ealthcare services have transformed dynamically over these past few months, especially with the advent of covid-19. The field has seen tremendous growth and challenges as well. It has become quite difficult to churn out the negatives and the positives since the pandemic has hit hard and it has affected almost every industry. Businesses are finding difficult to strike a balance and it has become evident that the challenges have just started. There are many companies that are providing healthcare services that have become quintessential during this pandemic. One such healthcare giant is Advatech Healthcare Europe. It facilitates 24-hour medical transport for governments, corporate organizations, and individual clinics. The company is based in London and deliver services as well as accredited training through existing providers. Advatech Healthcare works with non-emergency

This initiative has helped a lot of Bengali people who come in the UK to make their mark and serve their communities. Samit has started this initiative to appreciate and provide recognition to the Bengalis who are making a difference in the society. This is all to recognize the contributions made by the fellow Bengalis from the UK community, may be after they entrepreneurs or just another member of the productive society. He is very proud of his culture and heritage and wants to promote it in international borders as well. Currently due to the pandemic, the board of the Bengal’s Pride Awards has taken a decision to postpone the ceremony to October 2021. They are going to update regarding the upcoming dates of the award ceremony soon. So, if someone needs to nominate anyone suitable can continue to do so in the meantime.
His journey into the healthcare sector started with his exit from Metronics. Samit told them that he will be moving out in two years and will provide a suitable substitute in his place to take over the operations of Southeast Asia – Metronics Spinal business, which he was taking care of. He moved out of the conglomerate in 2011 to start Advatech Healthcare to fix the gap between the patients and doctors. His uncle whom he called ‘bade papa’, passed away due to the lack of right transportation resources in his hometown. This moved him to the core, and he went on to establish a company that is more equipped to avoid such hazards in the future. That is how Advatech Healthcare was born. Facilitating Transformational Capabilities Advatech Healthcare was launched in 2011 and incubated in STEP IIT Kharagpur, when Samit was exploring the opportunities of medical tourism for India. Having 23+ years of experience in the healthcare industry, Samit is well networked with all the major hospitals in India and abroad. During the process of moving patients, tissues, and samples from one region to another, it became apparent that there were clear gaps in organizing efficient medical transport. There was a need to improve the coordination and quality of the ‘pick up’, safe transport, and ‘drop off’ facility at all times. By 2014, a dedicated team of professionals had been recruited to run Advatech Healthcare’s medical transport services. The service has now been increased with several technological innovations, which run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. “We are now able to securely access the entire logistics pathway and patients’ movement online and through smartphones,” states Samit. “We have introduced a business model TACIT (Technology, Administrative, Consultancy, Infrastructure, and Training) on which we have built our healthcare services,” he adds
further. TACIT services are now being expanded in the UK and there are clear long-term economic benefits of delivering these TACIT services within the UK and to other countries, for e.g., Asian, African, and other countries within the Middle East (MEA). In the Long Run…. From the last eight years, the company has created a successful ambulance service and training program in Kolkata. Advatech Healthcare has become a leader in providing air and road ambulance services within Northeast India, where services have previously been lacking. The high quality internationally recognized training program encompassing all stages of life-saving training such as first aid, basic life support, advanced life support, and first responder and emergency medical technician courses. “We are clearly aware of the risks involved and have provisions in place to ensure adequate management of risks; hence services are delivered via a risk-averse model,” states the team at Advatech Healthcare. The company is also promoting an online and call centerbased helpline service dedicated to providing up to date information about private healthcare services in the UK. At present, the focus of the business in the UK is in expanding its ‘HIPPO Mobility’ services for non-emergency medical transport and 'out of hours logistics service' for pathology samples to the NHS and independent sector. There is a UK wide requirement that is currently not being provided nationally; 24 hours a day; by any other company in a costeffective manner. The company’s model will be able to positively impact the 7-day week, which is currently being implemented in the NHS GP services. It will also make more effective use of the existing laboratories and pathology reporting teams, consequently dealing with workload and capacity issues that are inherent in all parts of the healthcare sector.

