THE EVOLUTION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES!
any persons should be recognised for their contributions to the traditional invention of Electric Vehicles. In 1828, Anyos Jedlik created the first small electric car by building an electric motor. Between 1832 and 1839, a Scottish inventor named Robert Anderson created a crude electric vehicle. The first electric vehicle was a three-wheeler dubbed VIKRAM SAFA, which was created by Scooter's India Pvt Ltd in 1996. A total of 400 automobiles were built and sold. In the year 2000, BHEL released an eighteen-seater electric bus, which was also a hit. Then, in Delhi, some 200 electric vehicles were built and operated. However, because of the expensive cost of the battery and its short life, it did not fare well on the market. Electric cars first appeared in the nineteenth century. They did not fare well on the market previously because to their expensive cost, limited speed, and short range. As a result, demand initially fell over the world. They have, however, been utilised for transportation and public transit, particularly in the form of rail vehicles.

The concern for the atmosphere skyrocketed in the 21st century as gas-powered cars create a lot of smoke and are extremely hazardous to the atmosphere. This is one of the main reasons that has intensified the concern for the environment. As a result, interest in electric vehicles has grown. Electric vehicles were popular among those who drove them in cities, where their limited range was not an issue. Another factor that contributed to its success was the fact that it did not need changing gears, making it a simple alternative. It didn't have any vibrations or sounds. It didn't need to be started manually, which was also a positive. Electric vehicle uptake has been limited by a lack of power infrastructure. An exchangeable battery service was initially proposed in 1896 in order to address the restricted operational range of electric vehicles and the absence of recharging infrastructure. Fast forwarding to 2021 and 2022, when firms are hustling to produce inexpensive electric vehicles, with the goal of dispelling the myth that electric automobiles are too expensive. Some EV Solution providers are aiming to make
electric vehicles more accessible for everyone. They specialise in automobiles as well as other items including electric LCVs, electric bikes, and electric three-wheelers. Realising this, EV Solutions provider in India are all set to deliver best and quality services to the clientele and create an impact on the world. The Industry Veteran and the Dynamic Leader Mr Vinit Bansal is the Founder and Managing Director of EV Motors India Pvt. Ltd. (“EVM”) with over 30 years of experience in automotive, energy, private equity, and management consulting business. In 2015, Vinit Bansal came to realise that India is grappling with two challenges: 1. The top 20 Indian cities are also the most polluted in the world. 2. Indian imports of crude oil were increasing significantly, which was affecting foreign exchange reserves. Then, the Government of India announced the Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) policy to promote electric vehicles.
His vision is to establish an e-mobility eco-system in India that includes the development of a national network of charging infrastructure under the brand name ‘PlugNgo’ Battery manufacturing and to provide Energy as a Service. He believes renewable energy will also be an integral part of this ecosystem and his endeavour is to create a commercially feasible solution while addressing local challenges. Prior to founding EVM, Vinit Bansal successfully launched various vehicle programs in the US, Canada and South America for Ford Motor Company and led their corporate manufacturing strategy being located at their world headquarters. In 1994, he led the activities of Delphi Automotive Systems to establish a presence in India and build multiple manufacturing plants for multiple product lines. In early 2000, he also set up the first automotive Special Purpose Acquisition Corporation (SPAC) that included India as a focused country for investment in the automotive component sector. He has experience in the Energy Industry manufacturing Diesel Generators at Caterpillar India and designing Nuclear Power Plants with Sargent & Lundy, a Chicago-based consulting firm.
