OK … here we all are, the season for giving and receiving is upon once again.

So, what’s it like this time of year for you? Are you happy to be celebrating or do you question its relevance or significance these days?

It’s actually the perfect time to relax and deepen in a fuller appreciation for what is real and true by listening to all that’s being offered.

In his beautiful book “Seven Thousand Ways to Listen” Mark Nepo offers just this, the infinite ways we can allow the world to touch us and move through us by listening with all our being.

“Deep listening,” Nepo says, “is a form of gifted receiving.”

And isn’t this so? We usually feel at our lightest, we feel the most inspired, aligned and attuned when we are at one with That which whispers through our hearts. When we listen in this way everything makes sense and feels perfect just as it is. This could also be called the “Gift of Presence”, and whenever it presents itself in our lives we always feel blessed and grateful.

As we go about our Christmas and New Year’s celebrating, we could take this as another opportunity to dive a little deeper in the company of loved ones around us.

Instead of simply gifting presents we could offer our own presence, making ourselves more available to all our family and friends. Surely this is what these gatherings are really all about.

And, there’s also that after effect that happens when all the celebrating ends. Here lies another opportunity to deepen. Instead of getting caught in the collective dullness hangover, wondering what all the fuss was about, we can simply sit with what is and allow the call to our next cycle of growth to meet us in our listening.

And, it’s good to remember that it’s all a gift of giving and receiving, every single breath we take is a gift.

Remembering this gives us the willing heart to move forward no matter how life appears or presents itself.

In conclusion, here’s Nepo again:

“Let the gifts stitch or cut the web Let what needs to come together or break apart Come together or break apart.

Let the miracles, even the ones we don’t want or see, unfold.”

4 right now, including environmental and financial crises. How can you deal with these in a good way?

"Every crisis is a blessing in disguise. It is an invitation to wake up. I don’t know how far the crisis has to go before we truly wake up. Archeological finds make it clear that earlier civilizations rose and fell again.

Naturally, that may happen to our civilization too. We won’t survive if we stay in the level of thoughts. The thoughts are what caused the problems we are encountering at the moment. It is important to seek out stillness and make contact with who you truly are. It is the yin-aspect that helps us to wake up spiritually and to accept the present moment completely. From that star ting point the steps you wish to take follow spontaneously; de yang-energy."

"The good news is that we all have the power to wake up. However, each of us will do it in his own tempo. The one tempo is not better than the other, therefore, it is pointless to judge another. Eckhar t’s process took one night, but for most of us it will be a gradual process."

But, I think it would be wonderful to have an awakening in one night.

"Look at the flower on this table. Even if I don’t know whether it is real or fake (she laughs). That flower will bloom in its own time. You cannot say to it: ‘Bloom, bloom, bloom!' The idea that you have to awaken quickly is again a creation of the intellect, a thought form. If you identify with that, you are not awakened."

Many people are experiencing awakening and yet you hear so little about it in the mainstream media.

An Interview with Kim Eng

Who is the woman who stands next to Eckhart Tolle?

Spirituality month started with a lecture from the best-selling author Eckhart Tolle, known for his books ‘The Power of Now’ and ‘A New Earth’, among other things. He visited the Netherlands with his partner Kim Eng who held a workshop ‘Presence through movement’ while she was here. Who is the woman who stands next to Eckhart and what can we expect to hear from her in future?

Kim Eng enters the lounge suite of the Ambassador Hotel, I feel the pure presence she emanates. All the questions I had planned to ask were immediately forgotten. I stutter, turn bright red, and cannot think of anything better than "Can you help me to do this interview in presence?" to say. We take a deep breath together and I begin to calm down. The challenge for me, literally, is to let go of expectations; to create a calm, selfassured impression, for instance.

How did your spiritual journey begin?

"I was married at that time, and attended the Christian Church with my husband looking for answers. I was extremely unhappy and fell into a depression. That led to my decision to leave my husband and the Church. That’s when I set out on my spiritual journey, mostly through reading many books on spirituality.

However, as with the Bible, I tried to understand it all on an intellectual level. Until I read the book, I Am That by Nisargadatta Maharaj. From the first paragraph, I had the feeling that ‘I had found it’. The funny thing is that I don’t exactly remember any more what was in it, but the feeling it gave me, I remember as if it was only yesterday. I made contact with the dimension behind the words."

Later I went to India to continue my journey of discovery. I became partially para-

lyzed by an illness. That forced me to look for answers within myself. From then on, my journey in God began. Before that, it was more a journey to God. Still, the books were helpful: words can help point you in the right direction. But, they are still thought patterns, they are not reality. The true answers lie within yourself."

Are you present in the moment all day long?

"Even for me it is still a journey and practice.

I notice however that I have grown and become more mature. We, as people, have the tendency to lose ourselves in the outside world. You identify with the world of form and see it as your master. That’s why it is important to look for moments of silence and make contact with our essence, the divine energy. We are actually all spiritual beings on the inside. When we go out into the world, the challenge is to remain in contact with that."

How do you and your partner Eckhart deal with all the media attention and the fact that people have a tendency to put public figures on a pedestal?

"Eckhart and I spend a lot of time alone so that we stay in contact with ourselves. We are not the kind of people that continuously want company. If you put a famous person on a pedestal, you don’t realize who you truly are on the inside. Everything you look for in that famous person can be found inside yourself."

There are many ongoing crises in the world

"Eckhar t and I notice that there is a lot changing right now. We see that Eckhart’s books are becoming popular with a broad readership, while a few years ago, people outside of spiritual circles did not relate to them. We simply have the tendency to ignore information or reject it if we are not ready to receive it."

With your workshop 'Presence through movement', you use the body to make contact with the space behind the bodily form. How does this work exactly?

"With the body, or objects such as a table or chair, we notice the form. However, if you look through a microscope, you see that these are not solid forms. Still you can use the illusion of a form, such as a door opening, to make contact with the space behind it. Energy is meant to flow freely around the body, but certain convictions can cause blockages in the body. The energy then becomes more solid in form, like glue. This is the energy of the pain body. Dissolving this energy through yoga or Qi Qong alone is not enough to solve the problem. Working on awareness, how certain thought patterns create obstacles, is just as important. This helps prevent the problems from reoccurring."

Kim suggested we round off the interview with an exercise for complete presence.

Then I tell her that the interview was very special for me, not because of the words, but because of the underlying connection.

"I have the feeling that you will carry out your interviews in this way more often from now," she says. I tell her about my premonition.

That she will be seen a lot in the media in the coming years. "I don’t know how things will go," Kim says modestly. Then she tells me she plans to give fewer workshops and make time to write a book. In conclusion, she embraces me warmly and I know for certain: we are going to hear a lot more from this woman!

Interview with Mystic Andrew Harvey

BY FELICIA M. TOMASKO Andrew Harvey is the author of over 30 books and the co-author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. Harvey sees spirituality and mysticism along with a call to action and activation as the solution for the current crisis we are facing in the world today.

Felicia M. Tomasko: People describe you as a mystic. How would you define what a mystic is and the role of a mystic in the modern world?

Andrew Har vey: A mystic is someone who has a direct connection with the divine, beyond dogma, beyond religion, beyond concept. I believe everybody is a closet mystic, because when you wake up to your own inner divinity, you wake up to the inner divinity of everybody and of every sentient being.

So I know that within every human being there is a spark of the divine consciousness and this is the universal testimony of all the mystical traditions.

The Upanishads say the Atman, the individual soul, is Brahman, the eternal spirit, so the individual soul is one with the eternal consciousness. In Christianity, the soul is referred to as a favillidei day, which is the spark of God. And when I was working with a group of Tibetans on the book I co-wrote with them, The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, we used to chant in between trying to get minutiae of Tibetan philosophy right, “My Buddha nature is as good as the Buddha’s Buddha nature.”

This testimony that at the core of everyone lies the divine consciousness waiting to be experienced is crucial for the future.

We’ve created an increasingly violent, desolate, meaningless, desperate world out of our mistaken belief that we are separate beings. This terrible belief – that is profoundly untrue – is the root of growing devastation that we see everywhere. The healing of this devastation can only come from two linked things: our universal mystical awakening to the innate divinity of human consciousness, and a wholly new kind of sacred action born from that consciousness.