A Dynamic Leadership Samit hails from a middle-class family. He was born and raised in a small town of West Bengal called Katwa. He completed his education there and moved to Kolkata for better opportunities. Samit started his career in sales with a reputed brand like Eureka Forbes. Although, his ambition was to become a doctor, his economic condition and education became a limitation to it. “But I am glad that I ultimately landed into the medical and healthcare field eventually,” says Samit.

A Possible Future of Healthcare Transportation Services Space
T
he healthcare sector has experienced tremendous change in recent times. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught the entire world that how important a well-developed healthcare system is for any country. It has refurbished the entire healthcare system and its major factors, which contributed to this transformation are increased focus on reducing logistic costs and quick transportation of patients and samples for testing.
The increasing need of healthcare transportation has played a critical role in the growth of healthcare transportation services. The use of transportation in medical centre, hospitals, nursing care facilities, and other activities is driving this growth. In recent years, only road was used as a mode to transfer a patient or sample for testing to the hospitals, labs, and other places. This included basic and advanced life support ambulance. But in the current era of advancements, people have started using air ways for quick and better experience. The airways include making use of flight escort services for the patients, who are comfortable in travelling by air and need medical assistance. The market for healthcare transportation sector is estimated to grow steadily post COVID-19 pandemic. This growth can be accelerated by making the efficient use of technology in transportation.
The Tech Uprising The best example of using technology in healthcare transportation is drones. Researchers have come up with an innovation to send the medical kits through drones. The drones can reach out to the site faster than ambulances and doctors. The technology can be used to reach the places, where it is difficult for a human to reach easily like in tribal areas. The advantage of using a drone is that a non-medical staff can also operate it. While the country has largest railways and roadways in the world, tackling logistic issues might be challenging. To overcome these challenges, drones can be an efficient mode to transfer vaccines, medicines, and other medical kits. In remote areas, the delivery of critical medicines can be faster and more accessible. Many countries of Africa have started using drones for delivering vaccines. Drones are also used in India in the emergency situations. The adaption of drone delivery system to transport essential medicine has become crucial to defeat the life-threatening disease and overcome the current pandemic. According to News18, the usage of drones should be permitted during emergency in the healthcare transportation sector just like the vaccination was granted for the emergency usage. Also, the fact that drones revolutionising the healthcare sector and are delivering the medicines and

vaccines faster should be acknowledged by the policy makers.
drones can possibly improve vaccination rate and aid in global immunization programs.
The drones have become the safest and fastest modes of delivering medical services in the world. The efficient use of technology in healthcare sector is helping to improve people’s lives and represent some greatest achievements of human intelligence. But people in underdeveloped areas still lack access to the basic medical services. Filling up these gaps in rural areas has become the most essential task for the health sector during the pandemic. Drones can be a way to fill up these gaps as they can be operated at the locations with lack of infrastructure, motorable roads, and connectivity.
The medical supplies can be delivered within 30 minutes with drones. These can fly to maximum areas arriving to a safe height above the drop location. Once arrived at the drop location, drones can land to deliver the package. We can expect that drones will be delivering our packages in future and will deliver them in minutes instead of hours and days.
Initialising Medical Drones With medical drones, we can expect a cheaper and faster mode of delivery of the supplies, even in an emergency condition. The drones can be used at such a crucial time when there are a smaller number of healthcare workers. This can speed up the nation’s recovery from the COVID19 pandemic. The vaccination drives can also be fast tracked by drones. A report by John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health stated that in the healthcare sector,
The technology is disrupting almost every business sector at a high-level. The arrival of drones has been one of the best uses of technology in the healthcare sector. As discussed, drones have the future in the medical field, so it is time for the government to create some policies considering the applications of drones and make them an essential part of healthcare transportation sector. Initiatives must be taken to bridge the gaps in the healthcare system and help medical facilities to reach every corner of the country with such innovations.

