1 Million copies & going strong!!! Faversham
Printshop Faversham, invest in Intec for the third time in their long history.
Their trusty CP2000 makes way for the new CS4100 ColorSplash. The Printshop’s CP2000, which had been a loyal servant for almost 8-years, had in excess of 1 million prints to its name! Proprietor, Headley Caryer, therefore decided it was high-time to look for a replacement! Headley & Mary Caryer, who founded the business over 30 years ago, have been regular Intec customers over the
years - and so, they naturally turned to us again for their next digital print investment. As a small printing company they are dedicated to providing high quality digital and litho and so it was understandable that they would look at the new game-changing technology of the ColorSplash series. This investment not only ensured that they could continue to offer a great customer-focused service, but also helped with the company’s policy of offering high quality products at a good price.
Headley Caryer with his new ColorSplash, ready for another long innings!
We are delighted to win the business of a new CS4100 printer, particularly as this is the third investment Printshop has made with us over this period Peter Swann Intec UK Sales Manager

Intec’s chosen Charity for 2015 At Intec Printing Solutions Limited we believe that we make a better world for everyone when we offer the gift of hope to those far less fortunate than ourselves. Every Intec consumable purchased generates a donation towards the charity we support each year. In 2015 we are supporting ‘International Needs’ and their quest to build a maternity hospital in Burkina Faso. Mothers and their children benefiting from the much-improved care provided by the charity
Who we’re supporting in 2015 Burkina Faso is a country in West Africa where the second class treatment of women and severe poverty combine to prevent access to medical treatment. The current figures for maternal mortality in Burkina show that 560 women die in every 100,000 births; the figures are much, much higher in rural areas where there is virtually no access to clean hospitals. Many treatments are subsidised by the government; however in some places in Burkina, corruption means patients are not told about this and are asked to pay the full amount. Other significant issues include distances to hospitals, and lack of understanding about medical conditions and implications. The addition of a dedicated maternity ward would help to greatly increase the number of expectant mothers that can be provided for. Peter White International Needs International Needs has built a medical centre in one such area. The medical centre aims to become selfsufficient, whilst making sure the poor are not restricted from treatment.
during or after pregnancy occur in the developing world, showing that with good medical care, most deaths are preventable. Both infant mortality and Malaria are huge problems in Burkina Faso. The overall goal for International Needs in Burkina Faso is to serve the community and improve overall healthcare for the poor and vulnerable, especially focusing on responsive Malaria treatment and maternal care.
Will Intec help build a new dedicated maternity ward?
In 2007 building work began on the medical centre, the land was given by the town mayor to I.N. for this specific use. The whole area has grown in size and covers 2 districts of Bobo Dialassou, Colma 1 and Colma 2. It was in 2012 when the consultation building and the pharmacy/laboratory building were completed. Revenue from consultations, pharmaceuticals and maternity care have increased steadily over 2014 peaking in the month of October at the height of the Malaria season. In 2014 the clinic
served 9,483 people and delivered 308 babies safely, but the capacity for births can be trebled. The addition of a dedicated maternity ward would help to greatly increase the number of expectant mothers that can be provided for. This means that the medical centre will be far more able to meet the growing needs of the surrounding villages. Not only would the potential capacity be increased, but it will also increase the number of lives we can save. Due to lacking some of vital equipment and space, women who have sudden complex needs are still at high risk. With the addition of a dedicated ward, with all the necessary equipment, we will be able to challenge the currently unfavourable statistics.
Why we provide medical care
In our world every 2 minutes a woman dies giving birth. 99% of deaths

