Welcome to the first edition of Interclean News. I was overwhelmed last month by the feedback from our Healthcare Cleaning Seminars with many of you asking for more information that would help improve Cleaning and Hygiene in your facilities. From your feedback sheets, would you believe that Training was the number 1 issue you wanted help with. I previously thought that cross contamination and WH&S issues were the top issues but when you think about it these issues can only truly be dealt with if we have competent ways of training and re-training our staff to achieve higher levels of cleanliness, lower levels of cross contamination and safer work practices resulting in less injuries. With our focus on our Cleaning, Hygiene, Improvement, Process (C.H.I.P.) this newsletter will focus on training and tools that will help you build a better system within your facility. Seminar Success A huge thank you to all those who attended and made the seminars such a success. Over 250 delegates attended Healthcare cleaning seminars nationally grabbing the opportunity to meet with other Cleaning Managers all looking at ways of improving their cleaning processes. It was great to finally see some of Australia’s leading contract cleaners join us as they start implementing a Best Practice approach to their healthcare accounts. Sangar Vedovato from TTS flew from Italy for a world-wind tour of Australia and presented some fantastic new products. She presented her product well and kept us all engaged as we learnt about why your cleaning trolley is at the heart of cleaners crosscontamination issues.

Hydros Jassem showed us a new approach to effective odour control for aged care facilities, and most delegates got to take home a trial dispenser to find out how well it really works. We all saw the Cleaning Task cards for the first time with most Managers working out how they will use them to teach their cleaning staff about times and frequencies.

Cleaning Task Cards Interclean has released the first edition of their Cleaning Task Cards. Bill wanted to get cleaning supervisors and cleaners to think about current cleaning practices, task times and frequencies and then to think about what Best Practice would look like in their facility.

The following task cards we’ve used during last months Healthcare seminars to create a best practice system for an Aged Care Facility.

We decided instead of cleaning each room properly once a week, we would clean it 3 days per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

We then added a new 5 minute task called Check and spot clean if necessary and scheduled this for the alternate 3 days of the week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Using the right equipment we were able to get our full clean down to around 10 minutes.
