Hello, Once again we have scratched our heads to come up with some more exciting inclusions for your reading pleasure and information. This month the Editor decided that there are just too many problems with Creatives not being aware of their rights and being completely in the dark about IP (Intellectual Property), so she has approached a friend who is a business advisor and has asked her to right some clear concise advice to help creatives out by understanding the difference between Copyright and Trademarks. We do have an expert on the subject at the magazine, but thought this would be more fun for you. We have also decided to bring you some Japan Designers who took part at Japan Fashion Week and we actually loved what they had to show. All in all we do try the utmost to keep this interesting and relevant to you and to the purpose of the magazine‌.! Please enjoy!

Bonjour, Une fois encore, nous avons grattés nos têtes pour trouver des inclusions plus excitantes pour votre plaisir et information. Ce mois-ci l'éditeur a décidé qu'il ya juste trop de problèmes avec les conepteurs qui ne sont pas conscients de leurs droits et sont complètement dans le noir sur la propriété intellectuelle (Intellectual Property), alors elle a prise contact avec une amie qui est un conseiller en affaires et lui a demandée quelques conseils pour aider a clarifier ces points pour etablir la différence entre le droit d'auteur et les brevets. Nous avons un expert sur l e sujet à la revue, mais pense que ce serait plus agréable pour vous d’avoir quelqu’un exterieur. Nous avons également décidé de vous apporter quelques créateurs japonais qui ont pris part à Japan Fashion Week. Hola, Una vez más hemos arañado la cabeza para llegar a algunas inclusiones más emocionante para el placer de la lectura y la información. Este mes el editor decidió que sólo hay demasiados problemas con los mensajes publicitarios no ser consciente de sus derechos y ser completamente en la oscuridad sobre IP (Propiedad Intelectual), por lo que se ha acercado a un amigo que es un asesor de negocios y le ha pedido a la derecha algunos consejos clara y concisa para ayudar a los creativos a cabo mediante la comprensión de la diferencia entre derecho de autor y marcas. Tenemos un experto en el tema en la revista, pero considera que sería más divertido para ti. También hemos decidido para lograr que algunos diseñadores de Japón, que participó en la Japan Fashion Week y que realmente amaba lo que tenía que mostrar. The Ridiculous, the OTT, the Trendy, the Quirky, and frankly the Silly could be seen at a wide variety of shows as reported by Hatlife and many other fashion publications – this accessory is back in and you can see what has been done for the Guys of the lot, they have now been given colour, distinctive style, and presence to be worn by any and all personalities… As you are aware women are the ones who had more fashion options and the Horn of Plenty when it came to accessories and I am glad to see that for once designers have not forgotten that the Boyz needed some inclusions in this…!

FACE/SKIN CLEANSE A New Year – a New You! Finally you have decided to purge yourself of all traces of self-indulgence over the festivities and have decided to prepare your body for summer. Let’s now deal with your main promotional tool – Your face. This will also need some serious detox and cleanse. After doing your usual ablutions and removing all traces of make up at night – you will need to look closely at your skin to see what blemishes you have apart from those annoying spots. The best deep detox and skin conditioning is – Steam! To deep clean this, start with an affirmation that you will steam once a week for the next 3 months. Use a camomile tea bag in your steam to help clarify the skin tone whilst getting this deep skin treatment. Do this for at least a good 10 to 15 mins. Now you need to prepare to look at what neglect you have done to your skin by doing an extraction almost immediately after the steam to remove excess sebum (the white stuff that comes out of spots!). Use an acne stick which you can get cheaply from any health and beauty store. If not use cotton wool on your fingers to gently squeeze spots out. The reason for doing this after steam is because it will not leave black marks or scars on your skin as it has been prepared in advance and softened by the steam. The best toner in the world is actually cold water – if you cant take it then use your usual toner to clean your face after extraction. Then use a pore tightening mask – personally I favour Dead Sea mud as one of the best, wait ‘til it dries up on your face – then rinse off P.S Splashing very cold water on your skin is a good way to tighten pores!