This abandonment and rejection of the divine does not exhaust divine love nor the operations of divine grace. Let us look at the parable of the prodigal son. The prodigal son abandons his world and his generous father, to go off in a fit of independent pique and destroys his life, or comes close, in an orgy of selfish greed and addiction. In the despair that follows, he remembers his father and goes back. The reunion with the father after the depths of shattering is more intense, illumined, tender and humble. I see the whole of humanity going through this story right now.

There will be those that will die in the pit of addiction. There will be those who see that a desacrilized world and life are utterly doomed; they will then undertake the journey back to origin, back to the divine, and be inflamed by passion to act in very wise ways to save the planet.

FMT: How did this lack of consciousness begin?

FMT: What about people who feel the divine has forsaken and betrayed them?

AH: For divine consciousness to incarnate itself, it had to lose itself. The individual being who was created to lose itself in divine consciousness was also shrouded by the ego or what we call the false self in Sufism.

In Sufism it is said that we are separated from our deep self by 72,000 veils of illusion. In order to incarnate, the divine travels through those 72,000 veils, which are, of course, different aspects of itself. In order to experience our innate divinity, we have to go on a tremendous journey through those veils, which we can do through grace and deep spiritual work. This game of hide and seek with itself seems to be at the core of the divine’s plan for the universe. And it’s a very dangerous – and exciting – plan.

Because if we do not wake up to this innate divinity, we will destroy what the divine has seeded in us for the transformation of ourselves and our world.

AH: That is a complete illusion. The divine cannot forsake anyone because the divine is living as a spark within everyone. When you wake up and see the divine light, you see that the whole universe is radiating from that light. All matter is frozen light and all beings, good and evil, are pillowcases stuffed with light.

The idea of being abandoned by God is just that: It is an idea, a concept born out of a very incomplete knowledge of the divine.

It can only be healed by radical knowledge of gnosis, of mystical illumination. When you take the path to that illumination, you realize that it is not God who is abandoning you. By retreating into your ego, into your self-concern, into the agendas of your illusory fantasies about life, you are abandoning God. God is always here. God is always available. God is always extending infinite love.

Rumi says this with characteristic brilliance:

FMT: It’s gambling with the highest stakes.

The divine is betting everything.

AH: Yes, the divine is betting everything out of supreme love. Supreme love creates all of the world, yet it cannot command beings to love it back; it wants to be loved for its own sake.

In creating and inseminating the human race with divine consciousness, the divine took an enormous risk of being abandoned, rejected, forgotten and humiliated. History has shown that humanity has to a large extent, abandoned, rejected and humiliated

The wine of divine Grace is limitless.

All limits come only from the fault of the cup.

White light stretches from horizon to horizon.

How much it fills your room depends on the windows.

Grant a great dignity my friend, to the cup of your life.

Eternal life has designed it to hold eternal wine.

Rumi is making clear what all the mystics of all the traditions discover: divine grace is always flowing. And as Ramakrishna said, “The winds of grace may be always flowing, but we forget to hoist our sails.”

FMT: Since the stakes are so high, the divine is asking for its heart to be broken.

AH: I think the heart of the divine has been broken again and again since the beginning of time.

To undertake the adventure of incarnation is to invite radical and terrifying heartbreak. Anyone who comes into contact with the Mother side of God has come into contact with what Jewish, Christian and Sufi mystics call the heartbreak of God at our forgetfulness of the divine, our maltreatment of the sacred, our brutality towards each other – at our insane cruelty.

FMT: How can someone open the door to their closet mystic?

AH: There are three essential ways to open the door to the closet mystic: A discipline of meditation which enables you to experience the divine sun of consciousness behind the passing clouds of thought.

A discipline of prayer which enables you to experience the rapture of being able to commune with the force that your deepest self is in touch with.

And a discipline of ser vice in which you express what you learn from meditation and prayer in real work of love in the world.

Those three disciplines of meditation, prayer and service, done with great humility and faith, are invitations for divine grace to take away “the me.” Over time, the innate divine nature is revealed; when it is revealed, everything is changed and a wholly divine nature of consciousness, power, generosity and passion are installed in the human being.

Awakening to what is always naturally present Q & A with Enza Vita, author of “Always Already Free” Q: My teacher’s advice is to keep the attention as much as possible on consciousness by asking yourself, every time you are distracted, “What am I giving my attention to?”

ENZA: Yes, mindfulness to one’s power of attention is a type of meditation practice which helps cut the involvement of the mind but this attention is itself a phenomenon or movement that arises in awareness and is seen by awareness.

What is it that is aware of attention? What is aware of its presence or absence? There is something

behind and before the attention that is even simpler, more subtle, and existing without effort. What is that?

This is where you must do away with answers—intellectual, mental, or verbal. Here only direct realization will do.

Ever ything that we can perceive—you, me, world, problems, and solutions—is all before the awareness that we are. It is a witnessing of the screen of consciousness and all that flows through the screen of consciousness. But who and what is the witness itself?

These are the questions that you

need to ask yourself. The words are pointing to something. What are they pointing to?

The point is not to find an answer.

If you find an answer, throw it away.

Any answer you find is useless.

Q: Can a teacher or guru help me to realize my true nature? And how would I go about choosing one?

ENZA: There is only one teacher and that is presence. My suggestion is that you stay with that one.

The true guru is a manifestation of your true nature, as it ex-

ists internally and appears to exist externally. The true guru is actually you made manifest, not as you think you are but the real you, presence/ awareness itself. Since who you truly are is the totality of being, you are capable of generating many forms, both human and non-human, to bring the focus of the illusionary seeker back to itself. “Guru” is really another word for awareness.

In regard to the human teacher, be guided, first of all, by love. Follow your heart and see where it takes you. If one day you meet someone in whose company you find you can be yourself, and if you feel clear, peaceful, happy, and your mind becomes calm for no apparent reason, you may like to keep his or her company from time to time.

Jean Klein, a well-known speaker and author on the subject of nonduality, said, “You will know a true teacher because you will feel yourself, in your autonomy, in his or her presence.”

With the true teacher you are free to be yourself rather than bound by rules and agendas. The true teacher doesn’t take the identity and role of the teacher seriously and has no need for his/her students to feel complete.

The greatness of a teacher is not in psychic powers, lineages, or credentials, in the numbers of followers or eloquence or intellect or charisma. Greatness is the extent to which the vehicle has been taken over by the realization and has ceased grasping.

When you meet such a teacher, there is actually nobody there. Apart from thoughts and concepts of a separate self, there is nobody there

in either of you. In reality there is no difference between you and the guru, as there is no difference between the space in this cup and the space in that cup. The cup cannot limit the all-pervasive space.

Ultimately, there are no teachers or teachings because there aren’t any students. There is only ever unconditional presence—Oneness meeting Itself as That.

STAYING COOL AND BUILDING RESILIENCE Understanding how our emotions work is the key to building inner strength and living a life that is ‘in the flow’. Just as we can only move with our bodies once we have learned how to balance ourselves, we can only move skillfully mentally and emotionally when we know how to keep our emotional balance.

Inner strength and resilience

Positive psychology has rediscovered how important good feelings, being absorbed in our work and lives, and a good ethical foundation are for our emotional and mental health. Through evidencebased research, psychologists such as Martin Seligman have discovered that these are the ingredients for establishing wellbeing, resilience and a fulfilling and meaningful life.

The Lifeflow Centre teaches all of these factors by integrating the four streams of the meditation tradition: 1. Meditation for finding and maintaining your balance and becoming absorbed – being in the flow 2. Mindfulness for keeping your balance through daily life 3. Inner strength and resilience arise from both understanding how your emotions work and having a feeling for your ‘emotional spine’. What are emotions?

Emotions arise from our minds and the word emotion derives from the Latin emovere, which means ‘to move’. So emotions move us to action. They are very different from the constant stream of sensations (light, sound, touch, smell and taste) that we experience in our bodies, because emotions are mentally generated. That is why meditation means ‘mind training’ – to keep your emotions in a healthy state you need to know how to train your mind.

We have no problem understanding that we need to look after our bodies to keep them in a healthy state, because we are taught to do so. However, it doesn’t usually occur to us that we can also maintain and look after our emotions. Meditation and mindfulness provide the tools to do exactly this.

