There are a lot of different things that interest me but the biggest and most mind blowing is Space. Understanding the history of how we began, was it an almighty God, or a Big Bang kick starting our world’s existence? All the questions about what is out there, still unanswered, but what we do know is amazing. The relationship between space and mankind is still on going from the first man in space to the first man on the moon, as well as man made objects traveling through space obtaining information and images about the other planets and other systems. Launched in 1977 Voyager 1 to this present day is still sending back information and is the furthest a man made object has got in space. From using NASAs space images I was able to create this print. Like the men striving into the unknowns of our solar system I too wanted to capture this for myself and to share my interest in infinite space with others.

LINO PRINTS

7

Within the second year of my degree I experimented with lino as part of my independent practice. This relief printing technique requires cutting in to the lino removing what initially is the white of the print and an understanding of the final outcome, as one wrong cut could ruin the print. These independent prints have been inspired by films, documentaries and every day life, speaking out in a simple and visual way to the viewer.

GRIM TALES FMP

11

Grim Tales is a project that takes the classic Brothers Grimm fairytales and gives them a new contemporary twist; done by touching on relevant subjects within today’s society. For my FMP I chose to focus on one fairytale, Cinderella, illustrated using lino, a style I strongly prefer and enjoy working in. For my final outcome I was able to create a 30x30 book containing my prints and my own written modernised version of Cinderella. Each print had a flowing style so the book works well visually as a whole, as well as the possibility for each print to stand alone. Here is the content of the first page of the story. To demonstrate the relation between text a print within my book. The next pages show a selection of prints and the book its self.

The wife of a rich man fell sick and soon after she passed away. The rich man and his daughter decided to go to the mother’s favourite place in the big woodland park to scatter her ashes. They stood next to the edge of the lake and said their goodbyes. The wind blew the ashes over the lake and up into the air. The father said to his daughter, “Your mother will always be here.” Then, looking over the lake, he said, “She loved you dearly, as do I. Your long white blonde hair reminds me so much of her; you are my beautiful little Bella.”

INTERESTING TIMES A group of use were asked to create the invite for our Degree show “Interesting Times. We went through every ones work from the course and selected a hand full of possible images to use. Here is the final outcome we decided to use a students small illustration to support the information as well as get him to write up the title and underline certain parts of the information. I feel that this give a more personal ascetic to the invite.

As preparation for the show got on the way I was asked to create the bookmarks and to design them in a style that would link in to the show catalogue, by using the set colours and the doted background and set typeface. From seeing tho last year show I remember the bookmarks kept moving and falling out. So I decided to make a small incision that would slide over the page keeping it secure within the book. 14)
