E-learning Insights Importance of Online Learning Education in Pandemic Dynamics of Online Education with the Onslaught of Covid-19

2021 Vol.-06 Issue-09

Editor’s Note O

nline education went from 0 to 100 in record time after Covid-19 hit across the globe. It became paramount to change the ways we learnt things, right from the study material to even basic cooking.

IS E-LEARNING GOING TO BE THE NEW NORMAL?

Everything became digital and so did the online learning concept. Many universities and teaching institutes had to adopt the ‘e-teaching’ model to impart education rapidly. The transition from traditional teaching to online teaching had been difficult for many educators. But the challenge it has posed is too great for the students and learners. Due to the advent of social media and its awareness spreading like wildfire amongst youngsters, the attention span of an average millennial has reduced to roughly six seconds. If one fails to get their attention during this flash of a time, it can be easily assumed that the desired communication to be made has failed miserably to reach its destination. Especially, when the screen time is considered, people want engaging content online. Most people would say that this poses as more of a personal problem for students, but it is a calamity, or it will turn into one if not addressed early on. Attention deficit is creating a problem for learners and students to retain information and stopping them in using it in a productive way. Educators are facing an issue of teaching online, mostly due to technical reasons and the lack of having physical presence

during the class is also proving to be a limitation. What educators did earlier is not working now and although they are welcoming this change from offline to online teaching, the practical application of it has not been quite productive. If a learner’s point of view is considered, the online teaching model has availed them plenty of free time to do other things apart from just academics. So, it is a plus for them. But whether this free time has been used properly or not is still unaccountable for many students. Again, it becomes a personal choice for every individual in terms of how to use the time saved due to the non-commute to work/school and getting ready to go to work that may include a set of tasks. This is the time when time management skills of people would be tested at great lengths. Efficiency can be derived while going through this phase, only if one is willing to do so. Other than saving time, online learning would facilitate the convenience of studying from a comfortable space where one can either achieve great things or lose focus. For many of the learners, it is the latter. It is also a challenge for the parents who have children aged between 6 years to 12 years. This age group needs an open environment and requisite social skills to evolve and develop to be a functional member of the society. So, the answer to whether e-learning is going to be the new normal or not is still in the shadows. But it can be surely said that e-learning will become a crucial part in every student’s or learner’s life. Some things are better

learnt the old way, by physically or practically getting involved with the subject. For the time being though, online learning is a great option to steer through the challenges in education and acquiring new skills. This is the reason, that in the latest edition of Insights Success – The Most Promising E-learning Solution Providers, we are portraying some of the best online teaching or educating agencies that are dynamically contributing towards the online learning space of India. What is the current industrial scenario of the Indian e-learning market space? India has become the second largest

market for E-learning after the US. The sector is expected to reach US$ 1.96 billion by 2021 with around 9.5 million users. In India, the online education market is forecasted to reach ~US$ 11.6 billion by 2026.

We offer students with a competitive edge in careers and enable them to become dynamic job-ready professionals

The pandemic has remodeled the old chalktalk teaching model into one driven by technology. The number of those enrolling for virtual classes has witnessed an exponential rise and the trend is likely to stay. Policymakers in India are now looking to drive engagement at scale while ensuring inclusive eLearning solutions.

India has 35 million students enrolled in higher education contributing to a small gross enrolment ratio (GER) of 26 per cent. China with a larger population has a much higher GER of 51.6 per cent. If we are to achieve the target of 50 per cent GER by 2035 as envisaged by the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, we have to give prominence to online learning. A futuristic aspect of the Narendra Modi government's Budget 2020 was the announcement of National Digital Educational Architecture (NDEAR) “for administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, automation and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs”, which could lead to a learning management system. LMS is driven by AI, supports delivery of online learning and acts as a platform for online content and courses, both in synchronous and asynchronous modes. LMS also includes intelligent algorithms to make automated recommendations for courses based on a user's skill profile as well as extract meta-data from learning materials in

