WOMEN IN ARTS CRAFTS & DESIGN 2021 Shaunali Nanda, Founder, Sloane Luxury Interiors Kajal Dobhal | Innovative Zone
GIVE US A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF SLOANE LUXURY INTERIORS. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR FACETS OF YOUR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY AND YOUR EXPERTISE AS A DESIGNER THAT YOU WANT US TO HIGHLIGHT THROUGH THE ARTICLE? Sloane Luxury Interiors is an Interior design firm that offers Interior designs that is everlasting and elegant, working in traditional, classic, modern and even contemporary styles, adhering to the classic rules of design and giving an interior that is harmonious, balanced and symmetrical. I had the good fortune working for very traditional classic and rather conservative firms and for people in the firm who were older, multifaceted in design and extremely experienced who taught me a lot and nurtured my taste like David Warren, Jonathan Condrup, Late Alex Rhodes Daniella Masccceti, Late Joe Spellman, Tom Moloney , Julette Simpson, Mark Coats, Randall Yaw, Colleen Caslin and Robert Chavez. Being in visual, I had the opportunity of working with various creators, artists, manufacturers, store design architects, multiple construction vendors, events-working with press and PR, creating beautiful environments with multiple mediums and multi-faceted creators. An amalgamation of all this together daily made my sense of taste and style grow with my awareness.

WALK US THROUGH YOUR EARLY EDUCATION AND PRIOR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE. WHAT FACTORS LED YOU TO UNDERTAKE THE ENTREPRENEURIAL ROUTE AND ESTABLISH SLOANE LUXURY INTERIORS? I went to Modern School Barakhamba Road then to Lady Shri Ram College (English Hons), I worked at Frazer and Haws in the early days -an environment that drew on history and had my first packaging and marketing experience than to Sotheby’s Institue for History Of Decorative Run by the University of Manchester. After which, I worked at Christie’s with David Warren where I was the lead researcher on the Mughal Jewels Sale, the largest Mughal jewels collection to go on auction, then I worked at Doyle in New York, started the Retail chain and furnishings store Villa D’ este with my mother Sita Nanda. Later, I went to the GIA in New York. After which I worked for Joe Spellman for design packaging in Fragrance and Cosmetics for Jemma Kidd and Mary Greenwell. Joe Spellman introduced me to Julette Simpson at Van Cleef Arpels, where I worked on the opening of the salon at Bergdorf Goodman along with store design and store-instore concepts, special event design and window and visual design all over the country. The annual VIP dinner and press launch, new store openings, in Chicago, palm beach and Beverly Hills, after which I worked for Cartier on the Love Launch at Saks Fifth Avenue. Then, I met Mark Coats the Visual Director at Hermes and worked for him on the windows for the 25 stores with multiple visual artists, in-store event design, new store opening, learnt a lot about retail and Merchandising from Robert Chavez. After this, I joined Tiffany and Co to work on store interiors for China and then visual for the USA. Before returning to India, I started independent work on 12
Visuals for Bulgari and Chanel simultaneously. 10 years of experience in Luxury along with exposure to Artists and creators, working on store design and visual representation of the most classic brands, enhanced my taste and sense of style. In India, my mom is in the business which I joined and realised that clients need direction and a complete concept that is price sensitive, a home that is tasteful, sophisticated and internationally elegant and can represent a family. Sloane started with the intention of taking this further, educating the client towards elegance and style and delivering that in one package- complete.

TELL US ABOUT THE INCEPTION JOURNEY OF THE COMPANY. WHAT WERE THE INITIAL DAYS LIKE AND WHAT WERE SOME MAJOR CHALLENGES THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME IN THE EARLY DAYS OF RUNNING SLOANE LUXURY INTERIORS? Internationally, I was just gaining momentum and with the developer program which specialised in doing luxurious show houses in great taste and style in a one-price complete package fully accessorised for a great customer living experience. I got a lot of responses on that from real estate agents and brokers who realised how much time and money they were saving. Trust was the biggest challenge I had to overcome because this was a new market and it was international. They did not know that I could really do what I was saying, but I did and it took one project and one good reference that could open more doors.
WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS INTERIOR AND DESIGN SERVICES THAT SLOANE LUXURY INTERIORS SPECIALIZES IN? WHAT IS THE FIRM’S USP THAT DIFFERENTIATES THE FIRM FROM ITS CONTEMPORARIES IN THE INDUSTRY? We offer complete Interior Design, with our own four-storey manufacturing unit where we make furniture and source from all over the world, a team of architects and draughtsman, production managers and logistical teams. We present a full concept for a house or room with a full furnishing colour scheme and accessories, along with soft furnishing curtains and window design and source lighting, carpets, rugs, and art. We have the arm of SITA NANDA and Theodore Alexander with our showroom in MG Road and our furnishing Showroom villa D’ este. Symmetry, balance, harmony and continuity combined with classic unsaid rules of design remain integral to our approach.