As a Ford representative on the Partnership of Next Generation Vehicles (PNGV) – a joint initiative between Ford, GM, Chrysler, and Department of Energy of the Government of United States, he worked on technologies related to the production of fuel cells, flywheels, turbines, and battery technologies for promoting alternate energy vehicles. Engineering from Michigan Technology University, USA. He further went on to complete his master’s in business administration from the University of Michigan, USA. Enduring Hardships There has been multitude of challenges that the team of EV Motors faced and continue to face. Starting with policies that government was adopting while EVM was actively involved in providing inputs towards the policy making process. “In order to zero-in on the business model and the technology solutions we want to focus upon, we had to understand the market dynamics, government policies, competitive landscape, technology capability, and innovation requirement to build the necessary business model,” added the team over at EVM. Additionally, access to capital has been challenging as the financial community has been waiting and watching the market evolve before investing. However, things have evolved now and there are several strategic & financial investors who are keen to invest in EV space. Then the pandemic rolled around and further weakened the situation. Lockdowns, challenges in adjusting to the workfrom-home model were other major concerns that resulted in the delay of projects. The delay in projects and limitations in access to capital led to a reduction in the staff and scaling down the growth plans. Even while suffering through these hardships, the team of EVM supported their customer base and tried to keep the customers happy. Awards and Accolades • Mr Vinit Bansal (Managing Director, EV Motors) received an award for the ‘Most Impactful Smart City Leaders’ from the Mayor of a smart city in the Philippines. • Mr Vinit Bansal received an award for the ‘Outstanding Global Leadership Award 2019’ at Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia. • PlugNgo (EV Motors India) won Frost and Sullivan 2019 – Indian EV Charging Network Industry Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award. This prestigious recognition is based on the extensive Frost & Sullivan analysis of the Intelligent Mobility Industry.
To Infinity and Beyond When asked about what advice would he like to give to the new generation of entrepreneurs and enthusiasts venturing in the electric vehicle space, Mr Vinit Bansal said, “This is one of the rare instances where India has an opportunity to be in the forefront on technology development and address the global needs and requirements. I would like to advise the young individuals to think innovative technology solutions that would help resolve business and industry pain points, not only from a domestic perspective but from a global outlook.” “It is the greatest opportunity for young individuals who need to think about becoming global players,” added the astute founder. Today, the key thing that EV Motors is envisioning for its business is the ability to work on technologies and solutions that would address the needs of the industry and help the faster adoption of EVs market penetration. Future Goals EV Motors plans to develop its team capable of continuously working on innovative technology solutions that helps company to achieve sustainability and scalability. “Embrace the Change - Being Proactive, Being Patient and Being Innovative,” concluded the dashing Founder and Managing Director – Mr Vinit Bansal.