Dr. Anuj Kacker President and Executive Director order to make such recommendations even more accurate. 4. What is the current industrial scenario of the global e-learning market space? E-Learning Market size surpassed USD 250 billion in 2020 and is anticipated to grow at an exponential CAGR of over 21% between 2021 and 2027. The advent of several new technologies, such as AI, VR, and cloud based LMS, will drive the market growth. The emergence of an AIenabled e-learning solution will help in the development of smart content, digitized study guides, and real-time questioning. According to published global statistics, • The global industry has since its birth grew by 900% globally. Since its inception, the online learning market fact suggests that by 2025 to hit the $325 billion mark with over two decades. • Global markets experiencing 30% annual market growth include Thailand, India, China, and the Philippines. • The Asian market, which is the largest consumer, sees a 20% annual increase in its revenue through the

online learning industry. As of 2020, mobile e-learning had grown by $38 billion. From 2017 to 2022, there is an expected upward trajectory of $6 billion. At least 60% of internet users have indulged in online learning. This is because they can comfortably do it at the comfort of their time and place. 80% of companies and 50% of institutional students have used an elearning platform. E-learning takes 40% to 60% lesser time for employees and students than conventional learning. The majority of companies are shifting to e-learning. Around 42% of the institutions have experienced a rise in revenue strong as some costs, such as travel costs, have been significantly cut. E-learning enhances the learners' retention rate to 25% to 60% retention, unlike while having oneon-one tutoring, which has a retention rate of 8% to 10%. This is because one can quickly revisit what they learned, and they tend to have more control over the process.

5. How is technology complimenting elearning in the broader spectrum?

How has the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic influenced the global elearning space? Online education has received a high degree of attention during the lockdown period mainly because it was the only method available. But online education is not a new discovery made during the Covid-19 period. The advantages and limitations of this medium are well recognized and documented. Pure online education has some definite advantages particularly amongst those who seek selfpaced learning and flexibility of timings or place. This is true for many students who are working professionals. This set also tends to be more selfmotivated. Online learning also comes with severe limitations particularly in the younger age group who are below 25 years and are seeking career building skills. As I see it once the immediate need has passed both physical Instructorled and Remote learning will continue in balance. Blended learning would also gain some traction. The form of medium will be determined by the learner profile, learning objective and convenience factors. The choice will be made by the learner as all forms of education will continue to be available. Technology in education goes much beyond the use of web conferencing and Learning Management Solutions. All subjects that do not require hands-on skills will go the online way. Others that require competency-based skills need a blend of both online and offline modes. However, what is certain is that learning providers will deploy a higher degree of technology in the delivery process irrespective of whether the student is in the class or sits at home. This trend is again not new but will receive a big impetus. The choice of such technologies will again be specific to the domain and the learner profile. Our franchise partners are even today very conversant with use of technology for delivery. For example, our students from Arena Animation and Maya

Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) use Augmented Reality in the class for learning their crafts. Students have access to many proprietary in-house platforms like Creosols and Online Varsity which all are designed to enhance their all-round learning and life skills. Such tools and mechanisms also are competitive differentiators which help the franchisees enroll students. We will continue to enhance the use of technology in delivery which will benefit our students and franchise partners. 6. What would be your strategic approach to scale your business in 2021 and beyond? Despite the pandemic, between March – Dec 2020, Aptech Limited across all its education brands • Over 6.4 lac Tutor Hours and over 30.64 lac student hours delivered • Close to 4 Lac online classes/batches delivered till date • Close to 2000 students have been placed despite the lockdown and we have done 700+ webinars • We tied up with Vancouver Center of Entertainment and Arts, Canada for students from our media and entertainment brands that is MAAC and Arena Animation looking for career progression. • In association with Media and Entertainment Skill Council we conducted Biggest Virtual Job Fair with over 1500+ registrations. We will continue to leverage and build on our online capabilities considering the ongoing pandemic. Once the normalcy is restored, the company plans to tap into the Tier-2 and -3 markets to enhance business presence in the upcountry locations. The aspirations of students in smaller cities and towns are no lesser than the aspirations of students from urban cities. Online and technologybased learning is democratizing access to quality education. Hence, with our deep technology play we are well placed to cater to the aspirations of the students and professionals in Tier-2 and -3 locations through blended learning