cities, and our USP is the fact that we have brought down the arrival time of an ambulance from 50 mins to 15 mins. Our mission, eventually, is to provide our services completely free of cost.
“Every year, lakhs of people die in India due to lack of/delay in medical treatment. There is a huge shortage of ambulances in India. To add to that, the average arrival time of an ambulance is anywhere between 50 mins to an hour, which as we have seen, increased to several hours during Covid.”
Aditya Makkar (Founder and CEO) and Shikhar Agrawal (Co-Founder and CTO) were students of IIT Bombay, while Venkatesh Amrutwar (CoFounder and COO) is an IIT Bombay alumni. Aditya has been a state-level Maths topper and won the prestigious President’s Award for his exceptional achievements for more than 12 patent-pending innovations.
“We realized that a quick and efficient emergency medical service was the need of the hour. We launched HelpNow as a 24x7 ambulance service to fulfil that need and to bring down the arrival time of an ambulance so that there is no delay in treatment for those in medical emergencies. Using technology and GPS, we have currently managed to bring down the ambulance arrival time to 15 minutes.”
Shikhar was an ambassador for the government of India’s youth exchange programme in Kyrgyzstan in 2019. In his first year at IIT Bombay, he founded Cravy, a fresh fruit and vegetable delivery service for students and campus residents across IIT, along with Aditya.
What kind of offerings do you provide to your clients? Shikhar Agrawal says,
Venkatesh was the Overall Coordinator of the coveted E-Cell (EntrepreneurshipCell). He founded RoadCare, a road quality monitoring system after IIT, and worked at a corporate house before joining Aditya and Shikhar to build HelpNow.
What made you venture into the healthcare transportation services sector? In the words of Aditya Makkar,
By providing medical support in crucial times and saving millions of lives, ambulance services play an important role. Private and public ambulance transport services are becoming more prevalent as an unavoidable service for urgent patients at critical times. One company that is providing ambulance services at the earliest is HelpNow. HelpNow has integrated technology into medical transport to create a service that is quick and reliable. It also has highly trained paramedics to manage critical health situations. The team is very positive about creating a service that will uplift the existing healthcare transportation system in India and turn it into one that will be easily accessible and affordable to all. Following are the highlights of the interview. Describe about your company/firm/profession in detail. HelpNow is a 24x7 ambulance service, which was launched two years ago with just 12 ambulances in Mumbai. It has grown today into a network of more than 350 vehicles in Mumbai alone, with operations in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and rapid expansions across the country. Our helpline number is 88222 88222 across all these

Delhi, Bangalore, and Pune. But our nation-wide expansion plans are going on in full steam.” “Our ambulances are available at subsidized rates, and we also offer free services to those with financial difficulties. And despite the ongoing pandemic, our constant endeavour has been to provide a safe, 24x7 logistics’ network for transporting regular/Covid patients, drugs, phlebotomists, healthcare workers, and blood/organ/medical supplies.”
and what were the steps taken by you to curb the damages all the while helping your clients and maintaining the safety of your employees? Shikhar Agrawal expresses,
“We want HelpNow to be available in every city and town of India, and to be completely free of cost, so that no one is devoid of a life-saving service such as an ambulance, either for lack of funds or availability.”
“The demand for ambulances, as we know, increased manifold. In the peak of Covid, the waiting hours for an ambulance surged from two to six to even 12. It reached a situation where if you were lucky, you got one!”
“HelpNow is also branching out into different emergency medical services’ verticals - from a mobile-based ambulance service app to a wellness app to an e-clinic - all of which will be digitizing healthcare in India. Techintegrated healthcare will revolutionize medical services in the country. And HelpNow will play a huge role in this transformation.”
“So, we started raising funds through fund-raising platforms to meet the growing demand. We used the time effectively between the first and second wave to put our operations’ teams and strategies in place in other cities added more vehicles to our fleet and created a battalion of dedicated warriors – our ambulance drivers and paramedics.”
What kind of challenges have you faced while entering the healthcare transportation services sector? According to Aditya Makkar, “Every start-up has its own set of challenges and teething troubles. The biggest challenge for us was the fact that barely eight months after we launched, the country was struck by Covid, which put the spotlight on India’s poor healthcare infrastructure.” “Though we were not prepared for a health crisis this large, medical transportation was the worst hit, we plunged right in and did our best to continue saving lives through our 24x7 well-equipped and sanitized ambulances.” How much your company/business was affected in these pandemic times
“We have taken utmost care of our ambulance staff. Whether it’s PPE kits, sanitizers, gloves or other first-aid medical supplies, our ambulance staff is well-equipped with all Covid-safety tools.” Where do you envision your company/business to be in the long run and what are your future goals? How do you plan to embrace the changes happening in your industry?
What is the current industrial scenario of the healthcare transportation services sector? In Shikhar Agrawal's words. “The healthcare transportation service is the backbone of any healthcare ecosystem. The availability of reliable transport impacts a person’s access to appropriate and timely healthcare.” “While healthcare transport services in India have come a long way from what they were, unfortunately, they’re still not enough to cater to the needs of our humongous population.”
Aditya Makkar says,

