Older Minds
The primary aim of the book is to stimulate oneself by experimenting, observing, and breaking conventional frames rather than to complete tasks as a challenge or provide the correct solutions. Let creativity flow without constraints! Engage a young mind, or even better, a group, with the purpose of encouraging these young minds to participate in one activity per day. This will help foster sustained creativity and contemplation in each activity. In such an exercise, it’s key to foster group harmony to create a sense of a truly expressive environment for collaboration. Encourage them to share their concerns, ideas, and experiences by facilitating discussions. This fosters a sense of community and peer learning, in addition to improving their understanding. It’s essential to celebrate the group’s artistic performances per activity to encourage and inspire their creative ability. Consider assigning each individual the space to conduct discussions or explain activities. This cultivates leadership qualities by enabling thriving minds to take charge of their creative journey. Focus on examining brief parts carefully and reflect before acting upon activities. Keep conversations flowing through follow-up queries, sharing perking thoughts, and delving deep into the activities. Encourage discussions about the surrounding environment to enhance observation, inspiring the participants to connect their artistic frames with real life.
Consider this book as a private sketchbook where individuals can freely experiment and explore their artistically uncovered side. The exercises encompass a variety of tasks, ranging from investigating dots and lines to constructing various forms and shapes. The purposefully crafted exercises are meant to push participants to embrace abstract concepts, encourage creativity, and close the gap between literal and lateral thinking. There are many different art styles, works, and theories included in the text, along with both simple and comprehensive themes.
7
Explore concepts beyond art, such as stargazing and other intriguing topics, broadening their horizons and stimulating curiosity about the diverse intricacies of our world. Urge them to develop a distinct viewpoint through this observation. Every individual is born with a unique creative flare, and to reveal the fullest extent of their intellectual capacities, we must introduce them to profound, mind-expanding questions. It is our duty as mentors and artisans to help create a budding environment where young minds bloom. To foster such creativity, your support and active participation will be crucial in advancing their artistic development and creating an environment in which their creative spirits will never stop growing.

DO YOU AUTOMATICALLY PERCEIVE THE ROUND OBJECTS IN THE BASKET AS SIMILAR FRUITS?
-Max Wertheimer
41
GESTALT’S LAW
“Every perception is an unlearned hypothesis.”
In Paul Cezanne’s painting, the Gestalt Law of Similarity, explained by psychologists like Max Wertheimer, comes into play. This law means that our minds tend to group similar-looking things together. So, when we see many round objects in a basket with red and green colours, our minds quickly think of fruits, like peaches, apples, pears, and limes. Understanding how our minds naturally make these connections helps us create intentional visuals. This awareness, influenced by Max Wertheimer and Gestalt psychology, shows how these principles play a role in intentionally crafting what we see and experience visually.

VAN GOGH
“I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process.”
Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch post-impressionist painter, is renowned for his vivid and emotive artworks that have left an indelible mark on the art world. Van Gogh’s life was marked by passion and intensity, reflected in his unusual brushstrokes on canvas and bold use of colour in his artworks. Despite facing personal struggles in his life that reflected in his complex depiction of the constant revolving sense of reality, his art bore witness to his deep connection with nature and the human spirit in the vast scenes of the universe. One of his most celebrated masterpieces, “Starry Night,” painted in 1889, became a symbol of his art style and his incredible depth of connection with the scenes he painted, even in his complex mental condition. “Starry Night,” with its swirling night skies, luminous stars, and a sense of cosmic reality that is always active and in continuation around us, is the main theme of this celebrated masterpiece. It illustrates Van Gogh’s surreal sense of vision and emotional depth, making him in tune with cosmic reality and how human beings with complex mental conditions can view the world with our dot-shaped lens that makes the difference.

