WELCOME TO TINY TOTS!
We encourage children to move during the program! Feel free to let your little ones get up, dance, and participate in the interactive moments. Please be mindful of musicians and other attendees. Have any questions, comments, or concerns? Find a volunteer or staff member in a Tiny Tots shirt and we'll be happy to help!
ABOUT US Inside the Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We firmly believe that introducing children to the world of music and the arts at a young age strengthens not only that child, but the community as well. In order to be inclusive of all children, we underwrite our concerts, thus providing experiences that are otherwise unavailable to many children, communities, and schools.
Our Main Programs All of our programs get children inside the orchestra as they are seated on the floor and surrounded by professional musicians. Programs include diverse music and feature guest artists from other cultural organizations.
Tiny Tots Designed for children six and under. Tiny Tots seats the audience inside of a 30+ piece orchestra. Programs are held in locations all around the Denver metro area, from Parker to Boulder and in between.
Inside the Orchestra for Schools A 14-16 piece orchestra outreach program for k-8 schoolchildren. Both the repertoire and approach to learning are designed to support and enhance the school curricula. We have both an English language and a Spanish/English bilingual version of this program.
Additional Programs Inside the Orchestra offers programs for children with sensory processing disorders in partnership with the Autism Society. We also have performances for homeschool students in kindergarten through eighth grade. And for the grown-ups, we have one exciting, adults-only event a year, Inside the Orchestra for Adults. Find out more information about all of our programs at insidetheorchestra.org

PROGRAM NOTES Olympic Fanfare This piece was written for the 1984 broadcast of the Olympics in Los Angeles and has been used on the US television broadcasts ever since. Watch and listen as we demonstrate each instrument family one at a time and then show how they work as a team when they all play together. Each instrument family is wearing different colored shirts so keep your eyes out. Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star/ABC Song The music for Twinkle, Twinkle and the ABC Song (yes, it's exactly the same music!) has been around for hundreds of years and is used across many languages in many different songs. Children will get a chance to join our orchestra team and sing along. Double Concerto Featuring the violin section at the head of the orchestra, this is one of Bach's most well-known pieces. We'll hear what new sounds are made when different instrument families join together in creative and unique ways! Bugler's Holiday This piece features three trumpets and was originally written for the trumpet section of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Look around the room at our brass section who are all wearing bright orange shirts just like their shiny, metal instruments. Modern Major General We'll be joined by an opera singer from Central City Opera for this piece. It is known as one of the hardest pieces of opera music to sing because of its fast speed and abundance of words. Major General is a bit of a know-it-all. Listen closely as he tries to impress the audience with all of his words!
Dance of the Knights This piece is from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet ballet and features soaring strings and stomping brass. First, the kids will get to clap together. Then the adults will join in, showing how much louder it is when we work together as a team. Quintette en Ut A woodwind quintet features four members of the woodwind family (check them out in their red shirts) and the french horn from the brass family (in an orange shirt). Listen to each instrument make a sound and then it's your turn do your best french horn impression. Sabre Dance, choreographed by Kim Robards We'll be joined by Kim Robards Dance company members for this exciting piece of music. This piece from the ballet "Gayane" usually features dancers showing off their sword skills. It is one of the most recognized pieces of orchestra music from the 1900s. Before the music starts, kids will show off their best dance moves. Russian Sailor's Dance This piece is from Gliere's ballet "The Red Poppy" but it is often performed separately from the rest of the ballet because it is so popular. It is based on a Russian folk song that is still popular today. Listen to the way the music changes mood, from slow and focused to fast and energetic. Cowboys Overture John Williams wrote this over for the 1972 movie "The Cowboys." John Williams has composed the music for over 115 movies including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, ET and more. Watch the conductor and his baton and pretend to ride horses along with him and the music. Under the Sea Get ready to dance and sing along with this Disney favorite. If you've brought a scarf or fabric, bring it out and move it around like splashing ocean waves.
