WELCOME TO THE 1ST ISSUE Hello, and thank you for opening Inprogress magazine 1st issue. We are Orlando, FL new underground art scene headquarters. The magazine you are now reading is dedicated to the local artists of Florida (Orlando, Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, and all the cities in between). If you are an artist or creative soul and want to reach out to other artists, clients, or get more exposure then come join us because we are behind you like the paint on your canvas, 100% With a varnish seal to finish. We reject no ones art, but will offer words of wisdom when needed. A little more about the magazine. We are starting as an on-line magazine until we generated the right sponsors or have money to print. As many may already have notice the Internet is a new window for artist now being able to showcase art in every home, giving a “SNEAK PEEK” of the best art out in town. In every monthly issue we will feature five upcoming artists which we consider to be (inprogress artists) and two (featured artists) who we consider to have a hand at their skills and craft. But don’t worry inprogress artist do have the opportunity to become a featured artist just like the rest. Yet moving aside from the regular artist who are mainly on canvas. We will also feature a section in the magazine that will showcase digital artists, screen

printers and others who use a digital media such as: digital painting, typography, and as well as flyers. But just remember the magazine is called “INPROGRESS” magazine and with any skill or trade the process is always on going. So we look forward to being a part of your progress. Talented local artists in Orlando painted a illustration based on the Notorious B.I.G album ,Life after death. QUESTIONS WHO IS DRES13?

I’m your friendly neighborhood Illustrator/ Designer getting up where I can.

WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM?

DRES13 started as a name under which I would post my early digital illustration experiments to an online photo blog community. After a while, the work was getting noticed, and through networking with other artists who were also showcasing their work online, the screen name eventually evolved into an identity for me and the work I was producing.

WHAT’S NEW?

Currently I’m working on some stuff for the M Show at Bold Hype going on in March, finishing my piece for the ILLAZILLA tour, a couple of upcoming tee shirt and limited print releases, and a small solo show in Tampa is also in the works. I’m also looking forward to launching my new site sometime this year.

WHAT TYPE OF STYLE IS YOUR WORK?

Right now, I’m doing a lot of traditional pencil/ink illustration mixed with layered cut + pasted images and typography.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO TAKE ART TO GALLERIES AND SHOWCASE?

I was getting a good response to my work online, and getting commissions and invitations to submit illustration work for various projects, but hadn’t really considered showing work in a gallery setting. Eventually, opportunities began to present themselves and I was happy to get involved. Through these opportunities I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some great friends and collaborators who share a similar vision and goals.

INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION?

I draw inspiration from all over. It can vary from the music I listen to, to current

events taking place in my life. Among other things, the idea that I am able to make an honest living doing what I love is definitely motivation to continue to hustle. And now that I have a kid on the way, I feel compelled more than ever to seize opportunities and continue to make things happen.

IF YOU WERE NOT AN ARTISTS/DESIGNER, WHAT YOU BE DOING RIGHT NOW?

Who knows... I can’t imagine not being involved in some type of creative work. I’m definitely a believer in the idea of an individual having a particular calling in life. My parents cultivated creativity in me from an early age, and always encouraged me to pursue what I love to do for a living, so I don’t feel like I’ll be sitting behind a desk in some accounting office anytime soon. Then again, if this doesn’t work out for me, I’ve heard operating a meth lab might be a lucrative option.

WHAT WORD OF ADVICE YOU GIVE UPCOMING ARTISTS?

Hustle. Don’t get lazy. Stay humble. Be gracious. Be willing to help/support the next guy. I think these things are conducive to personal success as well as to cultivating a tight-knit creative community.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PROJECT TO DATE?

There’s been a few, but my most recent experience working on the GinzaTropicalia group show at Art Basel was incredibly rewarding. Through getting involved, I was able to produce and show new work I was really proud of. It was a lot of work for everyone involved, but the end result was really satisfying. I met some great and inspiring people and worked alongside some solid friends to help make the show happen. I’m super grateful to those who presented the opportunity to me, and to all of the people who showed support and had a part in helping me prepare for that show.

WHAT THE MEANING OF YOUR WORK /WHERE DOES THE INSPIRATION COME FROM?

The majority of my work is usually more about an aesthetic rather than concept- at least that’s what I seem to think. Maybe subconsciously, there is some underlying meaning in the images I create, but I’ll have to leave that to the head shrinkers to figure out. Most often, it starts with an idea or imagery that comes to mind and the next step is to let it manifest through some type of illustration.

Tre came from a friend of mine who didn’t agree with my biblical name however based on who i am and what i do the name s more than a number.

Urban abstract, with alot of african and spanish symbolic images.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO TAKE ART AS FULLTIME? .

My daughter, B-side artists, Solillaquists of sound, family & friends are my motivators. My inspration is seeing others who are doing what they love.

Never give up. Be open minded, ask people for their opinon about your work, never limit yourself. Get out everyday and network.

Mostly past relationships,egyption and spiritual influence,today issues. I want to make the usaual person look at my Art work a different way.

TRIPLE THREAT On January 15th 2009 in downtown Orlando at the City Arts Factory, Dustin Orlando hosted three shows in one, hinting as to why the show was called triple threat. The art show featured 30+ artist from all over including our own featured artist Dres13. For the Triple Threat show Dustin Orlando exhibited vast amounts of urban art such as art from stencil artist Matthew Curran who is from North Carolina. As well as many other artist. One of the main highlights of the triple threat show was a collaboration piece that was put together by the stencil artist Peat Wollarger Luchador who had made blanks of wooden Mexican wrestling mask

and had asked artist from around the globe to paint on them and with doing this Peat Wollarger Luchador was able to bring the many styles of urban art from around the world to the orlando area. The triple threat show was a success as Dustin Orlando was able to bring the many faces of urban art together, and you will always want to keep a look out for Dustin’s future shows. SKATEBOARD / STICKER TRADING ART SHOW On February 20th, 2009 Redefine

Boutique and Gallery located in downtown Orlando on 214 N. Magnolia was hosting the skateboard and sticker trading party. Local fans of skateboarding and art were invited to join Christopher â&#x20AC;&#x153;Tobarâ&#x20AC;? Rodriguez to this very unique show. The night began with the blearing beats of funk house music as locals and new faces showed up from all over town to trade stickers and enjoy the freshly painted decks. The 35+ artist in the show were hand selected by Tobar and Redefine shop owner Peter Flores to paint the skateboard decks. As the boards in the show express the many different styles of each artist in Orlando.