I also love using classic styles of furniture, fabrics, lighting and accessories that have been used many times over the years, I really wish clients would also use them as they are classic and everlasting and give home the pageantry that classic sophisticated homes need. Sloane conceptualises your decorating needs according to budget, style and personal taste, giving your homes a look that is elegant and timeless. The company works in classic, modern and contemporary styles, giving interiors that connect one room to another like family is colours of walls and furnishings that harmonise with the furniture, never failing to put in the element of surprises and glamour.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERTISE AS A DESIGNER. WHAT ARE SOME DESIGN STYLES THAT ARE YOUR SIGNATURE? WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM AS A CREATIVE PERSON? I am very intuitive and agile. I can put rooms together with furnishings, colours, lightings and accessories quickly and harmoniously but I do adhere to subtlety, comfort and warmth above all sophistication. I love the restrained elegance of Neo-Classical homes, I still like the colonial-style without the carving with a focus on wood, planning and layout are key. I also love a term called Hollywood glamour where the interiors were modern and luxurious at the same time with a strong focus on art and lighting. Now, it would be Vintage that I prefer. Of course, social media is great. But I always refer to history and great designers who I have admired for their sobriety and sense of complete balance like Billy Baldwin, Lorenzo Mongiardino, later Bunny Williams, Charlotte Moss and Alexa Hampton. I also loved the films of Cecil Beaton, a set designer and photographer he designed the Ascot scene in My Fair Lady, I loved the work of Vincent Minnelli, he made Gigi. I love the sense of style of the homes on Park Avenue and Palm Beach that have so much character and warmth.
WALK US THROUGH ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING DESIGN PROJECTS THAT YOU HAVE WORKED ON. WHAT REQUIREMENTS DID THE CLIENT COME TO YOU WITH AND HOW DID YOUR DESIGN SENSIBILITIES HELP YOU DELIVER THE FINAL OUTPUT? My favourite client is always Mr. K P Singh. He is very clear about what he wants and my taste matches him. He has a great sense of proportion and colour. He is most inspirational and motivating and I always keep learning something from him. I had the good fortune of working for Hermes, during the Year of India. All the windows of Hermes stores all over America were to be decorated with the theme of India, and I had the good fortune of interpreting India to an American team of 20 people who had never been to India and who were now going to Interpret India. I lead a conference for Hermes on India in Chicago with a tour of Indian Miniature painting at The Art Institute of Chicago. The Finale were the holiday windows in New York, Wall Street (New York), Beverly Hills and Chicago, and Bal Harbour. I had given a present to the mark of two paintings that I bought from a miniature artist in Jaipur of horses whose figures internally were painted with Mughal flowers and herbs and a full Mughal court scene. Hermes loved them and themed the above store windows around these horses that were commissioned by Hermes and painted in large scale for these store windows. And today, they adorn the walls of the New York corporate office permanently. I decorated Sovereign Interiors in London. I painted the walls Hunter Green with white wainscoting, a working fireplace, classic English furniture and lighting and it all resembled The English Clubs of St James’s. I am currently working on an area of a home in Amrita Shergill Marg of a young couple that is getting married. The bride has excellent taste and like me is intuitive. I am doing classic/modern home for them with wainscoting and moulding, full TV unit with a library, shutters with mullions, with a focus on fabric and colours that are subtle but classic. I love doing this project because it is just the kind of interior I like working on that take you away to another world. 14
INDIA | WWW.INNOVATIVEZONEINDIA.COM | Vol. 3 Special Edition January 2022
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF ALIGNED WITH THE VARIOUS TRENDS DEVELOPING IN THE INDUSTRY? I love the great Hollywood old films and draw so much inspiration from them with their beautifully decorated homes and sets, costume and lyrics, like the last scene of Daddy Long Legs, the wedding gift room in high society, the beautiful English manor in the Grass is greener, Art Deco London in Indiscreet . I look at everything while I am driving silently whether here or abroad. I look at the building I like and then it is period and who the Architects were. Looking at these buildings teaches me proportion which is so important in this business. I always look at restaurants, hotels and shop environments and how they make me feel, I listen to people when they talk as they have more knowledge than me and listen to the clues that they are giving. I like to see important interior design projects like the Lowell hotel in New York and sit and observe. I always go back to the work of tastemakers that have lived through different times as they always have the answers. I meet every vendor who comes to show me something that they are doing, it’s very important to know what people are making. Above all, I try and make everyone feel good and improve myself as a person every day, which gives you the most clarity. When this trait finds it in design-you are made.
IN YOUR OPINION WHAT ARE SOME FACETS OF YOUR PERSONALITY THAT HAVE HELPED YOU PROPEL THE COMPANY FURTHER IN ITS JOURNEY?
much. I saw so much and met so many people. God gave me this to heal and today, I have taken all this experience that I have put into Sloane Luxury Interiors to let me do what I love.
I work the best alone. Make your client believe in you. Money is not everything but your work is. Work honestly, own up to a mistake and rectify it. Always give a client what they love.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR WORDS OF ADVICE BE TO ASPIRING DESIGNERS AND ENTREPRENEURS? Be patient, money is not everything, look at the big picture not the small, look ahead not what’s near you. Less is more, when you look at an interior start looking in, don’t be afraid, design what you like, it is not permanent, you will learn more and grow more, it will get better, be yourself, design should be your identity, take elements from your roots, elements where you are living. Appreciate Indian weaving as much as Japanese pottery, find beauty in everything, promote your work rather than yourselves, make a room beautiful so they can make owners feel beautiful.
I think I had many challenges that were sudden but long-lasting, I made many sacrifices and had to walk away from many things that I loved and had to learn to adjust to many situations and people suddenly, lots of these moments were alone. I had to wake up the next day carry on, and the best way to do this was to love what you do and do it well. I got so engrossed in my work and had such great and nice people to work for Julette Simpson and Mark Coats, whom I truly miss working for, who taught me so 15