NAILAH’S … BAGZ N BELTS GALORE!!! DID YOU DO A LEATHER/SADDLERY COURSE? No, I have never taken any leather or saddles courses. However, there was a gentleman that took me under his wings and taught me how to use tools for placing hardware on my bags. To this day, I love to put a lot of hardware on my bags. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS? I was inspired by many of my aunts who have their business in fine art and crafts. When I lost my job in corporate America a few years ago, I decided to take my passion to another level. WHEN DID YOU START? I stated designing and creating handbags in 2003.. DO YOU HAVE ECO VALUES – HENCE THE USE OF RECYCLED LEATHER? I sure do! I don’t believe in wasting anything. At inception, and even today, I refurbish recycled leathers garments into handbags. I use a lot of discontinue leathers, as well. Not to mention I use my scraps to create many accessory pieces such as bracelets, necklaces, belts, and earrings.
WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOU AND THE LEATHER BAG FOR YOUR INSPIRATIONS? I am usually inspired by many things that don’t have anything to do with a bag, such as architecture of a new home or building. But lately, I have been inspired by some of my children art projects. 2012 collection will be quite interesting. Keep an eye out. WHAT PROMPTED YOUR RATHER DISTINCTIVE NEED TO REMODEL THE HANDBAG? I wanted to provide men and women a bag that would reflect who they are. I want my bags to have flare but provide the functional necessaries. Many of my bags are considered wearable art, so no matter if you have on the unadorned outfit the bag will dress you up! HOW DO YOU SOURCE YOUR LEATHER AND IS IT AS EASY AS IT SOUNDS? Unfortunately, it is not easy, I am meticulous with what types of leather I used, and so I am also looking for a supplier that has good quality of leather, even if it’s used, discontinued, or new. HOW HAVE THE AUDIENCES RECEIVED YOUR AVANT GUARDE DESIGNS? Extremely well! Nailah’s is worn by all ethnicity, gender, and ages. It’s been a
pleasure to serve them all. APPARENTLY YOU ARE TEACHING YOUR DAUGHTER THE TRADE – IS SHE A NATURAL TALENT? The company is name after my daughter. Her name means, “Destine to Succeed”. She has an extremely natural talent at the age of 9. I gave her my old sewing machine with no instruction on how to use it. I have to say my daughter has designed and created some great handbags using various textiles materials. She also, creates and designs many of my accessory pieces. IS EVERYTHING HANDMADE? Yes, everything is currently handmade. I put a lot of time into production. WHO ARE YOUR CURRENT STOCKISTS IN THE USA? I am actually in process of adding several stores from the east to west coast, but at the present time you can find Nailah’s in the Midwest at Lounge Boutique, in Milwaukee, WI, Snooks in Cincinnati, OH, Shoe Boutique in Columbus, OH, and Madams online. HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED SELLING ACROSS THE POND? I sure have! I have been researching edgy boutiques to prospect my product to. I am taking suggestions, if you know of any. HOW DID YOU FIND ONE OF A KIND AND BECKMANS? I have known about the One of a Kind show for sometime. I decided to do the 2010 show and it was fabulous. I
will be back for the One of a Kind show in Chicago, December 2011. WHAT IS THE NEXT BIG THING FOR YOU AND YOUR LABEL? Wow, there so much going forward to Nailah’s! Non, je n'ai jamais pris de cours de cuir ou d’accessoires. il y avait un monsieur qui m'a pris sous son aile et m'a appris comment utiliser les outils sur mes sacs. À ce jour, j'aime mettre beaucoup de matériel sur mes sacs. CE QUE VOUS L'IDÉE DE DÉMARRER VOTRE PROPRE ENTREPRISE? J'ai été inspiré par beaucoup de mes tantes qui ont leurs activités dans les beaux-arts et l'artisanat. Quand j'ai perdu mon travail dans les entreprises américaines il ya quelques années, j'ai décidé de prendre ma passion à un autre niveau.