Healthy and unhealthy emotions

When you act skilfully you are absorbed in what you are doing.

You are in the flow and this is the hallmark of a healthy emotional state. You are connected with life and your senses are open to what is around you, so you feel whole and integrated.

However, when your mind becomes stuck in thoughts it splits off from the experience of your body.

Your ideas take over from reality and when this happens your mind is not connected with what is actually happening. It becomes stuck in its own world so you are locked into a closed loop of thoughts that seems impossible to get out of. This generates the stress, anxiety and sleep-

lessness that are, unfor tunately, such common experiences for so many people.

It’s comforting to know that unhealthy states of mind have always been accepted as an integral part of meditation and that we all get dumped in the waves of emotions at different times.

Respecting the natural power of emotions

If we view emotions as powerful, natural forces, like waves on the ocean, we can bring to them the same respect we would to any other force in nature. This is the best protection you have against getting caught in them. By respecting them you can see overwhelming waves of emotion coming and ensure you have the space to stay out of them.

By providing the means to balance yourself, meditation creates the space in which you can accept your emotions and stay cool.

This is where the tool of the Three C Technique, which Lifeflow has developed, is invaluable.

It gives you the ability to accept what you are feeling, then use meditation and mindfulness techniques to hold your balance and keep your cool in the heat of the moment. Your resilience grows as you practice this, and you can learn to trust and become friends with yourself.

Linda: It wasn’t just a moment.

It was just the culmination of years of practice. What happened was so amazing at the time but now I hardly remember it. That’s what’s so amazing about this state. You let go of everything, even that point which people find incredibly fascinating.

For me, as I’ve said, as it was happening – I’ve said it a lot of times before – it was like a fairy tale come true. That was the feeling.

It was like, ‘How can this really be happening?’ I remember as a child sometimes there would be fairy tales or things like Santa Claus and the Easter bunny and sometimes I’d pretend they were true for a while and then suddenly I’d realise, ‘Ah, it’s not really true.’ This was the other way around. It was like the fairy tale was true.

What I saw as reality became incredibly unreal. What I thought was unreal became real and much more tangible than anything in this worldly existence. It was like the Absolute just became real, tangible even though I couldn’t touch it, taste it or feel it. And, there was no question about it. There was no question in me, ‘Is this it?’ It was just completely obvious. And then all my questions went. All my pain went.

And I was in pain up until that point.

It took a few days. It happened over a few days. It wasn’t just click, that’s it. It just happened over a few days, really softly. There were no explosions, and bright lights. You like to think that there are. It was so simple and so ordinary, it was shocking.

There was such beauty and such simplicity, such gratitude, such love.

. . but it wasn’t projective at all. It was just incredibly soft and incredibly ordinary and incredibly natural as if everything in the universe just clicked into place. All my life made complete sense, everything that had happened, all the seemingly bad bits and good bits and why I did this and why I did that. There was no question about that anymore.

I finished the retreat and went home, got up the next day and had breakfast.

Question: Did you continue to meditate after you were enlightened?

Some people say that once you are enlightened, it’s over; it’s the end . . .

Linda: It’s never over – it never ends. After realisation, I saw that there was still residual past in me, and meditating and teaching accentuated that. I felt it. It would highlight anything that was there, and it gave me this desire to be even more pure. I didn’t feel completely honest sometimes sitting up there when there was still some impurity there, and I would express it at times. I just wanted to be completely pure – not for me, but for ‘this’. Before that, I was meditating for me. I wanted to feel OK. I thought I wanted something for me. And then when it happens you realise you haven’t been doing it for you. It’s for ‘this’- for humanity. So, after realisation the intention behind wanting to become more pure changes. But then you get to a point where you just have to accept, ‘I’m human’, and with that there is an even deeper realisation, an even deeper acceptance of everything.

So, this was a deeper stage of

enlightenment, and it took 7 years for me to get to this stage. You have to come to terms with the absolute and the relative. And, that’s a huge thing. Then there’s a much deeper sense of ease, acceptance and union.

Question: Is this union with something else?

Linda: There’s nothing else.

That’s what I realised. There’s nothing else. There’s just union.

So, I’ve got no idea who I am and that’s fine. I accept that. I’m not thinking who I am; there’s no selfconsciousness; there’s nothing happening, in a way, but there is. It’s impossible to describe, really . . .

The Enneagram of True Insight This series of articles is an offering to those on a path of serious self inquiry. It introduces something we could call a ‘tool’, but which actually depicts what you are already very familiar with, whether consciously or subconsciously. Enneagrams when described in very simple terms, are a collection of nine pointed symbols.

They represent experienced reality from the perspective of nine different flavours of egoic identity, and the corresponding vir tues, ideas and flavour of your true nature that are experienced with self realisation as ego is transcended. As an experience, this could be described as the shift from living the subjective experience of the egoic knot, to that of the objective reality of true nature/presence. These enneagrams introduce supportive, discriminating insight that can be a fundamental asset to complement self inquiry.

They have the capacity to assist us in clearly identifying who we are not, and hence with vigilance, we can be aware of when we are moving away from living as presence, and back into an egoic, survival focused human ‘animal’. When used in this way they can assist deepening self realisation and conscious living. They can also show us the living potential when we are no longer misidentifying with a separate egoic self, and assist us in recognising our opening into the beauty of experiencing our objective wholeness.

Much of personal human suffering and that caused by our actions directed toward other people and the environment, is the direct result of living from the egoic knot, and lack of realisation of our true

nature. While we are caught in the egoic knot we go forth from an independent, personal and self-centred world. We don’t even appreciate that somebody else can experience the world in a very different way that could be entirely foreign from our own experience and viewpoint. The enneagram of character fixation can give us insight into the nine ways in which people experience reality, and assist us in distinguishing when we are caught up in our own personal identity. For some this is suffering, for others the suffering is masked. Once we are aware that we are caught up in a mechanism of a ‘personal self’, we have the choice whether we are going to be run by it, or to live from presence. This is a paradigm shift in living.

Let’s look a little closer. At some point in our manifest experience, there is an arising of an egoic self that perceives itself to be a separate identity and body. In it’s quest for survival, imitation of presence, compensation for what is felt to be lost, and search for happiness, it goes forth in the world being run by a combined set of instinctive, primal, animal drives and character fixations. Life is lived trying to control ‘my’ world, stay safe, get love and find fulfilment. The ego in service to our DNA, would also have us believe that the animal drives of self preservation, social constructs and sexual reproduction, are essential priorities that we must consciously, or subconsciously, obey to be happy and fulfilled. These are the building blocks of egoic experience, and each of us has a unique mixture of elements of the nine fixations and

The Magic of “Here-Now”

It is what many seekers try to grasp or find. It is practiced by so many seekers.

What does Here-Now mean? It feels like the background (that what is) becomes the foreground and the foreground (the ego) disappears

into the background. This can happen during meditation but also in a more usual way when we are completely one with our activity. This is the basic reason why we seek activities that contains a lot of intensity, involvement and engagement. The ego disappears to the background

Per sonality can be a flavour resulting from our par ticular upbringing, genetic inheritance, and life circumstances. Personality can be changed, whilst the character fixations are what make up the core bedrock, or foundation, of our egoic experience. Character is where our core difficulties and painful issues are crystallised. Unless we are willing to meet these core issues they will continue to show up in our lives with fresh circumstances and continually invite us to a deeper discovery. Changing personality can bring relative improvements, whilst investigating character can bring transformation and transcendence.

Over the next three editions we’ll explore the nine types of egoic knot in their associated groupings of mental (fear points), physical (anger points) and emotional (image points/neediness).

and we feel much more in tune with life. Although beautiful it is still an experience. And this experience comes and goes like any experience.

When live becomes too intense for us, the ego will be at the foreground again...

Here-Now is much more. Actually it has nothing to do with experiencing. Here-now is always exactly where you are. Not you as an ego/ mind but as reality. Here-now is home. This is your base and you can`t abandon it. Although we often imagine we do. Here-Now is your essence. This essence is not something you can grasp, hold, feel or experience. It is what makes perception possible.

