oday’s thinkers have the ability to change the world. Their thoughtful actions, ability to notice a problem and understand pain, and passion to find enhanced solutions have always impacted businesses and thousands of lives in turn. Vikas Sharma, Vice President & CEO of HCIN Networks is a thoughtful leader of today, who during his 16 years of career span in the IT and Telecom industry noticed the lack of quality network services. Employees, as well as companies, faced that, and it became the hurdles in employee productivity and in business growth. After understanding the problem Vikas, with his rich experience in the IT industry and zest to provide robust solutions, entered the network service providers’ sector.

Establishing HCIN Networks HCIN Networks was incepted on the grounds of providing robust internet services to the corporate sector that lacked reliable services. “In last 3-4 years of my career in Telecom field, I noticed, there is huge demand for reliable and stable managed internet leased line services. The demand and supply gap seemed to grow further with only a few telecom giants providing reliable, stable and on time Enterprise bases Managed internet services,” Vikas explained. Although the demand was huge, company faced several challenges to place a strong foot in the market in its early days. One of the biggest challenges Vikas recalled was getting the license to start providing internet services to the corporate sector.

Overcoming the pandemic of challenges Acquiring the company and finally establishing HCIN Networks was only the first hurdle that the team overcame together. What came next was the biggest challenge any business faces at the start – to acquire customers’ trust. “We were new in the market and we started providing internet services to businesses and enterprises.

Ambitious and visionary Leader “In the last 3-4 years of career in Telecom when I was a Vice President of an ISP, I noticed multiple companies’ struggle to find reliable and stable internet leased line services,” Vikas said, “This mostly happened due to lack of niche experience and lack of smooth processes as well as delayed installation and implementation of services.” Vikas observed the pain points and gained the necessary knowledge which, later helped him in establishing HCIN Networks. Being the visionary leader, Vikas further led his team to expand the business by providing IT services along with enterprise internet connections. The company became the channel partner to various IT giants such as NTT Data to provide data centre solutions and VMWare to provide virtual solutions. The company has also been providing other IT system integration solutions to its customers.

Don’t just aim to be a service provider, aim to The second challenge Vikas explained was the global pandemic that has impacted the global economy since its become a preferred announcement by WHO in March partner to your 2020. When HCIN Networks started its This intelligent move of the CEO operations in August 2019, just after customer. helped establish the company as a six months the company had to pass “Due to COVID-19 many businesses and establishments had to shut down while others had to opt for remote working to ensure social distancing initially due to which the company lost 30-40% of its customers. This was a huge setback for the company at the start,” Vikas shared. However, his ambition to pass these hurdles and strongly establishes the company’s roots in the market helped Vikas find a solution to move forward. Shortly after the lockdown was imposed in India in March 2020, the company acquired La Pointe Telecom Solutions and continued its operations under HCIN Networks.

the hurdles of series of lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Establishing a brand by gaining trust in this sector was a huge challenge for us,” Vikas said. However, HCIN Networks and its team passed the next hurdle with reliable and affordable managed internet leased line connections as well as cordial customer services to its enterprise customers. This helped the company gain its first few clients further expanding its strong roots to other sectors including IT, education, and manufacturing, and E-commerce.

preferred IT partner to various enterprises that further helped accelerate the company’s growth within a short time since its inception. Making a mark in the market HCIN Networks has expanded its range to provide comprehensive services to its customers. The company provides licensed services as an internet service provider in PAN India as well as an infrastructure provider to other telecom and internet giants such as Airtel and TATA. The company also provides comprehensive IT support and system integration solutions and SD-WAN (software-defined Wide Area Network) solutions as a value addition to the company’s licensed solutions.

“Through our SD-WAN solutions the companies can define internet service protocols as well as control and manage all the company locations across the globe,” explains Vikas.

households.

An entrepreneurial advice “During my time in the business field as senior management personnel, what I have observed is that you should have self-confidence and belief required to take any kind of risk. If you don’t trust yourself no one will,” advises Vikas to the budding entrepreneurs. His advice comes from his decade of experience in the business world. He further says, “You should also understand your weaknesses while keeping in mind your strengths. Observe the opportunities available and gather knowledge and expertise required to mitigate the threats and walk the path towards your goals.” Vikas also shares his views on building the team and getting the final steps, right before you start something of your own. “Complete the SWOT analysis of what you want to achieve, what you already have, and what kind of team you want to build and customers you want to serve,” says Vikas, “Don’t just aim to be a service provider, aim to become a preferred partner to your customer.”

