You will always face rejection at times, no matter how big of a model you become. Get used to it, welcome it as a chance to take stock and see where you might improve. If you are brave, even ask nicely for feedback. It isn’t fun not being picked for things, but we can’t be what people want all the time. Be true to yourself, work on your skills, never think you can or should stop improving, and you will have much success. Sweat the details. Be obsessive about getting things right, it will make you a better model. Make sure that necklace or whatever fits, ‘just so’ in all the poses you have chosen. Make sure the mesh doesn’t break when you pose (learn to pan 360 degrees around your body with the camera when you check poses). If you have to change your shape a little bit to make sure mesh doesn’t break, then do so (not your face or anything noticeable). Make sure your hands do not go through your body or your clothing when you transition poses. The devil is in the details as the saying goes, mistakes always stick out, but if your performance and appearance is flawless, it will make you shine as a model, and make what you model shine too. Keep the flying poses for the birds. It is ok to wave your arms about, at the right time and with the right outfit. Watch real life runway models and see how they move and present clothes. Look at how they showcase clothes in different styles. They will present haute couture differently from street wear or avant styles. You can use 23iNOVAREDEC14

stronger more dramatic poses for photos and editorial work, but for runway, generally tame it down a little, unless you are doing a very avant-garde styling possibly. A good rule of thumb is, could I hold this pose in real life for ten seconds without falling over, or looking like an idiot? Also, looking at the audience in a pose is very engaging to the audience and will help your stage presence as a model. If you choose a pose that looks away from the audience, use it consciously, and only to get a particular effect. Build a wardrobe of great accessories, shoes, hair, makeup, jewelry etc, in lots of styles, but all must be well made. You will find these very helpful when you style. Make sure you organize your inventory so you can find them too (we all have different ways, I use key words in my folder titles, and also I keep notecard lists for reference). Keep up to date too with the latest trends and designers inworld. You cannot afford to be an out of date model. Modeling is expensive, there is no way around that. Try and buy when things are on sale or a special offer, or perhaps deals at Events, etc (and on that note, make sure you subscribe to every regular fashion and clothing event that you can, even fantasy and role play ones). Also, a tip – gacha, gacha, gacha (but only the good ones). I find some AMAZING things for stylings in gacha events, especially the big fantasy ones. If you can’t afford to keep hitting the gacha machines for that particular thing you want, try the Gacha yard sales, or even Marketplace, or maybe swap with a friend 24iNOVAREDEC14

as most gacha are transferable. Do your research on stylings, and generally as a model to stay up to date. There are lots of real life fashion collections on Youtube and the internet, make sure you research them. Keep up with the collections for the seasons ahead too, and learn what the fashion trends are in RL. If you are asked to style in a particular fashion genre, search the internet for images and even videos, and look carefully, absorb the details and the overall aesthetics. Soak up real life fashion, become knowledgeable, it will transform you as a model and stylist.

real life, models are hired by designers to be temporary employees. Have fun, enjoy your modeling, but remember you are there to help the designers you model for and not the other way around.

Finally, BE PROFESSIONAL. A model works for designers, not designers for models. Clothes are not there to make the model look good, a model is there to make the clothes she wears look good for the designer who has made them. I am not talking about pageants or the like here, but general modeling jobs. We have all seen or heard, or read in FB, etc, about models with planet sized egos. My best advice to you is don’t grow one. Be pleasant, professional, hard working, reliable, humble, easy to get along with, a good listener who makes notes if needed, friendly, helpful and flexible within reason. Be what you need to be in your real life work, in order to get along with your boss and your colleagues. Remember, in 27iNOVAREDEC14

WHEN passion MEETS ORIGINaLItY: An Exclusive Interview with Gin Rayna of RAPTURE

Writer: Cali Karsin Photographer and model: Magissa Denver 31iNOVAREDEC14

These days, there’s so many designers to choose from that it can be difficult to keep track of them all. So what makes a great designer? You have your four main categories, your great, popular, and high quality designers, and then you have your talented break-out designers that are just coming out and gaining popularity, and then you have your less popular, but diamond-in-the-rough which are fairly new and just coming out onto the fashion scene, and then you have your not so good designers. So what makes a designer fabulous? What brings them from