EVRE G
oing green and sustainable is not a choice anymore. It is the only guarantee that we will see a better future.
As per the USA's Environmental Protection Energy (EPA), a typical passenger vehicle like a car emits up to 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide CO2 annually. In addition, it also produces methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O). CH4 and N2O have a higher potential for global warming than Co2. In contrast, an automobile exclusively operating on electricity (an electric vehicle or EV) will not emit any of these dangerous gases in our atmosphere, helping it heal itself from pollution. Due to this factor and the continuously rising fuel prices, people prefer EVs more and more. A major factor in discouraging them from buying an EV is charging infrastructure or charging stations. But now, they need not have to worry. As herein comes EVRE that provides sustainable EV charging infrastructure across cities. It is smart, convenient, and connected. It ensures a seamless experience for the consumer. It makes the switch from a polluting vehicle to a clean and green vehicle easy. EVRE further integrates renewable energy resources into its charging stations, making the infrastructure completely sustainable. On our quest to find out 'The Most Promising Electric Vehicle Solution Provider,' luckily, we came across Mr. Krishna Jasti, Founder and CEO of EVRE. And in an exclusive interview
A Sustainable Future of Mobility
with Insights Success, he was very enthusiastic discussing his venture and this cleaner and greener future led by the Electric Vehicle industry. Below are the highlights of that interview.
Please breif us about EVRE. EVRE designs, develops, and manufactures EV charging stations that are amongst the most advanced globally, with a technology that we have patented. EVRE also creates charging infrastructure for fleets, enabling them to shift to EVs and for occupants of gated communities and at workplaces. What made you venture into the Electric Vehicle Solution Space? All of us want to make our Earth a better, cleaner place. Our bet was to create sustainability in mobility to achieve this. We felt that there was a severe lack of innovation in the EV charging space. Also, most of these charging stations globally were sourced from China. We wanted to change the status quo. What kind of offerings do you provide to your clients? EVRE manufactures EV charging stations that can be bought by builders, societies, companies, charge point operators, and PSUs. We have sold hundreds of charging stations in India and West Africa, including IOCL. EVRE also creates charging infrastructure for fleets. We currently support fourteen fleet customers across twelve cities, charging over 1,000 EVs every day. Our residential charging infrastructure is a game-changer by enabling 16 | January 2022 | www.insightssuccess.in
occupants of an apartment to charge their vehicle in their building with zero CAPEX. What kind of challenges have you faced while entering the Electric Vehicle Solution Space? EVRE was incorporated in 2017, much before the Indian government pushed for EVs. We had to wait for over three years to build some traction. However, we were able to use that time to build technology. How was EVRE affected in these pandemic times, and what were the steps you took to curb the damages while helping your clients and maintaining the safety of your employees? As our business is operationally intense and most of our customers were fleets that were allowed to operate at all times, the pandemic did throw a few challenges at us. We had to create a robust infrastructure with minimal failures to prevent our team from going on to the field. We used the lockdown to strengthen our strategy and keep the team motivated to achieve bigger things. What would you like to advise the young generation of entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who want to venture into the Electric Vehicle Solutions Space? The EV space in India today is extremely competitive. It is especially important to have a very clear vision and create an irreplaceable value-add for the customer to be able to succeed. Where do you envision EVRE to be in the long run, and what are your future goals? How do you plan to embrace the changes happening in
The Most Promising Electric Vehicle Solu on Provider
Our vision is to enable sustainable mobility globally. What is the current industrial scenario of the Electric Vehicle Solution Space? Today seeing an EV on the road is a common experience. The rate of adaption for EVs is accelerating at a rapid pace. There is going to be a huge shift in consumer behaviour, driving habits, and support services, thus enabling infinite new opportunities. Please provide your views on – How will switching towards sustainable resources will help the planet? We have ill-treated our planet for too long. The recent forest fires and extreme weather are proof of this and reason enough for us to think of a solution for what could possibly be our last chance. It is time for us to respect nature, and one way of doing it is by reducing pollution wherever possible. Some of the most important areas to reduce pollution are power generation and transportation, and these can be easily done by solutions that already exist. All that is required is a change in our mindset.
An Inspiring Leader Krishna Jasti is an automotive enthusiast and a proponent of electrified mobility with a master's degree in Electric Vehicle Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit. He was amongst the first engineers at Audi to have worked on the Audi A3 e-Tron BEV and PHEV in Germany and USA and on the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