Sound vibration is energy, resonance, and frequency. Human ears can detect vibrations composed of frequencies between 20hz and 20,000hz when transmitted through some kind of medium, solid, liquid, or gas. When the human ear picks up these sounds, they spiral into the cochlea and transmit via electrical pulses into the brain and central nervous system. Because the brain and central nervous system is so connected to our wellbeing, in this way, sound can have a powerful effect on our levels of being, which are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual/energetic.

The brain processes sound in amazing and complex ways. It has several brainwave states, and even though there may be more than one brainwave state operating at one time, there will be an overall frequency that dominates. Listening to and experiencing sounds that are long and floating, harmoniously chorded, and simple (not too much melody), can have a very relaxing and therapeutic affect on our levels of being. Usually these types of sounds are associated with therapeutic instruments like qual-

ity Himalayan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, Chinese gongs, droning resonating stringed instruments, and also vocal chanting. Rhythm and drumming can also induce altered states of consciousness like that of a trance that shamans would practice. Therapeutic instruments when played by professional sound therapists can help induce altered states of consciousness, such as the beneficial Alpha 8-12hz, and Theta 3-7hz brainwave states.

These are associated physically with deep relaxation, reduced heart rate, normalization of blood pressure, and better function of the endocrine and nervous systems; non physically Alpha and Theta link to enhancing intuition, creativity, meditation, contemplation, and intelligence.

According to the Vedic system, and other ancient spiritual traditions, human beings are more than just physical, they are also energy beings. Our subtle energy system (aura), energy centers (chakras), and shushumna (energetic spine) all play a part in our physical health and wellbeing. It is said that our seven subtle energy bodies link into our different levels of being

simultaneously, from the 1st etheric layer through to the 7th causal layer. Looking at humans from this perspective, it makes sense why vibrational energy medicine from therapeutic sound can work with these aspects within us.

The ancient Indian metaphysical system of Nāda yoga divides music into internal music, anahata, and external music, ahata. The practice of listening mindfully to continuous external therapeutic sound can give rise to hearing one’s own “inner silence”. The embodiment and expansion of this inner silence can lead to self awareness, awakening, and deeper unity with both sound and silence, and the outer and inner cosmos. Matter is ultimately sound and resonance. Quantum physics shows us that existing in every ‘thing’ we see, as being ‘form’, including us, is actually countless tiny energetic atoms spinning in space.

We are sound!

The body is the unconscious mind.

The body records everything that happens to us and then speaks to us in its primary cellular language.

Disease – or a relationship - that has gone wrong is simply the body’s way of telling us what the unconscious mind remembers and our conscious mind has ignored. Once we become aware of that message (whether it is about a dis-ease or about a pattern in a relationship), the body can be released from that particular message and if we heed it and change our behaviour accordingly (and obviously address any physical symptoms), then the disease or the pattern can dissolve.

We are not our genes! We don’t inherit bad ones! What we do inherit is bad patterning and outmoded belief systems. Genes cannot do a thing until they are activated by proteins. In turn our mental environment alters and affects the same proteins. It’s our perception of what happens in our environment that alters the molecular constitution of these proteins, which in turn affects our genes! When we’re bombarded by TV, newspaper s about terrorism or other dire predictions, to the degree that we fear, our protein sequences alter and if we put negative energy into what we hear, we actually stop growing!

(During WWII, the BBC asked for volunteers to hold orphaned babies because they weren’t thriving due to lack of physical touch?) Leading edge scientists now say that positive faith is not just a spiritual value, it’s a physical necessity. From eyes open to eyes closing, the way we think and act reflects how our minds move matter. Understanding the part our perception plays and how it creates our reality, we understand our unlimited ability to manifest anything we want.

Our body is a temple - yet we rarely acknowledge it. When we are hurt emotionally our body armors itself…. Pain is reflected in the face… lines appear deeper, skin colour paler etc. Body energy is lessened and intuitively we can see/ feel/know it in others. Bodies are an absolute reflection of what’s going on in our hearts and minds….

They create separation, numbness, isolation, distortion and rigidity… limiting our passion for life. The body never lies. It simply records everything that happens. Buried feelings woken up, give enormous energy back to the body. Our backgrounds didn’t allow us to yell in anger/rage, or sob in sadness/ fear, we simply repressed it, smiled and got on with our lives. Crying isn’t weak, it’s the most sensible thing to do when emotion builds up.

Anger is simply another emotion, when released sensibly (screaming into a pillow or beating a cushion instead of someone’s face), energy is released and calm returns to the body/mind.

The relationship between one’s mind and body is a primary relationship for each of us. Like any relationship it’s brought into harmony

through love, enhanced through communication, compassion, acceptance and understanding and since this relationship is the only one guaranteed to last from birth to death, it’s seen as the path to wholeness.

Let’s unravel our past through eyes of compassion, communicate with various parts of our body that may be in pain and ask what that part needs. Know we created it, get the lesson, move on. Without them we wouldn’t be as strong…. or as courageous…. or who we are!

Here’s a few ways you could choose to: * Have some LifeLine sessions, a massage, a rebirthing, EFT * Be gentle on yourself when you blow it (and we all do). * Eat nutritious food and exercise in order to nurture your body. * Read something inspirational every day. * Listen to life enhancing music, it allows your chakras to spin correctly, while soothing your spirit and calming your emotions. * Do nothing…. Have 5 minutes of nothing time when you can be… without feeling guilty. * See your mirrored reflection as a precious, divine, miraculous being * When the going gets tough, ask what’s the lesson, observe the repetition and make an agreement with yourself to change your behaviour * Don’t hang around with people who make you wrong or put you down. * Work out what tribal beliefs you hang onto and change them, continually! * Feel your feelings, whatever they are. * Stay out of the movie because you can’t change the script from inside. * Have fun, learn to laugh at yourself and remember you’re a spiritual being and your job is simply to remember.

You will notice that as you start treating yourself better, it will be reflected back to you from everyone and family patterning can be altered forever from working on yourself.

When you heal yourself, you heal 7 generations back and 7 generations forward… so therefore even if you can’t be bothered doing it for yourself, do it for those who come behind you!

It is absolutely time now to acknowledge that YOU are the most important person in your universe and the more you give to yourself the more is available to all the other people in your life so you are, in essence, a pipeline to the infinite and you simply need to remember that.

I grab an early lunch at the local health food shop I always take an hour for lunch as I’m conscious of taking care of myself in this line of work.

Many of the adults I work with have experienced trauma during childhood and are seeking a way to be less burdened by this. With art therapy there are no needs for words, no need to explain what happened or even to understand or make sense of it, this understanding tends to follow naturally when the images are made and looked at.

I also work with children and young people, many have become ‘shut-off’ and find communication through art much less confrontational than the pressure of talking. I often find that I’m working with children who are self-harming in some way and may have been given a label of ‘challenging’ or ‘disruptive’ in home or educational settings. Once the ‘difficult behaviour’ has a way to be released during art therapy, the way the child interacts with teachers and carers can often improve.

As I fall into bed, after a truly rewarding day, I count my blessings as I am always thankful for choosing the path I did.

The ‘Lucky Land’ now appears to be a country full of depressed, anxious and overweight peoples.

There is so much conflicting information about, well, everything and it is now widely known that much research is heavily tainted if not completely miscued by whoever is commissioning the research.

The increase in diagnoses of all illnesses has coincided with the massive increase of toxins humans are putting into the environment. We put our finite dollars into treatment, not prevention.

There are a plethora of diet and exercise programmes on the market, but the fact is humans are not homogenous. There is not one plan that fits all. Some systems are well suited to eating red meat, some are not. Some are well suited to a vegetarian diet and some are not. I think the only absolute (as far as diet goes) is – consume organic most, if not all, of the time. There are so many manmade toxic chemicals being used in farming now, it is no wonder to me that the population’s health has plummeted as the use of these toxins has sky-rocketted.

We can no longer treat our bodies with the haphazardness we once did and expect the hard working doctor to mend us. When we look at how humans develop,

the embryonic head comes from the abdomen; unfolding not dissimilar to a seed sprouting from the ground. It surely makes sense then, that gut health is intrinsically link to mental health and mental health to emotional health. There is a direct correlation between carrying too much weight and mental emotional ill-health. And so, all ‘bodies’ are linked; if one is out of kilter so are the rest.