A CONCEPT INTRODUCED BY JAPAN IS FAST SPREADING AROUND THE WORLD, BUT NOT IN INDIA
There’s a famous parable of a curious girl who questioned a lot. Long ago there lived a girl who was very different and had many questions in her mind. At the age of 10, her mother asked to learn cooking. The girl questioned ‘why’? The mother replied ‘so that you can feed yourself’. The girl accepted happily. When she was 15, her mother wanted her to learn the household chores. The girl again asked why? The mother replied ‘so that you can become self-dependent’. The girl accepted happily. When she was 20, her parents told her that she needs to get married soon. She again asked ‘why’. The mother replied ‘ because every girl should get married at this age’. She did not find the explanation satisfactory so she denied her parents. After talking to her parents, she convinced them that she was right. As the days went by, she began working with her father in her library. She read a lot, learned many hymns and her wisdom grew immensely.
Part Two One day, the news came from the king that he wanted to make a book that has all the knowledge. For that, he wanted all the great scholars from his various kingdoms across the country. After a lot of discussions, one of the communities selected the girl to represent the community as she was the brightest among all. When she reached the conference hall she was surprised to see that all the scholars were male. She climbed the stage to take her seat. Suddenly, everyone began mocking her. People commented on her clothes, her appearance as they had never seen a woman among scholars. People related this to religion, an act against god’s will and much more. But the girl stood against all odds and her curiosity to question made her win the debate and of course the hearts. The takeaway message is, you can’t create a parallel world where technology grows immensely and a section of humans stay behind. The more we follow the wait and watch defensive theory not letting the females step up and speak up, it affects all of us as a nation, socially, politically and financially. The fixed mindset approach has kept us from developing all these years. As a sporting nation, India is much dominated by males. In politics, There are almost all male candidates everywhere. IITs have fewer female students. In fact, movies too are male-oriented. We as a nation have been unable to create an atmosphere where both males and females are considered equal. We haven’t given enough opportunities to the women in the country.

A survey shows that more than 70% of the companies across the globe fail to prioritize gender equality in their workplaces. On a positive note, Japan is one such country that has been taking considerable steps for creating gender equality. The nation has introduced the concept of womenomics to increase women’s participation in the country’s growth. This idea has increased the involvement of women by 67% in Japan’s workforce. The United Kingdom too has been a frontrunner in expanding the female participation in the country’s growth. To ensure pay equality, the nation has made it compulsory for businesses to report pay data. Companies like KPMG and Deloitte have supportive maternity leave policies and reconnect programs to help new parents support their families as well as their career. Urban India has been on a rise when it comes to womenomics. There has been a rise in startups, a steady growth in promoting girls education. There have been skill development programs. State Police has been involved in training women and girls the art of selfdefense. Banks are increasingly attracting women by providing facilities such as attractive rates of interest. The country has witnessed the positive impact of such moves. The market is full of women-centric items. The malls and stores have so much to display.
The challenges are more complex when it comes to rural India. Generations of women have remained uneducated. To grow as a nation one needs the right education. India as a nation has a huge potential. The government has been trying to do away with the myths which have been holding the nation back. There are still some places which have no electricity, no transport and a lack of hospitals and schools. Womenomics is far fetched thing for such places. The change in the mindset would require a lot of resources, planned development, creation of jobs, creating opportunities. There are incredible things we can do as a gender-equal nation. The question remains are we pacing towards an empowered rural India or is it just a hoax that’s being displayed by the paid media?

here is a popular saying, “Only a woman knows what a woman needs.” And the quadrupling number of women entrepreneurship in women cosmetics is solid proof to justify it. Women are acing the cosmetic industry, especially in skincare and hair care. With the increasing urbanization and globalization, people have become more conscious about what they consume. And being conscious of how dangerous pollutants may be to the skin, they are becoming more aligned with qualified products. In India, cosmetics have an ever raging competitive market.
Whether professional or personal, grooming enhances selfesteem and helps in building an attractive personality. It also has a striking influence on the appearance - and how they regard themselves. Aware of these, Lely’s offers specially formulated products for Grooming, Hair Care, and Skin Care. And every collection is divided into specific categories. Its skincare collection focuses on Anti-Ageing, Dry Skin and Oily & Acne Range. Also, Haircare is sub-categorized into Hair Oil, Hair Lotion and Hair Serum. THE PINKPRENEUR AT LELY’S
“The way you care for your body, you must care for your skin too. Because self-care is simply the best stewardship, you can gift yourself,” Bhavini Khakhkhar. The founder is a virtuoso in skincare and a serial entrepreneur specializing in female grooming. The desire to be different was in Bhavini since childhood. She always had big dreams and outstanding leadership qualities. Growing up, she inherited her parents’ generosity and goodness, which enhanced her traits. She married a smart, ambitious man who shared and supported her core principles. After Nine Years of happy marriage, the couple sought to start their own venture. “We set to make this world a better place through varied products and set standards in quality and affordability,” says Bhavini. And that is how Lely’s came into existence. Under her thoughtful leadership, Lely’s is growing at a steady pace. Her vision fuels her commitment to be a constant learner, adaptive and improve necessary skills with knowledge. 26