your industry? The EV industry is very dynamic, and technology improvements can happen much quicker than anticipated. We focus on continuous product development that enables us to be on par with where the industry may be heading.
Krishna's strength and experience lie in the design, development and testing of electrified powertrain and EV charging stations. He is passionate about everything related to Automobiles, and he has a keen interest in solving key existing problems. He firmly believes the future of mobility is all about vehicles that are electric, connected, and autonomous.
The most important aspect is to use a form of energy that is the least polluting. This could be solar, wind or hydro, or a combination of them, considering the limitations each one has. Once energy generation is sustainable, we will see a drastic decrease in pollution. Even if one does not believe in global warming, a cleaner planet will at least enable them to enjoy the air once they step out of their house.

T
he commencement of Electric vehicles happened in the early 19th century. In its initial state, it failed to accumulate market insights due to its high cost, low speed, and short range, resulting in a decline in global demand. However, because of their convenient nature, electric vehicles were driving the public and transportation space. As the concern for sustainable transportation utilities experience a rise with experiencing inflation in alternative energy sources, the interest in electric vehicles went on increasing. Fast forward to 2022, the electric vehicle industry is experiencing an immense thrust and companies in this space are aggressively working towards manufacturing sustainable solutions to drive reliability in this space. Innovative solutions like rapid charging stations, lightweight, and long-lasting batteries are on the rise. Some companies are working to develop the essential infrastructure required for the growth of the EV industry. This is where SemaConnect comes into the picture.

the business for the long haul using sound business principles and pricing strategies while using an integrated hardware and software approach to the business.
Mahi started SemaConnect in late 2008/09 as he saw the future of transportation moving to clean energy and electric vehicles.
What kind of challenges has Mahi faced while commencing his professional journey in the Electric Vehicle Solution Space?
As one of the pioneers in this space, Mahi has seen the growth and evolution of the EV industry in technology, standards and share of the market.
Any entrepreneurial entry into a business especially a new area is challenging. In the beginning, the lack of any standards across the world was a huge challenge as different OEMs had their standards. The price of batteries and hence of vehicles was also hampering the growth of the industry.
What made Mahi Reddy venture into the Electric Vehicle Solution Space? Early visibility into the future of the automotive industry through industry veterans in Detroit and the larger United States transportation industry gave Mahi a view into the future. As a seasoned entrepreneur, Mahi also had the wisdom to enter the space early and take a cautious approach to build
In India, the lack of a good standard especially for two and three-wheelers continues to be a challenge. An increase in the number of models for four-wheelers to be available for sale is also an impediment. While the government has made some good policies like the FAME II scheme

and the reduction in GST as well as the removal of road tax in many states – we now need the industry to stand up and deliver in the form of new and innovative products and for consumer adoption to pick up. What kind of offerings does SemaConnect provide to its clients? SemaConnect provides a wide variety of AC chargers in the US Market – from 7.2kW to 19.2kW with assorted products catering to different market segments including home chargers, commercial chargers, fleet market chargers. In 2022, SemaConnect will also launch its range of DC chargers in the US Market. In India, we are currently limiting ourselves to one version of the 7.2kW charger called the Series 7. This is a dual plug charger capable of charging two cars at the same time. We are also launching a new product in Q2 of 2022 (CY) for the Indian market. This will be a two-wheeler charging solution.
How was SemaConnect affected in these pandemic times and what were the steps taken by you to curb the damages while helping your clients and maintaining the safety of your employees? The pandemic did have a significant impact on business especially in terms of supply-side challenges in parts and the bug uptick in commodity costs. The slowdown in shipping has had a substantial impact as well. In India, for R&D there was an enormous impact as a couple of months of work from home is not that easy for an R&D outfit that needs to evaluate the components and assemblies – activities that cannot be executed from home.
On the sales side, the India business was impacted as we were just trying to start the business and the WFH for all our potential clients on the corporate side did impact things.
Where do you envision SemaConnect eventually, and what are your future goals? How do you plan to embrace the changes happening in the EV industry?
What would you like to advise the young generation of entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who want to venture into the Electric Vehicle Solutions Space?
We have a clearcut vision to be a leader in the EV Charging Infra space and provide holistic, integrated solutions to our clients.
Be sure of what you want to do and your approach to the business – this is going to be a big market so we are sure that a lot of people will enter the space. Entrepreneurs need to be sure of the business model that they want to adopt and play the long game.

For this, we will need to keep investing in R&D and technology – keep scaling the sales side as well as ramping the product portfolio to keep offering value to our customers.

he electric mobility sector in India is organised by the availability of Electric Vehicles (EVs) on the supply side and the adaption of new trends on the demand side. But what is the key fundamental required to boost the adaptation of EVs in India?
As the EVs carry limited energy onboard in the stock battery packs, which requires charging from time to time, reliable charging systems are therefore essential to enhance the
stability of EVs. Precise and integrated charging infrastructure is the necessity to drive the growth of EV adoption to its bigger picture. Additionally, the charging requirement not only depends on the regular use of these vehicles but also on the regular utilities, including transport, passenger, and commercial electric batterypowered vehicles. Companies in India are actively analysing many opportunities in the

