About Us We firmly believe that introducing children to the arts at a young age strengthens not only that child but the community as well. Since for many, our concerts are their first experience with live orchestra music, we understand the importance of making it a positive and educational experience. In an effort to be inclusive of all children, we underwrite our concerts, thus providing an experience that is otherwise unavailable to many communities.

Our Programs

All of our programs get children literally inside the orchestra as they are seated on the floor and surrounded by our professional musicians. Performances include both classical and pop favorites and feature opera singers from Central City Opera, modern dancers from Hannah Kahn Dance Company or Kim Robards Dance, and a student soloist.

Tiny Tots

Geared towards children ages 6 and under and their families,Tiny Tots seats the audience inside of a 30+ piece orchestra. Concerts are held in locations all around the Denver metro area, from Parker to Boulder and in between.

Inside the Orchestra for Schools A 14+ piece orchestra assembly for k-8 schools. Both the repertoire and approach to learning are designed to support and enhance the school curricula. Schools also receive in-depth follow-up sessions with our conductor.

Partnerships

Inside the Orchestra will be offering multi-generational programs for children with sensory processing disorders and adults with dementia through partnerships with the Autism Society and Alzheimers Association.

SAVE THE DATE ! Inside the Orchestra for Adults

Join us for our favorite party of the year. Fantastic food, drinks, prizes, and a fun, adult-oriented version of our kids programs. You won't want to miss this one-of-a-kind event. All proceeds benefit our mission to make high-quality music education available to ALL Denver's children.

Mr. Aguiló-Arbues not only works with Inside the Orchestra as an associate conductor, but he is also the associate music director for The Renaissance Project Choir, performs regularly with the Central City Opera Ensemble Artists, and has been on Opera Colorado’s music staff since 2008. Wagner (1813-1883) -Ravel (1875-1937) Bizet (1838-1875) Prokofiev (1891-1953) Bach (1685-1750) Williams (1932- ) Berlioz (1803-1869) Grieg (1843-1907) Von Suppé (1819-1895) Rossini (1792-1868) The Sherman Brothers (arr. by Dan Leavitt)

Program Notes Olympic Fanfare - Leo Arnaud (1904-1991) The proper title of the fanfare that we hear every two years is "Bugler's Dream." It has been used as the theme music for the Olympics since the 60s. The version we hear today also has a second theme composed by John Williams for the 1984 games in Los Angeles. Remember the athletes walking in? Kids will walk in place with this music, just like the athletes. March from The Love of Three Oranges - Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) The Love of Three Oranges is an opera written by Prokofiev based on an Italian opera of the same name. It was commissioned by the Chicago Opera Association and premiered in 1921. Kids can march along with the music. Sonata in E Major - Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) Scarlatti spent much of his life as the court composer for the Portuguese and Spanish royal families. He wrote 555 keyboard sonatas during his lifetime. This one was scored for orchestra from centuries after his death. Kids will learn that a choreographer is like a puppeteer and dancers are like marionettes, who she helps move until they take on a life of their own. Ride of the Valkyries - Richard Wagner (1813-1883) Ride of the Valkyries is taken from the prelude to the third act of Wagner's opera Die Walküre. In the opera, it is played before the curtains open to a scene of four valkyries perched atop a high mountain. This piece has been used across modern works, from Bugs Bunny to Apocolypse Now. Bolero- Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) Originally composed as a ballet, Bolero is one of Ravel's best-known compositions. Bolero, traditionally, is a genre of slow-tempo Latin music and dance. This piece, originally 15 minutes long, will be used to demonstrate how much you can accomplish with team work.. Toreador from Carmen - Georges Bizet (1838-1875) The Toreador Song is the popular name of the aria "Votre toast, je peux vous le rendre" from the opera Carmen. In this aria, a bullfighter named Escamillo describes the various feats he has accomplished in the bullring and sings about all the fame and fortune that come with it. This piece will feature a performer from Central City Opera. Cinderella Waltz - Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) The Cinderella Suite that this waltz comes from is based on the music from Prokofiev's ballet Cinderella, written in the early 1940's. This ballet was so popular that Prokofiev arranged three suites for orchestra and three for piano based off of its music. Kids can swing like a swing to this music.

Sleepers Awake - Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) Performed for the first time in 1731, Sleepers Awake is one of Bach's over 200 cantatas. It is based on a hymn written by Phillip Nicolai in 1531. It is one of Bach's most well-known cantatas. Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter - John Williams (1932- ) You may not have known it was called Hedwig's Theme, but you most certainly know this tune! This piece is more commonly recognized as the iconic opening theme from Harry Potter. It has been used in the soundtracks of all of the films, and will also be featured in the upcoming movie. Symphonie Fantastique - Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) Symphonie Fantastique is a piece that is perfect for the spooky season- it is a programmatic piece that tells the story of a man having frightening dreams and hallucinations. The part we will be playing features Dies Irae, an old hymn that is dated as far back as the 600s, based of an accented Latin poem. Solveig's Song from the Peer Gynt Suite - Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) In the original Peer Gynt play, Solveig sings this song to Peer who she loves and who abandoned her. She sings that she will wait for him for as long as it takes for him to return, even if he never does. Peer Gynt is one of Grieg's most popular works, and we have played many different movements from it at Tiny Tots. Imagine your favorite toy or stuffed animal. Conductor Tom will have his up on stage with him. Light Calvary Overture - Franz von Suppé (1819-1895) Light Calvary is an operetta that takes place in a 19th century Austrian town. Though the full operetta is not well known today, the overture is one of von Suppés most famous works, as it is used frequently in cartoons. Kids will imagine horses walking and trotting around. Overture to William Tell - Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) Rossini wrote 39 operas throughout his life, and this is the overture to his first opera, William Tell. An overture is a piece of instrumental music that introduces an opera or a play. Thanks to its use in the Lone Ranger TV series in the 1950s, this overture is often associated with cowboys and the wild west. Kids pretend to ride their horses off into the sunset. I Want to Be Like You - The Sherman Brothers I Want to Be Like You is one of the Jungle Book's, and Disney's, most iconic songs. When writing the piece, the Sherman Brothers said they were aiming for a jazz sound with a Dixieland style melody. Have your kid(s) get up and dance!
