The multi-tasking founder Hardik Varia from Ahmedabad describes here how the idea came to his mind that he should try this venture, though he already had ‘Whiskers’, men’s grooming products’ brand. ABOUT THE COMPANY The brand Phade was established in the spring of 2021 by Hardik Varia who is also the founder of brand Whiskers. As mentioned above, Whiskers serves luxurious men’s grooming products. Phade was born to create commendable skin care products using plant extracts, sustainable farming, and green practices which results in producing a dynamic range of skin care products.

The team believes in providing the best skin care products possible. It was for the first time that Varia thought of having a skin care company when his wife was pregnant in 2018. Not finding satisfying products, his idea of starting a new company became intense. Varia used to have discussions with his wife regarding hormonal changes and how the body used to react during and post-pregnancy. Finally, he decided to have a skin care company that could honestly serve other problems like itchy skin due to diabetes, eczema, psoriasis, etc. too. These were the ones that he saw in his family members and relatives.

The founder and team members want people to feel and be more confident as far as their appearance is concerned. The role of skin care cosmetics is to guide users to fresh and healthy beautiful skin. At Phade, formulation development is worked on, focusing not only on skin effects for that purpose but also on sensibility values such as security and comfort to keep using it with satisfaction. The formulation and process from which we derive our actives are registered trademarks and so, it’s not only difficult but impossible to copy and even if any other brand is trying to do that, the results will vary.”

Acquiring education at L J College of Commerce (BBA) and NAEMD (PG in Event Management), Varia saw himself as an entrepreneur later. Being multi-tasking, he likes to do all the work on his own. Also, he received appreciation from IIM, Ahmedabad for his management skills. Varia enthusiastically boasts about his work and passion which was to organize gigs. He used to promote international artists and music with the motive to develop an excellent music scenario in India and build a gateway. Norman Doray, Chris Montana, Dave Kurtis, Jaytech, Tom Fall, Peter Brown, Stan Kolev are some of the artists Varia has worked with. He got an opportunity to work closely with Nikhil Chinapa, to develop quite a good music scenario in India. In fact, he wishes to start own record label one day.

“I founded Whiskers (mens’ grooming brand) in 2017. I used to attend a lot of music festivals around the world where I noticed all the men focusing a lot on grooming i.e. from bodybuilding, hair styling, maintaining a good beard, and of course, smelling good. Everyone was looking dapper. I also observed what the shops were selling in terms of men’s grooming products andthat was when I figured out the gap and desperately wanted to start this trend in India. One of my friends also asked me to get a tattoo after-care product from Europe as there was no Indian brand fulfilling his necessity. I researched for a short time and saw that there were actually no Indian brands serving this virgin category.”

Burrowed among scenic oak and verdant pine forests, Lansdowne is one of the most beautiful hill stations near Delhi, famous for its scenic beauty, weather, and peaceful surroundings. If you are in it only for making money, don’t be an entrepreneur. If you cannot collaborate with people & deal with government authorities, don’t be an entrepreneur. If you cannot give insights into problems & find solutions every single day, don’t be an entrepreneur. If you are addicted to risk-taking or gambling, don’t be an entrepreneur. If you cannot work harder and longer than every single employee of the organization every single day, don’t be an entrepreneur.

But to be a global leader, set standards and to come up with products which the world craves & demands for tomorrow, investment in R&D and even more- an innovator’s mindset is necessary- one that is different from the Jugaad (Break-fix/ workaround) mindset. There was a time when Chinese products were associated with cheap, poor quality and non-durability. But China has been working aggressively to change that perception. According to stats, in 2021, China will be the No 1 country worldwide in terms of spending on R&D, with the expenditure exceeding 621 billion U.S. dollars. THE POWER OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Man and machines work differently as machines are the intelligent creation of Human beings. Machines were created to make human life easier and man loves mechanism. It is very difficult not to love something that you created to obey. Whenever a machine is well made and it will carry out your life automatically then it is proved to be man’s best friend. These technologies were in making since at least the 4th century BCE. Machines were made for multipurpose such as to move water, machines to move the rock in construction, machines to move needles and thread. Automata are abstract machines that were made to move things for us. Over the past few years, the human race has come up with numerous inventions, each one is more resourceful than the last one. Moreover, as the computer age continues to develop, the mankind is somehow threatened. Additionally, the age of computer has already begun to control man’s life so many of the vital functions that man has prided himself upon before can be done just one click away. The real anxiety about AI and robotics appears to be a natural viewpoint for humans, from the first appearance of the term ‘robot’ in the year 1920s in Karel Čapek play, Rossum’s Universal Robots. In this book, a race of robotic servants wiped out humanity, to James’ Cameron’s synthetic intelligence which is ‘Skynet’ in the Terminator franchise. The play of three acts by Czech gave us the word ‘Robot’.

USE OF MACHINES Machines are ruling the 20th Century and we are surrounded by different day to day machines like televisions, refrigerators, music systems, home theatres, washing machines for various uses. It is said that the use of these machines made our life much simpler and easier in fast running society. Artificial Intelligence in terms of Machines is much faster than humans when it comes to processing information and performing calculations with accuracy and speed. Apart from that, the computers have a better memory that can be fed with a large amount of information as compared to humans. Machines always work effortlessly and more efficiently in time than humans. Hereby, the use of machines rather than humans increases productivity and the products can be produced in larger quantities at much greater speed with the help of machines. MAN AND MACHINE RELATIONSHIP It is recognized that machines and AI have a better ability to crunch enormous amounts of data in a very short period of time and it improves the real outcomes with lower costs. There is no point that Man is trying to compete on these fronts, leaders can use their emotional intelligence, comprehension capability, and decision-making capability that machines are not equipped to address but work is always done efficiently by machines. Therefore men should develop the competency to train AI systems, build models and assimilate large quantum of data in order to synthesize the data into meaningful insights.

Human beings also need to learn to appreciate the dynamics of the machine to machine relationship as well as man to machine relationship. It is advisable to build a team and then manage the capability of teams comprising of both machines and humans. What this would also lead to is to be able to constantly adapt to shifting balance of power and influence of both man and machine.Collaboration with teams and valuing the contribution of partners and interest groups would become even more critical in the coming years in order to foster innovation. THE INTELLIGENCE LOOP But before Artificial Intelligence can accomplish these aims, the AI systems must be given a specific purpose. A company doesn’t just proclaim that they have AI, and therefore, all of its workers sit around thinking and conversing like some utopian society where only machines work and men’s rest. No! it doesn’t work this way, AI systems must be directed to analyze historical data by someone (Man) who has created an algorithm to solve a defined problem. The AI functions cannot exist without human guidance because it is Man who created one. In the same way, humans beings get smarter based on the information they learn from the machine analysis system. Moreover, People can now apply their higher-order skills to make decisions based on the data coupled with their own knowledge base. Artificial Intelligence systems subsequently interpret what humans do with the information they generated. Additionally, they get smarter based on these interactions, and systems are refined every time with new changes.
