About Inside the Orchestra
Inside the Orchestra is acclaimed as one of the best music education programs for children in metro Denver.
Our in-person school programs bring interactive music experiences right into metro Denver schools. School programs are available in English and bilingual English/Spanish formats and range from trios to large-scale concerts.
Early childhood education and the performing arts meet at our in-person Tiny Tots programs – large-scale, immersive concerts for children seven and under. Tiny Tots are designed to connect very young children with music –physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Virtual programming includes concert experiences, field trips, hosted Zoom sessions, expanded learning materials, musical games, and hands-on resources like flashcards and activity books. Since the start of the pandemic, Inside the Orchestra's website has welcomed more than 1.4 million users.

Tiny Tots Programs

Our signature Tiny Tots programs are immersive, interactive concerts designed for kids 7 and under. Kids get the chance to learn about orchestral music while interacting with 30-40 performers! Attendees are seated on the floor of the performance space and encircled by musicians. A teaching artist/storyteller guides the kids through the performance, encouraging interaction and engagement with the music and experience. Children are encouraged to respond to different elements of the music through imagination-based prompts and activities. They are taught about the instruments, shown a diverse array of performance styles from different cultural backgrounds, introduced to musical concepts, and encouraged to explore artistic expression. Music selection, program design, and scripting are all geared to connect young children with music – physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Additional Activities
Tiny Tots attendees receive a pre-program e-packet, which includes repertoire, activities that will take place at Tiny Tots, and activities they can do at home to engage with each piece.
School groups receive a pre-program packet geared toward activities in the classroom, orchestra flashcards, and lesson plans to use before or after the program.
All Tiny Tots also include instrument "petting zoos" for kids to get hands-on with kid-friendly instruments.
DIY instrument making is also provided, teaching kids and adults about low-cost ways to make music at home.

Tiny Tots: Inside the Story
In 2020, along with students from Lighthouse Writers Workshop, children's author Denise Vega wrote an original children's book "A Surprise for Rabbit." In 2021, artist Kristina Maldonado Badhand, along with students at Art Students League of Denver, illustrated the book. In 2022, award-winning composer Charles Denler worked with Inside the Orchestra to compose an original orchestral score to go along with the book.
• Immersive Concerts: In fall 2022, Inside the Orchestra will be presenting the Tiny Tots: Inside the Story series
featuring the "A Surprise for Rabbit" book. Kids will take part in a large-scale musical story time, featuring 30+ musicians, dancers, a storyteller, and other guests. A storyteller will read the story while it is coming alive visually through dance, puppetry, and theatre – all with the orchestra playing the music composed for the story around them. Programming will be made available in English and bilingual English/Spanish formats. All children who take part in programming will go home with a copy of the book.
• Expanded Learning Sessions: Provided in schools and in public. Children will get to explore the music, art, and story making – learning about how music works with story and story works with music. Expanded learning sessions will include: Musical composition sessions, story times, music and art lesson plans, and story and music sessions.
