Cyan(Jiachen) Lin is an illustrator from China currently based in Bournemouth, UK. Lin’s illustrations focus on narratives inspired by the world around us. Her work centres on women as she draws on her own personal experiences and situation as a female designer. The characters in her illustrations have some traditional modality, involving vintage references. Passionate about studying the relationship between people and society, Lin’s style and choices of colour palette are bright and warm. The resulting images are clean and fresh. The audience is engaged in a playful and light-hearted visual language developed through vibrant digital drawings. In this way, the people, animals, scenes and objects of everyday life are portrayed through characters that make the viewer smile.
2020s 20 New Technology Trends These are my MA graduation works. During the coronavirus period , I realized the relationship between technology, human beings and life. These works were inspired by an article from BBC science focus by Rob Banino. It mentions the technological development trends of the 2020s. I want to let my audience know more about technology from these works, and let people pay more attention to this topic through my illustrations.

Most of the works in this part come from my life. I like to draw some gentle, warm and soothing works. I feel very relaxed when creating these works. Most of works here are about nature, female, and life. For example, the works Our Planet, inspiration comes from extinct animals and plants. I want to tell everyone in the works that creatures are naturally protecting us. I hope people can also protect nature. In my illustration, I created nature into a female shape, just to express her desire for protection, and at the same time, she was extremely vulnerable. She need be protected.

Developed over two semesters, this part of the works are editorial illustrations. Acturally, I used to enjoy recording some still life, scenery and food in my life, which made me feel relaxed and happy. In the first semester, I was exposed to editorial illustration for the first time in Ben's workshop and the turning point came. When I finished the first editorial illustration on Ben’s workshop, I realized that this is a deeper voice and after that I knew that illustrations can be meaningful and can speak for some groups. Gradually I discovered my own value from this. During the COVID-19 period, I read a lot of articles, some of which were warm and some were sad. It changed the way I chose the subject of MA graduation works.