model. 7. What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs who aspire to venture into the e-learning space? E-Learning Market size surpassed USD 250 billion in 2020 and is anticipated to grow at an exponential CAGR of over 21% between 2021 and 2027. So, if you are really interested in a franchise or keen to make an entrepreneurial debut in this segment, this is as good a time as any. But the bigger issue is not the timing of the decision but really the decision itself. My advice to the budding entrepreneurs or franchise seekers is that – (i)Evaluate the company on at least 3 parameters: (a) Robustness of their business model (b)Proven track record in franchise business/ Scalability (c) Prospects of the domain in which you seeking to be a franchisee/ entrepreneur ii) Define the 'I' in your ROI. Let it be involvement instead of investment. In other words, be prepared to be “hands on” iii) Be clear in your expectations - What will you be bring to the table and what do you expect from the franchisor/ investors 8. Where do you envision yourself and your company to be in the long run and what are your future goals? In the words of Jack Welch, “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” Therefore, what I envision personally and professionally is to mentor/ frientor younger talent and pass on my years of experience and in-depth understanding of the business to drive Aptech Limited to a bigger tomorrow of performance and success.

W

hile eLearning used to be merely an option for students, particularly those who were unable to go to their designated schools, the pandemic essentially required eLearning as a practical and safe means of continuing education during lockdown or quarantine. While most urbanized places can swiftly accept it, many students may find it difficult to make the transition to eLearning due to two primary factors: lack of/inadequate network and school faculty unprepared to deal with the abrupt change. The eLearning sector had been steadily growing even before the coronavirus outbreak. However, as more and more companies invest in virtual learning experiences for their employees, there is an accelerated development in this sector. Education has evolved from being a one-room, red-brick schoolhouse to a globe-spanning industry poised for rapid growth. According to a joint report of Google and KPMG, the Indian EdTech market was valued at $247 million in 2016 and is expected to reach $2 billion by 2021. The massive rise in the paid user base for online education platforms has created a green turf for EdTech companies across geographies to change the way teachers and students learn, forever.

The 10 Most Promising E-learning solution providers

ByteXL What is the current industrial scenario of the global e-learning market space? Recent years have witnessed substantial growth in hi-tech solutions in the field of education. With the pandemic entering the picture and the world undergoing a seismic shift, digital transformation has hit businesses, working professionals, and individuals across industries. The overwhelming increase in the use of mobile devices during the massive coronavirus outbreak has further accelerated the need for leveraging technology as a key enabler in making education accessible for all. How is technology complimenting elearning in the broader spectrum? Quality education has certainly become the need of the hour. Since students who have inadequate basic skills are directly promoted to advanced courses across the spectrum of learning, there has been an emerging need to strengthen their basics with a solid foundation and enhance their learning through career shipping specialization courses. EdTech players in the market are empowering modern-age students to skill, upskill, and reskill through multi-year informal training programs and truly prepare them with the skills of the future. At ByteXL, we realized that to enable India's youth to tap on new opportunities and secure jobs, we need to make learning accessible to all to give them the competitive advantage. So, we onboarded a team of highly qualified and experienced technology leaders from leading IT majors who work towards helping young engineering students turn challenges into opportunities through self-learning courses and guided training.

