By definition, a wall, is a static object. Its objective is to shield, support and divide the people inhabiting the spatial area defined by its presence. In a larger context, isn’t that the very mission of our modern housing units? Space divided by walls constructed by material unmoveable by the human body is the norm in our contemporary homes and the idea of man accommodating his accommodation standard practice. Could a spatial experience, if constructed and assembled by different materials, be transformed into a modular entity – into something where the form depends on the persons using it? These questions we sought to answer by constructing a transparent unit where plastic inflated by air would define the boundaries of the unit. By inflation and deflation of air, we tempt to create the impression of a modular space. A ceiling that could be lowered or heightened and walls that could be moved by inflating air could allow various atmospheres to appear. We challenge the curious user to explore the unpredictable by changing the atmosphere. The outer skin holds the inflatable dome, whilst the inner skin allows, according to the pressure of air, random shapes to appear. Furthermore we wish to investigate the relation between the movements of the body and the reaction of the growing shapes. To experience this, sensors would be an obvious option to use. Since this would create a more exact reaction by the shapes.