As a serial entrepreneur, she is very customer-centric, and she keeps her brainchild aligned to their satisfaction. Also, she has created a young and passionate team. And just like herself, she empowers every associated member to improve their skills and knowledge and achieve their dreams. Bhavini has also founded E Mega Mart, an online store for various cosmetics and skincare products. She aims to see both brainchildren touch the stratosphere and have a seismic presence in the cosmetic realm.
BRACED FOR MODERN INDIAN MARKET
Bhavini’s resilient nature allows Lely’s keep up with modern times. Its team explores beauty trends, utilizes research papers, seeks guidance from industry experts, and enjoys working on the newest advancements. This helps in curating new products, float business pipelines and thrive. “It is our motive to create a win-win situation for both the company and client,” avers Bhavini. The research-based model also rewards industrial insights, knowledge to revamp existing processes into efficient ones while reducing costs. The value-added practices are what makes its products easy to use, safe to apply, and result-oriented. Moreover, the fact that its products are 100% cruelty-free positions them a notch higher than its peers. Lely’s places client happiness at the forefront of its operations and strives to provide the highest quality products with value-added services. Lely’s constant endeavour to keep up with times gave it an upper hand during COVID-19. The Pandemic is rapidly shifting the world and has compressed years of digital transitions. Lely’s, however, is an e-Brand working at a PAN India scale. Leveraging digital paths, it stayed in touch with its ground crew, who act as its eyes and ears. It also uses digital marketing channels for promotional purposes.
INHERENT VALUES OF THE SKIPPER
Bhavini Khakhkhar Founder
Furthermore, treating team members as friends, nurturing them with proper mentorship and helping in the needs of the extended family keeps employees engaged. “I believe that promoting the team within the company is beneficial as it motivates the other teams as well,” she states. Bhavini also keeps open lines of communication with everyone, encouraging them to voice any problems - they may have. “We also celebrate the achievements of each team member to boost their confidence,” she adjoins.
The ability to multitask while maintaining a work-life balance makes an entrepreneur stand out. However, women are born multi-taskers. Although it’s difficult, they maintain a balance between professional and personal, allowing space for work, leisure, family, and other activities. Being a serial entrepreneur, Bhavini balances all of her responsibilities perfectly. Furthermore, she has quite an incorrigible ideology about women empowerment. She quotes her perspective, “Whoever said that being a homemaker is an easy task surely has never done the job. I believe that every woman should work towards their dream rather than sitting idle at home.”
ACHIEVEMENTS WITH ROOM FOR MORE
Lely’s was envisioned to help Indian women outshine their beauty and personality. Needless to say, this vision has bear fruits in ways more than one. Besides a satisfied consumer base, the brand won ‘The Most Promising Beauty Brand’ award at the International Glory Awards 2021 from Bollywood celebrity Mr Sonu Sood. In short, Lely’s isn’t an overnight success. It took lots of hard work, R&D, planning, and executing strategies, and of course, the collaboration of customers and partners.
She, like others, has had to deal with the arduous obstacles of being an entrepreneur, but the benefits and opportunities keep her going. The benefits of a flexible work paradigm, including the ability to learn, be your own boss, and, most importantly, work toward your passion, outweigh the downsides. She believes that the motivation to keep pushing should originate from within, which helps her grow her brands. She also exudes a polished sense of style that is simple, elegant, and ready-towear.
Lely’s also has many projects in the pipeline for the near future. It’s set to cope up with trends and technology to drive customer needs. “We are so excited to go ahead with new product developments, and of course, to make you fall in love with nature,” states Bhavini promisingly.
A FAMILY OF TALENTS
“Family is a life-jacket in the stormy sea of life.” A company’s most valuable asset is its employees. And every company must have a culture that instils ideals in its employees and inspires them to improve. Lely’s have sustained a similar culture since its inception. It has team members working with them for 5+ years; and they’d been trained and nurtured since the inception. Its management panel primarily consists of people who rose from within the company. Bhavini takes a keen interest in upgrading people from within since they understand the company to the core.
“
FROM A WOMAN TO ALL WOMEN “Put your trust in yourself! Do what you love and value your time. Understanding that difficult times will occur is important. When you know your customer, learn about them, and adapt to them, you will be patient and able to tackle challenges headon.” - Bhavini Khakhkhar 27

HIRE THE RIGHT
Lifestyle
PERSON
We are running a business to make the world a better place. However, you cannot full fill this goal without having the right person. In the past, you may have started a company with a few people. But as your business starts to grow, you need more loyal people who can work with you and take your business on top. Recruiting the right person for a company is very important it doesn’t matter what kind of work you are in. However, it is a very daunting task to hire. It is not all about positioning employees as soon as possible. In general, people get hired by reviewing the resume. In this resume, candidates show their skills and experience. So, would you like to hire them? Of course, Not, you need those candidates who are passionate about the position, who like to take the challenge every time. if you are hiring a manager. you need the best strategy in place to help weed out those candidates who are just showing experience. Determine the best candidate who can lead the company in the future to success.
A majority of people think that spending a lot of time with a person, you will know about him. At some point, it could be true but how about other candidates who have been waiting outside to know the call since morning. In order to hire people, you should keep in mind some of the principal such as Be creative: As you know that every person prepares for commonplace and has some unique way to solve problems. So, figure out the new way to understand how your candidate thinks. Be challenging: a good interviewer always catches the small point and try to find out by asking the question. So, put the person in some difficult situation by asking the question. Then see how they like to show their true selves.