IoT Insights

SEPTEMBER 2021 | 14 | www.insightssuccess.in

I

n the past few years, IoT has become one of the most disruptive technologies of the 21st century. None of us ever thought that the application area of IoT can be so huge. The technology can connect numerous objects including cars, kitchen appliances, baby motoring, and the list endlessly goes on. These objects can be connected by embedding sensors in the devices. The sensors communicate with the connected devices through the internet to monitor or exchange information. It creates a harmonious communication between people and things. With the help of IoT technology, the physical things can share or collect information by cloud, low-cost computing, mobile technologies, analytics, or big data with the minimum involvement of humans.

SEPTEMBER 2021 | 15 | www.insightssuccess.in

All the objects, which are connected to internet for transmitting the data from the physical world to the digital world are considered as ‘smart objects’. The main purpose of IoT is to use smart objects to enhance the lives of people and digitalise the world. In IoT technology, the physical world and the digital world meet to collaborate and build a better future ahead. Evolution of IoT Technically, IoT technology was launched in the year 1999 but it was not used widely in that period. The practitioners and researchers from academia and industry were brought together in March 2008 in the first IoT conference for sharing the knowledge. In that year, IoT was considered as one of the six disruptive civil technologies by the US National Intelligence Council. The Cisco Business Solutions Group (CIBSG) stated in its white paper in 2011 that it can be said that IoT was truly born between 2008 and 2009 as in this period, the number of people using the internet were less than the number of things connected with it. The ratio of things to people calculated by CIBSG increased from approximately 0.8 in 2003 to 1.84 in 2010. Thereafter, Cisco released a number of educational materials on IoT. It also started taking initiatives for marketing and attracting clients to adopt the technology. Later on, Ericsson and IBM joined this race with Cisco. Gartner included IoT in the Hype cycle for emerging technologies, which were on the rise in 2011. A report released by IDC in 2013 forecasted the IoT market to grow at a CAGR of 7.9% and reach $ 8.9 trillion by 2020. Infrastructure Required for IoT Hardware: The hardware requirement consists of controllers or sensors to collect data from the devices. These sensors are embedded in the objects to perform the required task. Entire IoT system needs Software: The software required in the technology are hosted on the cloud. This software is responsible for collecting the data from the sensors and controllers. It also makes a decision based on the data collected by sensors.

through routers or gateways. This step can be an intermediate step after connecting hardware in some systems. It creates a way to transfer the data to the cloud or to receive instructions from the cloud. Communication Network: A communication network develops a user interface. This is required by the user to work with the system. A real-time monitoring web-based app should be created with a dashboard to enable the user to take actions. These actions should be taken according to the data analysed by the IoT system. Technologies Supporting IoT The rapid development of the IoT industry was possible because of the progress in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Cloud Computing. AI is accumulating the bulk of data processed by the smart objects. It evaluates the data and makes it usable. Previously, the organisations were unaware about saving and processing this data. This is the reason that AI is predicted to be the leading factor to set up the growth of IoT technology. The bulk of data can be stored economically on cloud. Cloud computing is managing the flow of this data by implementing its various models and platforms. It is enhancing the efficiency of data by analysing it accurately. As the IoT devices are increasing every day, it is making the AI models complicated and heavier with a large volume of data. Big Data technology make these models easier to be managed and makes sense of the data generated in the system. Future of IoT Statista predicted that by 2025, the number of installed connected devices globally would be 75.4 billion. The figure shows that the IoT technology is still expected to reach its highest potential. It is expected to be more innovative in various domains. The trends, which can change the IoT industry drastically are 5G integration, multi-level privacy and security, single interface, and shift from products to services ecosystem. The potential of IoT is to leverage a bulk of actionable data that would automate diverse processes in all the industries.

