Es geht los! Eine Woche voll Filme, Workshops und Events: Das Internationale Kinder- und Jugendkurzfilmfestival Berlin findet bereits zum siebten Mal statt. Am Sonntag, den 09.11.2014 beginnt es um 14 Uhr mit einer großen Eröffnungsparty im Filmtheater am Friedrichshain, unserem treuen Partner und Festivalkino.

In den beiden Programmsparten KUKI und TEENSCREEN gibt es neben den sechs Wettbewerbsprogrammen für Kinder und Jugendliche – erstmals ist in diesem Jahr auch das Dokumentarfilmprogramm ein Wettbewerb – stolze fünf Spezialprogramme, die sich auf bestimmte Themen oder Genres stürzen. Unter anderem gibt es hier Umweltfilme für Kinder und Sprachprogramme für Jugendliche.

Get ready for a week full of films, workshops and events at the 7th edition of the International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth Berlin. The lively Festival Opening matinee will take place at 2pm on Sunday 9 November 2014 at our wonderful festival cinema, Filmtheater am Friedrichshain. Beyond the 6 competition programmes within the sections KUKI (for children) and TEENSCREEN (for youth) – including a new audience award for children’s docu mentaries –, we’ll be screening 5 impressive special programmes that relate to particular themes including environmental films and foreign languages.

In den Animations-Workshops können Kinder gemeinsam einen Film animieren. Erfahrung im Animationsbereich ist nicht erforderlich, der Spaß, die Kreativität und das Teamwork stehen im Vordergrund. Die Workshops finden in einem mobilen Animationsstudio, dem [zapf] TrickTruck statt, und werden von den beiden italienischen Animationskünstlern Andrea Martignoni und Roberto Paganelli geleitet. Der fertige Film feiert im Rahmen der zapf-Familienvorstellung am Sonntag, den 16.11. Premiere.

Children are invited to come and work on a collective film in a week-long animation workshop. No previous experience is necessary: it’s all about fun, creativity and concentrated teamwork! The sessions take place inside our fabulous mobile animation studio, the [zapf] TrickTruck and will be led this year by Italian animation artists Andrea Martignoni and Roberto Paganelli. Kuki – Competition Programmes for Children

In diesem Jahr haben wir über 800 Filme aus 72 Ländern geschaut, um beim 7. internationalen Kinder- und Jugendkurzfilmfestival Berlin die Besten der Besten zu zeigen. Es sind Filme aus der ganzen Welt dabei, so vielfältig wie die Länder selbst – Spielfilme, Animationen und Dokumentarfilme. Leicht war es nicht, aber wir zeigen hier die 26 Filme die uns zum Staunen, Lachen oder Weinen brachten. Diese vier Programme nehmen uns mit: durch fremde Länder, zu ungewöhnlichen Menschen, tragischen Momenten, aber auch lustigen Geschichten. Es geht um Wünsche – nach einem Fahrrad oder die Eltern endlich wiederzusehen, um Mut – ob beim Vorsingen in der Schule oder bei der Wahl des Karnevals-Kostüms, um Träume – nach einem anderen Leben als die Eltern oder gar einem Leben im Computerspiel, und auch um Hobbys – die Einen tanzen Breakdance und die Anderen haben gar keine Zeit für ein Hobby. Alle Filme der Wettbewerbsprogramme für Kinder werden in der Originalversion mit englischen Untertiteln gezeigt und werden bei Bedarf live Deutsch eingesprochen. Unsere Kinderjury wird aus den drei Wettbewerbs-Programmen einen ersten und zweiten Platz küren, das Publikum kürt den Gewinner des Dokumentarfilmprogramms.

This summer we watched over 8oo films from 72 countries to find the most original, insightful and entertaining films for the 7th International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth Berlin. The live-action, animation and documentary films we selected came from all over the world and are as diverse as the countries they come from. We had a great time watching so many wonderful films and hope you are just as thrilled as we are with this collection of 26 exceptional films that moved and delighted us.

These 4 programmes will take us around the globe to distant countries and unusual people, with stories that are sometimes poignant and often hilarious. Films about longing – for a bicycle, or to finally be reunited with one’s parents; about courage – singing in front of the whole class, or deciding on a daring fancy-dress costume; and also about hobbies – while some kids enjoy break dancing, making music and football, hobbies can seem like far-off dreams for others. All COMPETITION FILMS FOR CHILDREN are shown in original versions with English subtitles and live German voice-overs where necessary.

