can’t quiet this buzz!

Named after the affectionate handle for Johannesburg, Patternsof Joburgby Charls Pasion and Christophe Prosper Rammant’sTalkCarpet(a partner of Ege), captures the vibrant essence of South Africa. Intense colors and bold diagonal lines connect to both local urban murals and a common theme in African art: design studios re-using leftover fabric to weave into colorful pieces. We’re floored!spaces 614 and 1040 Vettore (array in Italian) is a chic modular lounge by Toan Nguyen forStudio TK that introduces resi elements into the office—particularly ideal for mixed-use spaces. “As the desire for flexibility increases with employees returning to the office, we wanted to introduce a collection that addresses that need while offering the comforting elements workers enjoy in their own home,” Studio TK president Charlie Bell says. The low-profile metal bases of the one- to four-seat benches (with and without backs and arms) are available in 16 powder-coats and with two configurable components: the upholstery and the integrated veneer- or laminate-topped corner, center, or end tables and tablets.space 1042

As we head back to the office, the world moves from face shields to desk shields.BuzziShield Hook is one such option, in a jaunty geometric wedge shape measuring 59 or 71 inches high. The newBuzziSpace launch, with 2.8-inch-thick upholstered acoustic-foam body, offers a modicum of privacy and also supports noise reduction. Because sometimes you want to overhear the office gossip and sometimes you don’t.

welcome to neocon!

We are thrilled to bring the commercial design industry back together, in-person, for the 52nd edition of NeoCon. Since 1969, the show has served as the commercial design industry’s leading platform and annual gathering place—and NeoCon 2021 will be a particularly important and productive event. This is an ideal moment to re-connect (directly) with each other, see and experience new products, discuss the power of design and the future of our shared spaces, and of course, celebrate.

We thank our showrooms and exhibitors for their participation, our industry partners for their invaluable feedback and support, and Interior Design for publishing the Show Daily and the o cial NeoCon Show Directory, essential tools for navigating the show.

We hope you have an inspirational, productive, and enjoyable experience at NeoCon 2021!

See you next year: June 13-14, 2022.

keynote presentations

This year’s daily keynotes will be presented both on-site, to a limited audience (currently sold out, so hope you got tickets!), and online, livestreamed via NeoCon Hub (no registration required for show attendees). That’s great news, making it even easier for you to catch all three stellar, thoughtprovoking talks. Kicking things o on Monday is Studio Gang founding partner—and architectural trailblazer—Jeanne Gang, who will present “Furniture for the City: Recasting Urban Design through Micro-Activation.” Acknowledging how the pandemic has underscored the vital importance of urban public space for sustaining individual wellness, Gang will discuss how we can rethink design strategies to make cities more inclusive and equitable.

Don’t miss Tuesday’s “The Medici E ect: Innovation at the Intersection,” by author, entrepreneur, and The Medici Group CEO Frans Johansson, who has advised executive leadership at Fortune 500 companies including Disney and Nike. He will demonstrate how diversity and inclusion are imperative to the success of organizations’ growth—and, indeed, the ultimate drivers of innovation. And capping o the keynote series is Jackie Koo, founding principal of KOO (and 2020’s Chicagoan of the Year in Architecture), who presents “Taming Push Me Pull You: KOO’s Integrated Architectural and Interior Design Practice,” during which she’ll discuss how the best spaces are created by those twin disciplines working in the same direction. See you there!