Healthcare Industry Issues
I
t is no surprise that the ongoing pandemic has brought everyone’s life on hold. The only thing running is the ambulance and different healthcare transportation services, which are working day and night to save people’s lives. With thousands of people calling 24/7 for help, it becomes difficult to manage the workflow. Fortuitously, the current circumstances have provided a significant boost to industry players with tech-based new-age solutions, especially in the medical transportation space.
AUGUTST 2021 | 25 | www.insightssuccess.in
India, as a developing country faced zillions of problems with healthcare even before Covid-19 hit it. Even with all the assistance, catering to the needs of almost 2 billion people is not easy. The transportation given by the government is not proving to be enough, that is where the new healthcare logistics company come into the game. The new industries are stepping forward as a strong support to Indian healthcare. These outsourced medical help providers have played an enormous role in the last two years since Covid19 proved to be a never-ending headache. These outpost medical services played an important role in the current ongoing circumstances. ‘Modern problems require modern solutions’; this line sums the current situation. The current healthcare system needed more tech-savvy solutions for easy and fast results. They also needed more ambulances on demand for better connectivity between two points. The most common need people do not get, especially in a rural area, is medical services. Except these, things affecting healthcare are lack of infrastructure, poor resources, low manpower, and increasing patient count. India is a country with high values and great heritage, people would not expect it to lack in things. But the fact that it is a developing country cannot be denied. It takes generations to be the best in everything. The country is now accepting the changes and being comfortable with them. Although, the problems can be handled in a better way with innovative solutions.
Lack of Infrastructure India has been struggling with a lack of infrastructure for a while now. Unavailability of resources is one of the prime reasons for it. The rate of building medical teaching and training facilities remains less in the given situation. Rules like private colleges and health institutes should be built on 5-acre land gave hard time to the medical practitioners. Colleges in rural areas do not get proper guidance because of poor living conditions and low pay. The lack of transportation, equipment, tech-savvy solutions, and the use of ML are the contributing factors for the shortage of infrastructural balance. Plus, Covid made it more difficult to give priority to this problem as the focus now is deleting the pandemic. Shortage of Manpower One of the most serious problems in India is an acute shortage of skilled manpower in the medical field including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and primary healthcare workers. The situation remains troublesome in rural areas, where nearly 66% of India’s population lives.
Unmanageable Patient Load It was difficult to manage patients in the first-place reasons being fewer resources, poor infrastructure, and a handful of manpower. But the current pandemic has made it worse. Zillions of patients and a smaller number of beds and attending staff makes it horrifying to deal with. It is also difficult for medical staff to deal with the situation as they are working non-stop and serving people. In order to manage patient flow use of technical resources should be done, which apparently is not available the way it should be. This makes it harder for the healthcare team to cope up with the financial loss and death rates. Adding to this, there is the question to think beyond the evidence and encourage virtual care conventions, and telehealth facilities, which can be leveraged to shrink the patient-load to a great extent. These are some challenges faced by the healthcare industry, which should be tackled as soon as possible. The population is growing with every passing second and so are the diseases. It is utterly necessary to make the healthcare department the best of all.
The doctor-to-patient ratio remains horribly low, which is merely 0.7 doctors per thousand people. Upgrading this situation continues to remain a time-consuming process. This particular issue can be resolved by adding more teaching staff and trained staff to the system. For better future results this is the best thing that can be done.

n the recent Covid-19 pandemic, healthcare transportation services have been in the focus. The sector deals with transferring the healthrelated equipment and patients through air or roadways. The growing need of fast transportation and improving healthcare sector has boosted the healthcare transportation.