Für unsere jüngsten Zuschauer zeigen wir Animationen aus sechs verschiedenen Ländern, die in ihren Animationsstilen nicht unterschiedlicher sein könnten. Die Filme werden von einem Rahmenprogramm begleitet, so dass das Gesehene verarbeitet werden kann und die Kleinsten nicht die ganze Zeit im Sessel sitzen müssen. Das Umweltprogramm greift in diesem Jahr viele Thematiken auf. Es wird u. a. versucht das Bienensterben zu erklären und die Vorteile erneuerbarer Energien werden aufgezeigt. Zu sehen gibt es verschiedene Animationen, Dokumentar- und Spielfilme. Grundschüler erhalten hier einen Einblick in unterschiedliche Film- und Umweltwelten. Alle Filme der Spezialprogramme für Kinder werden in der Originalversion mit englischen Untertiteln gezeigt und werden bei Bedarf live Deutsch eingesprochen.

While the films in this section may not be in competition, these 2 programmes for different age groups have particular aims: The first is a collection of stunning and playful animation that introduces pre-schoolers to the enchanting world of cinema, while the second presents insightful and fun films about our planet and the environment for primary school children. For the youngest audience members, we’ll show animated films from 6 different countries that display a wide variety of stories, techniques and styles. The screening is complemented by playful games, songs and questions to help young children comprehend the films they watch, while liberating them from their seats! This year’s ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME highlights a wide range of themes: For example, one film tackles the problem concerning bees and their possible extinction in a surprisingly amusing way, while another demonstrates the advantages of renewable energy clearly and entertainingly . This mix of animation, documentary and live-action films will provide primary school children with an insight into the highly diverse worlds of both the cinema and the environment. All films screened in the special programmes for children are shown in original versions with English subtitles and live German voice-overs where necessary.

In diesem Jahr wurden die beiden TeenScreen-Wettbewerbsprogramme ab 12 und ab 14 Jahren nicht mehr allein von Erwachsenen zusammengestellt, sondern von Jugendlichen selbst. In einem einwöchigen Workshop wurde in den Sommerferien in der Jugendtheateretage in zwei Gruppen jeweils ein Programm kuratiert. Die Filme wurden gesichtet, es wurde diskutiert, die Auswahl besprochen und am Schluss die Reihenfolge für das Festival bestimmt. Während des Festivals werden die TeenScreen-Kuratoren ausgewählte Filme anmoderieren und vom Workshop erzählen.

We’re thrilled to announce that real experts are responsible for the film selection in both TeenScreen competition programmes 12+ and 14+ this year: teenagers! In a week-long intensive workshop held at Jugendtheateretage during the summer holidays, two groups of teens watched, discussed and selected films, and then carefully established the festival screening order. TeenScreen curators will present selected films and talk about their workshop experience during the festival

Mit der Spendenaktion Ihr Sitz für die Kids gibt KUKI auch Kindern aus einkommensschwachen Familien die Möglichkeit, am Festival teilzunehmen. „Sessel-Paten“ spenden 100 Euro und ermöglichen damit einer Gruppe von 30 Kindern den Kinobesuch. Das Festival schließt am Sonntag traditionell mit der zapf-Familienvorstellung. In diesem Jahr präsentieren wir erstmals keine Filme des Festivals, sondern zeigen Filme, die von Kindern gemacht wurden. Gleich drei Filme feiern hier Premiere: Der während des Animationsworkshops in unserem [zapf]TrickTruck produzierte Film und die Filme des Projekts Kinder machen Kurzfilm!. Die Vorstellung wird von einem abwechslungsreichen Rahmenprogramm begleitet.

Das renommierte praktische Filmprojekt KINDER MACHEN KURZFILM! erobert 2014 die brandenburgische Uckermark! Unter professioneller Anleitung erleben die Kinder den gesamten Entstehungsprozess eines Kurzfilms – vom Drehbuch über die Produktion bis hin zum fertigen Film. Die diesjährigen Kurzfilme feiern am 6. Dezember im FilmforUM Schwedt und am 7. Dezember im Union Filmtheater in Prenzlau ihre Premiere und werden bei der ZAPF-FAMILIENVORSTELLUNG zu sehen sein. Ein Projekt von Bewegliche Ziele e.V. in Kooperation mit interfilm Berlin und VISION KINO. In 2014, the award-winning annual filmmaking project, KINDER MACHEN KURZFILM! took to the Brandenburg Uckermark! TEENSCREEN zeigt relevante, kreative und selbstverständlich auch unterhaltsame Filme, die mit ungewöhnlichen Geschichten und Macharten überraschen. Nicht nur für Jugendliche, sondern auch für Erwachsene halten die Kurzfilme erstaunliche Einblicke parat.