The service I offer is wholistic [sic]. Together, I will guide you on how to attend to lifestyle factors and mental emotional wellbeing. I make it my business to stay up-to-date on issues of health and lifestyle. The newest research speaks of how the 5:2 diet can increase longevity and health. I’m not sure about you, but I struggle to eat only 500 calories for two days a week, every week. If you’re a male it’s not much better at 600 calories per day for two days per week, every week. There are several different Intermittent Fasting options; the one I prefer is much easier and does not require calorie counting at all.

Gut health – as easy as cutting sugar gradually over time, replacing with low or no GI natural sweeteners (again not manmade toxins) and increasing one’s consumption of pre and pro biotics – the right ones.

Cutting down on the consumption of grains, particularly grain flour and replacing it with seeds and seed flour. In fact replacing like for like is the way to go. I also advocate for a go slow process; it’s not a race. By simply increasing the good stuff, over time, there is less and less room for the bad stuff. AND it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a quality pizza. We humans can’t have

‘no’ foods cause it makes us want them even more....and who needs to experience the totally useless feelings of guilt afterwards - as if some price must be paid for enjoyment.

Exercise – well 80pc of what we look like is a direct result of what we put in our mouths. Again I love to exercise but I’m into the new information that says we don’t need to exhaust ourselves to keep fit. The human frame is made to walk, shor t spur ts of speed and lifting a bit of weight that’s about it really. What we are not made to do is sit, especially for more than an hour at a time.

We were made to hunt and gather not sit.

Mental and emotional health, go hand in hand. Sleep is VITAL. Only 100 years ago, before most houses had electricity, we were sleeping 9-10 hours per night.

Now the experts suggest we aim for 7. Like What? How about aim for 9-10, minimal of 8 hrs per night. Aim for 7 and your waist line will expand. And please if you have children they need much more sleep than an adult. 10-12 hrs per night; yes even teenagers.

To complete the wholistic approach, I utilise Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, tailored to your specific needs and personality. My service can be consolidated to ten sessions and with a referral from your GP (mental health), Medicare cover the majority of my fee, in many circumstances the whole fee.

I did discover is that “Yoga” is about what we digest on all levels. Hence the name. It was fate that introduced me to an amazing Acharya (a high master of yoga) in 2004 and I have never looked back since. I began the study of the 3 year diploma of Satyananda Yoga teaching. This lead me to one of the poorest places in India in 2007 to the Satyananda Ashram, where an incredible ceremony took place over 5 days led by the children of the village. The reason? GLOBAL PEACE! What I have come to understand is that yoga is a science and an experiment on ourselves. It is about sensations and feelings, discoveries that you may not ever have experienced before. It is physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

You can take one or all aspects and build on them. It does not matter who you are, or who you think you are, and you don’t have to wait until you are fit!! Very often I ask people why they come to yoga. These days the answer is “Peace and contentment” It’s that simple. So if you are large or small, flexible or inflexible, arthritic or anxious there is yoga for you. In a world of mobile phones,

Eat to Cut Your Breast Cancer Risk

According to Cancer Australia in 2010 breast cancer was the most common cancer in women and in 2011 it was the 2nd leading cancer related cause of death in women.

And the incidence is increasing (www. canceraustralia.gov.au). Of course these are frightening statistics, but there are modifiable risk factors for breast cancer and diet is no doubt one of them. I recommend the following simple approach to healthy eating minimise your risk today!

PLANT BASED WHOLE FOODS No I don’t mean you have to be a vegan or even a vegetarian although you may certainly choose to be. The point is to increase your plant intake to at least 70% of your diet and to avoid all processed foods. Processed food is devoid of real nutrient value, and is often high in sugar, bad fats, salts and preservatives or other additives. Many additives are implicated in cancer development – remember saccharin? The best rule of thumb is to avoid them entirely by going back to basics – fresh and organic if possible fruit, veggies, grains and protein sources such as legumes, lentils and beans. Avoid soy as it is a strong phyto-estrogen and the jury is out regarding its impact on breast cancer. If you choose the non-vegetarian option then eat small amounts of lean preferably organic meats, eggs, and fresh wild caught fish are fine. Avoid farmed fish – they are fed a cocktail of rubbish. Also avoid large fish that are more likely to have high mercury contamination such as shark and swordfish. Be careful how meats are cooked – avoid charbroiled or burnt meats they are extremely carcinogenic. Vegetables should make up about 50% of your diet so increase fresh salads, steamed or stir-fried fresh veggies, baked veggies such as pumpkin, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Ideally at least one fresh salad daily – try lots of different green leafies as they are packed with anticancer agents, help the liver detoxify

and help to alkalinise the body. Consider juicing (1 fruit to 5 vegies) or a “bullet” for green smoothies. Avoid eating large amount of raw kale, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage as this class of foods has thyroid suppressing activity in high dose when raw.

FAT INTAKE A recent review in the International Journal of Preventative Medicine (Jan, 2014) found the strongest relationship between saturated fat consumption (meat, dairy) and breast cancer. The risk from monounsaturated fats (highest in nuts, seeds, avocados, olives, canola) seems to depend on its source. Olive oil seems to confer protection, but it is not known if this is related to its prevalence in the “Mediterranean diet” which contains many anti-cancer foods. High consumption of other mono-unsaturated fats has been associated with an increased risk, but it is unclear which sources are most associated. It is best to avoid excessive consumption but nuts and seeds in small quantities are beneficial for other reasons.

The class of poly-unsaturated fats contains both the Omega 3 fatty acid fats (highest in fatty fish, shellfish, flax) as well as Omega 6 fatty acid fats (highest in vegetable oils). The Omega 3s confer protection whereas high consumption of Omega 6 is associated with increased risk. We need to consume both Omega 3 and Omega 6 but in about a 1:2 ratio, rather than the current 1:20 found in the Western diet.

So what to do about fats??? Keep them down overall, limit or eliminate red meat and dairy, eat more fish/shellfish, use fresh ground flax or flaxseed oil, eat some nuts and seeds but avoid vegetable oils and all processed food. For cooking olive oil is probably still the best bet but only small amounts. The jury is out on coconut oil - it is saturated and a source of myristoleic acid, an omega-5 fatty acid that has

been found to be associated with increased breast cancer risk. On the other hand it also contains an anticancer agent called kinetin riboside which has anti-cancer actions as well as other anti-cancer properties. A little bit is probably ok til more info is available but I would not jump on the high coconut oil bandwagon yet.

And finally avoid trans-fats like the plague. These are formed during the processing of fats and fat containing foods and are definitely carcinogenic.

ANTI-CANCER FOODS There are a range of phyto-nutrients with specific anti-cancer actions.

To protect normal cells from cancer initiation increase your intake of sulforaphane (broccoli), indole-3-carbinol (cabbage), diallyl sulfide (garlic) and ellagic acid (strawberries). To block the promotion and progression of cancer increase curcumin (turmeric), epigallocatechin (green tea), resveratrol (red grapes), lycopene (tomatoes), anthocyanidins (blueberries), Omega-3 fatty acids (oily fish/flaxseed oil), limonene (citrus) and proanthocyanidins (cinnamon, cranberries, blueberries). Specific mechanisms by which these foods act include inhibition of tumor cell growth (green tea, turmeric, cruciferous veggies, garlic and onion, grapes and berries, citrus, tomatoes, omega-3, dark chocolate); induction of tumor cell death (turmeric, cruciferous, garlic and onion, grapes and berries); and interference with new blood vessel formation required for cancer spread (green tea, turmeric, grapes and berries, omega-3). To directly boost your immunity include turmeric, citrus, mushrooms and omega-3.

MODULATE ESTROGEN Estrogens, both those we make and the enormous amount we are exposed to in the environment (xenoestrogens) are proliferative – they encourage cell growth. Therefore even when a breast cancer is “estrogen receptor negative,” I still recommend eating foods that help the body “modulate” its estrogen load.

These include cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, onion, garlic, artichoke, basil, rosemary, passion flower (tea), chamomile (tea), button mushrooms, flaxseed meal and flaxseed oil. Flaxseed oil is extremely fragile and goes rancid very easily. It must be kept refrigerated in a light proof container and flaxseed meal must be freshly ground. Do not eat pre-packaged LSA. The linseed and almond meal are likely rancid and the soy is estrogenic.

