WELCOME
“There is one thing stronger than all the armies in the world, and that is an idea whose time has come.”– Victor Hugo It may be the start of another year but over in Sydney at Interclean we are already eagerly looking forward to all of the exciting new ideas that are coming your way. We are always dreaming of new and innovative ideas, to help change the cleaning industry for the better. We dream of hospitals that have learnt how to conquer cross-contamination, rooms that are kept clean instead of deep cleaned, and patients who are healthier. We dream of Aged Care facilities which always smell pleasant, cleaning procedures which are safe for cleaners and residents alike, and state of the art managers who understand the need to measure their results and continuously improve them. In this issue, you’ll hear about our commitment to ‘Continuous Improvement’ and how you can help your cleaners transition into a better cleaning system. Along with this, Interclean is launching it’s new Next Steps program to help you find out what your next step is in your cleaning management.

We’ll also be taking a look at some of our new products including the Magic Mini Trolleys and Side Bars for your trolleys that are stronger and allow for more handles and mops to hang than ever before. On top of all this, we are launching our Innovation and Benchmarking Conference 2016. After such fantastic feedback from our state-wide What’s Next In Cleaning seminars and Healthcare Cleaning Managers Conference last year, we have decided to merge the two into a full one day conference in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, Brisbane and Sydney. This conference will be all about innovation. We’ll be launching our new My Clean 360 App, looking at industry and task benchmarking along with some exciting new products. Thanks for your involvement and partnering with Interclean as we work towards continuous improvement in our cleaning management.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT “It doesn’t matter where you are on your journey of continuous improvement, there is always a next step” Over the last 3 months we have been busy rolling out between 3 and 6 aged care sites per week, with our microfibre cleaning system. The bulk of this work has been sites for Nationwide Aged Care Services who currently clean over 300 facilities nationally. Not only have Nationwide set themselves apart by creating their own I-clean Best Practice System, but they have engaged Interclean Managed Services to deliver ongoing quarterly auditing and re-training for all staff. I have personally visited some sites, conducted audits and am excited about the results sites are seeing. “But
rather, effective change happens in small continuous pieces” As I spend more time auditing and re-training cleaners, the more I understand that change in our cleaning industry does not happen overnight and it does not happen quickly. But rather, effective change happens in small continuous pieces. Do you want to change the way you clean your facilities? Are you content with where you are now? Do have have any idea what is possible?
2
Can you achieve your cleaning goals just by purchasing a microfibre system? Or do you understand that it is the management, planning and training that will give you the most improvement. With continuous improvement as the focus, we need to know where we are now, where we’d like to be and keep asking ourselves, what is our next step? It could be that your next step is simply to analyse your current cleaning system and work out which areas are holding you back. Your next step could be to trial a different system in one of your facilities, or to carry out a productivity audit on one of the sections of your facility. It could be arranging a visit to see how other facilities manage their cleaning, or attending a conference and learning with other cleaning managers in the same position as you. Whatever your next step is, what is important is that you take it, and continue to take steps that will help you to improve your cleaning. It doesn’t matter where you are on your journey of continuous improvement, there is always a next step. Those that think they have arrived are the only ones who have stopped improving. Those who are at the forefront of cleaning management are the main ones pushing me to do more, so I am encouraging you, no matter where you are on your journey to take the next step.

NEWS Nationwide Rolls Out 100th Trolley We have just rolled out our 100th trolley for Nationwide Aged Care Services, and this has kept our Interclean trainers very busy. Led by Chris Joyce, Nationwide’s mission is clear, to give their clients Peace of Mind so that they can focus on their core business of CARE. Nationwide have an implementation team led by Daniel Jones who have done a fantastic job working with our trainer’s across their sites. This year will see the rollouts continue with many new contracts starting up as well as continuing to rollout to existing clients.
New Side Bars To Fix The Broken Hooks Issue I was up last month visiting the lovely ladies of Greenslopes Hospital, and it occurred to me that some people are not aware of the new tool bars that fit onto the sides of the trolleys. Most of you will have had handle holders and hooks break off the trolley as your staff bump into doors, and sometimes this causes parts of the trolley to break as well. These new tool bars fit onto the side of the 150 bag holder or on the middle concealed section and can hold many more tools than the single holders ever did. The tool bar allows the tools to move back and forth reducing the impact if they are bumped. We have also improved the handle holders that now lock onto the handles and they are available in three sizes. 6

After searching the world I have finally found a solution to hard to clean floors!! Most healthcare sites we work with still have some difficult to clean surfaces and I have been searching for some better ways to clean these hard to clean floors. Dining room and kitchen areas, as well as non-slip bathroom floors do need to be scrubbed some of the time and I can finally advise that you are about to see some fantastic new equipment that has specifically been produced for these floors.