the Netherlands, and plans to expand globally and transition towards sustainable energy form. Our main aim is to promote sustainable mobility across India by developing an enhanced ecosystem with the foundations of cutting-edge technology, data-driven management, and easy accessibility. Through our services, we are trying to solve various problems faced by EV users like reliable charging experience, accessibility to charging infrastructure, and fragmented charging networks. The continuous efforts by Statiq is contributing towards reducing the carbon footprint. What made you indulge professionally in the Electric Vehicle Solution Space? I was a part of the solar vehicle team in my college, and my in-depth knowledge of electrical engineering and interest in the energy sector made me explore the EV space. I firmly believe in the concept of
State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd, and others. We offer mobile app, chargers, and charging station management system. The products offered include the following:
I specifically ventured into the EV charging infrastructure space because infrastructure is a big problem in a country like India, and according to research and analysis, there is a need for one public charger per eight cars. I believe that selling these eight cars is easier in comparison to setting up the infrastructure, which is the most common challenge in the EV landscape. Infrastructure was nonexistent when Raghav and I ventured into this space. What were the challenges Statiq had to transcend while venturing into the EV solution space? Since Statiq is into EV charging infrastructure space, when we started, we faced many challenges, including the high cost of chargers. Since chargers mainly were imported (from China, Germany) and were not being manufactured locally, the cost was very high, and in the case of chargers being imported from China,

How was Statiq affected in these pandemic times, and what were the steps you took to curb the damages while helping your clients and maintaining the safety of your employees? Since we deal with sustainable mobility, our business depends on people and their travel. With this pandemic, the growth in this sector is slower than expected in the short run. But on the other hand, with the support and positive outlook of authorities involved and with people becoming more climate-conscious, the long-term growth plan seems positive. During these tough times, we consistently delivered our commitments on time and supported the Statiq family (client and our employees) in the best way possible. We ensured the Statiq family had access to the best healthcare possible and transitioned to the work-fromhome environment for their safety.

What would you like to advice the young generation of entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who want to venture into the Electric Vehicle Solutions Space? By Akshit: Currently, people are mostly looking at building vehicles. In my view, the young generation of entrepreneurs and enthusiasts should investigate ancillary services for EVs as there will be a big market going forward. Additionally, another area that can be explored by young entrepreneurs is component-wise manufacturing. This is currently untapped and will be easier to explore as people will not have to compete with big players in the market like TATA, MG, and others. By Raghav: Adding to that, my advice to the young generation of entrepreneurs and enthusiasts is, it is important to fail and learn from those failures and keep moving forward. What is the current industrial scenario of the Electric Vehicle Solution Space?
Currently, India is committed to its 2030 EV ambition, and according to a study, India would require a support infrastructure of '2.9' million public charging points and an investment worth over USD 180 billion to meet its 2030 vision.
Few policies that will enable start-up innovation include R&D and skill development support shared manufacturing and plug-and-play facilities, access to financing, singlewindow clearances, and streamlined processes.
As per Central Electricity Authority, there were 927 public charging stations in India as of 30th June 2020. Additionally, the government of India has sanctioned 2,877 stations under FAME II with the target of pan-India coverage, and there is a long way to go to meet India's 2030 ambition.
Where do you envision Statiq eventually, and what are your future goals? How do you plan to embrace the changes happening in Electric Vehicle Solutions Space?
According to a study, more than 100 start-ups are working in the charging infrastructure domain across the entire country. These start-ups include EV charger manufacturers, service operators, charging networks, and solutions providers. Despite a lot of support from the central, state governments and various policies being introduced, the sector faces many risks and challenges, including political risk, financial risk, supply-chain risk, and others.
Our main aim at Statiq is to push India towards sustainable mobility. Our future goals include accelerating sustainable mobility through wireless charging, battery swapping, integration with solar, off-grid solar installations, and deep-diving into hydrogen as the new fuel. Since we are a tech company, we build the entire ecosystem in-house, which includes both the software and hardware. At Statiq we are continuously innovating and making sure we are up to date with the R&D. Most importantly, we have assembled a team capable of making the change happen.

