INTERIOR 2D 3D
SPECIMEN BOOK
A journey exploring the correlation between Visual Communication and Interior Architecture through the use of letters and interior spaces.
Letters as Interior Spaces
Visual Communicators and Interior Architects both follow various systems to produce their own successful outcomes. This investigation studies the anatomy of a typeface, alongside the rules Interior Architects follow to create interior living spaces.
The system takes into consideration these rules, to create letters as living spaces, solely focusing on the essential components to living spaces in houses. These include interior and exterior walls, windows, doors and stairs.
The typeface Helvetica has been used as basis to create the interior letters due to its legibility, to show the concept of the type evolving into a living space, presenting the main focus of this exploration.

The majority of houses have a front door and a side door. The front door has been placed North of the letter facing inwards every time, whilst the side door has been placed East, facing outwards to replicate the interior blueprint components you see.
The interior and exterior walls vary in thickness in all households. The width shown on the blueprints are 8mm for the exterior and 4mm for the interior walls. The sun rises in the East and sets in the West. The placement of the windows follow the known rule in
Interior Architecture of wanting to get the most light and therefore have been placed accordingly to the sun. The staircase on each of the living space letters are always placed on a flat surface.
3D Visualisation of Letters as Interior Spaces
Living spaces are most visually accurate when the viewer can see it in its most realistic view. The process of initial drawings to blueprints can be taken further, by creating 3D forms. This brings the living spaces features to life with a more realistic view.