Der erste und zweite Preis aus beiden Programmen wird von unserer Jugendjury bestimmt. Die Programme der Wettbewerbsprogramme ab 12 und ab 14 laufen im Originalton mit deutschen und englischen Untertiteln. Wir möchten uns herzlich bei unserem Programmpaten Samson & Fritaud Text für die Untertitelungen der Filme bedanken.

Introduced as an exciting new section two years ago, TEENSCREEN just got better! Instead of us adults deciding what young people should watch, we decided to get expert help. During a one-week workshop held in the summer holidays, 2 groups of teenagers watched loads of different short films, discussed them intensively and finally put together our 12+ and 14+ competition programmes. The films they chose are fabulously diverse, international and about subjects that fascinate them. From live-action and animation to musical and horror, the films deal with searching and finding one’s identity and all the people and situations encountered along the journey. You’ll see cool, strong teenagers in a variety of conflicts, who generally don’t give up and manage to make their own way. TEENSCREEN aims to show relevant, creative and entertaining films that young people otherwise would rarely get a chance to see. Unusual stories, brilliant filmmaking and surprising perspectives that broaden horizons as much as they provide opportunity for self-reflection – for teenagers and adults alike!

The first and second prize will be conferred by our youth jury. Both the 12+ and 14+ competition programmes will be shown in original versions with German and English subtitles. Thanks to the generous support of Samson & Fritaud Text for their brilliant subtitles!

Die Jugendsparte des Internationalen Kinder- und Jugendkurzfilmfestivals Berlin wurde in diesem, dem dritten Jahr, noch weiter ausgebaut! Bisher haben wir die Programme für Jugendliche selbst zusammengestellt, doch in diesem Jahr haben wir uns Unterstützung von Experten geholt. In einem einwöchigen Workshop wurden die Wettbewerbsprogramme ab 12 und ab 14 von Jugendlichen selbst kuratiert. Es sind großartige Programme geworden, mit einer vielfältigen, internationalen Filmauswahl und Themen, die Jugendliche beschäftigen. Die Filme sind so vielfältig wie Jugendliche selbst. Sie kommen aus der ganzen Welt, sind Spiel- Animations- und Horrorfilme, handeln vom Suchen und Finden der eigenen Identität und den Personen, denen man auf diesem Weg begegnet. Wir sehen hier coole, starke Jugendliche, die sich nicht unterkriegen lassen, die ihr eigenes Ding machen und dabei immer ihre ganz eigenen Wege gehen.

Filme aus 10 Ländern laufen in unseren drei Sprachprogrammen. In je einem englischen (What’s up?), spanischen (¿Que Onda?) und französischen (Quoi de Neuf?) Programm können Jugendliche an ihren Sprachkenntnissen feilen und die verschieden Kulturen und Akzente einer Sprache kennen lernen – inklusive Slang und Umgangssprache. Doch es geht hier nicht nur um sprachliche Vielfalt, auch filmisch sind hier verschiedene Genres vertreten. Gezeigt werden: Ein Musical über gegensätzliche Liebe aus Australien, ein Social-Media Film aus Kanada, eine Umwelt-Animation aus Argentinien, eine Gangster-Komödie aus Mexiko und eine Coming-Out Geschichte aus Frankreich. Alle Filme der Sprachprogramme werden im Original gezeigt und gleichzeitig in der Originalsprache untertitelt. Jugendliche und andere Sprachlernende bekommen mit diesen Programmen die Chance ihre Sprachkenntnisse anzuwenden und zu vertiefen. Wir möchten uns herzlich bei unserem Partner Samson & Fritaud Text für die Untertitelungen der Filme bedanken.

We’re showing films from 10 countries in our 3 foreign language programmes: English (What’s up?), Spanish (¿Que Onda?) and French (Quoi de Neuf?). Perfect for older secondary school students to experience the diverse ways in which these foreign languages are spoken in different countries. But expect thematic and stylistic diversity in terms of the film selections too: An Australian musical about the colliding worlds of two very different love-struck teenagers; an innovative study of social media behaviour from Canada; an epic, environmentally themed animation from Argentina; a gangster comedy from Mexico and a dramatic coming-out story from France, to name a few. All films are shown in original versions and subtitled in the same language, offering foreign language students the opportunity to tune into a broad range of dialects and behold other ways of life, these programmes are a fantastic way to enrich the learning process.
