Making Sense Bread & Circus branding ideas

route one

This sophisticated and upmarket logo brings together a feeling of heritage and wit. The classical typeface used for the logotype points to the genealogy of the brand name, whilst using a modern secondary typeface will ensure a contemporary edge. Combining the illustrations of the elephant and the wheat brings an understated humour to the brand, reflecting the name whilst giving us a mark that can stand alone without the type. This illustration style could extend to feature throughout brand collateral - from menus to packaging, creating a very strong, consistent look. The delicate nature of the illustrations fit well with the desire for a light and airy feel, reiterated by the natural, ethereal colour palette.

LOGO ALTERNATIVES

1. The elephant holding the wheat can be used as a standalone identifying mark.

2. Alternatively the elephant could sit on the ‘&’. If we are to continue with this design, the elephant could be illustrated in such a way as to mimic the classic pose of a circus elephant balancing on a ball on top of the ampersand.

BRAND ASSETS AND APPLICATION 1. This very natural, light palette brings the desired ethereal feel to the brand, without feeling remotely clinical.

2. The illustration style lends itself brilliantly to foods. These botanical etchings of ingredients promotes the importance of fresh flavours and high quality ingredients used in Bread & Circus’ meals.

3. Bringing in a clean, modern secondary typeface ensures that the brand has a contemporary feel too.

route two

This logo brings a modern, friendly monochromatic approach to the Bread and Circus brand. Overlaying the logo onto natural, well lit, mouth watering imagery creates great stand-out, allowing the colours and textures to shine through. The font used is very modern, fresh and contemporary, achieving a sense of warmth and friendliness - despite the lack of colour. Paired with this, the loaf of bread mark brings an understated link to the food, without working too hard - a nudge in the right direction rather than screaming at passers by. The imagery behind the logo brings great flexibility - raw ingredients focus on the freshness (especially when used seasonally). Using fresh ingredients also allows for imagination and creativity rather than pigeon-holing bread and circus into a certain dish in a customer’s mind. The monochromatic nature of the logo ensures that it can actually be used over almost any image for example Roman etchings - linking back to the genealogy of the name. Overall this logo is a very contemporary, friendly and inviting mark that has a lot of scope thanks to the supporting imagery used throughout.

BRAND ASSETS

1. The logo could also be reversed to appear with a black background. This isn’t quite so light and airy, but does give flexibility to the brand, especially on a white page that needs some stand-out.

2. Background imagery should not be limited to photography - the possibilities are endless thanks to the monochrome nature of the logo. The consistency of the logo means that the design of the restaurant and brand collateral can be very flexible.

LOGO IN USE

1. Purely monochromatic colour scheme allows beautifully shot photographs to shine through - colours would be lost and not do the images justice. The monochromatic approach brings the perfect balance whilst remaining fresh and light.

route three

This logo brings an authentic and traditional feel. Also thanks to the distinctive mark you will also be easily distinguished from your local competitors. The branding works great black & white as well as positioned within a grainy black & white photograph & combined with a vibrant colour. The use of photography is perfect for setting the right tone & atmosphere. As with previous brands imagery behind the logo brings great flexibility giving you the perfect opportunity to adjust the look, feel & atmosphere depending on the context providing you the scope to expand your menus or even to represent future locations. By updating the imagery behind the brand you will also be able to keep the brand feeling fresh and new while still remaining familiar to repeat customers. The font used is bold and modern, creating a brand that is proud and doesn’t shy away, this is a brand that wants to be seen. The graphic mark is a clever combination of an easily recognisable symbol of a circus tent cut out of a loaf of bread.

STRAP LINE

1. The branding has also been designed with a strap line in mind and also works great over a solid colour background.