The Encounters in Initial Stage · · · · · ·
High initial cost. No proper EV state policies. Insufficient policies and subsidies for charging infrastructure. Existing EV ecosystem in India and investment outlook. Poor charging infrastructure. Inadequate power supply in remote areas.
Surmounting the effects of the Pandemic (2020-2021) has not been a bad year for SLS. The business was the same as any other year and Verde had a fast recovery from manufacturing in India. All thanks to the Make-In-India initiative by the Indian Government. Though 2020 was a difficult year across all the sectors, it was also a year of opportunities. System Level Solutions developed and launched many COVID-19 products. Innovations for the Future The future of mobility is in your hands, and to adapt and embrace the emergence of a better ecosystem, one needs to be equipped with in-depth knowledge of the diverse types of EV accessories and EV chargers. The team at SLS has been working for years to make this possible and to give the consumers nothing but the finest products ever. VerdeMobility is here to solve big problems in business, focus on the big challenges and find unique commercially successful models to scale it up. As far as their future goal is concerned, they are already on the path where they envision themselves as a key player in the EV market and their aim is to become a premium manufacturing hub for EV charging stations in India. The Electric Vehicle industry in India has started picking up the pace, new manufacturing hubs, and an increased push to improving charging infrastructure has been the major goal for any EV company. VerdeMobility believes that EV is the new future and not be something of a luxury, but it would be something necessary for survival because the pollution level is alarming, and the only solution is the green sources and transmission of energy. Hence, EVs are inevitable when it comes down to efficiency, so it is better to plan and organize how the developments are going to occur rather than dodging the change.

flourishing and growing. The credit goes to the entrepreneurs of India, who, in the tough times, lead their businesses to develop in these troubled times. Journey of Indian entrepreneurs over the years India is different in various ways, political, geographical, cultural, mythological, etc. In every way, India stands out in the world. India is a country that adopted many cultures; despite having national boundaries, India has state boundaries, uniting different cultures, etc., under one nation. The family business system is still popular and in use in India. This had to change when India opened the door of its market to the world. However, some family businesses adapted to the change and thrived. With start-ups and changes in the market, India gave the key to development to the young entrepreneurs of India. Over the years, Indians have seen many entrepreneurs; some of them even changed the ways of business for India. However, in the 1980s, the number of companies registered under the new company registration was 15,000. Whereas, after 1992, India saw a hike in companies, and by 2010 companies registered every year went up to 1,00,000. These are huge numbers, and all credit goes to the individuals who took risks to make their business big. How start-ups boosted entrepreneurship in India In their early stages, the obstacle that many businesses must have tackled was capital. It was due to India's low per capita income compared to other countries. Since 1992, when Indian markets were open to all and the Start-
ups India initiative in 2016 made business operating much easier. Entrepreneurship flourished in such a balanced environment which provided capital for the business idea that would generate more profit. Another problem entrepreneurs faced before start-ups were the education system and family backgrounds. Indians were more focused on bagging a high-income job to secure the future. This restricted the movement and courage of entrepreneurs, who today would risk it all to make it big. The Indian education system also stood as an obstacle because it was more theoretical rather than practical. This was much overtaken as the ideas got a base and support from investors. Startups gave the boost that business ventures needed. Entrepreneurs changing productbased market to customer-based market Earlier India was a product-based market. India only sold what was produced but not what was needed by the customers. This slowly changed with the arrival of Start-ups and when investors came into the picture. The market shift that changed from product-based to customer-based is a result of entrepreneurs' innovative and critical thinking. Rather than selling what can be produced, the market changed to selling what is required and needed to the customer. Start-ups triggered this process as they provided the entrepreneurs a base that projected not only growth but also innovation. This boosted the economy of India, and now start-ups are an important part of India's economic revival.
In tough times lies opportunities to seize It is always the tough times where lies the best opportunity for growth. This has been beautifully portrayed in the current pandemic situation. When the whole world was under lockdown, struggling to get their daily needs from the market, it was the start-ups of India led by passionate entrepreneurs that not only met the market's needs but also took their ventures to new heights. Innovation and technology also played a very essential role in this; giving them the base for conducting business and the start-up ideas that rushed in made all the difference. From meeting medical needs for the suffering people to making tough times easier, start-ups and entrepreneurs balanced the whole countries weight on their worthy shoulders. Tough times like these test the ideation and persistence of the business idea and the leadership qualities of an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are the silver lining of the start-up industry Entrepreneurs must deal with selfdoubt, business working, planning, implementation, and many other things. Believing that the idea will succeed does half the work done for an entrepreneur. However, many start-ups have failed in their very first year. Entrepreneurs made up the industry that we know today despite constant failure. Start-ups boosted entrepreneurship in many ways, but these entrepreneurs' growth to the stats is simply incredible. Start-ups are the base where entrepreneurs can try, fail, try harder, fail harder and succeed, making their idea a reality for the world. -Ashlesh Khadse

