HASSAN RAHMAT

EDITORIAL Cool and chill articles this week! Again, with another editorial, hello all, the campus is getting crowded with people I may say. This week's articles gonna have a random chit-chat from me to everyone during this prewinter. It starting to freeze me lately so dress warmly. Working is fun and it is always nice to have some sort of income during your study, so what job you can find out there, let Georgii guide you into the working life. Anyway, have you decided what to eat this weekend? If not, how about making some pasta Bolognese, the recipe is up for hungry people. Lastly, a Finnish crime drama would be great with pasta altogether, this week Joonatan going to review a movie called Sorjonen: Muraalimurhat, and that it is for this week's articles. Have a nice weekend guys!

WINTER

Pre-Winter Chat Hello guys, cold air has finally come, and the sun decide to go to sleep at 4 p.m., everything seems to be grey all the time, windy all the time, rainy and snowy too. It is a perfect time to stay warm and enjoy your time indoors with your favorite movies, games, hobbies (indoors of course).

Cooking is also a thing but usually, students don’t enjoy it, but since you going to sit home all day, I recommend you try some new recipe, “clean” the fridge, and fill your belly. You could google or watch YouTube videos or even better, our recipes on INSIDER.

What kind of activities do you mostly do? I will probably turn on some music and enjoy the musical space within my room or make hot cocoa and sit on my couch watching Netflix, either one is perfect for a rainy cold day. Also speaking of cocoa, there are good cocoa powder selling in the supermarket, I am telling you this because you read my article, okay? *wink* I bought a 1kg package of cocoa powder just because I like it. You probably think this is a sponsorship article, which is not by the way, but hopefully, I will get a sponsor haha.

Now I have realized how much I talked about eating and drinking, maybe I consume too much these days. Well, it is my student life. It is also flu season dual to the change of temperature so drink your vitamins, check the weather cast also, I remembered how it safe me by alerting me when it was too cold.

And by checking, you could see there will be a little bit of sunlight now and then. When that happens, just put on your jacket and head out for some sunlight, you don’t know how much you will miss it when it has gone, for 3 months!! I went to the park this Monday, got some quality view and tons of vitamin D. I stepped into mud later on but I won’t discuss it, it's just pure pain for my boots. Hopefully, you all will have a fantastic weekend, I going to brew some hot cocoa for myself now.

JOBS

Students Want to Make Money Most of students who came in Finland want to make some extra money, but some people are afraid that they can’t find any jobs because they are too young and have not got enough experience or at all. Partly, it is true, it is quite hard to find well-paid job and interesting job, however, some options exist and I will tell you how you can find them and what you need for it. Options: Between huge number of little temporary jobs, I would like to highlight two main and most popular options. 1. Paper delivery Papers, free distribution and magazines are still exist in paper form and all this advertisement need to be delivered. One of this companies, which deliver distribution called “SSM”, to become their worker you need to go to the website and fill small application form. Job consist of 2 days, usually, on Tuesday you receive your trolley or bike-trolley with all papers which you need to sort by packs and on Wednesday you should deliver everything whenever you want but between 8am and 8pm. Salary – 18-27 euro per day. 2. Cleaning The second option is much more rare, but if you have enough time and luck to find job there, it will be an extremely good option. “ISS” provides workplaces in different cities and focuses on its local workers. This type of work is harder then delivery and might have less convenient work schedule, but because of this it is paid more. Salary is 11 euro per hour.

number you can receive in police station, but don’t forget book time in advance and it takes between 2-6 weeks. After that, you can make Personal ID which you do in the same place, but you need to take photo and pay 65 euro. The last document you need is the Tax Card, to receive it, you just need to make online application on “Vero.fi”. My personal advice is try to find interesting things in all jobs, even if it’s paper delivery, at least it is good exercise which brings money at the same time.