How has the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic influenced the global elearning space? The global crisis has set an alarm for education regulators to adopt merit-based corrective steps. The fact that there is a possibility of lockdown and possible restrictions in the future in the way we live, play, and work cannot be denied. Constantly exploring new ways to use technology as a medium to improve learning experiences is the only way to remain agile and drive growth in the education industry. A hybrid model for institutions which is a mix of offline and online training for students and teachers will be the future of learning and training. EdTech and digitization at large will greatly supplement the education process by offering personalized learning solutions and new avenues for students to engage with teachers. The demand for online learning platforms like ByteXL is likely to increase, as they provide tremendous benefits to students to gain adequate technical knowledge needed to open a realm of job opportunities in the IT industry. Even before the onset of the coronavirus, ByteXL was pushing for digitally transforming the higher education sphere. We realized that there was a skillgap between academia and industry and that students lacked the technical skills needed to be “job-ready”. To resolve this, we started ByteXL with the mission to enable today's youth to be future-ready and become key contributors in the world economy. Our platform focuses on critical learning aspects of college students to boost their career growth. We collaborate with institutions and work closely with students to develop key skills in IT programming languages and

emerging technologies and make them ready to compete against the world's best tech talent. What would be your strategic approach to scale your business in 2021 and beyond? To meet the growing demand of a skilled workforce in the IT industry, ByteXL is dedicatedly working towards creating a one-stop platform for students to develop the required skills in the field of IT and innovation. Students will undergo an extensive learning program and gain the confidence as well as the competitive advantage to overcome challenges and increase their chances of getting hired by the world's leading tech companies. What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs who aspire to venture into the e-learning space? eLearning or EdTech is a booming sector and there is always need for education. That means there is more demand than supply. Even though there are more than 5000 EdTech startups in India the supply is less compared to the need. In addition, self-learning is still in evolution phase so I would see lot of innovation required in order to achieve maturity in EdTech. Where do you envision yourself and your company to be in the long run and what are your future goals? 'To empower young aspirants to become an indispensable part of the future workforce by equipping them with future-proof IT skills remains our focus and we continue to work towards the mission.' ByteXL is envisioning to become leader in learning and skilling of engineering graduates right from the beginning of their course rather than being a finishing school.

nline education has emerged as one of the most lucrative options for learning and skill development. Many young aspirants are shifting their focus towards a platform that enables more than just a holistic approach to education, which is, an environment that contributes to their overall academic development. With the advent of digitization, this approach has been receiving quite the attention as we all know that youngsters nowadays are more tech savvy and rely on technology for meeting their daily needs of information and entertainment. Some are using both the above-mentioned factors in synergy and it has proved quite quintessential in garnering knowledge at faster pace than normal or traditional ways of learning at a brick-and-mortar institutional setup. But with all the boom of technological advancements, digitization, and smart devices at our disposal; it has become paramount to understand how to leverage these resources in a productive way! There have been many instances where the power of technology and availability of information at fingertips, has done more damage than something good. But that is all due to the lack of awareness amongst people. So, this article focuses on the essence of online learning to create a healthy relationship with the concept of education through Internet. There are different online platforms available now that are catering to the dynamic educational needs of the students and learners. Some of them are using learning management systems (LMS) to impart knowledge in these desperate times of the pandemic. This technology has proved to be quite useful in rendering conceptual information to be curated, maintained, and relayed in a comprehensive way to the learner. Essentials Revealed As we all know that Covid-19 has emerged as a huge challenge for the global education sector, a lot of institutes are motivated to shift their teaching models to an online platform. These platforms may have been their own or outsourced one, but their functionality remained the same – to impart knowledge to students with the institute’s values and policies in mind.