16 AVOID EXTRA ESTROGENS Foods may have naturally occurring estrogens (soy as mentioned) or estrogen contamination as in the case of added hormones, pesticides and other “xeno-estrogens”. Dairy is a source of both naturally occurring estrogens and if not organic, added estrogens (also pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics and goodness knows what else). Dairy is also often implicated in allergy and immune dysfunction. Therefore I advise elimination or restriction of dairy for most people. We certainly don’t “need” it and can get more than enough calcium from other sources such as nuts and seeds. Estrogens, growth factors and other contaminants can also be found in non-organic animal products and these products should

www.innerself.com.au be avoided. Even free-range chooks may be given hormones to encourage their growth. Ever notice the difference in size between organic and free-range chooks?

Thyroid Health

Some of the most common complaints I hear about in clinic are weight gain and the inability to lose weight no matter what the individual has tried, dry hair and skin, losing hair, low energy, brain fog, anxiety/ depression, and poor circulation, just to name a few, these are some of the possible symptoms of an underactive thyroid gland (Hypothyroidism).

The thyroid gland is situated at the base of the neck and is part of the endocrine system (the glandular system) which is regulated by the Hypothalamus and Pituitary glands found at the base of the brain. The thyroid is regulated by the hormone TSH which is secreted by the Pituitary gland. TSH is stimulated to encourage the thyroid gland to secrete a hormone called thyroxine also known as T4 into the bloodstream, which needs to be converted to the active hormone T3 to be utilised at the cellular level, this conversion takes place primarily in the liver and therefore liver health is paramount.

To help support the health and function of your Liver, you need to reduce your exposure to commercial cleaning chemicals, environmental toxins, fatty foods, alcohol, and increase fresh water consumption.

In a nutshell, to have a healthy thyroid function we need a very healthy mineral template, sufficient protein in the diet, our digestive system needs to be able to digest the protein we eat efficiently, and we also need very healthy cell membranes.

Something to consider! You may have had a blood test recently and all your levels of TSH, T4 and T3 have come back perfect indicating your Pituitary and Thyroid gland are producing the hormones needed.

But are they getting to where they need to go? T3 needs to be taken by a carrier protein into the cell to create a response in the body, therefore, as mentioned above, we need very healthy cell membranes for this to happen efficiently. It’s like applying a layer of cream on your face, if the cream just sits on the surface nothing will happen, it needs to go through into the dermal layers of the skin before nourishment can happen.

You can support the health of cell membranes by consuming plenty of good fats to strengthen the cell membranes, coconut oil is a good example, it is broken down quite quickly by the liver and increases

metabolism, olive oil in dressings, increase omega 3 found in fish and reduce intake of omega 6 fatty acids such as those found in corn, sunflower, safflower, canola oils and margarines, just to name a few.

Adequate levels of the mineral Selenium are needed to convert the hormone T4 into the active hormone T3. Selenium is found in foods such as Brazil nuts, Kelp, Tuna and Sunflower seeds.

Other important nutritional factors to consider are, the Pituitary gland needs plenty of the mineral manganese for optimal health and the Hypothalamus gland needs copious amounts of zinc for optimal function. Adequate protein in the diet is really important because the thyroid needs plentiful amounts of tyrosine, an amino acid which is bound to four iodine atoms per molecule to create T4. Tyrosine is also essential for adrenal gland health, it is impor tant to suppor t against fatigue, increase your energy levels, reduce your appetite and body fat.

Phenylalanine, another amino acid needs to be considered, as it can be converted to Tyrosine, so if you don’t eat a lot of protein, a good protein powder could be added to a fruit and vegetable smoothie to boost your daily levels.

If a blood test comes back with low levels of T3 it usually indicates low levels of iodine and tyrosine in that individual. Iodine is found predominantly in sea vegetables i.e. seaweed (kelp), some fish, with small amounts from the earth. Iodized salt may contain some iodine however unrefined salt should be your first choice.

Some of the causes of hypothyroidism may include hormone imbal-

ances such as oestrogen dominance which may be caused by our environment, such as the use of plastic containers, poultry which has been administered hormones, pesticides in foods, detergents, skin lotions, some synthetic carpet and many of the chemicals used in various industries. Other causes of an underactive thyroid are, Hashimoto’s, which is a malfunction of the immune system that causes the body to turn against healthy thyroid cells. Also radiation treatments, some prescription drugs, severe iodine deficiency and low protein levels in the diet, can all lead to an underactive thyroid.

Lastly there are some foods called goitrogenic food, which if eaten raw can interfere with the body’s iodine absorption, they are foods such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, watercress, turnips, soy, millet etc. So make sure you cook these if you have an underactive thyroid. The difference between Aromatherapy and Aromatic Medicine A rose by any other name would smell as sweet it says in this famous quote from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. But would it? If we called a rose, fish, for example, would it still make us swoon with delight? I suppose that depends on your conditioning and beliefs.

To many of you, Aromatherapy means stuff that smells nice (candles, body products, spa treatments...) that may or not induce a pleasurable thought, depending on your experiences. It is such a subjective thing. In some, the wonderfully versatile lavender, may cause an allergic reaction - physical or emotional. Others love to surround themselves with its nur turing warmth, much like a devoted grandmother.

There is a new paradigm that is emerging in this country, Aromatic Medicine, and we need to be prepared.

The word ‘Aromather apy’ is bandied around so often and highjacked by the big multinationals for products such as dish washing liquid, it is no surprise most people have simply come to accept it as

something other than what it is.

Our introduction to Aromatherapy in this country came in the early 1960s via the beauty industry and essential oils were blended in carriers and used predominately in massage treatments. This has expanded significantly over the past fifty years and day spas are common.

Unfortunately, there’s very little regulation of therapists working with essential oils. They are readily available at most pharmacies, (or through network marketing companies) and sold by people with no education. Used correctly, they have few side effects and, smell scentsational! But the popularity of ‘aromatherapy’ has become a double edged sword, our profession naturally benefits from this as it creates a greater demand, but only if we ensure people have the correct information.

There is a world of difference between adding a few drops of essential oil to a vapouriser or massage oil and Aromatic Medicine.

the oils are used very differently, often internally, either orally, encapsulated; rectally or vaginally as suppositories; or at sufficiently high doses to kill bacteria and virus in the respiratory system, as direct inhalations. How ever lovely the aroma, they are highly potent drugs and should not be indiscriminately splashed around.

This is natural medicine, and as the name implies, it utilises essential oils differently and therefore requires quite a considerable amount of study. A practitioner of this new paradigm has a sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology, chemistry and pharmacokinetics on top of being on first name terms with some 100 oils!

The molecular structure of essential oils is so tiny, they are one of the few substances that can pass through the blood brain barrier; they are also readily absorbed by the skin. Their complex structure makes them very powerful, so it makes sense to understand how to use them safely.

I want nothing more than to see the widespread acceptance of my profession by the public, other natural healthcare practitioners, and especially by the medically trained doctors. However, without factual education, we are in danger of either being labelled as snake oil pedlars, or worse, so heavily regulated we will became like France and will not be able to practice without a medical degree.

So let us all embrace this ancient

The Violet Flame

BY JENNIFER SHORT WHAT IS THE VIOLET FLAME? It is an invisible spiritual energy.

Those who have developed their spiritual vision, are able to see the violet light. Saints and adepts of East and West have long used the violet flame to speed up their spiritual development but this once-secret knowledge was not revealed to us until the twentieth century.

The violet flame has many uses.

Most importantly it transmutes negative energy into a higher vibration of love, making it a very effective tool in healing today. It can heal physical and emotional problems and improve relationships. Some healers use the violet flame to maintain their own energy and to keep themselves energetically clear.

By using the violet flame, healers are able to transmute low energy such as hate, fear, jealousy and resentment into a higher vibration of Divine love, which is then reabsorbed by the Godhead.