Allow your best employees to help: As you know that you are not only who is about work with the candidate. They know very well what kind of issues they have been facing for a long time. let them ask some questions to the candidates. by doing this, you will find the best person.
As a company owner, we always looking for a person who has the ability to create something new and face a big challenge. That’s why we look a smart person. We give a lot of time and effort to hire a good person. If we are placing the wrong person in the position it could be a major inconvenience. However, a well-experienced interviewer never makes a mistake like this. Because they know who is best for the position. However, if we are going to run a new company, you don’t have to hurry to hire people where Initial Recruiting is often very important in setting tones for the business culture going ahead. I reached so many websites where some expert has given an opinion about that. here are five-point that will help you to pick the right person.
There are different kinds of candidate come for the interview such as some come by reference and some come by just applying. However, it could be tempting to jump over the process of thoroughly giving value to reference; it is time spending work. However, avoiding the vetting process may generate issues in the future. According to Nicole Munoz from Bplans. We have to go in history to know the candidate’s behaviour. Past employment history tell you how the work and who they really are as employees Make sure candidate like to spend time with the team Asking the standard question isn’t always the best way to uncover. If you really want to hire the right person, you have to do a little bit more to determine to conform that those candidates will fit in the company’s culture and with the team. If it possibly creates five or six members of the team where you make them involved in it. After that, you are going to give a verity of situations. in this way, you don’t have the only opportunity to know how your candidates interact with your team but also allows stakeholders the chance to give a response to the candidates.
A good candidate wants to know about your company so he will ask you questions throughout the interview. And, you cannot ignore that. because it indicates preparedness and engagement. Don’t worry - always a good sign. According to Brain David from Bplan, interviewer and potential candidates should be asking each other questions to determine alignment. It shouldn’t be one side question, when you interacting with the candidate, it feels like having a conversation. It makes you know that how much your candidate feel confidence.
I like the idea so much before hiring, I could see how my potential candidate actually work. You should do by building a little hand on work into the interview process. It is a very unique idea. I know most people believe it isn’t a good way to hire people. but believe me, once you own this idea, your candidate will also respect you because they will know what kind of problems do you give them. By following this process, you will get a clearer sense. According to Bplan, this technique has been used by Jacob chapman of Gelt Venture capital. Chapman advises that you should be testing new hires by giving small problems. In this way, you will know how effortlessly they can solve the issues. As I have seen a lot of recruiters, they start to ask a standard question like where do you see yourself after 5 years or how you are going to handle the pressure and many others like that. if you are asking such kind of question, you always get a positive answer because nobody wants to ruin the image in front of you. I would say be practical, I’m sure, you are going to find the right person for the company. 31

tirring innovative ideas, developing new perspectives, and creating a resilient attitude are simply some of the aspects that effective coaching and training can create in the support of leaders within any organization. Workforce productivity is effortlessly boosted when developmental professionals train and mentor the workforce for their respective progression. As the field of coaching is proliferating in leaps and bounds, many entities, as well as individuals, are comprehending the significance of talent management that requires consistent mentoring, training and coaching. The current need that is so valuable is to know the skills of interaction, management and communication rather than just being competent in one’s respective field. she immigrated to the United States and grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. She successfully completed her Bachelor of Science dual degrees in Mathematics and Secondary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. Later, she commenced her career in the education space as a high school teacher in mathematics. She got married and moved to Northern New Jersey with her spouse, where she continued with her teaching career for several years. Her dedication to the job was such that it was important for her to motivate and guide her students and help them set better goals while pursuing measurable steps of success. She was grateful to find out years later of the true impact that her approach had on many of the students that she had taught.

Organisations became more assertive in pivoting to the remote teams in a much-sophisticated manner. “Companies are dealing with global teams, 5 generations within one organization, diversity and inclusion concerns, and the list goes on. This is when you want to work with a leadership coach to support you in the ever-changing leadership landscape,” affirmed Sheeba.
INSIGHTS INTO WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP
For women, a myriad of challenges creates hurdles to their surging success. As Sheeba has a diverse experience of coaching countless working women, she acknowledges the issues faced by them on a daily basis. She states that it is not easy for women as they have to create a sheer balance between their personal and professional lives- be it family, children, making leaps in their leadership aspirations or being taken seriously on the decision-making table. Working women are constantly trying to prove their worth and aspire to get equity in their pay. However, she believes that today females have more growth opportunities than ever before, which should be utilized affirmatively. Acknowledging the scenario, she persistently encourages women leaders to lean in and ask for what would support you to grow in your leadership.

“I avidly support women enthusiasts in their entrepreneurial goals. It gives me great joy to see both men and women thrive in their respective businesses. Without any doubt, it is not easy to pursue entrepreneurship. But persistence, focus, and insightful mentors can turn the tides in your favour for sure. Empowerment
Why india needs a new brigade of WOMEN EMPOWERMENT COMPANIES?
A
nation grows by the collective efforts of both men and women. You can’t think of a developed economy without allowing half of its population to participate in the development process. A country’s growth is just like a relay race. You run to the best of your ability and pass the object to your partner, but if the partner doesn’t contribute, you lose. There’s a very similar situation India has been facing all these years. The mindset over the last 70 years has been that a male member of society should work and the female should look after the household chores. The society has been very rigidly killing the dreams of the girl child through its senseless explanations. However, when I call the society as senseless, it has very much to do with the kind of education they have been imparted. A society is the result of its education. This is so interlinked. The country was looted by the Britishers. When they left the nation, India was an extremely poor nation with a rift between religions, lack of resources, poor infrastructure, and complete uneducated society. Eventually, as things began improving, one thing which grew at a slower pace than others was ‘mindset’. This mindset still believed that boys are the assets for the family and girls as a liability. Thus, the education of girls was considered as the least priority stuff. A human without education will be so much underconfident to make decisions about life. Girls grew up seeing their brothers getting new books to read, a new pair of shoes for school, a new bag and all these fascinating things which she should have been an equal owner, were taken away from her. When she looked at things creatively and asked out of curiosity, the people around made her feel a fool and thus she stopped looking at things creatively and her curiosity died within. As she reached her teens, the family began looking for a groom and eventually got her married and the world around her changed immensely. Despite all these changes, most women never run away from their responsibilities. In most Indian houses we see a brigade of women who very honestly fulfill their duties towards their home. And this is where the potential lies. If we can channelize their management skills in a way that more women gather the self-confidence to share their thoughts, to express their needs, the entire nation grows. Not sure how? Read this example. 7 Gujrati women with Rs 80, started a venture called ‘Lijjat Papad’. Today the company employs 43000 women and has a worth of Rs 800 crore. This is what happens when everyone gets a chance to contribute. India still lags behind when it comes to talking about sex education, women’s health, and female hygiene. These are still considered as a stigma, a taboo. Our conservative society needs a brigade of women who can step up and talk more about these. A start-up in the field of women’s well being is a need of an hour. At an individual level, we should begin to promote the growth of women through social media platforms. At a societal level, we need to be courageous enough to challenge the fixed mindsets.

