Technology has seeped into all aspects of our lives, changing how we learn, communicate, and enjoy life. In light of recent advances, the gaming industry, which is a large and growing part of our culture, has shattered many barriers. There has been a sudden surge in user levels in gaming industry over the last few years. This is due to technology. The growth of online gaming has prompted several changes, most of which have led to progress. Many professional gamers have attained new heights, especially playing online games. High-end visuals that make each game more immersive, the utilisation of AR & VR that makes games realistic, and safer and more secure payment ways are driving its appeal and attracting new players.

In a similar light, FPS, over-the-shoulder games, strategy games, and other categories continue to grow in popularity. Players keep returning to them because of their heartfelt stories, timeless foundations, captivating characters, and interactive gameplay - all encased in alluring graphics and mechanics. In short, technology and innovation are taking the gaming experience to heights never thought possible. Now, the question that comes to mind is how its limits can be pushed further.

The gaming industry is thriving, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. In 2021, the market was valued at $198.40 billion, which is expected to reach a value of $339.95 billion by 2027, with a CAGR of 8.94%. One area that can significantly contribute to this growth is end-to-end customer service. While the industry has interminable potential, only a few brands focus on customer support or service. Appropriate customer service helps in scaling satisfaction levels, reaching more gamers, and receiving real-time feedback to improve products and services. Arise Gaming is a US-based consultant driving the idea that customer service is a strategic function that can enhance the overall gaming experience and deliver long-term value. In our entrancing edition, we are privileged to publish its story and how it’s transforming gaming experiences around the globe.

While breaking numerous barriers, the gaming industry has also had to contend with many myths, such as the notion that video games are to blame for crimes and violence. While I don’t intend to dig too deep, I believe gaming has perks for both kids and adults. Its purpose is to serve happiness, and if we interact properly, people will get over such notions.

Chris Gardner is a $70 million net worth American entrepreneur, author, motivational speaker, and investor. Chris Gardner’s life story was popularised by the film “The Pursuit of Happ(y)ness,” starring Will Smith. Chris experienced a true “rags to riches” story, emerging from homelessness to become a multi-millionaire. He finally established a profitable brokerage firm.

Early Life:

Thomas Turner and Bettye Jean Gardner welcomed Chris Gardner into the world on February 9, 1954 in Milwau kee, Wisconsin. Bettye Jean had two children and Chris was the youngest and her only son. Ophelia, his older half-sister, is from a previous marriage. His mother’s mar riage to Freddie Triplett gave birth to Sharon and Kimberly, his younger sisters.

Due to his father’s presence in Louisiana at the time of Gardner’s birth and his stepfather’s physical abuse of both his mother and his sisters, Gardner did not grow up with many strong male role models. Gardner and his sisters were continually scared of Triplett because of his outbursts of fury. When Triplett fraudulently accused Bettye Jean of welfare fraud, the situation resulted in her being imprisoned, and the kids were given to foster parents. When Gardner was eight years old, his mother was found guilty of attempting to kill Triplett by setting the house on fire while he was inside. As a result, Gardner and his sisters were placed in foster care once more.Gardner met his three maternal uncles, Henry, Willie, and Archibald, for the first time while in foster care. Of the three, Henry had the most impact on Gardner because he came into his life at a time when he most needed a supportive father figure. Chris was nine years old when Henry, however, lost his life in the Mississippi River. When their mother came to Henry’s burial being led by a prison guard, the kids found out that their mother had been locked up.

“The Pursuit of Happyness” WHOSE LIFE BECAME THE MOVIE

Bettye Jean was a strong and good role model for her son Chris despite her very miserable marriage and extended absences. She planted the seeds of independence in Gardner by encourag ing him to have confidence in himself. She is quoted by Gardner as saying, “Only you can rely on yourself. The cavalry is not coming.” Gardner also came to the conclusion from his early experiences that he wished to steer clear of alcoholism, domes tic violence, child abuse, illiteracy, dread, and weakness in the future.

Career

Gardner made the decision to join the military after completing his secondary education after being inspired by his Uncle Henry’s overseas ex ploits in the U.S. Navy. He served as a hos pital corpsman at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina for four years while stationed there. Dr. Robert Ellis, a distinguished San Francisco cardiac surgeon he got to know, offered Gardner a job helping him with cut ting-edge clinical research at the University of California Medical Center and Veterans Administration Hospital in San Francisco. When Gardner received his Navy discharge in 1974, he accepted the job offer and relo cated to San Francisco. He gained knowl edge of running a laboratory and various surgical procedures over the course of two years.

Following his discharge from the military in 1981, Gardner worked as a research lab assistant at UCSF and the Veterans’ Hospital. His salary as an assistant in a research lab was just approximately $8,000 per year, which was insuffi cient to support a live-in girlfriend and a child. After four years, he left these occupations and began working as a salesperson of medical equipment, where he doubled his income.