The violet flame is the essence of one of the “seven rays”. Just as a ray of sunlight is refracted into the seven colours of the rainbow when viewed through a prism, so spiritual light manifests as seven rays. Each ray is a specific frequency, colour and quality of God’s consciousness. The violet ray is known as the seventh ray. When you call upon God’s name, it comes as a beam of spiritual energy and ignites into a spiritual flame in the heart as forgiveness, mercy, freedom, justice and transmutation.

WHERE DID THE VIOLET FLAME

COME FROM? - SAINT GERMAIN’S GIFT The Ascended Masters with the angels and Archangels have taught us how to liberate ourselves. They have communicated through various Messengers through time. The Masters had decided to release the violet flame to the masses after being kept secret for centuries. Saint Germain, known as the Lord of the Seventh Ray, showed us how to use the violet flame to free ourselves.

For more than 90 years Saint Germain has been preparing us to enter the era of Aquarius – a time of enlightenment, peace and freedom.

Saint Germain appeared to a man in the early 1930’s and gave him the first instruction of the violet flame. He said “The use of the violet consuming flame is more valuable to you and to all mankind than all the wealth, all the gold and all the jewels of this planet.” Such is its power.

HOW CAN I USE THE VIOLET FLAME? The masters have told us that when our physical and spiritual bodies become clogged by negative energy and karma, it slows down the vibration of the electrons in our four lower bodies (physical, astral, mental and etheric). We then begin to resonate more with negativity and less with pure cosmic energy and eventually we become ill. The more ‘stuff’ clogging our four lower bodies, the lower the rate of vibration and the more weighed down we become. The violet flame transmutes anything that is negative that is clogging up or polluting our spiritual and physical being. This can manifest as anything from viruses to self-hate and everything in between. The violet flame dissolves these dense particles resulting in the transmutation of negative energy into positive energy and restores vibration to its native purity.

Yes, the world around us is in a constant state of change, but there are some immutable Laws which have been in existence since the beginning of time, and which never falter. When we live in harmony with these laws, we can be assured that our desires will become our physical reality. So rather than looking for love in all the wrong places, as the saying goes, how do we look for love in all the right places and find that beautiful soul who is also looking for us?

Manifesting love is the same as manifesting anything else we want in our lives! Regardless of who you are, or where your pathway may have taken you up until this point in time, finding love in all the right places is really a journey of self discov-

ery, which takes enormous courage, persistence, and a total trust in the process of manifestation. If we are not prepared to do this, then we will continue to find love in all the wrong places and be left wondering why.

Writing out a complete description of the man/woman you would love to attract into your life is the very first step. Now I am sure a number of you have already done this many times over, but it is still not bringing you the results you are looking for. Am I right? Well, I need you to bear with me please, and little secrets will unfold assisting you to finally achieve success.

The next step is to go through this description and highlight the ‘MUST HAVES’ - the things that are non-negotiable. Describing how this person is going to look, etc. is very important, but of even greater

Healing for the Future

For many people 2014 has been a year of turbulence, distractions, health issues, stresses and often exhaustion. It has certainly been a year that has brought many changes not only on personal levels but within societies, governments and indeed the whole planet.- wars, disease, climate change, economic change, terrorism, and the list goes on. Never have people been more unsettled about what the future brings. Many have moved to a reactive mode, often saying it is all beyond our control. But is it?

It is thoughts that shape our journey here on this planet. Duality exists here for a reason. To make our lives more interesting, to give us an opportunity to create a purpose in life and to offer hope through choice.

We must challenge our thoughts, look at the big picture and not get caught up in the shorter term. This universe has been around far longer than any of us and is constantly in a state of flux and growth. Science and spirituality are coming back together again with more recent research and discoveries. In fact they were never apart. Science and spirituality have always underpinned each other. It is just the constructs and beliefs of, relatively speaking, a small number of people that created the divide some few hundred

years ago. Their thoughts had an ongoing impact on the rest of the world because people just accepted them by becoming reactive and then those thoughts became the norm reinforced by most people. People became mundane.

Unfortunately it is in the interests of those who crave power and its accessory, money, to keep control of people’s thoughts through limited dissemination of information , creation of sickness and its drugs, modified foods, instilling fear etc so that their thoughts become the majority and so the dominant ones.

As we awaken we begin to see and remember the big picture that underlies all. We can begin to recognise the grand design, our divine blueprint and our connections to greater worlds.

We can choose to remain mundane and be controlled and manipulated for the thoughts of a few.

Remember the phrase “divide and conquer” We see it happening all around us on a daily level. Let us think past that and think of a way to remove ourselves from the tentacles of short term dramas and come back to the purpose of the grand design.

With the advent of the internet we are able to get a wider source of information about most things and we can begin to see just how controlled

the information we receive through newspapers and radio/television really is. As we spend more time connecting with ourselves, nature and the environment, and the vastness of the universe our eyes also begin to open more and more.

Questions begin to surface and we can begin to make more informed choices. Individual thoughts do influence outcomes. Even just recognition of how we are “dumbed down” through television news and programs and the chemicals in the food and water we consume is a start. Recognition allows us to choose to take action. We can begin to become pro-active instead of re-active. Challenge and recognise the messages in tv programming and political statements, lessen the amount of chemicals we consume in food and water and more.

Every thought you change has a greater effect on the big picture.

For example: Do you choose war or peace? What thoughts do you really put out there? Do you subscribe to the concept of induced fear or not.

Relatively speaking many ideas and events considered to be of major importance to us here now are very, very insignificant hiccups in the life of the universe. We can choose to make this journey easier.

Bring ourselves back to some of the basic principles of spirituality.

Take ourselves out of the controlled rut of everyday life. Begin to think for ourselves. Come back to the true concepts of love, hope, and faith.

Be the director of our own movie instead of a bit player in others.

We need to bring healing and balance into our lives so that our new thoughts can bring healing

and balance back to the rest of the planet. We need to change our habits, remove the barriers, break down the artificial fences, end the difference, extend compassion and love our neighbours as we (supposedly) love ourselves.

How can we speed up this process? Look at the foods we eat, challenge the information presented to us and begin to take care of ourselves through meditation, exercise and healing. Using and experiencing the newer forms of healing such as Spectra Healing using light, sound, information, love and ideal mental state allows us to connect to the perfection that is us allowing for appropriate healing on all levels, physical, mental, spiritual and emotional. Healing is not just for the physically sick but allows us to better ourselves to offer hope for the future.

A Celebration of Children

The journey into Higher Consciousness

BY DAVID LANE The bulk of the population tend to take the easiest path through life because it requires less effort and seems to be less risky and therefore; feels safer. Another primary pursuit is happiness along with the avoidance of unhappiness. There are no surprises there! There is nothing wrong with these choices, however; there is a higher challenge but it tends to take us out of our comfor t zone. This is the journey into higher consciousness which requires a lot more effort; both mentally and physically. The rewards are huge and they far outstrip the effort.

Happiness can be a by-product of higher consciousness, however; it is often stimulated by external experiences and forces such as friendship, relationships, shopping sprees, holidays, money, material possessions etc. Higher consciousness creates an inner peace that is a more permanent state of being whereas happiness experienced by outside stimulation is subject to being controlled or manipulated by the same outside experiences and forces. For instance; if any of the examples mentioned above were to be removed then it is highly likely that the associated happiness would too.

This same situation would not affect inner peace because this state of being is not affected by outside forces. The by product of this higher state is incredibly empowering because it creates states of inner calm and power that do not alter with what is happening on the surface.

I have known wealthy people who displayed a high level of happiness, confidence and power that attracted a cer tain amount of respect and sometimes, envy, from others. They also projected a image of calm and inner peace. I have also known some of these people to lose their wealth.

They still tried to hold on to the level of happiness that attracted the respect, however; something was missing. The energy that they projected told a different story – a story of failure, emotional pain and negativity. Thus the original projection of happiness, confidence and power was replaced with an opposite energy which was extremely negative ( providing you had the ability to see through the mask!). There is no balance in that kind of happiness and there are many examples of those who were once happily riding very high and then taking their own life when they fell. If they truly had calm and inner peace then it would have been reflected in their ability to handle the stressful situation a lot more positively.