Women’s empowerment can bring in a muchneeded change in the perception of society. We need more of Neerja Bhanot a flight attendant who chose her passengers’ life instead of hers in a plane hijack. Mary Kom, who faced all the hardships from society and yet became a champion at boxing. Kalpana Chawla, who just defied all the stereotypes and went into the space making India a proud nation. There’s a lot to it. The message though is, there’s hidden talent in every Indian household. We must be proud of it and create more opportunities. As a father, brother, husband and in whatever role we can, we must at present and in the future always support the women in our house to be contributing factors to the nation. There’s a lot we can do as a nation when people unite and work together. This is the time when we should all be tired of the stigma and difficulties faced by women around the nation and let them step out and learn a new skill, choose a career, innovate, experiment, try, fail, manufacture, sell, invent and do a lot more of these regularly. Such approaches will make companies grow stronger. A new brigade of women empowered companies will make for a more empowered nation.

Revamping the Architectural and Interior Designing arena with a robust mindset Gulshan Parveen | Innovative Zone
“A woman who works in purpose doesn’t have to chase people or opportunities. Her light causes people and opportunities to pursue her.” Here again, the team of Innovative Zone welcomes our global readership with the tale of a rousing and ambitious entrepreneur - Astha Khare. The editorial panel of our team had an interacting session with the leading figure, and she shared some unknown facts of her entrepreneurial journey with us that made us feature her inspiring tale in our exclusive edition. We truly hope and desire that this specific read will act as value addition in the lives of our readers and will influence the budding female entrepreneurs as well. Astha - an enthusiast and the super-influencing person is the Co-Founder of The Design Charrette, which is a well established venture revamping the arena of architecture and interior designing. While having a conversation with our team, Astha shared that she had been aspiring for making her career in the field of architecture since high school. Although her parents and other members of the family wanted her to be an engineer and a wide range of people also suggested her to not aim for architecture - as it is considered a ‘strugglemore & earn less’ profession. But, her passion for designing, creating, and transforming gave support to her dream and guided her on the pathway of success. With her determination and robust willpower, she convinced her family and stepped forward to complete her graduation from MANIT, Bhopal in the year 2014. She revealed that she had a keen interest in heritage, and hence, she decided to pursue her master’s in Architectural Conservation from the School of Planning and Architecture in Bhopal itself.
She further added, “After my graduation, I joined the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya in Mumbai for a year in 2017. After gaining a significant amount of experience in the realm, I decided to incept my venture by collaborating with three of my friends in Indore city.” In the year 2018, Astha got shifted to Mumbai after her marriage and in the same year, she joined Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Architecture to fulfill the responsibilities of an Assistant Professor and was pursuing her practice simultaneously. In a time-lapse of two years, she realized that she is more passionate and zealous towards practicing Architecture fulltime so, she resigned from the post. Since 2020, when the COVID-19 hit the world, she dedicatedly continued practicing her designing skills throughout the world. To explain her not-so-ordinary journey, she further asserted, “Starting a firm with all-female Co-founders was not an easy task for us. It took us some time to first convince our own families. A Farmhouse Project being executed by TDC clientele base by working with various giant players of the business arena such as Mindruby Technologies, Bridgestone India Pvt. Ltd., Imagery Pictures Pvt. Ltd. etc. Throwing some lights on the vast service panel of the firm, Astha stated, “Apart from residential and workplace designing, we have also designed wedding resorts, clinics, industrial settings, farmhouses, and many more. At present, we are relentlessly working on various challenging projects such as designing a set of an old palace for well-known names of the film industry. We are well aware of the fact that each project comes with its hurdles and obstacles. Therefore, each project has been a milestone for us in itself and has acted as a stepping-stone for us. Moreover, we keep learning new technologies and do a lot of market research and survey with each project. This helps us a lot to evolve with the changing trends, and also gives us creative freedom while designing. We have a perception that social media is a very strong platform where you can always know what’s in trend. Being socially active is an essential way to grow.”
their heads around the idea of starting a business from scratch. Our determination and perseverance got them on board. But the struggle did not end there. During the initial days of the business, there was a lot of apprehension in clients about entrusting largescale projects to a young female team. They were assuming that we would somehow lack the desired experience and effort. Even the contractors used to be gender-biased. With our persistence, skills, and the right knowledge, we have been able to convince everyone to have faith in us and our abilities.”

PERCEPTION ON WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Our editorial panel asked Astha to throw some light on her perception of female entrepreneurship, and she replied, “I personally believe that working women have more responsibilities. Creating a work-life balance gets very tedious. Especially the pandemic made it even more difficult for a lot of women around the world. But, families nowadays, are trying to be more supportive. Partners have started sharing responsibilities and colleagues have started appreciating and respecting women more. But, of course, this transformation will take a few more years to spread its roots across the country.”
Astha explained, “In the construction industry, we often see that there is a contrast between the design and the final product. Our idea was to bridge this gap with an experienced team with profound knowledge of the design process, site execution works, and intricate design details that are required for a satisfactory final product. So, we found our firm on 3rd June 2017, but the idea had been there much before that. The four of us (Founders) are from Bhopal and Indore so initially, we started in and around these cities only. Over time, we have developed a wider variety of clientele and are expanding to more cities across India as well, including Mumbai, Jodhpur, Lucknow, Rewa, Bangalore to name a few.”
Astha has a robust perception that women are undoubtedly more hardworking and sincere. She truly believes that when a woman entirely focuses on her strengths and instincts, she creates amazing and unbelievable things. History itself has proven that women are great entrepreneurs and indeed will remain to be. Before signing off, Astha shared some exemplary words of wisdom with all the upcoming entrepreneurs by saying, “Respect the past, analyze the present, consider the future, and design wisely! Because your creations direct people’s lives. And remember to believe in yourself, equip yourself with the right knowledge & skills, and build creative wonders.”
THE CLIENTELE BASE
The firm is dedicatedly working for a variety of clients since its inception. It completed its breakthrough project of designing a workplace of 12,000 sq. in a record time of 70 days. They bagged this project and completed that before they even completed their first year of inception as TDC. The team has structured a prestigious 41

