WELCOME TO 2022 INOVA HONORS: An Evening with Our Inova Stars

Welcome to 2022 Inova Honors. Whether you are attending in person or virtually, thank you for joining us to celebrate our team while also shining a spotlight on the unprecedented mental health crisis sweeping our Northern Virginia communities, our nation, and our world.

As a licensed clinical social worker, as a parent and as a community member, I continue to view firsthand the impact of the pandemic. Depression, anxiety, addiction and suicide rates have skyrocketed to their highest rates ever. Often called “invisible illnesses” because they can’t always be seen, the effects of mental illnesses on individuals, families and entire communities can be devastating and long lasting.

Tonight, we proudly honor our 750-member Inova Behavioral Health Services team who work tirelessly to deliver best-in-class care for record numbers of our Northern Virginia neighbors facing mental health crises. Through growing public awareness and de-stigmatization, more people are seeking the help they need, when and where they need it most.

As we recognize the team’s accomplishments, we know much work lies ahead. With the help of our generous philanthropy partners like you, our goal is to raise $3 million to strengthen and expand access to our mental health and addiction programs throughout our region. Your support tonight delivers a powerful message of “you matter” to our team, patients, their families and our community.

2022 HONOREE: Inova Behavioral Health Services Team

The statistics are startling: According to the CDC, nearly 1 in 5 Americans will have a diagnosable mental health condition in any given year while 44 out of every 100 adolescents said they felt persistently sad or hopeless.

At Inova, we've seen dramatic increases in self-reports of depression, anxiety and an alarming growth in emergency room visits for mental health. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, our behavioral health call centers have experienced a 25% increase in calls seeking mental health assistance, receiving nearly 60,000 calls in 2021 alone.

2022 Inova Honors is proud to recognize our Behavioral Health Services team members who are on the front lines of this escalating mental health crisis. More than 750 professionals provide behavioral health care and treatment at Inova, delivering a seamless patient experience from inpatient mental health and substance use disorder treatment programs to outpatient, office-based services.

Behavioral health is integral to Inova's mission to deliver world-class healthcare. We offer nationally recognized programs including Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services (CATS), the Inova Kellar Center for children and adolescents, and women's behavioral health services. As we seek to raise awareness and expand access to these vital services, our Behavioral Health team will play an even more essential role.

Linda Lang, MD, Chairperson and President of Inova Behavioral Health Services, will accept the award on behalf of the team. Inova is honored to celebrate the team’s awe-inspiring dedication to providing the highest quality of tailored care, treatment and therapy to the community we are privileged to serve.