The journey into higher consciousness is an arduous step by step process that requires commitment and discipline. It cannot be achieved overnight because it requires a process of; acquiring knowledge and information - processing and assimilation - applying the new understanding to life (road testing it) - reflection – gaining wisdom and a higher awareness from the experience –changing any old belief systems that are superseded

by the new understanding. Self honesty is a major ingredient in this process if higher consciousness is to be gained. There are no shortcuts to this process if you want to gain the most out of the experience.

Sometimes we get inspirational moments that project us forward into a higher state of awareness.

These can come in many forms such as miracles, visions, powerful dreams, being inspired by the feats by others. They are often pivotal moments that create positive jumps in our spiritual journey. They can be very inspiring, however; we still have to do the walking to get to the end of our individual path - nobody can do the walking for us. Thus; the journey into higher consciousness is mostly a challenging step by step process that includes commitment, discipline and patience. Sometimes this journey gets injected with experiences that motivate or inspire us to keep walking. We can always be absolutely certain that we are not walking alone and that every step we take is getting us closer to enlightenment.

In thinking about what I was going to write about, my thoughts kept going to a subject very dear to my heart.

That is, the subject of children.

I was a school teacher for twenty years, during which time I worked with hundreds of children from Reception to Year Seven, both as a classroom teacher and in later years, as a drama and music specialist.

This gave me the ideal opportunity to observe children in many different situations. Even twenty or thirty years ago I used my knowledge of numerology as well as more conventional methods to help me to better understand children so that I could bring out the best in each of them. I saw a vast range of behaviours, of emotions, of reactions to home situations. I saw the effect that eating or drinking certain foods had on children. And many other circumstances that affected how children cope with their world.

Over time I also observed the differing sensitivities of children.

Each of us has chosen a different path and that of course means that each child has their own unique path to follow too.

In the beautiful Thetahealing work that I have been doing since 2004, I have been fortunate to work with many children. More and more children are being born sensitive and intuitive. Some have become behaviour problems, often because they are unable to handle their heightened intuition or sensitivity.

To help in this area, I have worked with children as young as one or two and up to and including all teenage years. (I encourage at least one parent to be present for any of this work.) After one or two appointments most children show considerable improvement in how they cope with the world. Once their energy has been cleared and they learn how to clear their own energy, they quickly become happy and confident. I teach them also how to cope with being sensitive in our world. We work together on any beliefs that may be making it difficult for them to relate to others, we help them heal any past hurts or traumas, we increase their confidence to relate to other children and we show them how to have confidence in their own abilities.

Some of the indicators that help are identifying any physical, mental, social or emotional challenges they have in their bodies. These help to pinpoint what the underlying belief systems are that are holding them back.

It is important to see all children being happy, healthy and confident to be the best they possibly can be.

I want to see them able to develop good relationships with others.

I am fortunate to have five amazing grandchildren, all of whom are a joy to be with. They are only young but are already showing signs of developing in to fine human beings.

We need to look for the best in children and to praise and acknowledge

it. The more children know they are loved unconditionally and approved of in all their uniqueness, the more confident they can be. At the same time children need to know boundaries on what is and is not okay for them to do.

I spend great moments with each of my grandchildren. Today I spent time with my six year old grandson inspecting some beautiful crystals and choosing some he could take to school for show and tell. He loves crystals and has a number of friends and his siblings who share his interest. When with me, we always have to inspect them and choose the treasure of the day. Sometimes we walk in the garden and observe nature at its best. We make discoveries of birds, of insects and any other creatures we can find. What fun and what joy it brings.

How can we can help our children?

We can steer them away from harsh and negative environments.

We can teach them how to look for and encourage the best in others by setting a good example. Show them how to greet friends and relate to others, how to feel valued and to value others.

Think about what you say. Think about the effect that your words may have on a precious child. Refrain from criticising and using harsh language with anyone. In whatever you do, be aware that a child may be observing you and follow your example.

Even if you choose not to have children of your own, be responsible for helping to make our world a better place to be. Remember that the children of today are the adults of tomorrow. We are all able to take par t in making our world a much better place for all to be part of.

Let us rejoice in the future of our world - our children.

EFT Tapping Turned Nurse’s Life Around

BY ANNIE O’GRADY Community nurse and mother Amelia, thirty-four years old, found herself struggling with life for years, especially after a bout of post-natal depression.

Even with the support of her husband and friends, she lost confidence in herself, her mothering, her work. She felt increasingly ashamed of her body image, of how she looked with or without clothes.

She wanted to advance her career but could not find the courage to get started on study because she was afraid of failing.

Several years on, Amelia came to me to try the stress relief technique called EFT tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques) . She had read accounts of how people had moved on from depression and anxiety via this ground-breaking self help acupressure-and-mindfulness healing aid.

‘Tapping’ refers to tapping with the fingertips on a set of endpoints of meridian energy circuits on your head and upper body, while you make simple statements relevant to any of a huge range of life problems (one difficulty at a time!).

A big advantage of this technique is that, as people easily release stress this way, they find themselves making cognitive shifts – the goal of therapy – spontaneously. That is, they move to constructive new perspectives.

As an EFT practitioner and trainer I worked with Amelia for two sessions, guiding her to reach such shifts. I included the Matrix Reimprinting process, an adaptation of EFT. She cancelled a third session because she felt she didn’t need it.

Plus, through her session experience, she was already learning to use EFT in daily life to help herself and her children quickly banish negative emotions and thoughts, with the help of my DIY book ‘Tapping Your Troubles Away with EFT’ .

ACCEPTANCE : Tribute to a Master ( a love letter to my mum)

BY FRAN TOMLIN Acceptance. Its hard. One of the toughest concepts or values to get our heads around , never mind our Spirits in alignment with.

Things have escalated to such an extent on our planet in these times ( bearing in mind there is no time, we’re all in a simultaneous multidimensional experience) trying to reach tipping point with critical mass to such a degree that the “dark” is even blacker than ever pushing against the Light ..really and truly stripping away all illusion ; ready to leave the bare bones, pure & Light. We are all wrestling with acceptance & surrender, each in our own way.

I am blessed to have had, and still do, a remarkable teacher in my life. This woman is a Master.

She has mastered the ar t of acceptance over a lifetime, and i have been honoured to watch her do it. This Master is my mother. Rae Jessie Tomlin. They say that when the student is ready the Master will come. I used to wonder when my Master would come..for years i looked everywhere. One day it struck me. It may have been during of the darkest nights of my Soul, i may have been out in the sunshine enjoying the dance of a Butterfly..i don’t know the moment. All i know is , i mustve been ready from birth

.My Master was right there. She said she knew when my soul entered the fetus , she was in the bath & 4 mths pregnant when she felt an almighty whoosh! that took her breath away..

From then on according to the ‘contract’ that she & i had made, in our own par ticular journey, together we forded the depths , the pits, the Mountains & the heights like some Shakespearean tragedy. I learnt from her like i learnt from no other.

The choices she made which led her to feelings of family ostracization, how she fought to live her truth in the face of barely contained ridicule & downright disapproval, how she became a Buddhist nun for 11yrs never cutting her raphunzel locks , and giving away her inherited trappings of wealth to all and sundry, whomever needed it. She solely bought and help found a Buddhist Centre in Joburg, South Africa (to a diabolical onslaught from family & Trust lawyers), along with her guru Mamo dev providing a haven for the hapless & lost. That place saved lives. Years later,when her Guru was dying of cancer she flew to her side in America & tended to her for 3yrs throughout the ugliness & pain.

My Mother , the Master, has always known her mission to be that of a Peacemaker..she was a Lightworker before the word was invented. At

this moment she is battling serious congestive hear t failure , in hospital, but in each moment still aiding those around her, whether it be the nursing staff, visitors in general or other patients , offering her Light, her insight & Love. I watched ,not long ago, as she went thru the truly darkest nights of her soul in attempting to come to terms with her fast failing health and a swift & radical shift in circumstances, all things that would’ve slain a strong man. This woman emerged spiritually out the other side embracing ,as always, true & abject acceptance, with Grace. She lays her absolute trust in the Divine, as ever. And when you ask her, laying in her hospital bed, small & vulnerable with shaky hands and broken voice, how is she today ? she answers with the most beautiful smile glowing through her glorious blue eyes, “ im absolutely fine! “ I have learnt so much from you Mum, thank you , you will forever be my cherished Teacher.