Complete IoT system needs Connectivity: In IoT, the connection can be built between hardware and the cloud

The Best of 5 Internet Service Provider Companies

A Trendsetter in Connecting the World

I

nternet is rapidly converting from being a source of luxury to a means of necessity. Increasing need and availability for mobile applications, OTT, and gaming applications has already triggered demand for high-speed wireline broadband internet. The pandemic has brought in the cultural shift and led to a steep increase in demand of internet usage for purpose of work from home, and school from home, etc. This huge scope and unpenetrated broadband market and the experience of working in mass-market with cable TV and available infrastructure paved the way for GTPL Broadband Pvt. Ltd., to enter the internet service space. The company provides highspeed broadband internet through a fibre optic network. GTPL was incorporated in 2007. It is the 6th largest private wireline fibre broadband internet service provider in India, with a vision to provide high-speed broadband internet at affordable prices.

Please tell us about your company, its inception, its vision/ mission, and its overall journey in the arena of internet services. In August 2006, we consolidated the cable services business in Ahmedabad and Vadodara and formed GTPL. Hathway acquired a 50% share in October 2007. GTPL has grown consistently and is the second-largest multi-service operator (MSO) in India today, serving an estimated 10.8+ million households in 1000+ towns across 15 states in India with a

presence in Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Goa, Rajasthan, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Odisha, and Telangana. Currently, more than seven lac active customers across different states of India enjoy high-speed broadband internet services of GTPL Broadband. What kind of offerings do you provide to your clients? What makes your company a preferred choice

In this exclusive interview with GTPL, Mr. Aniruddhsinhji Jadeja, Managing Director of the company shares with us insights on the internet service space. Below are the highlights of the interview.

over your competitors? To cater to various requirements of the users, we offer broadband internet with different speeds starting from 40 Mbps to 1Gbps. We offer broadband internet services on a prepaid platform. The customers have the option to choose plan validity ranging from 6 months to 24 months, depending upon their requirements.

Mr. Aniruddhsinhji Jadeja Managing Director

Moreover, as a promotional offer, we provide ‘free to use router/ONT, free installation and no security deposit’ with a new broadband connection. Our wide coverage and offering of high-speed internet, as well as digital cable-TV services, makes us a preferred choice for many customers. What kind of challenges have you faced while entering the internet services space? During the initial period of operations, offtake of broadband services was limited to selected cities and premium customers due to the limitations of availability and acceptance. Customers were just getting used to using narrowband data through mobile phones as well as state-owned service providers. Fast changing technology, high infrastructure cost, and physical connectivity posed major challenges for us while making an entry into the broadband market space. The adoption of GPON technology has helped us overcome the challenge of providing high-speed unlimited internet services to our subscribers. How much was your company/business affected by the challenges imposed by the pandemic and what were the steps taken by you to curb the damages all the while helping your clients and

maintaining the safety of your employees? The year 2020-21 will forever be remembered as a period of challenges and uncertainties caused by the pandemic, which threatened mankind with a once-in-a-lifetime predicament. People were forced into isolation as quarantine was imposed on multiple

occasions. They learnt to take advantage of connectivity tools that enabled them to study and work from home, access entertainment, shop for essentials, utilise telehealth, and connect virtually with others. At GTPL Hathway, we remained committed to serving our customers by providing them entertainment and information

through our cable TV services with unlimited and uninterrupted internet connectivity through our broadband services. Since broadband service providers were categorized as ‘essential service’ providers, we worked hard to fulfill the exponential increase in demand for new subscriptions as well as to serve existing customers. We followed all Covid-19 guidelines issued by the relevant authorities and took all precautions to protect our employees during the pandemic. We encourage all our employees to get vaccinated and to continue following protocols. What would you like to advice the emerging generation of young entrepreneurs? Connectivity is a weapon to win the ‘business game’ in future. Thus, to be connected to the world, internet would be essential. We encourage young entrepreneurs to widen their horizons and grow their businesses worldwide by taking full advantage of the benefits of internet connectivity. Where do you envision your company/business to be in the long run and what are your future goals? How do you plan to embrace the changes happening in your industry?

