In the space of 60 years, Interparking has become a European leader in the urban mobility sector. As well as offering convenient and secure car parks, we are growing a range of innovative products and services that meet the needs of major European cities. Every day, our teams help to facilitate travel in and around urban centres, focusing on three strategic priorities: continuous improvement in the quality of our services; an innovative offer of mobility solutions to meet the challenges of cities; an environmentallyresponsible policy.
Interparking is intentionally based across nine European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Romania.
Our 1,001 sites comprise a total of 429,119 parking spaces across Europe; if you were to line up all the vehicles parked in these spaces, the queue would stretch over 2,000 kilometres!
To date, Interparking -a member of the European Parking Association and several car park federationshas obtained 231 European Standard Parking Awards. These awardsacknowledge the hard work of our teams and reassure our clients that they have made the right choice.
Interparking offers convenient and accessible parking spaces in close proximity to transport hubs; most of our car parks provide easy access to other modes of transport such as bus, tram, metro, train, and bike hire points, facilitating traffic flow within cities.
To further facilitate traffic flow in and around cities, Interparking is developing a comprehensive range of services targeting our users: digitised payments, reservation and subscription services, innovative solutions for cyclists, a tailored offering for electric and shared vehicles, and more...
Interparking has close partnerships with mobility stakeholders of all kinds, and encourages regular engagement and ongoing dialogue. Our stakeholders including users, local residents, public authorities, and institutional clients - are engaged and consulted with when planning the mobility of tomorrow.
CARBON NEUTRAL IN ALL NINE COUNTRIES SINCE 2015

TO DATE, A TOTAL OF 88 FINE PARTICLE NEUTRALIZATION SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED ACROSS INTERPARKING SITES. AN ADDITIONAL ORDER FOR 75 UNITS W AS PLACED AT THE END OF 2021 REFLECTING OUR DESIRE TO BROADLY EXPAND THIS TECHNOLOGY ACROSS ITS NETWORK.
What is the outlook for the future?
electrification of vehicles, our car parks will become large electrical charging stations.
Has the health crisis impacted your commitment in terms of sustainability?
What standards do you base your sustainability policy upon?
What are Interparking latest achievements in this area?
How can Interparking promote green mobility?
Is there a news you would like to deliver in particular?
The COVID crisis seems to be behind us, how do you look at the past period?
2020 and 2021 have been remarkably challenging and contrasted. In 2020 and 2021 our group has been hit by a decrease in turnover of respectively 30 and 20%. At the same time, thanks to our teams and to the high progress made in digitization, we were able during the COVID crisis to keep all of our car parks (+/- 1 000) open and running. Concurrently, we invested in 2020 and 2021 more than 300 million euros in new car parks. As for 2022, we expect to recover our 2019 pre-COVID level which was a historical high for the Interparking Group.
Bright and positive for offstreet car parks! Not only have we massively invested in new operations in 2020 and 2021 but we are also comforted with the following positive perspectives: As cities are massively reducing on-street car parking in their centers, off-street car parks are benefiting of this policy as the previously "on-street parked cars" will park "off-street" in our facilities.
As a consequence of the massive ongoing
Since the end of the COVID crisis, our clients have been travelling and going out extensively and it is our pleasure and duty to host them in our car park operations.
Furthermore in this particular context, the Group is continuing to massively invest in digitization: new SAP system, new app’s, automatic data transmission, new booking systems, further roll out of our Pcards, increase of the number of car parks, etc.
Not at all! The Interparking Group is since 7 years CO2 neutral. We have closed many "green" financing agreements which foresee lower interest rates if specific ESG parameters are reached. We have also been the first car park operator to roll out the "lungs in the city, enabling us to reduce significantly the amount of fine particles in our operations and, in 2021, we have been GRESB certified with a quotation above our peer average. The GRESB is an international certification which evaluates and compare the ESG performances of actors active in the real estate and infrastructure sector.
We have established a list of major environmental issues to which Interparking is committed, in line with the United Nations sustainable development goals. You will discover the list of these objectives and the various programs we have launched in this report. It is with these objectives in mind that Interparking has joined the UN Global Compact program, so as to support the transition towards safe, resilient and sustainable cities and buildings.