QUAND AVEZ VOUS COMMENCÉ? Je l'ai dit la conception et la création de sacs à main en 2003 .. AVEZ-VOUS DES VALEURS ECO - OÙ L'UTILISATION DE CUIR RECYCLÉ? Je le suis certainement! Je ne crois pas à perdre quoi que ce soit. À ses débuts, et aujourd'hui encore, j’ai rénover vêtements cuirs en sacs à main. J'utilise beaucoup de c de cuirs renouvèles, ainsi. J’ai utilisee mes notes pour créer de nombreuses pièces accessoires tels que bracelets, colliers, ceintures, boucles d'oreilles. QUELLE EST L'HISTOIRE DERRIÈRE VOUS ET LE SAC EN CUIR POUR VOS INSPIRATIONS? Je suis généralement inspiré par beaucoup de choses qui n'ont rien à voir avec un sac, comme l'architecture d'une maison neuve ou un bâtiment. Je voulais que les hommes et les femmes achètent un sac qui tiendrait compte de qui ils sont. Je veux que mes sacs sert a tout, mais fournir les choses nécessaires fonctionnelle. Beaucoup de mes sacs sont considérés comme l'art vestimentaire, alors peu importe si vous avez le costume dépouillé le sac vous habille! COMMENT TROUVEZ-VOUS VOTRE SOURCE DE CUIR? Malheureusement, il n'est pas facile, je suis méticuleuse avec quel types de cuir que j'ai utilisé, et je suis aussi en recherche d'un fournisseur qui a la bonne qualité du cuir. COMMENT ONT ETEES RECU CES CREATIONS AVANT GUARDE? Très bien! Nailah est porté par tous ethnies, les sexes et âges. Il a été un plaisir de tous le servir. APPAREMMENT, VOUS ENSEIGNEZ À VOTRE FILLE DU COMMERCE - ESTELLE UN TALENT NATUREL? La société est le nom de ma fille. Son nom signifie, "Destine pour réussir". ¿SABÍA USTED HACER UN CUERO / CURSO GUARNICIONERÍA? No, nunca he tomado cursos de cuero o de sillas de montar. Sin embargo, hubo un señor que me tomó bajo sus alas y me enseñó cómo utilizar las herramientas de la comercialización de hardware en mi equipaje. A día de hoy, me encanta poner un montón de hardware en mi equipaje. ¿QUÉ LE INSPIRÓ A COMENZAR SU PROPIO NEGOCIO? Me inspiré en muchas de mis tías que tienen sus negocios en las bellas artes y la artesanía. Cuando perdí mi trabajo en el mundo empresarial hace unos años, decidí tomar mi pasión a otro nivel. ¿CUÁNDO COMENZÓ? He dicho el diseño y la creación de bolsos en 2003 .. ¿TIENE VALORES ECO - DE AHÍ EL USO DE CUERO RECICLADO? Claro que sí! Yo no creo en nada perder. En principio, y aún hoy, me renovar las prendas de cuero reciclado en bolsas de mano. Yo uso un montón de dejar de cueros, también. Por no hablar de que uso mis pedazos para crear las piezas de accesorios como pulseras, collares, cinturones, y los pendientes. ¿QUÉ ES LA HISTORIA DETRÁS DE USTED Y LA BOLSA DE CUERO PARA TU INSPIRACIÓN? Estoy por lo general inspirado en muchas cosas que no tienen nada que ver con una bolsa, como la arquitectura de una nueva casa o edificio.

How much do you need to earn ? What is your personal survival budget. For example if you need to earn £1000 per month – that’s £250 per week , on a 5 day week that’s £50 per day. So how many items , consultancy hours etc do you need to sell or provide to achieve your target income ? This will allow you to work out your marketing strategy. How many flyers , exhibitions, customers do you need to get the desired number of sales ? You need to determine your pricing strategy which must include allowances for your running costs, your income an allowance for Tax and National Insurance and then some PROFIT. This means that there are a number of key areas to address before you start your business. HERE IS MY CHECKLIST; Have you worked you what your personal survival budget is ? Do you know what your running costs are?