A lot of students and their parents are facing problems in channelising through the smart devices for learning purposes. Many of them are new to the idea of online learning and that is why, it is necessary to establish the necessity of a basic idea of how online learning works and its importance in this VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) world. With the following points narrowed down to make people understand the dynamics of online learning, you will find it interesting to know why it is so important today: 1. Global Approach: Online learning connects teachers and students from all over the world through a single platform. It helps in imparting knowledge that is not just limited to a single geographical location. Also, students who opt for this approach not only share one platform, but they share the vast knowledge of different culture they bring together which truly makes the whole experience a global classroom. 2. Flexible Learning Hours: An online learning platform provides students with an option to utilize their time in the most constructive way. Students get to learn at their own free time and at their pace without any worries of missing out on important lectures as they can watch the recorded session later and take notes while doing so. Plus, learners can also engage themselves in other skill development activities rather than just academics as they get to prioritize their active learning sessions with their co-curriculars more smartly. 3. Enables Choice-based Learning: Students with the online learning option get to choose subjects and fields as per their interest. Many traditional institutes have an already established system of enrolment for courses where students have no room for experimentation, or they do not get to explore varied subjects. But this is not the case with online learning. Here, you have options to select from various fields and different subjects as per your liking and your professional goals. This entirely makes your academic experience a complete package of knowledge and satisfaction.

been observed that the results are exemplary. This approach directly affects students at the core level of their understanding and enhances their scope of growth exponentially. 5. Available with a Click of a Button: Online learning is made simple with technology. Many of the students are benefiting from the simple fact that they do not have to go anywhere to learn what interests them, especially in these troubling times when the novel coronavirus has engulfed the whole world. Online learning is enabling a contactless learning environment that is easy to access no matter where you are. Even the doubts and concerns of students are getting resolved online with specialized LMS nowadays. Students and learners can get redressal, or their concerns addressed and resolved in a short amount of time online. This has helped in cutting the traveling time as well as cost. Online learning has emerged as a boon to our society and has revolutionized the global education sector after the pandemic. It has become crucial that every individual gets on-board and on track with the latest technological updates and start integrating themselves with digital platforms to learn. It has been made fairly clear that education is important and so is getting it online. Hence, it would not be wrong to say that online learning is here to stay for a long time and people have to accept its existence and transform their learning habits to the ever-growing digital space of classrooms. Earlier, education was imparted under the banyan trees. But now, it is the age for computers and smartphones. As they say, as the time changes – so should you!

4. Creates a Dynamic Learning Environment: Online learning helps students to expand their horizons and go above and beyond in their learning experience. In some of the online platforms, the courses are tailor-made which assists the student at an individual level. It covers his/her holistic growth that is personalized. Now, when personalized approach is utilized in education, it has JUNE 2021 | 18 | www.insightssuccess.in

Sometimes, your content may be your product! Clearly Blue can help you with all these requirements. Read along to know more about Clearly Blue in the following interview.

What is the current scenario of the Indian e-learning market space? While content has become commoditized, the imperative to learn, unlearn and re-learn has never been more important as it is today. All industries are getting digitally disrupted. Workforces must be made responsible, responsive and ready with 21st century skills to be productive contributors.

Kindly mention in detail about your company/institution. Clearly Blue is a knowledge services and solutions firm working with healthcare, education and B2B technology companies. We have three verticals - learning, content marketing and design.

EdTech companies are focusing majorly on skill-building professionals with the latest tools and technologies. However, engagement and completion rates of e-learning courses are abysmal due to low interactivity and length of courseware.

Brief us about the featured person and his/her journey in the e-learning space. Clearly Blue was founded by Padmaja Narsipur, who returned to India after working for Intel Corp. USA. Previously a software engineer, she was trained in elearning instructional design by SAP Germany. She has undertaken numerous content creation projects in the learning and marketing spaces for some of the biggest companies in the world before starting Clearly Blue. Our vision is to sharply focus on delivering world-class content in the form of innovative e-learning courses. Clearly Blue is a full-services e-learning firm delivering technology and management courses incorporating the latest in learning and instructional design, graphics design, 2D animation and other forms of video creation, gamification and other frontier methodologies. Clearly Blue has a social mission to support women professionals returning to work after a career break. Many of our instructional designers are engineers who've returned to work under this program.