Interparking is CO2 neutral as a group since 2015.
Furthermore, most of loans are now green loans with environmental objectives to be met.
Interparking is the first car park operator to have rolled out "lungs in the city" in its operations, so as to reduce the amount of fine particles in the car parks. 76 of these systems have now been rolled out.
Interparking is investing massively in EV charging stations.
231 car parks of Interparking have been ESPA certified, the highest European quality certification.
Interparking is the only car park operator who has rolled out an "Eco-parking" tariffication. This tariffication system, based in a real time recognition of the car numberplate, enables us to provide substantial tariffication reduction to low emission vehicles. Last mile delivery operations are being rolled out with our partner Ziegler by which Interparking car parks are used to deliver parcels in the center of the cities with electric cargo bikes. Car parks are being remodeled so as to host bicycle parking stations (more than 800 for example in the renovated parking Loi, in Brussels). Massive rollout of EV charging stations is planned with more than 100M € being dedicated to this objective for the next 2 years.
Certainly, one of optimism and of positivism. In the changing world which is ours, wish to thank our teams, our customers, our partners and our shareholders for their trust and support during the last 2 challenging years. In a changing world, Interparking is positioning itself as a major ESG car park operator. This will require the best of our dedicated teams and management. Please be assured of our will to make this succeed!
Despite the pandemic, Interparking has continued its drive to bolster our offer while accelerating activities to support our digitalisation ambitions. At the same time, we have made numerous efforts to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment.
The extension of the 't Zand car park in Bruges welcomed its first visitors in April 2022. Located under the Concertgebouw and 't Zand square, close to the Albert I Park, this car park already offered more than 1,300 spaces for cars and 160 for bicycles. The extension now offers 635 additional
spaces on three underground levels. It is part of a vast urban redevelopment project by the city of Bruges to encourage parking near peripheral areas to relieve congestion in the city centre.
A new addition to the Interparking family in Brussels, the Brabant-Gare du Nord car park opened its doors in June 2021. It offers 156 spaces spread over five underground levels and is distinguished by the use of very few structural columns to optimise the available space.
A few months later, a new car park opened on the Erasmus Hospital campus. The Bordet car park, as it is called, is located near the metro station, has a direct connection to the city centre, and is close to a new business park. This car park meets the strict criteria for ESPA Gold certification and has six floors to accommodate 866 cars, 25 motorbikes and 79 bicycles.
In December 2020, Interparking took over the digital remote management of 29 car parks in Antwerp in cooperation with the city's mobility service. Some are small units (mainly for bicycles) and are integrated into residential buildings.
Others are car parks for motorbikes and cars. There are also two public car parks with barriers (P+R Olympiade and Zuiderterras) and one without barriers (Rijnkaai). We also won a contract for the remote management of around 100 station car parks for the SNCB/NMBS.
Other car parks that have been built include the Vesting, a two-storey underground and eight-storey above-ground car park in the centre of Antwerp. A particular highlight is the historic façade of the old garage which has been preserved and integrated into
the new structure. In addition to a particularly lavish design, the car park also has a VIP area with a manual car wash and valet parking.
After leasing the Lijbaan car park in Rotterdam for more than 50 years, Interparking had the opportunity to purchase it at the beginning of 2021. With a capacity of 540 spaces, two spaces for PRMs and 22 charging points for electric vehicles, this building is in the heart of the port city, close
to the Lijnbaan and Karel Doormanstraat shopping streets and the Forum shopping centre.
Since its acquisition, the car park has undergone a series of renovations to provide a better user experience including enlarged parking spaces, new signage, and new lighting.
The Pcard+, elected product of the year 2021
Interparking was delighted to be awarded Product of the Year for its Pcard+ offering following a survey by the independent firm Nielsen of some 10,000 randomly selected consumers, as well as more than 5,000 of its regular users. This sector-based award, using four criteria: attractiveness, innovation, purchase intention and satisfaction gave Pcard+
a remarkable rating of 4.6 stars out of 5. The license plate recognition feature linked to the Pcard+ account and the quality of the customer service were particularly appreciated by those surveyed.