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW CUBISM HAS STARTED?
-Pablo Picasso
75
PABLO PICASSO
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
Cubism, a revolutionary art movement from the early 20th century, shook up traditional ways of representing objects. Led by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, Cubism broke down objects into geometric shapes, offering multiple perspectives simultaneously and paving the way for a dynamic and abstract visual language. Pablo Picasso’s “Three Musicians,” painted in 1921, is a vivid example of his Cubist vision. Now housed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, this artwork showcases Picasso’s talent for deconstructing and reconstructing forms in an artistic manner. Featuring three musicians—Harlequin, Pierrot, and a monk—in a surreal and classic geometric style, the painting challenges traditional representations. A diverse color palette adds to the lively composition, while overlapping forms create depth and movement, inviting viewers into a visual puzzle. Beyond its formal qualities, “Three Musicians” is thought to reflect Picasso’s personal experiences and relationships. The musicians may symbolize the artist’s close friendships with Jean Cocteau and Erik Satie, key figures in the early 20th-century Paris cultural scene. This painting is a testament to Picasso’s innovative spirit, pushing artistic boundaries within the essence of Cubism—a movement he co-founded. Through “Three Musicians,” Picasso not only captures the music’s rhythm but orchestrates a visual symphony that continues to resonate with audiences.

EVER WONDERED WHY THE CLOCKS ARE MELTING?
-Salvador Dali
95
SALVADOR DALI
“The one thing the world will never have enough of is the outrageous.”
Emerging in the early 20th century, surrealism was an artistic movement that explored the realms of fantasy, absurdity, and dreams in an attempt to awaken the power of the unconscious mind. A crucial component of this revolutionary method of artistic expression was contributed by Salvador Dali, a prominent figure of the Surrealist movement. The surreal masterwork “The Persistence of Memory” by Salvador Dali depicts a dreamlike environment with melting clocks draped across various objects. The scene shows time as flexible and flowing, which contradicts how we typically think of it as fixed. A whimsical and ethereal environment is set by the soft, melting clocks, which represent the relativity and subjectivity of time. It represents a departure from traditional shapes, embracing a more abstract and fluid approach. This aligns with the activities you’ve just explored, encouraging yourself to embrace unconventional forms and shapes beyond the ordinary. Through the introduction of absurdity, Dali’s approach encouraged viewers to engage with their imagination. In the same way, it inspires you to embrace creative interpretations and add a whimsy element to your work. Consequently, you can draw inspiration from Dali’s artwork and add significance to your own projects. Think about the symbolic significance underlying the worldly forms and shapes; it will aid you in expressing your subjective and personal expression to transform your manner of portrayal, expression, and experience, because, like Dali, everyone has the potential to explore beyond ordinary boundaries.

KUFIC SCRIPT
“The Arabic script [khatt] is the one which is now known as Kufic. From it evolved all the present pens.”
Let’s take a creative walk into the fascinating realm of Kufic calligraphy, an exquisite and age-old writing style that originates its roots from the Iraqi town of Al Kufa in the seventh century. Its significance is profound, having been a preferred script for transcribing the Qur’an (religious book of Islam), as well as it’s traditional form continues to inspire artists to current day. What distinguishes the writing is the Kufic’s notable angular form, with its short vertical and prolonged horizontal strokes, is what gives it its unique form. In the context of Islamic scriptures using Kufic style, the Blue Qur’an, is notable as an important example of its classical beauty. It is a ninth-century copy that is believed to have originated in Tunisia. This artwork is an exemplary piece of the Kufic script’s timeless charm. Reed pens, sometimes called Kamish pens, were the primary writing instruments used by calligraphers in the past. They made visually pleasing compositions by dipping them in either red or black ink. The popularity of Kufic writing declined in the 12th century as more cursive Arabic styles gained traction, but its aesthetic appeal endured and made a lasting influence on the complex network of Arabic calligraphy. Proceeding on to the maze you just navigated, consider it as a contemporary tribute to the enduring tradition of Kufic calligraphy. With a contemporary touch, the labyrinthine design seamlessly integrates the angular and geometric elements of traditional Kufic designs. With its twisting pathways and imaginative embellishments, it pays homage to the elegance of ancient Kufic design as well as offering a dynamic connective blend of the past and present.

PROCESS OF KUFIC SCRIPT
CRAFT KUFIC LETTER The most important rule is absolute evenness of full and empty spaces but also in a kufic scrip, each word can face in a different direction. Letters still need to connect as they normally would, and take on the form appropriate to their place in the word, but they can be distorted to often extraordinary degrees to fill the space. In the following grid, there are four different kind of Alif, same is applied to other alphabets. The isolated Alif can grow a head or a foot as needed