TRANSFORMATION IN START-UPS OVER THE YEARS
In the last decade, India has come up with a large number of start-ups and this number is increasing rapidly. Few of them are taking the nation to great innovations as well as productive outcomes. Some of these start-ups are having a huge strength and support encouraging youths to bring new ideas with the leading role. Tudip has had a great workforce of great innovators leading the company since its inception. The company has held up the market since 2010, with a large number of women in the prime characters with its CEO as well and its establishment. It is earning a lot of success and appreciation from clients like Google and earning laurels for itself and the founders on the large global platforms.
“As an entrepreneur, I always find myself motivated, especially for my work. I also keep motivating the people working with me in the company. This is achieved by many small but important steps such as celebrating small achievements. Tudip also encourages the team members to accomplish more, by finding out and letting employees do what they are passionate about”, she further added.
THE ROLLER-COASTER RIDE
Dipti’s life has always been challenging, risky as well as adventurous, starting from her college days. It all began when she decided to take a chemical engineering course, then she left her high-paying job to become the CEO of a company. Her journey proves the quote that no matter the struggle or the challenge in your path, the hurdles and the situations that pull you down, give the sense of strong willpower to keep going ahead to make you achieve.
KEEPING THE TEAM MOTIVATED & PRODUCTIVE
At Tudip, they provide lots of opportunities to each one of the employees where they can prove themselves with many roles in which they feel valued. Tudip always gives them opportunities to grow, learn more, and gain knowledge which can eventually build up confidence and hence make them happy.
THE CHANGING MARKET TRENDS & SIGNIFICANCE OF R&D In a developing country like India, the change in the market trends is very common and coping with this change and making progress at the same speed it is very important to analyze the data across the markets systematically to predict the market evolution and behavior.
By promoting a positive work environment with prioritizing work-life balance and strong communication in some areas one can achieve that whereas, regular feedback from the employees keeps the team updated about their happiness and content.
By making a creative and flexible environment, which thinks one step ahead helps them adapt to these changes every time in the market. Keeping the client on the top of the mind to create more meaningful products as the market changes, Dipti believes we should be dealing with the clients by an adjustable project management style to bring the changes immediately.
FUTURE ROADMAP
Dipti and her whole team will continue making efforts to be a Global Partner and the first choice for their customers by providing leadership in specific domains to help them accelerate the value creation process.
R&D is one of the keys and essential parts of an organization where researching a solution and finding the best solutions, and serving it to the client is where the company growth depends.
FEMALE ENTREPRENEURSHIP TODAY & IN ANCIENT TIME In an ancient country like India, which always had gender inequality, women have been always taken for granted and cast inferior in all terms, but as the company has 15 top management women including its CEO there is always a competitive environment in the company. This provides a homogeneity among the people working by providing all the benefits and working with individuality.

Progress
THE POWER OF MENTORSHIP ON YOUR ROAD TO PROGRESS Leaders and Mentors shape our nation, communities, and organizations. We are always in need of a good leader to help and guide us, to make the essential large-scale decisions that keep the world moving. Our society always quick to identify a bad leader, but we are here to know how to identify a good one? What would most people say makes a good Leader/Mentor? According to the research, it is found that the Characteristics of a Good Leader are Great mentors, who consistently possess these 10 core leadership traits: • Positive attitude • Creativity • Ability to inspire • Intuition • Honesty • Ability to delegate • Communication • Sense of humor • Confidence • Commitment
While many powerful and successful mentors haven’t exhibited all of these character traits, and the definition of a good leader can be quite ambiguous nowadays. Mentorship comes in many flavors in the present life. It never works unless or until a mentor bear in their mind a few common principles such as:-
Experience ensures a pool of wisdom
Ideally, a mentor must be a person who has been in the channel and has the worldly experience to guide you and set you in the right direction. Technically, a Successful or Doyen Entrepreneur is an ideal mentor, as they will always help you to get comfortable with the industry ropes and hurdles. With the many battles fought, within the industry and the necessary attitude to screw around obstacles, their infinite wisdom is totally gained from years of vast experience, which makes them eminently suitable for the role of a Mentor in the society. So whether it be scaling, merging, or operational guidance, you need to have a battle-ready veteran who has mastered the art of corporate diplomacy and warfare.
Pillar of positivity and support - Communication
It is easy for mentorship conversations to quickly devolve into rant sessions. Good mentors are the people that able to inculcate a positive thought process to help their mentees make the most of every situation – even the difficult ones that nobody has any control over. More importantly, mentors bespeak this positive thought process themselves and become the role models their mentees with their needs.

