CHRISTMAS 2019
WELCOME TO TINY TOTS! Children are welcome to move during the program. Feel free to let little ones get up, dance, and participate in the interactive moments. Adults are expected to remain seated throughout the program unless there is an emergency. Some instruments are quite fragile. Please do not touch (or let a child touch) a musician's instrument unless the musician offers for you to do so. Have any questions, comments, or concerns? Find a volunteer or staff member in a Tiny Tots or Inside the Orchestra shirt and we'll be happy to help!

ABOUT US Inside the Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We firmly believe that introducing children to the world of music and the arts at a young age strengthens not only that child, but the community as a whole. In order to be inclusive of all children, we have a completely open door policy, thus providing experiences that are otherwise unavailable to many children, communities, and schools.
OUR MAIN PROGRAMS Our programs get children inside the orchestra by seating them on the floor and surrounding them with professional musicians and performers. Programs include diverse music and feature guest artists from other cultural organizations.
Tiny Tots Designed for children six and under. Tiny Tots seats the audience inside of a 30+ piece orchestra. Programs are held in locations all around the Denver metro area, from Parker to Boulder and in between.
Inside the Orchestra for Schools
A 14-16 piece orchestra outreach program for k-8 schools. The repertoire and approach to learning are designed to support and enhance school curricula. We offer this program in English and Spanish/English bilingual formats.
Inside the Orchestra offers programs for children with Sensory Processing Disorder in partnership with the Autism Society, programs for home school students in kindergarten through 8th grade, and - for the grownups - we have one exciting adults-only event per year, this year on May 8th at Mile Hi Station.

We can't do our programs without donors like you. Every single dollar makes a difference, and we will always tell you exactly how your generosity impacted a child's life.
Your gift is for "many of things." It's for: It’s for access. It’s for music education. It’s for inclusiveness. It's for connection. It’s for a child’s joy. It’s for a lifetime. Thank you card from elementary student, Maxwell
You will make a lasting impact.
“In my 21 years as an educator I have experienced a lot of very strong programs brought into schools and can confidently state that Inside the Orchestra is by far the best experiences I have seen.” Your donations made by Dec. 31st will be doubled by a matching gift. PROGRAM NOTES IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS This song was first written and recorded in 1951. The original Perry Como version is still the most famous and had over 87 million streams as of June 2019. This piece will get you into the festive mood at the start of the concert and will feature our brass section. RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER All of Santa's reindeer, except for Rudolph, first appeared in "’Twas the Night Before Christmas," written in 1823, but Rudolph wasn’t created until 1939. Johnny Marks wrote this famous song based on the story of Rudolph 10 years later in 1949. Singalong with our orchestra during this classic Christmas tune. TOY SYMPHONY No one knows for sure who wrote this piece. Some say it was written by the accomplished composer Joseph Haydn while others think it was Leopold Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus’ less famous brother. Make your own silly musical sounds with us and then listen and look for the toys being played around the orchestra. FROSTY THE SNOWMAN Frosty the Snowman was written in 1950, a year after Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer premiered to great success. The songwriters were trying to create another popular Christmas hit and they definitely succeeded! Sing along with the orchestra during this piece. YOU'RE A MEAN ONE, MR. GRINCH The lyrics for this song were composed by Dr. Suess himself for the original Grinch movie in 1966. Did you know that the original singer of this song is the same person who did the Tony the Tiger voice for the Frosted Flakes commercials? Listen as a singer from Central City Opera joins us for this piece. POLAR EXPRESS The Polar Express soundtrack, from the movie premiered in 2004, is the bestselling holiday movie soundtrack ever written. Help us get the train started by playing your train whistles or giving us your best choo choo sound.
CONT. JINGLE BELL ROCK Jingle Bell Rock was released in 1957 and holds the record for the longest wait to get on the Hot 100 Top 10 song list – it finally made it onto the top 10 in January of 2019. It’s your turn to rock and shimmy like jingle bells now! THE NUTCRACKER The Nutcracker is one of Tchaikovsky’s most famous works and is based on “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” story by E. T. A. Hoffman. Watch as dancers join us during Dance of the Reed Flutes or Sugar Plum Fairy and then it will be your turn to dance like a ballerina during the next. On the 7th, we’ll be joined by Ballet Ariel and on the 14th and 21st we’ll welcome the Colorado Ballet Academy. JINGLE BELLS This piece was written by James Pierpont in the 1850s. It is said he was inspired by horse-drawn sleigh races that were a tradition in the town where he lived. Fun fact: this was the first piece performed in outer space! Have fun singing along with the orchestra. THE CHRISTMAS SONG This song was actually written on a blistering hot summer day. Robert Wells started listing out wintery things to help him get into the mood to write a Christmas song and those became the opening lyrics. Our guest from Central City Opera will join us again for this piece. FELIZ NAVIDAD Feliz Navidad is 8th on the list of all-time best-selling Christmas/holiday digital singles and is one of the top 25 most played and recorded Christmas songs in the whole world according to ASCAP. Pull out your Rudolph jingle bell instruments and follow our conductor as you play along with the orchestra. SLEIGH RIDE The Wheels on the Bus was published in 1939 and is a popular song all around the world. It has been translated into several languages. Sing and make the motions along with our orchestra.
