About Us We firmly believe that introducing children to the arts at a young age strengthens not only that child but the community as well. Since for many, our concerts are their first experience with live orchestra music, we understand the importance of making it a positive and educational experience. In an effort to be inclusive of all children, we underwrite our concerts, thus providing an experience that is otherwise unavailable to many communities.
Our Main Programs
All of our programs get children literally inside the orchestra as they are seated on the floor and surrounded by our professional musicians. Performances include both classical and pop favorites and feature opera singers from Central City Opera, modern dancers from Hannah Kahn Dance Company or Kim Robards Dance, and a student soloist.
Tiny Tots
Geared towards children ages 6 and under and their families,Tiny Tots seats the audience inside of a 30+ piece orchestra. Concerts are held in locations all around the Denver metro area, from Parker to Boulder and in between.
Inside the Orchestra for Schools
A 14+ piece orchestra assembly for k-8 schools. Both the repertoire and approach to learning are designed to support and enhance the school curricula. Schools also receive in-depth follow-up sessions with our conductor.

Program Notes Canzon Septimi Toni No. 1 - Giovanni Gabrieli (1557-1612) Gabrieli was an Italian composer and organist, and was one of the most influential composers of his time. His music is often written in call and response style (one group of instruments begins, followed with a "response" by other instruments) because of the layout of the church he composed most of his music for. This music sounds like grown-ups talking to each other from across the room. Excerpts from Symphonic Metamorphoses - Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) Hindemith was a German composer who wrote vocal and orchestra music. Written in 1943, this piece is based on themes by Weber, another famous German composer. This piece is one of Hindemith's most often played works, and was even choreographed as a ballet for the New York City Ballet. This music sounds like people asking and answering questions. Happy Birthday Happy Birthday is said to be the best-known song in the United States! Its composer is unknown but until Fall of 2015 it was under copyright, so if someone sang it on tv or in a movie they could owe royalties up to $700! The conductor will explain that some songs have words, and the kids will get to sing along with the orchestra. Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 - Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) This aria is one of Villa-Lobos best-known works. It was originally written for soprano and celli but has been arranged for other instruments as well. The soprano will not be using any words as she sings along with this piece, in contrast to what the kids experienced during Happy Birthday. Romeo and Juliet, Dance of the Knights - Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) Dance of the Knights was written in 1935 as part of the Romeo and Juliet ballet. It is also known as "Montagues and Capulets," and depicts the struggles of the two famous warring families. Kids will get to stomp like giants along with the music. Symphony No. 7, Movements 2+4 - Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) Upon its premiere in 1813, Beethoven remarked that this symphony was one of his best works. The 2nd movement was so popular that they did an immediate encore. It is slow, oftentimes thought of as sad, but beautiful. The 4th movement, in contrast, is loud, happy, and bright. The conductor will talk to the kids about opposites in music before this piece.
L'Arlesienne - Georges Bizet (1838-1875) Though French composer Bizet lived a short life, he left a large legacy with works like l'Arlesienne and his opera Carmen. L'Arlesienne was originally written to be music for a play of the same name, but received great success after it was arranged to be played as a stand-alone suite. This piece will show more opposites in music: smooth versus rough/bumpy. Orpheus in the Underworld, Infernal Gallop- Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) Orpheus in the Underworld is a satirical/comic opera based on the Greek story of Orpheus and Eurydice. The Infernal Gallop is the best-known excerpt of music from this opera. Commonly called the Can-Can, this piece has been used across all genres of music and is instantly recognizable. Kids will be encouraged to lay on their backs and kick-up into the air as if they're doing the can-can. Masquerade Suite, Galop- Khachaturian (1903-1978) Choreography Title: Birthday Masquerade This music sounds like you're going to a party! Galop is the 5th movement of the Masquerade Suite. A galop, or galoppade, is a lively French country dance first introduced in Paris in 1820. Choreographed by Kim Robards, dancers from Kim Robards Dance will join us for this fun piece. The Planets, Mars- Gustav Holst (1874-1934) The Planets is an incredibly popular 7 movement suite by Holst that depicts all of the planets except for Earth. Mars, known as "The Bringer of War," is a fun and loud movement that was written for the fiery red planet with blazing brass and pounding drums. The conductor will talk about how some composers get ideas from other composers' music. Can't Stop the Feeling It's time to dance! This song from the hit-movie trolls was popular all summer long, with it's upbeat music and fun lyrics. Cody Qualls and Mark Megibow of Face Vocal Band will join us to perform this song. Before the song, kids will learn how to sound like different instruments. They'll then get a crash-course in percussion sounds and beat-boxing from Mark Megibow of Face. Feel free to get on your feet and dance! Overture to William Tell - Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) Rossini wrote 39 operas throughout his life, and this is the overture to his first opera, William Tell. An overture is a piece of instrumental music that introduces an opera or a play. Thanks to its use in the Lone Ranger TV series in the 1950s, this overture is often associated with cowboys and the wild west. Kids can pretend to ride their horses off into the sunset.