Master Class #2

®
Continuing our new ‘Master Class’ series, to help you get the very best from your Intec equipment, we advise how to remove ‘Page Creep.’ Using ‘Advanced Booklet Mode’ to overcome ‘Page Creep’ ‘Advanced Booklet Mode’ is a great feature to master and will infinitely improve the finish of your saddle-stitched booklets - and it’s made easy when using the Intec Fiery RIP, where we’ve added ‘enhanced CREEP control’ to the ‘Booklet’ function, within the imposition options of our version of the Fiery® RIP.
fig 1
This Master Class explains the phenomenon and how to make use of these features to achieve a perfect booklet every time.
What is ‘Page Creep’?
‘Page creep’, (also known as ‘shingling,’ or ‘feathering’), refers to the inner pages of a multi-page booklet being forced to ‘creep’ outwards from the spine. This is due to the physical thickness of each page incrementally building up and pushing out - and results in the outer trim margin of these inner pages protruding when the booklet is folded Fig 1 and looks unprofessional if left untrimmed. But when guillotining, there is a high risk of losing edge content and page numbers! Fig 2. As an example, a 60 page booklet will create around 4mm of ‘creep’.
The ‘Science bit’…
Intec’s ‘Creep control’ allows users to compensate for the extra amount that the outer pages in a section have to wrap around the spine. Creep compensation can be done by either; pushing in inner pages, (CREEP IN) or by pushing out outer pages of the booklet, (CREEP OUT). Also, a combination of Creep In and Creep Out is possible, this is known as (CrossOver Creep) Fig 3. In the case of Fig 2 above, we would use CREEP IN to move the INNER Paper
Creep in

Position After Creep Compensation
pages – IN, towards the centre, so we would not trim the edges off. In some cases, the spine may have image or text content in it, so moving the pages into the centre may not be ideal, as this would crop the centre pages. So in addition to the ability to CREEP IN, Intec’s advanced imposition offers CREEP OUT. This enables users to be able to deal with jobs, where CREEP IN would not be appropriate. In this case, a user would print on larger paper (i.e. an A4 booklet, may be imposed up on SRA3 sheets), CREEP OUT then starts with the centre pages, and enables pages to creep OUT, the further they get away from the spine. Ultimately, this will deliver a larger outer spread than a standard A3 sheet, but the amount of paper required to fold around the spine still means the overall booklet will be A4 in size… and the centre content will then NOT be cropped. Note: Creep Out, increases the space between pages – pushing them out to ensure your cut marks remain consistent despite the additional paper folded around the spine. ONCE AGAIN this is not always ideal,
fig 2
as OUTER COVER PAGES, may not have enough bleed on the spine area to cope with the full amount of move out of the spine, and will then reveal a GAP in the centre. Thus a more advanced CREEP option which is normally only found on high end professional solutions provides a third option which is 50/50% mode. Where the booklet’s centre point is 50% through the pages, and the inner 50% move in fractionally, and the outer 50% move out fractionally. Continued over…

Page 4
Master Class #2…Continued So… how does Intec’s Advanced Creep function calculate Creep? The usual formula is total creep = thickness of paper x ((total amount of pages / 4) -1). fig 4
So 64 page magazine would be (64/4)-1 = 16-1 = 15 and users would then need to get their calculator out to multiply that with the thickness of paper. (This relies upon the user knowing the thickness of paper). In real life, many users do not apply CREEP control to their booklets, simply because all the calculations mean it takes up too much time.
Advanced Booklet Mode: Automatically takes care of it! Intec’s Advanced Booklet Imposition and Creep control, automates all of this for you, ensuring, within 1 or 2 clicks, it is all automatically handled – leaving you to get on with your production and leaving the complicated maths to us! Intec’s Booklet Creep control, looks like this: See FIG 4 The EFi RIP knows the number of pages in your document. All you need do, is tell it if you are using thin, normal or thick paper where the presets are based on 60 / 90 / 120 gsm papers.

out. (Useful for pages that have bleed and need to retain maximum content in centre pages, with minimum disturbance on outer pages).
Then select if you want to Creep IN / OUT or CROSS OVER CREEP. Intec’s advanced imposition options provide printers with some powerful advances and enhancements over the standard printer driver. Offering, a reduction in time and money. CREEPOUT moves pages away from the spine, starting from the centre pages progressively moving the pages away from the spine out - to the outer pages CROSSOVER CREEP – enables the MID point as being 50% of the way through you pages (from outer to centre). From the midway point, to Centre pages will CREEP IN, from Mid way to the outer pages CREEP