The need of the hour is to engage learners with a combination of engaging content, lively communities, interaction gamification and storytelling. What is the current scenario of the global e-learning market space? Globally, the pandemic has acted as a forcing function for employers as employees increasingly work from home. Increasing automation of several roles and tasks means that constant relearning is required – not in skills anymore, but to develop an interdisciplinary broad-based set of competencies that will help knowledge workers add value in any role. These twin forces are vaulting e-learning to the front and center of HR and L&D leaders' strategies to keep their workforces sharp and ready. How is technology complementing e-learning in the broader spectrum? Technology-based learning has been around for over two decades. However, with immersive tech such as AR/VR and interactive tech such as gamification platforms, tech-based learning has become engaging. Aided by AI-driven learning management systems, educators are now able to offer

personalized learning paths for learners based on their aptitudes and interests, and map those learning paths to what the industry is seeking. Recruiters can transparently assess learners on such platforms and recruit from the best and brightest. How has the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic influenced the global e-learning space? As mentioned previously, the pandemic is a forcing function giving e-learning the exponential turbocharge that other industries have faced over the last two decades. We are in the beginning of this disruption – education as we know will change forever over the next decade. What would be your strategic approach to scale your business in 2021 and beyond? Clearly Blue is looking at providing holistic upskilling to modern-day workforces, beyond mere skills and certifications. The need of the day is to build T-shaped individuals who offer a sharp specialization along with broad communication and collaboration skills. We have a vision to help enterprises build such professionals who will bring tangible value addition to their employers. What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs who aspire to venture into the e-learning space? This is a very exciting space to be in currently. I would advise budding entrepreneurs to keep the learners at the front and centre and build disruptive solutions that will make learning immersive, engaging and fun. Any other unique program by Clearly Blue? We have launched SmarTEN, a mobile app to help 10th Standard students revise key concepts in just 20 minutes per day and ace the board exams. SmarTEN is being launched next month after a successful beta release. Clearly Blue also has launched SmartStart, a mobile learning platform for professionals. We are starting a pilot with a major enterprise customer this month. We will announce details shortly. Where do you envision yourself and your company to be in the long run and what are your future goals? The vision to equip modern-day professionals has already been elaborated. Within 3-5 years we aim to bring this vision to anyone who wants to learn.

How is e-learning going to shape the education industry worldwide? As Singularity University founder Peter Diamandis mentions in his keynote “The future is faster than you think”, we are entering an era of abundance from an era of scarcity – abundance in energy, data, information, and yes, in learning. E-learning is instrumental in democratizing education as we know it. This dramatic change has been brought about by cheaper devices (mobile phones, tablets), cheaper data, cheaper memory and the content creator economy. As we step into the third decade of the 21st century, content creators are everywhere – in YouTube playlists, short WhatsApp videos, sending out Substack newsletters, opining on Twitter threads and posting visual content on Instagram. Content has been commoditized. So, one might almost sing the elegy for e-learning courses. Yet, the need for a guiding hand has never been felt more by learners: for expert mentors, coaches and teachers who can help guide learners' paths and be available for feedback, insights and clarifications. Man is a social animal – throwing a bunch of videos at him and asking him to 'selflearn' is a sure-shot recipe for disaster. Learners want a supportive community, they want constant engagement and they need feedback to learn, to thrive, to grow. This leads me to make a 'safe' prediction: the days of gargantuan video-driven courses with multiple choice assessments are over. The future belongs to engaging, immersive, community-supported, cohort-based special purpose e-learning with all the bells and whistles. Collaborative mode? Check. Online games, competitions, puzzles and leaderboards? Check. Immersive AR/VR aided learning? Double check. E-learning is here to stay, whether as a supportive addendum to bricks and mortar learning for schools and colleges, or in a pure digital avatar for busy professionals. It will mimic real-life more and more. Our grandchildren will look back at classroom-only cohorts as quaint anachronisms.

