Meet Leanne Fink
ARTS AND HEALING CONTRIBUTOR
Leanne is a self described lifelong artist. On retiring from chiropractic practice, she returned to living an artful life and oil painting. Having worked in health care for 20 years, she feels compelled to paint imagery that is uplifting and positive, offering her viewer an oasis in which to rest and recharge their mind, heart and body. She is one of the artists of Loudoun County who contributed their work to the new Inova Schar Cancer Institute Loudoun.
“A friend of mine who has cancer shared that she was recently at the
facility being treated and was so moved by the art there. She described her experience as ‘I went away to a different place, just by viewing this work of art while having my treatment.' Having been in advertising and also in healthcare, I know the value of color and how it can change a person's mood, uplift them, or put them in a meditative state, depending on the color, the hue, the value of that color range.”
LoudounMeet Steve Loya
ARTS AND HEALING CONTRIBUTOR AND HUSBAND OF INOVA SCHAR PATIENT
Steve Loya is a local artist, and the husband of Kristen (Kris) Loya, who was also an artist and treated for cancer at Inova before her passing on December 21, 2021. Steve shared about how important it was to him to contribute his art to the healing environment at Inova Schar, and pay tribute to Kris's legacy by also including her art in that healing space.
“When Kris and I were at the hospital, we both were very cognizant of the art that was on display. When she was feeling a little better, we'd walk around the halls and you could tell the artwork was curated with a lot of thought and care. It's really the opposite of the cold, clinical environment that you imagine a hospital might have.”
“My wife Kris said, 'I would love to work with cancer patients and use my art in some way to help them out.’ And I feel like having her work exhibited, and on display in this new facility at Loudoun is fulfilling that vision for her. Even though she passed, her artwork is still doing exactly what she intended."

"I’m just an artist with a passion, and it was incredible to see the right people get involved to make my dream of an Arts and Healing program at Inova a reality.
