

Copthorne’s nursery is where your child will learn to learn as well as promoting imagination, confidence and happiness. As a parent of a two to four year olds you will appreciate just how much learning there is to do!

Amid the sea of waterproofs and wellington boots you will find children using their imaginations, being absorbed by new experiences and generally having fun. These are the foundations on which Copthorne Prep has been built and they prepare children well for the pre-prep years.

We offer a range of activites for your child to enjoy, guided by our specialist staff. Your child can socialise with new friends whilst playing in the playground, excavate in an enourmous sandpit or scale the climbing frames. Better still, we regularly take the children on walks across the school grounds and through to our woods so they can explore the great outdoors. Our forest school leader always has great delights ready for them.

Our son loves being at the nursery and frequently asks to go in on his day off.

The pre-prep

This is a very formative period for your child and as a parent of a four to seven year olds you’ll appreciate how many different things your child can be busy with!

We offer a broad and exciting curriculum for the liveliest and most enquiring minds. We place great emphasis on learning to read and thinking mathematically and scientifically – language, maths and science are core subjects. Your child will also be introduced to history, geography, religious education, French, art and crafts, information technology, forest school, music and physical education.

The pre-prep is just down the path from the prep school, in a self-contained area with its own playground, two big climbing frames and the biggest sandpit in the area! The children also enjoy the benefits of the main school facilities including the chapel, the dining room and theatre, all weather pitch, the sports hall, swimming pool, woods and the extensive playing fields.

Our child is flourishing, thanks to the wonderful staff who have created a safe, friendly and nurturing environment.

The prep

Learning in the prep school is exciting. It is where curiosity is channelled, independence is formed and effort is celebrated. The curriculum is broad but balanced and your child will be assessed to ensure that he or she continues to make progress and receives appropriate support and guidance. In addition, a wide range of extracurricular opportunities are offered – we have excellent creative and performing arts facilities and fantastic sports coaching.

You will see your child develop their confidence, their passion for learning and their awareness of their responsibility as a global citizen. They will be challenged to reach their full potential and, as a result, will be well prepared for their progression to the senior school of their choice.

Above all, we recognise the importance of pastoral care and ensure that the school environment is nurturing, supportive and safeguards every child.

Our children will be leaving with dear friends, happy memories and scholarships to their chosen schools.