We envisage GTPL to emerge as one of the leading broadband service providers in India over the next few quarters considering the aggressive growth plans of PAN India. Our endeavor is to provide the latest and high-quality video products and data services to our consumers. Our technologically advanced fibre optic network, strong trade partnerships, and empathetic customer service will help us in our growth. Data usage and penetration of wired broadband in India is at a mere 6% currently. Considering that there is a huge latent opportunity for internet services, GTPL Broadband is poised to expand aggressively and aims to be one of the leading broadband service providers across India. What is the current industrial scenario of the internet services space? The wired broadband penetration has seen steep growth owing to the pandemic related restrictions. As per TRAI performance indicators report released for Janury-March-2021, wired broadband has grown by 16% in the last four quarters to touch a subscriber base of 26 Mn. As compared to the total households in India, wired broadband penetration is still at a

meagre 8% presenting a huge opportunity for growth. As per the same report, the wired broadband subscriber base is at a mere 3% of the total of 825 million internet subscribers in India. While 5G for wireless mobile internet is knocking on the door, competition in wireline fibre broadband internet space is also increasing. Although, penetration of fibre broadband internet is low and an increase in competition is going to expand the overall market size. Pandemic has brought in a major shift in social and work culture and a new trend of maintaining social and physical distance is getting established, also on one end usage of high-speed broadband is continuously increasing due to OTT, e-commerce, banking, gaming, and everything from home. On the other end, new-age technology like the internet of things (IoT), smart homes, 3D plotting, or real-time streaming is gaining pace, which is good enough to prepone the demand for high-speed broadband internet. About the Leader Mr. Aniruddhsinhji Jadeja is the Managing Director of GTPL Hathway Limited with more than 25 years of hands-on experience in the cable TV and broadband internet businesses. He started his career with Maninagar Network Private Limited and founded GTPL in 2006. He has been actively driving the expansion of GTPL’s business to a Pan-India scale. He has been awarded best industrialist of Gujarat by Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Vijay Rupani. He has also been recognized as business leader of the year at the world leadership congress awards organized by CMO Asia.

How is

BENEFITTING MSMEs? I

nternet is so in trend in today’s world. It has become a basic need for people all around the world. The technology is changing every day. There is almost nothing that internet cannot do. Books are replaced by screens, socializing is done online, daily commodities are ordered online, etc. Internet is taking over the world with its benefits that suits humans. From hospitals to grocery shops, every technology works just because of the internet. As noticed, emergence in the technology led many businesses to include concepts like AI and Big data to their work cultures. It indeed proved to be a boom to the business industry. Manual work became easier, and things got convenient. One of the biggest benefits of internet is accessibility to market and bigger approach towards people. It has opened the door towards excellent innovations and concepts. The internet is a positive tool that is making businesses of all sizes stronger with every passing day. Two main parts of any business, ‘selling and marketing’ are now easier because of the involvement of internet in day-to-day life.

In this article, let us look at some of the major benefiting factors for MSMEs that flourish the businesses and help them grow. Crispier Communication The internet is necessary for making business communication simpler and shorter. The internet offers solutions to boost your daily workflow and communications. Even if it is interacting with colleagues or solving client queries, internet proves to be a helping hand in enhancing the communication. Chat services, cloud phone systems, connected calendar details with work status, and E-mails are some of the tools designed to develop business communication within and outside the company. Thanks to the high-speed Internet connection: • The in-office employees and remote teams connect seamlessly. • Daily optimization of work can be done easily. • Virtual connection made meetings crispier. • Effectiveness of messages has gotten stronger. Some of the solutions that emerged because of Internet technology are VoIP phone systems, social media platforms, teamwork hubs, or chatbots. These solutions help companies communicate and collaborate effectively, which drives businesses forward. Speedy Revolution For businesses, high-speed internet provided various benefits. The capability to upload and play music, as well as video, created a new dimension to online marketing. A company's website's capabilities were also enhanced as a result of this. A real estate agent could now load and give virtual tours; an artist could now load large graphic files; and larger media files could now be transmitted between users. Anyone could acquire a YouTube following, while a land surveyor could print detailed satellite imagery from Google Earth to make his job easier. This began with DSL, which were digital subscriber lines for high-speed access over a phone line, allowing speeds to increase, and then with fiberoptic cable connections, allowing speeds to climb again.