Documents: To get a job you need at first residence permit, which you receive before you go to Finland, ID

TRAVEL

Journey to Estonia you can great view from the top of the tower if you can bear the claustrophobia-inducing staircase. Tondi Laskerit: For anyone looking for a memorable adrenaline rush and a good shooting experience, I would recommend you go to Tondi Lasketir, it was fun shooting with real weapons, and you get to choose different packages and even get to select bigger weapons. St Catherine’s Passage: Its is one of the most beautiful alleyway I have seen, the entrance walls has some huge tombstones along the wall. I also passed by some locally made ceramics which really caught my attention. Toompea Castle: This castle is one of the most beautiful, I have heard a lot about it and how it was converted by the Russians. There is a whole lot of history about it. It was my first time taking a trip on a ship and it was called the Tallink ship. It was such a wonderful experience for me because I have never been to Estonia, but I was uncomfortable because I felt seasick. Estonia is a very beautiful place with beautiful people and culture. During my stay in Estonia, I visited Tallin Old Town which is in the city center and a site for tourist attraction, I noticed it is one of the oldest towns with vast population of people and lots of historical background with museums and galleries, including old fashioned bars and restaurants which makes it even more lively. Here are some of the places I found interesting: St. Olaf’s Church: I found out thar the St. Olaf’s church in the town has one of the tallest towers in the world, 6

RECIPE

Pasta Bolognese During the weekend I was totally craving for a pasta, but I wasn’t sure which one carbonara or Bolognese but unfortunately, I hadn’t all the ingredients for carbonara, so I choose Bolognese and it was madly delicious. For the Pasta Bolognese we need: • 2 medium onions, finely chopped • 4 carrots, trimmed and finely chopped • 2 celery sticks, finely chopped • 2 garlic cloves finely chopped • 400g of minced meat • Tomato sauce • Curcuma • Ginger • Salt • Pepper • Paprika • Parmesan • 4 Tbsp olive oil • 1 tbsp of butter • Pasta For the bechamel we need: • 2 tbsp of butter • 2 tbsp of flour • 100ml of milk • Pepper • Salt • Garlic powder • Sour cream Method: 1. Put a pan on a medium heat and add 4 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp of butter. 2. Then add the 2 onions, 4 carrots, 2 celery sticks, 2 garlic cloves all finely chopped, then fry for 10 mins. Stir the veg often until it softens. 3. Increase the heat to medium-high, add 400g minced beef and cook stirring for 10 mins until the meat is browned all over. 4. After that the minced beef is ready add the tomato sauce the spices and increase the heat while you stir with a wooden spoon 5. While you’re cooking the sauce in a large pot of boiling salted water add 2 tbsp of olive oil, cook the pasta until al dente. 6. To prepare the bechamel sauce mix the flour, butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder and sour cream together with whip and then add the milk slowly until that the sauce become more sticky 7. Put the bechamel sauce first then add pasta then the sauce and put parmesan on the top and hop to the oven 8. Serve it with a cup of Cola and enjoy your time Buon appetito! Sorjonen: Muraalimurhat Sorjonen: Muraalimurhat is a movie sequel to the extremely popular Finnish crime drama and Nordic noir television series of the same name. It’s directed by Juuso Syrjä and stars Ville Virtanen as Kari Sorjonen. I need to preface this by saying that if you haven’t watched the series a lot of characters and plot points are not going to mean a lot to you and it will generally be confusing. The story is fairly straightforward for any crime drama. There was a poll for “Which person would Finland be better without?” and for some reason 3 of the top 5 people have gone missing. The KRP (The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation) needs to find the so called “Judge” and need the help of Sorjonen since it seems to be somewhat linked to his older cases. Problem is that Sorjonen is in a mental institute and is not in any shape or form ready to tackle this kind of investigation. I’m not one to watch many Finnish movies or series in general but from what I saw from the movie and what I’ve heard about the series from others that it’s a very suspenseful and interesting movie and I can agree with that (or I might just be biased since the show is filmed in my hometown of Lappeenranta). There are a few plot points that I felt were maybe brushed past a bit too quickly and some character motivations were weird to me. Casting and directing are amazing. The scenes don’t take too long which some crime dramas have a problem with because they need the viewer to be 100% sure what they’re seeing. Virtanen pulled off a mostly convincing performance of a person with Haphephobia (fear of touch) and added some ticks and jerks to make it look very convincing. While the music and sound are lacking in certain parts, when the movie needs to be suspenseful, it nails it. I was at the edge of my seat when there was action about to happen. All in all, I did enjoy the movie, but I insist that you watch the series if you haven’t before diving in on this one. From what I read online, you can watch the series with English dubbing and subtitles so if you’re interested in some Finnish crime drama then I 100% recommend. Just watch the series before the movie. Trust me. Text by Joonatan Berg
