"It is an empirical fact that bilingual immersion will affect nothing less than the 'wetwiring' of your child's brain! "

We enjoyed meeting so many of you at last week's Open House event. Our student speakers captivated the audience in English, French, Mandarin, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and Russian. Our Principal, Marie-Pierre Carlotti certainly articulated a strong vision for a warm and profoundly childcentered, rigorous bilingual education. The best way to familiarize yourself with the wealth of nuanced opportunities in store for your child at French American is to see our bilingual classrooms in action. We offer intimate docent-led parent tours and seminar sessions, Monday through Thursday, throughout the season. You can sign up online. In January we will open a hotline to arrange optional parent interviews. Andrew Brown Dean of Admission

New Early Childhood Center at 1115 Page St will open in fall of 2014
September 2013
Our purpose built Early Childhood Center will enhance independence and experiential learning for our youngest bilingual students. Nine stimulus rich, appropriately-scaled classroom environments, each with direct access to outdoor spaces, will enable us to blur the lines between work and play. Our groundbreaking ceremony takes place on November 3rd.
We capitalize on the one-time window of opportunity for the acquisition of two or more languages at the level of native fluency Our youngest children transition from the security of home-in a loving and nurturing environment surrounded by peers-to begin an individual journey towards independence. They have much to learn. Our program is differentiated, highly kinesthetic and child-centeredtailored to age-appropriate, biological rhythms. We recognize each child as a work in progress and we are careful not to rush or push the children beyond their natural unfolding capabilities. We build gross and fine motor skills-gently priming the children for the pre-reading, pre-writing and prenumeracy skills acquisition that lie ahead.
Towards agency and autonomy As the children develop naturally they begin to see themselves more in relation to others and think beyond their immediate emotional needs. They learn self-sufficiency as well as collaboration. They are encouraged to speak up for themselves and express their own thoughts and questions logically as well as following directions. Gently, and in incremental steps the children socialize and develop autonomy. This is the prerequisite for the critical thinking which will come so much to the fore in later years and is at the core of the School's Mission.