Choose and set up your legal structure – self employed – partnership or limited company. Name and Brand your business – you reputation counts , you get one chance to make a first impression. Check with www.ipo.gov.uk about protecting your business ideas – or wait and check out my next article . Organise your records for Tax and Insurance, VAT, PAYE Manage your business in terms of sales and marketing, financial control, contracts and terms and conditions, Work out your IT requirements. I've been making & selling this particular line of work on a part-time basis for about 5 years. In May 2010, I finally took the plunge to quit the day job and become a full-time ceramist. I took my first pottery class in an afterschool program when I was 13. That pretty much cemented my goals for life! I worked on the craft throughout college and went to grad school to get my MFA in product design with an interest/emphasis in ceramic product design. I’ve always had a great interest in coming up with new patterns and shapes and researching work that has come before. From there, I’ve carefully honed my skills and began to work exclusively in translucent porcelain until I built a body of work I that has enough variation to keep me excited and what I hope is enough appeal to a wide audience Everything I sell is made by hand- I throw each piece myself on the potters wheel and each line of the patterns I draw myself, freehand, directly onto the piece. It is an extremely time consuming process, but also meditative. My designs are heavily inspired by my travels and by textile patterns. This includes Ancient-18c Islamic ceramics, Japanese textiles, Mughal miniatures, Narrative 14c Italian maiolica, Ancient maps, Indian henna and Royal Thai textiles. I enjoy working on marketing/PR myself as well as the creative process. It gives me a variety of projects to work on as well as control. I feel that I am still breaking into the market, so I can’t say how easy it has been! So far for 2011, I plan on attending the One of a Kind Chicago show again in December and also try the International Gift show in New York in August. One of Kind was great for business and for media exposure in the Chicago area. I’m really looking forward to going again!

J'ai été prise de travailler sur une base à temps partiel pour environ 5 ans. En mai 2010, j'ai enfin quittee le travail du jour et devenir un céramiste à plein temps. J'ai pris mon cours de poterie première fois dans un programme après l'école quand j'avais 13 ans. C'est à peu près cimenter mes objectifs pour la vie! J'ai travaillé sur le bateau pendant que j’etait au collège et fesait des études supérieures pour obtenir ma maîtrise en conception de produits ayant un intérêt / l'accent dans la conception des produits en céramiques. J'ai toujours eu un grand intérêt à venir avec de nouveaux modèles et de formes. De là, j'ai soigneusement aiguisé mes compétences et a commencé à travailler exclusivement en porcelaine translucide jusqu'à ce que ‘ai construit un corps de travail I, qui a assez de variations pour me garder heureuse et ce que j'espère avait assez d’appel au public. Tout ce que je vent est fait à la main, je jette chaque pièce moi-même sur la roue de potier, à main levée, directement sur la pièce. C'est un proces extrêmement long, mais aussi méditatif. Mes créations sont fortement inspirées par mes voyages et par des motifs textiles. He estado haciendo y vendiendo esta línea de trabajo sobre una base a tiempo parcial durante unos 5 años. Yo trabajé en la embarcación durante la universidad y se fue a la escuela de posgrado para obtener mi maestría en diseño de producto con un interés o énfasis en el diseño de productos de cerámica. Siempre he tenido un gran interés en dar con nuevos patrones y formas y trabajo de investigación que ha llegado antes. A partir de ahí, he afinado cuidadosamente mis habilidades y comenzó a trabajar exclusivamente en porcelana translúcida hasta que construyó un cuerpo de trabajo que tiene que la variación suficiente para que me entusiasma y lo que espero es suficiente apelar a un público más amplio Todo lo que vendo es hecho a mano, me lanzo cada pieza en la rueda de alfarero y cada línea de los patrones me dibuja, a mano alzada, directamente sobre la pieza. Rap is just a word.” Remember N.W.A – 1988 – Straight Out Of Compton ..The mixes in that track which blew roofs at parties the world over were influenced by tracks from ICE-T, latino group CYPRESS HILL, good old MC HAMMER and of course the sound of the Master of P Funk.- GEORGE CLINTON. As I write this article to introduce to you this group…IMMORTAL OUTFIT, I discover that I know more about the history of HIPHOP than I thought.