In 2016 ‘Zeon Cinemas Pvt Ltd’ (ZCPL) was incorporated to build Multiplexes (Cinema halls). The first Multiplex was opened in 2018 in Gobichetipalayam. Since then, it has become a landmark property in the district. ZCPL is headed by MS Senthil Kumar (Co-founder of Zeon International), whose family has been in the Tamil cinema industry for over 40 years. Zeon Charging was started in 2019 to invest in the evolving electric vehicle ecosystem. As passionate electric car owners and enthusiasts ourselves, since 2017, we have driven over 1,00,000 Kms collectively till 2020. This experience of being an electric car owner has given us great insights into the electric vehicle ecosystem. Zeon Charging is building the infrastructure needed to enable the EV Revolution in India. We are installing electric vehicle chargers at convenient locations throughout the nation. It would enable EV owners to travel long distances without worrying about running out of charge.
nations. However, it was not happening in India as everywhere else. And most of the vehicle OEMs were sitting the lack of charging infrastructure as the reason for not launching EVs in India. This made us think long and hard about the charging infrastructural space. We wanted to convert the problem of lack of charging infrastructure into an opportunity. After extensive research, we figured out how our idea could be executed. And the funding required to make a start was something that we could muster internally. What kind of offerings do you provide to your clients? We provide our customers the ability to fast charge their electric vehicles. It enables them to travel long distances using their EVs. What kind of challenges have you faced while entering the Electric Vehicle Solution Space?
What made you venture into the Electric Vehicle Solution Space?
This is a venture that has no precedent in India or most other countries. So, most of the things we had to figure out by ourselves. It was tough to convince property owners to give us the space to set up an EV charging station. Most of them had no awareness about the existence of EVs. Therefore, they were very skeptical about our proposal. Even when they agreed to give us the space, there had to be enough electrical power available.
As passionate electric vehicle owners for a long time, we were anxious to see the EV revolution take off in India. It is also happening in countries like China, the USA, and western European

also a challenge. DC chargers do not function outside the optimal voltage range. After all of this, we have to keep in mind that the number of EVs in the market is too small at the moment to make this a financially viable venture. However, we needed to have the charging stations in place to encourage EV adoption. We believe we are about two to three years away before the market gets large enough to make the investments viable. What would be your advice to the young generation of entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who want to venture into the Electric Vehicle Solutions Space? The EV charging infrastructure is about getting things done on the ground. It is about execution, which involves a lot of stakeholders. Moreover, this is a service industry, which requires a lot of attention from customers. Focusing on customer experience is very important. Where do you envision Zeon Charging to be in the long run, and what are your future goals? How do you plan to embrace the changes happening in the industry? Our mission is to promote sustainable mobility. Therefore, we are not just about embracing change, but we are leading the change in the mobility industry. In the short term, the charging infra that we are creating will give the confidence to customers to choose EVs over ICE options. In the long time, we aspire to become the most comprehensive and a very reliable EV charging network, which would power the automobiles of the future.
