Information Changes Lives

Internews uses an ‘information ecosystems’ approach to its work. This means we assess all of the groups, individuals, organisations, channels and technologies having an impact on communities’ knowledge and information access before designing a new project. Every year our work empowers and builds the capacity of dozens of independent media organisations and hundreds of local media professionals in some of the world’s most challenging environments. © INTERNEWS EUROPE 2012 PHOTO CREDITS: MEREDITH KOHUT FOR INTERNEWS (ABOVE) AND NANCY FARESE/ PHOTOPHILANTHROPY FOR INTERNEWS (INSIDE, TOP RIGHT), INTERNEWS IMAGE LIBRARY (ALL OTHER PHOTOS)

What we do Internews Europe is an international development organisation specialising in supporting independent media, freedom of information and free expression around the globe. The vast majority of our programmes are targeted at crisishit populations, emerging democracies and some of the world’s poorest countries. Our work has two core aims: to support the highest standards in and sustainability of local media and information systems around the globe and to ensure that communities, families and individuals, whatever their circumstances, can claim their right to access information. Our programmes ultimately enable people to hold their governments to account, to develop tolerant and prosperous communities and to rebuild lives and livelihoods following destabilising conflict or humanitarian disasters.

Technology Hub New Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are revolutionising opportunities for ordinary citizens to have their voices heard. Our Technology Hub brings together engineers in web applications, internet systems, mobile applications, social media and data visualisation. The team support all of our global programmes with carefully tailored technical tools and solutions.
