Focus on Fundamentals - A Unified Voice and Vision

The overarching goal from ICA Board conversations was around strengthening education and international engagement, increasing membership, and enhancing the ICA’s global presence and impact within the chiropractic community through effectively communicating its values and contributions to chiropractic practice currently and historically.

VISION STATEMENT

Empower humanity to optimal life expression, health, and human potential through specific and scientific chiropractic care.

MISSION STATEMENT

To protect and promote chiropractic throughout the world as a distinct healthcare profession predicated upon its unique philosophy, science, and art of subluxation detection and correction.

WHY ICA?

The ICA, through diligent, principled, consistent messaging, actions and teamwork, is the preeminent global chiropractic organization leading the way in protecting and promoting chiropractic worldwide through: the promotion of policies, regulations, and statutory protections of the profession. the development of accredited degree programs. the finest and most sought after post graduate education programing. public and professional information resources. promotion of research resources. member benefits.

The living body possesses an innate ability to adapt and self-heal, facilitated by an optimally functioning nervous system, which is improved by chiropractic care.

ICA’S CORE ROLE MESSAGE

The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) promotes, protects, and perpetuates the core principle of chiropractic by ensuring that the public has the right to access chiropractic care focusing on the correction of vertebral subluxation by safeguarding the privilege of licensed/credentialed chiropractors’ ability to practice chiropractic worldwide.

HOW DO WE SERVE?

The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) works to:

Empower humanity to optimal life expression, health, and human potential.

Advocate for legislation that allows for inclusivity of chiropractic care as a unique, separate, distinct, and drug-less health care profession.

Advocate to protect and promote the unique chiropractic health philosophy of chiropractic.

Advocate to maintain the primary focus of chiropractic on the science and art of subluxation detection and correction.

Advocate for the removal of barriers to access to specific chiropractic care.

Advocate for equal compensation when equal services are rendered.

Enhance the skills and techniques & expand the knowledge of the individual chiropractor.

Facilitate the growth of knowledge and deepen the understanding within the chiropractic profession so more knowledgeable, competent, and safer chiropractic care may be provided to the public.

Assist the chiropractor to effectively administer chiropractic care in an area of individual expertise and/or interest that would benefit the public’s health and safety.

Promote continued excellence of patient care in applications as they relate to chiropractic practice.

Protect the health and wellbeing of the individual patient and public, in general, with respect to the scientific application of chiropractic care technology

Establish suitable education and credentialing for postgraduate continuing education, diplomate, and fellowship programs.

OUR ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES

The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) recognizes the importance of establishing and making its values known. These are goals we aspire to achieve in our day-to-day operations; they are guideposts to light our way as we work to fulfill our Vision and Mission.

1. RESPECT

We acknowledge and honor the diverse perspectives and approaches in the practice of chiropractic and in promoting health, healing, and well-being. We pledge to conduct ourselves with kindness, compassion, direct and honest communication.

2. EQUITABILITY

We advocate for a healthcare system that is just, fair, and free from discrimination. We believe that all people should have equal access to services that promote health and wellbeing, including chiropractic care. We support the inclusion of all licensed health providers that are practicing within the scope and standards of their profession and advocate for compensation that is commensurate and fair for services provided.

3. EMPOWERMENT

We advocate for a health care system that gives people control of their own health and health promoting practices. We foster the development of health promoting capacity in individuals, organizations and health professions through education, knowledge and information, advocacy, access, communication, and collaboration.

4. COLLABORATION

We are dedicated to working in respectful dialogue and supportive partnership with others to address the needs of individuals and society for better health and healthcare systems

5. TRANSPARENCY

We act in a way that is easy for others to see what we are doing and why we are doing it. We make available full information required for collaboration, cooperation, and collective decision-making.

CORE VALUES (PRINCIPLES)

The growth and development of the chiropractic profession should be based on Dr. Palmer’s fundamental belief in the principle and philosophy of chiropractic as a unique, separate, distinct, and drugless healthcare profession.

Chiropractic has much to provide humanity, and our profession should be sure that it thrives while it is “staying in the lane of chiropractic.”

Chiropractic care and chiropractors should be available to all who desire to access it.

Chiropractic should have a principled international advocacy organization Background: Since 1926, the ICA has advocated and, when necessary, litigated to support the chiropractic profession and quality patient care. With the support of ICA’s dedicated members and leaders globally, chiropractic is a formally recognized and respected healthcare choice.

Chiropractors should be treated equally in healthcare systems worldwide and the ICA will help remove barriers to access.

Chiropractic should continue to expand the body of clinical and basic science research; in practice-based outcomes research; and in advancing the knowledge base of the whole person effect of regular chiropractic care.

DEFINITION OF SUBLUXATION

A chiropractic vertebral subluxation is a potentially reversible or preventable alteration of spinal motion segments from normal alignment or function associated with adverse neurophysiological activity that can be connected to whole person health.

Chiropractors are essential members of all interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

The ICA offers value to chiropractors and as such 80% of the chiropractic profession are ICA members.

TARGET 2030

The ICA Board works cohesively from the position of Guarding the Sacred Trust, promoting the 33 Principles, and delivering on the One Big Thing, with a consistent and strategic focus on The Why.

The ICA has a strong, sustainable business model, with multiple revenue streams, including a strong sponsor base, and a powerful Political Action Committee (PAC).

Reputation and History: The ICA is renowned for its long-standing history and established reputation within the chiropractic community, being the oldest continually operating chiropractic organization with a legacy dating back to its founder, BJ Palmer.

Philosophy and Principles: A fundamental strength of the ICA is its unwavering commitment to the vitalistic model of chiropractic, emphasizing the profession’s core principles of life, truth, and service, and its dedication to promoting chiropractic without diluting its message.

Global Influence and Presence: With a worldwide membership, the ICA plays a pivotal role in shaping chiropractic policies and standards on an international scale, making it a significant voice for the profession globally.

Advocacy and Lobbying: It stands out as one of the few chiropractic organizations capable of effectively lobbying federal governments, thereby advocating for the profession's interests and influencing legislation.

STRENGTH - PEOPLE

Membership and Community: Members share a like-minded commitment to preserving and advancing chiropractic, characterized by a passionate, hopeful, and skilled community. This includes a strong core of dedicated leadership and members united in promoting principled chiropractic care

Operational Strengths: The ICA's home office is highlighted for its dedicated staff, growing capabilities, and effective use of information technology for communication and information dissemination. This operational efficiency supports the organization's mission and strategic objectives.

Internal Strength: Capitalize on the dedication within the staff and board, as well as the passion of members of the Representative Assembly (RA) and committees, to drive ICA's mission forward.
