Making Sense Icon Portsmouth Hotel



route one

Route one is an evolution and coming together of the current Aubrey Park and Humber Royal websites. Considering the feedback regarding both sites, we have brought stronger hierarchy and breathing space to the site. This results in a more straight forward viewing and booking process. The Primary navigation now sits together with the logo, in a similar style to the Humber Royal website, resulting in a more streamlined approach. A secondary navigation works to display the detailed content of the site in bite-sized chunks. This ensures that users aren’t overwhelmed with information, whilst the design remains clear and uncluttered. Larger, clearer headings direct users attention throughout the site, whilst giving the type more breathing room results in a clearer, more considered design. The white background opens up the site, bringing a calm platform to frame the site. This matched with the full width photography brings a very sophisticated, modern, direct approach to the site design.




HOME 1. A clearer, more streamlined navigation with larger type ensures that the navigation is not lost amongst the header area.

2. Larger headers bring a clearer hierarchy to the page.

3. Secondary navigation breaks down the information into more digestible pieces of information.

4. Introductory paragraphs with larger type draws the users eye to the content, engaging them with the information before going on to read the remaining text.



ACCOMMODATION

1. The hotel phone number, weather forecast and links to other contact methods appear on all pages.

2. Functioning in the same way as Aubrey Park, the booking form always remains in the same place in the browser. This is a vital spot for the booking form (top, left).

3. Photos are displayed as thumbnails - attached to a lightbox for users to view the images at full size for a more detailed observation.



ACCOMMODATION LIGHTBOX 1. A full screen lightbox gives great impact - a confident display of the quality of the hotel.



THE ICON COMMITMENT

1. The icon commitment page brings all of the hotels together as a brand, with the same mission, vision and values.

Route two is much more of a revolutionary site design, a forward thinking approach that sets Icon Hotels apart from the competition. The strong, image led direction showcases the hotel, whilst the strong structure of the site and interactivity allows all the supporting information to appear at the wave of a mouse. The inclusion of lime green as a highlight colour brings vibrancy and vitality, lifting the brand and bringing the site to life. This conveys the hotel as an environment people will want to experience - a buzz, with plenty of life and interaction with staff and guests alike. An icon set has been created to direct and inform users through the site. This can follow into the hotel way-finding too. These icons are very clean and light in keeping with the rest of the design, whilst also bringing character into the site. The heroes of the site are the images, showcasing the hotel and Portsmouth as a very desirable destination. This allows users to really get a feel for the hotel to base their decisions on - and choose Portsmouth Hotel as their accommodation.




HOMEPAGE 1. N avigation bar has very clear standout, overlaying the image so that we give the image more space without the user having to scroll too far down the page for information. 2. Lime green really lifts the site, bring a lot more vitality to the brand.

3. A n icon set has been designed to aid navigation throughout the site as well as bringing strong character and graphical language to the site.

4. U sers can use the secondary navigation to bring the desired information into view. This would negate the need to scroll a long way down the page to find information. It does however still allow users to scroll down the site if this is the way they want to explore the site.



HOMEPAGE

1. T he sticky header ensures that the booking form always remains at the top of the page, whilst allowing us to use the full width of the page to display the information in a more engaging, dynamic way.

2. I nformation is set out in very clear sections, with the use of imagery and iconography to tell the story.

3. T he lime green is used as a highlight colour to display the most important pieces of information. The brown is used as the primary colour.

1. I cons act as signposts throughout the site - whether information regards events, offers or testimonials.

2. O n focus further details are revealed. This means that the design of the site remains uncluttered and image led, but all of the information is on hand when needed.

3. L arge, attention grabbing testimonials really convey the quality of the hotel. This brings a very modern, stylistic approach which users can easily engage with.



ACCOMMODATION

1. Once again, icons are used as signposts throughout the page.

2. F ull width photography really shows off the hotel in a confident manner.

1. Strong confident typography brings definite authority and belief to the icon commitment, ensuring that customers and colleagues alike all get behind the shared vision, mission and values.

2. Cross selling features throughout the site. This layout ensures more hotels can be added in the future.