search you will find a general information, paperwork, and anything you need. In matter of mere seconds, you can find your competitors, locate the potential clients for the business, and even get important data necessary for the business. Although, there are credible and non-credible sites available on internet but, a tech-savvy entrepreneur will always find a difference between these two sources. Mobile Internet Access Mobile internet added yet another internet component and business benefit. Business users can retrieve potential clients from the mobile gadgets 24/7. Mobile incorporation with local business records and map services enables location-based business models. These features can be used by the company to attract clients to the owner's doorstep. This is especially useful when a business does not have a location on a major intersection. They can still reach out to the audience, make their location easy to find, and gain favourable feedback by putting on a good show. Advantages of Social Media For businesses, the advantages of social media are numerous. Some businesses rely entirely on social media to expand their customer base. Followers are frequently the focus of social media networks. Once you have built up a loyal following, your company can focus on keeping them engaged while providing new products and services. Having a quick access to the audience directly is a huge success. Social media building does not need much capital. Putting in an honest effort and giving exact content related to your business is exceptionally helpful to get more customers. The mindboggling algorithms of internet do help businesses attract customer to their social media platforms. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and YouTube are some of the major game changing factors when it comes to business. Minor, small, and big, every business is a success with internet on its side. - Sayali Sangewar

he COVID-19 pandemic brought all the sectors in the world to their knees. But telecom industry was the one that saw a rapid growth during the pandemic. People started using internet to a great extent from home for work, entertainment, education, and other activities. According to Mint, in India, there was a rise of 25-30% in data consumptionin 2020. The new record in data consumption was set that surged to 11 GB per user per month. This rise in data consumption demanded the telecom industry to work faster and efficiently to meet the needs of customer. Handling this vast usage of data became a challenge for the telecom sector. Many internet service providers worked harder and accepted the challenge for a better tomorrow and provided best solutions. SpiderLink Networks is one such leading internet service provider, which ensured that the company provided best services to its clients, keeping the client’s and its employees’ safety at priority. The company provides customized software solutions to its clients. The solutions provided are best in quality, functionality, and are affordable. It delivers all the hardware and software solutions at one-place. ‘The Best Things in Life Aren’t Planned, They Simply Just...Happen’

Struggle of the Leader When I was working as Business Head with Big ISP in Rajasthan and one fine day, the company decided to close its business due to finance crunch in other group company. The employees, who were not paid for several months, ended up with all savings. But they still took a courage to serve the existing customers by any means. Since the motive was good, God also helped us to serve those customers from pure wireless to complete FTTH model on time.

SpiderLink’s Philosophy The core working of the company revolves around 4As, which are as follows: Availability of the Networks Adaptability to match customer expectation with required change in conditions Acceptability to match client’s service uptime expectation Affordability for their customers, so it should fit their budget.

management in various industries, which include life sciences, IT, ITeS, telecom, industrial, paper and packaging, and consumer goods. He became the first-generation entrepreneur in 2013 and incorporated his own company by the name of SpiderLink Networks. The key skill set Sachin holds include a combination of business advisory, strategy consulting, implementation, and transaction processes to ensure successful startup operations in India. Channel sales, key account management, direct team management, budgeting and planning, strong analytic and leadership are his foremost skills. An Idealistic Approach Working with telecom in mobility, the team of SpiderLink Networks realized that a shift is happening from voice to data in 2011 and being visionary, they could imagine the market potential vs offerings available. Since the availability of broadband was primarily with 1-2 operators only, which was on copper wire. So, scope was infinite looking at the fixed broadband penetration, which is even 7.5% as on date. The team’s previous experience of working in great companies has taught them so much that they could make the offerings differently in the market and make SpiderLink stand out as a different player. Major market of SME is not solution driven rather depending on various vendors for e.g.,they have different vendor for PBX, CCTV, networking, and cloud etc. Under the banner of SpiderLink, all the offerings are clubbed under one roof and one-stop solutions are given for all IT and allied services. The clients of SpiderLink Networks have appreciated the same as now they just have to connect to one company and all things are simplified. It has helped the company to secure different positioning and standout from the competition. It was understood earlier that offering Telco services is very high capital-intensive industry but with customized and inhouse research solutions, the company could start and take off its business with very low-cost model in both, CAPEX as well in OPEX.

A Battle with COVID-19 Pandemic Since the pandemic has made a complete shift from work from office to work from home, people who used to consume some 100 GB data per month started consuming 5-10 times of it. SpiderLink’s servers and networks were over utilized like other Telecom companies and upgrade was a big challenge as they had limited availability of equipment.