Entrepreneurship

After making a sales visit to a San Francisco General Hospital, he saw a man in a red Ferrari who was immaculately dressed and driving. This experience proved to be a turning point in his life. Gardner was curious, so he inquired about the man’s occupation. Gardner’s career path was established when the

man revealed to him that he worked as a stockbroker. In Chi cago, Illinois, Gardner founded Gardner Rich & Co. in 1987. This institutional brokerage firm specialises in the execution of debt, equity, and derivative products transactions for some of the biggest institutions, public pension systems, and unions in the country. With $10,000 in startup funds and just one piece of furniture—a wooden desk that served as the family dining ta ble—he launched his new business in his compact Presidential Towers apartment.

The “Rich” in the name of the company was meant to honour commodities trader Marc Rich, who had no link to the business and was someone Gardner had never met, but who Gardner regarded as “one of the most successful futures traders in the world.” Gardner founded and served as the CEO of Chris topher Gardner International Holdings, which has offices in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, after selling his little ownership in Gardner Rich in a multimil lion-dollar deal in 2006. Nelson Mandela and Gardner had a meeting to discuss potential investments in South Africa’s emerging markets while Gardner was in South Africa to monitor elections around the time of the 10th anniversary of the end of apartheid. There, Gardner had plans to invest, hoping to bring millions of dollars in foreign money and hundreds of jobs to the nation. Invoking securities rules, Gardner has chosen not to reveal any information about the initia tive.

Personal Life:

Chris Gardner wed Sherry Dyson, a Virginia native and math teaching specialist, on June 18, 1977. He started an affair with Jackie Medina, a dentistry student, while still living with Sher ry, and she became pregnant with his child just a few months later. He divorced Sherry after three years of marriage in order to live with Jackie and got ready to become a father. He and Sherry were separated for nine years before getting a divorce in 1986. Christopher Jarrett Gardner Jr., his son, was born on January 28, 1981.

Anirudh is an engineer from Symbiosis International University, Pune. He brings with him rich research experience in the field of Computer Science. It was for his proven academic excellence that he was awarded a full scholarship for his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, USA. It was his love for animals and his strong belief in the idea that Anirudh took a sabbatical from his research work and decided to go full throttle on the idea. He is also the Co-Founder and will be directly involved with the app development team and also be in a techno-managerial role with the team.

Ashish is the Co- Founder of this Firm and heads operations and logistics segment. He is an engineer from Symbiosis International University, Pune. WHAT MAKES ANIMATE DIFFERENT?

Some great brand names have emerged recently for its pet services. AniMate is like an aggregator to all such services. AniMate has all the pet services under one roof. The rewardbased quiz is again a creative solution to educate people about the safety of animals. This solution has made AniMate more inviting and rewarding.

Anirudh Srivastava says “ At AniMate, we have also tried to squash the concept of coupon codes. We do not believe in giving lower prices for the first time, we want to give the best prices continuously. We want to add value to a pet parent’s life. We believe humans who take care of animals have an amazing soul, we’re just trying to make their experience better.”

THE INSIDE STORY:

The company planned to launch the app in the last week of March. Unfortunately, then the pandemic struck. The team then shifted its focus on tying up with brands, and app development.

The team began using the time on social media marketing. AniMate stories of pet parents were rolled out which worked wonders in setting up a connection with the audience. “Even before our app was launched, we had 50 odd people who were excited to browse through our app and shop. says Anirudh.

Another solid barrier that applied brakes on AniMate’s movements was the lack of finances.

“We are a bootstrapped startup and thus our spendings have been limited. But what this has done for us is that we know the optimum solution to most of the problems- brand deals, logistics, tech development, sales, and marketing. A big problem with most startups is developing trust with customers. Again our social media presence and regularity in reaching out to customers helped us greatly in that.” shares Anirudh.

In less than a year, the company is tied up with brands at a PAN India level. AniMate has a customer base that spreads to all parts of the country. The team is linked with multiple social media influencers who’ve shared their stories. (Rashika Rajput, Divya Duggar, Raspreet Sidhu, and Isha Anand Sharma). The AniMate team has done a stray animal welfare fundraiser during the lockdown and completed the first 100 unique orders in about a month.

Anirudh believes that it’s a great time to launch a startup in India. There are tremendous opportunities both in terms of market and government policies.

Though he understands that cracking those government funds isn’t easy but is optimistic about the fact that there are options now. There are MSMEs where funding up to one crore is available. There are separate options available for female entrepreneurs as well.

Besides this, incubation centers set up in educational institutes offer an opportunity to set up a workplace and also find mentors for your startup.

Being an aggregator platform Animate deals with both businesses and customers. AniMate currently has 15 brands on board and is in talks with almost a dozen more. The majority of these brands are Indian startups who are equally passionate about pet care.

“As a company policy, we have stayed away from Chinese brands which are also our differentiators. We have had to say no to some really well-known names but it’s a non-compro misable thing for us. We have Drools, Royal Canin, PurePet, PetBowl.in, Papa Pawsome, Paws A Little, Pawla Land, Pet Mave, Pet Logix to name a few.” shares Anirudh

At the end of our conversation, Anirudh advises young entrepreneurs to research what they do. He thinks that everyone must find a mentor in their life who can help them overcome the roadblocks. He also advises not to be scared to start a business. There are a lot of opportunities and support if one shows a willingness to take a charge of their life.

The Founder and CEO, Subrata Kundu locked down from Mumbai with a vision to set up a business venture in Kolkata, that will offer creative and customised IT solutions at the global level.