Education in Pandemic

D

d-19

uring these challenging times of the pandemic, there is a common term we often hear- ‘the new normal’. The new normal has also become a part of the education sector with the use of online learning tools. With the pandemic changing things gradually, educational institutions are adopting new ways of learning. They are opting for online learning platforms to continue with the process of educating students. The new normal has now transformed the concept of education as educational institutions are now going online to complete the courses in time and to conduct in-depth sessions for the students. In today’s situation, digital learning has become essential for students and institutions across the globe. Although, for many institutions, it is a new way of education, however the current scenario demands for the adoption of this process. Online learning is now not only applicable to academics, but also to carry out extra-curricular activities, and the trend may also continue in the times to come. However, before implementing online learning methods, it is important to gather information about its positives and negatives. If institutions decode and understand the positives and negatives of online learning, it will help them to create efficient strategies to deliver effective lessons, and ensure uninterrupted learning for the students. Advantages of Online Learning Online learning provides the teachers and students with a plethora of advantages which have been mentioned below: •Enhanced Productivity: With online learning, teachers can deliver lessons to the students with efficiency. Equipped with a variety of tools such as videos, audio files, PDFs, and podcasts, it allows teachers to deliver extensive sessions. They can also extend their lesson plan beyond the traditional text book and make each classroom session more impactful. •Flexibility of Time and Place: With online learning, students can attend their classes from any place. It breaks geographical barriers, and teachers can reach out to a more extensive network of students. Online classroom sessions can be recorder, archived, can be shared many times, and can also be used for future reference. Students can comfortably access the learning materials any time and at any place. •Financially Affordable: Online learning also provides the advantage of reduced financial expenditures. It is not as expensive as physical

learning because it eliminates various costs such as student transportation, electricity and infrastructural expenses, maintenance costs, and so on. •Better Student Attendance: Online classes can be attended from any location. Hence, there are fewer chances that students would miss out on lessons. •Applicable on Numerous Learning Styles: Every student has their own way of learning and grasping different concepts. Learning styles may vary between students- some may be visual learners, while others may be good at learning by listening to audio content. Similarly, some students are solo learners and distracted when they study in large groups, while there are many who learn better in group studies. Online learning provides personalized learning options and a plethora of resources. It provides the scope of creating the perfect learning environment, which suits the requirements of every student. Disadvantages of Online Learning Just like every other technological innovation, online learning also has many disadvantages on the flipside. Some of them are as follows: •Problem of Focusing on the Screen: During online classes, many students struggle with focusing on the screen for a longer span of time. Moreover, since the classes are taking place online, there are chances that the students get distracted and engage in social media and other websites. Therefore, teachers should make sure that the classes are crisp, interactive, and engaging so that the students stay focused on the lesson.

learn a lot. However, online classes do not provide the scope of physical interaction between the students, their peers, and the teachers. This eventually creates a sense of isolation within the students and can be detrimental for their learning. To overcome such issues, school authorities should provide alternate forms of communication between the teachers and the students. This may include online messages, emails, video conferencing, and so on. This will provide the scope of face-to-face interaction and overcome the sense of isolation. •Screen Time Management: Many parents are concerned that their children may develop many health issues since they spend so many hours staring the screen. The increased screen time and prolonged exposure to a computer or mobile phone screen is one of the biggest concerns and disadvantages of online learning. Students may develop ailments such as back and headaches due to staying hunched in front of the screen for a long time, or because of staring at the screen, which may affect their eyes. Online education has emerged as a necessity during the times of the covid-19 pandemic. It definitely provides numerous benefits to the teachers and the students. However, there are various disadvantages of online learning, which need to be taken into account to ensure successful educational activities in the online classroom.

•Complications Related to Technology: Online classes may also face the problem of poor internet connectivity. While internet connection is at the disposal of almost everyone nowadays, many smaller cities and towns do not have consistent internet connection or decent speed. If students or teachers do not have consistent internet connection, then the teaching–learning process may get disrupted. This will break the continuity and will be detrimental to the education process. •Students feel Isolated: During regular classroom sessions, students get to interact with each other and JUNE 2021 | 30 | www.insightssuccess.in 03 | MM 2021 | www.insightssuccess.in