32iNOVAREDEC14

mediocre to stunning? What sets them apart from all the other thousands of designers on the market? These are the questions we ask ourselves as we sit down and interview Gin Rayna (ginphx) of RAPTURE. Just recently breaking out on the fashion scene earlier this year, RAPTURE has opened its doors in May 2014, and you may have seen them in some big events around the grid like both of the Penumbra Fashion Week events, The Month of Games and the 24 Squared by Siren Productions, and

most recently, Sneak Peak which you can look forward to seeing her exclusives in the December and January round. Rayna reflects back on her challenges in the most recent Penumbra event, “The most difficult challenge thus far for me was Penumbra FF14 because I had my own show, and needed to create a 16 look collection, but I managed and it was a great show and event,” she remarks. Besides the fact that all of her designs are original mesh clothing, she prides herself on her unique

textures, as she feels it is one of the more challenging aspects in the creation process. She explains, “I am constantly switching back and forth between photos and stylistic texturing. There are always the choices to be made as far as what colors to offer in which items. However, I’m thinking with my next collection, it will be all stylistic texturing which I’m already doing half!” You can be sure that whatever Rayna creates will be both fresh and original as well as on trend and up to date. One of her new

35iNOVAREDEC14

projects she is currently looking forward to beginning is offering mesh clothing for mesh bodies like theBelleza Venus body, which she is most in love with, The Mesh Project, and Slink. Rayna enjoys catering to what sells as well as what is unique and feels right for her to create. She pulls inspiration for her designs from all around her in her life. “Architecture, and nature inspire me, even something as small as watching two different colored soaps mixing together,” she informs. She goes on to explain about

36iNOVAREDEC14

her new success in the industry, informing how wonderful her six month anniversary party was. “It was a half day event with huge discounts and different raffles set up all over the region. We had gift cards randomly given out, DJ’s, and it was a really great time.” You can look forward to events being held at RAPTURE most Thursdays, with their most recent event being an Alice in Wonderland theme, with DJ’s, and fun music, as well as a 1,000 L cash prize for the best dressed, and she gives out

37iNOVAREDEC14

tons of prizes, clothing, gift cards, and unique items for that event only. Be sure to keep up to date with their upcoming Christmas party which is kicking off with a hunt to get you in the spirit for the holidays.

After almost two months of different phases with photo and runway challenges, Sylphia Constantine was announced as the Miss Vero Modero 2015 in a fantastic, glamorous, and full of surprises grand finale. FORGOTTENCITY rediscovered Writer: Liat Reina Photographer: Sunny George

Upon first arriving in the vast courtyard of the Forgotten City history museum and dance hall, you might have the sensation that someone is watching you. Yet upon glancing over your shoulder, you shall find that it is simply a benign, if neglected looking, mechanical automaton. In exploring the multi-tiered city it becomes clear that once there must have been an indulged populous inhabiting the increasingly dilapidated metropolis. Now though, only

the opulent remains and those dutiful machines are left behind to tend to the myriad of delights which once amused the civilians long gone. Indeed, as the note card which is delivered to you with your initial landing explains, there are still multitudes of activities ready for visitors. Courtesy of Jenne Dibou and Mandy Marseille, the sprawling city holds an automaton circus with regularly scheduled shows, a 97iNOVAREDEC14

vintage car race track upon which you can test your speed and an alien shooting game. Those are just a few of the highlights of the main tiers, to say nothing of the ~JD~ Mechanical Toy Factory. This store is a place of wonder where you can purchase some of the imaginative and unique creations by the same people who have crafted this clever sim, as well as the location of more games such as a shooting gallery with prizes and saloon poker. Should you be in search of past times more suited to the oncoming winter and holiday season, the Winter Park is sure to fill your desires and then some. With a functioning ski jump, a ski lift, and a holiday house all nestled in the quaint snowy mountain top village, you’re certain to enjoy your visit. Should the chill in the air

100iNOVAREDEC14

grow too much for you though, simply visit the local sausage stand for a bite of the local delicacies. Once you’ve recharged with some food, you can join the automatons for some dancing or bring your friends and challenge them to a jump or two afterward. Even if you’re not a professional jumper, there’s no cause for concern as the medic area is just at the finish line right next to the Winter Park Repair garage. All this has barely scratched the surface of the activities laid out before you though; whether you utilize the 3D maps for transportation or the elevators sprinkled between the levels, there’s so much more to see. A touring balloon or row boat might allow you a chance to discover more or simply to marvel at the beauty of the abandoned citadel. Should you

101iNOVAREDEC14

102iNOVAREDEC14

find yourself falling in love with the friendly and vigilant automatons and the city they guard, you could even make your home in the Forgotten City. With rental opportunities in multiple locations throughout the tiers in many different styles, there’s certain to be a place you could call your own. So don’t delay, now is the time to rediscover the charms and delights of the Forgotten City for yourself… and perhaps uncover more of its secrets. >VISIT<