times of Covid-19 pandemic. In an interview with Insights Success, the company shares its journey and talks about the challenges faced by them. Following are the highlights of the interview: Describe about your company in detail.
Previously, the roadway was the most prominent mode of transportation. But due to the pandemic, air ambulance has come to limelight. It is the fastest way to transport the medical equipment in emergency. But lack of awareness among people was the main cause that air ambulance was not used by many people. In recent times, many aviation companies have started spreading awareness about inculcating air ambulance with healthcare transportation. VTSKY Aviation Services Pvt. Ltd. is one such company, which has helped the healthcare sector during the tough
VTSKY Aviation Services Pvt. Ltd. is a service specialist organization based in Gurgaon, Haryana, offering its services connected with aviation and other activities. We provide private jet charters to business professionals in order to maximize their time efficiency. By chartering private jets, executives and senior managers can work around tight schedules, attending several meetings, or making numerous site visits in one day. With access to private terminals, you won't have to face busy airports and queues through security.
We earned the reputation of being a leader in the fixed wing air ambulance services that distinguish us from many global air ambulance companies and air medical providers. Our company has a large range of aircraft, suitable for medical evacuation flights and transportation. These include jets, turboprops, and helicopters, which are specially equipped to transport the sick and injured patient, accompanied by relatives and specialist medical staff. Brief us about the featured person and shed some light on his/her professional tenure. Mr. Vikash Beniwal, Managing Director, has 12 years of experience in aviation industry. He is from the village, Jogiwala of district Sirsa, Haryana. He is an aircraft maintenance engineer by qualification and has completed study from the School of Aeronautics, Neemrana, Alwar, Rajasthan. By profession, Vikash is a flight operations specialist and has worked with many charter operators.

best medical equipment to be on board and experienced medical staff was challenging for us.
During our tenure, we experienced some loopholes in air ambulance services like most of the people don’t know how to book an air ambulance, how its charges are applicable, about its medical staff, type of aircraft, etc.
First, we need to check the patient history, then accordingly need to choose aircraft, equipment, and medical staff.
People residing in remote cities faced difficulty in taking benefit of healthcare transport facilities because of these loopholes. That’s why we decided to make some difference in this air ambulance sector and started the journey. What kind of offerings do you provide to your clients? We are providing air ambulance with latest medical equipment and experienced medical staff for critically ill patient, ECMO transfer, organ transfer, covid patients, and deceased body transfer. Other services: Private charter flights for businessmen, politicians, or celebrities. Helicopter services for personal use, weddings, Vaishno Devi, Kedarnath, Amarnath, Chaar Dham. Aviation Trainings for pilot, cabin crew, aircraft maintenance engineering, or ground staff . What kind of challenges have you faced while entering the healthcare transportation services sector? When we started choosing the most suitable aircraft for patients, finding the
How much your company/business was affected in these pandemic times and what were the steps taken by you to curb the damages all the while helping your clients and maintaining the safety of your employees? During the pandemic, transfer of covid patients was a critical factor for us because we had to take care of patients, our pilots, and medical staff at the same time. But we can proudly say that we did our best and transferred many covid patients. We are still doing the same with utmost care. What would you like to advice the young generation of entrepreneurs?
Bearing in mind the future of air ambulance services in India, we are coming with some latest technologies. Shortly, we will introduce a special aircraft, or we can say a flying hospital. In our fleet that will be pre-equipped with all the latest medical equipment, so that we can transfer the patient in shortest time with utmost care from anywhere in India. What is the current industrial scenario of the healthcare transportation services sector? Currently, health care transportation services are not up to the mark as compared to other countries and still hospitals are a dominating factor. India is the second largest populated country and except metro cities most of the population is not in reach of road ambulance then air ambulance is so far away. This industry can create jobs in lakhs. Looking some steady growth in coming years.
Every entrepreneur needs to face some challenges during the journey. However, they have to come across various ups and downs. In such circumstances, they need to stay tuned on the goal. Every industry have pros and cons and we need to figure out these. For the best result we just need to concentrate on best services and let the profit be a byproduct of your services. Where do you envision your company/business to be in the long run and what are your future goals? How do you plan to embrace the changes happening in your industry?