A large part of positive communication involves active listening. Therefore, leaders should establish a steady and flow of communication between themselves and their staff or team members. They can even make it happen through an open-door policy or regular conversations with workers. Other skills related to communication include: • Active listening • Articulating • Business storytelling • Clarity • Explaining • Expression • Facilitating group conversations • Nonverbal communication • Presentation • Public speaking • Reading body language • Reducing ambiguity • Verbal communication • Written communication
Reflective Empathy
Empathy is one of the key principle and important qualities in a mentor because finding someone who’s respectful is key, but so is finding someone who will give you some tough love when you need it for motivation. A good mentor knows how to deliver perfect feedback in a way that’s constructive, kind, and direct, and doesn’t shy away from being honest because they’re afraid of hurting your feelings. What does this look like? Your mentor should be asking questions more often than simply telling you because harshness is sometimes necessary but in a positive outlook. That curiosity is important for any mentee because “you want someone who can relate to you from your perspectives for better understanding. Oftentimes people try to impose their own beliefs or ways of approaching things on others, and this can be a good mentor’s downfall because imposing personal beliefs lead to the ruling. So be empathic and represent your point of view normally, not like imposing.
Benefits to the Mentor
Becoming a master or mentor to your team can enrich your life on a personal and professional level by helping you do the following: •
Build your leadership skills – Mentorship helps you to develop your ability to motivate and encourage others. This can also help you to become a better manager, employee, and team leader.
•
Improve your communication skills – Every mentee may come from a different background or environment, the two of you sometimes may not “speak the same language.” This may force you to an effort in finding a way to communicate more effectively and efficiently by navigating your way through the mentoring relationship.
•
Learn new perspectives – By working in the less experienced and from a different background, you can gain a fresh perspective on new things and learn a new way of thinking by your different mentees – those different ideas and perspectives can help in your work life as well as your personal life.
•
Advance your career – Refining your mentorship skills can strengthen your on-the-job performance and experience, perhaps it will help you to get that promotion to higher management – or into management in the first place.
•
Personal satisfaction – It will always be very personally fulfilling to get to know that you’ve directly contributed to someone’s growth and development which makes you personally satisfied. Seeing your mentee succeed as a result of your motivation input is a reward in itself.

Soon she started introspecting herself on what she was learning and what she was returning. In no time, she realized that she had become very comfortable in her current role. Also, she found that her learning had become limited and stagnant, and that was when she decided to make a career shift. Initially, she was unsure regarding the future while submitting her resignation as numerous ideas and thoughts were running in her mind. But, she had a clear plan to leave a salaried-time bound and content restricted corporate employment. In no time, she started the next phase of her career in September 2014 as a strategic marketing consultant by founding the strategic consulting firm Fourth Dimension Experience Inc.
During that time, she also experienced personal pain watching her children struggle with engaging in outdoor activities surrounded by the deadly haze of pollution in Gurgaon and Delhi NCR. While the worsening climatic conditions were threatening the health of her children, there were limited options available for children to sweat it out indoors. Unlike adults, children could not attend gyms, yoga, and other fitness classes but, there was a need to find something to assure their health and well-being. Hence, Ms. Vitika joined her friend and partner to incorporate Future Fit LLP, an indoor weather-controlled fitness center offering diverse fitness routines through Gymnastics for school-going children in the age group of 4 to 14 years. 48

FASHION STYLE
Ms. Vitika completely agrees with Coco Chanel’s statement, “Fashion fades but, style never goes out of fashion.” She has a classic style and is very particular about her outfit and physical appearance as she likes to be appropriately dressed for every occasion. On an official engagement such as a seminar and a Zoom meeting, she makes it a point to be dressed formally. However, when it is family time and during social interactions, she prefers comfortable and casual outfits only. A large section of her formal wear, be it Indian ethnic suits or business suits, are custom-tailored. For Sarees, she likes to shop at Fabindia, Nalli, and Byloom.
Ms. Vitika has a special message to all women entrepreneurs out there, “Believe you can reach anywhere you want to go but, never underestimate the effort required to get there.” She has a strong belief in working hard with complete passion. “Remember, hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard,” she adds.
4DXP: A ONE-STOP SOLUTION FOR MARKETING STRATEGIES
Most of the consulting firms have large teams where work gets delegated to the junior members, which impacts the quality of output to a certain extent. But, at 4DXP, Ms. Vitika brings 20+ years of professional experience to undertake each assignment herself by taking responsibility for the quality of output.
EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP
Dolly Parton quotes, “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, then you are an excellent leader.” The team of Ms. Vitika finds her collaborative, communicative, and inspirational personality who keeps encouraging them to achieve desired results. She believes that good ideas can come from anywhere, and hence, she encourages open dialogue. She promotes discussions and debates and makes everyone understand that a healthy debate on a business issue is the only way to find creative and out-of-the-box solutions. She efficiently fulfills the responsibility of inspiring employees, which results in making them constantly strive to achieve even more and climb the ladder of success throughout the organization. She also keeps them inspired by challenging them and empowering them to help them overcome those challenges.
FUTURE ENDEAVOURS
Ms. Vitika has a perception that in the coming years, organizations will be looking for personalization of their propositions to the target audience, where the ‘one size fits all’ approach will not work anymore. Hence, a specialist and personalized approach to brand development will become critical for market success. Therefore, she is tremendously optimistic about the future of 4DXP, which is positioned perfectly to address the needs of both small start-ups as well as well-established brands.
She quotes, “Innovation is where imagination meets ambition.” she adds further that innovation on its own has no meaning if it does not help the business grow and not make an organization more profitable in the long run.
Under the aegis of 4DXP, she leads the National Marketing Council, where she contributes her time and resources pro bono to give back to the marketing fraternity to promote good marketing practices as well as promoting diversity at the workplace for women.
OUTLOOK ON FEMALE ENTREPRENEURSHIP
2021 has brought numerous opportunities in terms of democratizing the workspace in the context of mobility and time. It has also put immense pressure on women as the primary person of taking care of the family. With work from home and online schooling implemented across the globe, women have had to service the demands of the family 24x7. But, the emerging technologies have given wings to many women to participate in the formal corporate space as individual contributors. Also, it has provided an excellent platform for women to give air to their talents and entrepreneurial abilities by helping them reach clients using online modes.