Italy: Mestre car park in Venice refurbished
In Venice, the Mestre outdoor car park has just undergone a major makeover; the installation of an underground cistern to collect rainwater and redistribute it to the city's factories. We took advantage of this work to refresh both the tarmac and the signage of the car park. Situated opposite the railway station in Venice, the Mestre Interparking is in a prime location for
commuters who only have to cross the pedestrian walkway to reach the station platforms. The car park is also equipped with the Telepass system to improve the driver experience by removing the need to go to pay stations.
In The Hague, Interparking has been operating the car park of the city's largest shopping centre, MegaStores, since 1 April 2021. Located at the city's gates, this complex brings together nearly 40 retailers under one roof and is expected to expand in the near future. Its car park, partly underground, has 1,800 spaces making it one of the largest in The Hague.
Already established in other countries, the Parking School (read more on page 49) was also successfully launched in the Netherlands last year. This training and e-learning centre allows staff members to be trained virtually on a wide range of topics including the maintenance of our car parks, the management of entry and exit bollards, and our products and services.
In Eindhoven, Interparking won the tender for the management of the airport car parks; this covers the 10 car parks around the country's second largest airport which handles 6.7 million passengers a year. In all, there are 5,800 parking spaces for passengers and staff and also a ‘kiss and ride’ (drop-off) area. In some of these car parks, customers can reserve their space in
advance; dedicated spaces for people with reduced mobility and electric vehicles are also available.
The Covid-19 health crisis has necessitated rapid adaptation to try to combat the spread of the virus Interparking has tested an innovative contactless parking concept… A customer enters the car park and simply passes his or her hand in front of the entrance gate; a sensor then
triggers the printing of a ticket a fully contactless process. Payments and exiting the car park are also contactless. The Boulevard car park in Scheveningen was the first in the Group to be equipped with this technology; others followed such as the P1 Front car park at Brussels Airport.
Italy: from the south to the north of the peninsula
The new car park for the Sant'Elia Hospital in Caltanissetta, Sicily, opened on 7 August 2020. Featuring an elevated walkway leading directly to the hospital structure, it offers a capacity of nearly 300 cars on three levels and 310 spaces reserved for medical staff
in two outdoor car parks. The car park is managed by the company of the same name. Under the coordination and control of Interparking, the Caltanissetta Hospital Parking joins the list of hospital car parks managed by Interparking Italia (Gemeli Polyclinic in Rome and the Pope John XXIII Hospital
in Bergamo). In this Lombardy city, Interparking acquired the Bergamo Triangolo Parking in October 2020.
With seven levels, three of which are underground, and 500 spaces, it is located a few minutes' walk from the historic centre, where there are more and more pedestrian areas.
This underground car park in the Centre of Krakow has 600 parking spaces available 24 hours a day and is a safe and convenient starting point for visiting the city. It is located in the historical centre, close to the city’s most popular tourist attraction, Wawel Castle, which - until the end of the 17th century - was the
residence of Polish monarchs. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the castle has become a museum displaying weapons, tapestries and unique pieces from the national art collection.
In September 2020, Contipark (our commercial brand in Germany and Austria) took over three car parks in Schwerin, the capital of MecklenburgWestern Pomerania. The first is in Grunthastrasse, near the railway station. The second one, the Klosterstrasse car park, offers around 90 spaces
and its location (200 metres from the Schweriner Schloss) makes it an ideal starting point for tourists. The third building, Am Schloss, has space for 350 vehicles on several floors; it is close to both the castle and the city’s pedestrian zone. These three central car parks are just as convenient for visitors as for residents and commuters.
BERGAMO ROME CALTANISSETTA Located at 200 metersThe Catalan capital and its main centre attract visitors from all over the world. This is where the Novedades car park is located, a short distance from the famous Plaza de Cataluna. This tourist-friendly area - with the Ramblas and numerous shopping centresincludes the second largest Zara shop in the world.
Three years of work have made it possible to build a new car park with 458 spaces on three levels as well as a hotel and shops.
In Hamburg, the Mercado car park is connected to the shopping centre of the same name which comprises of shops, restaurants and a weekly fresh produce market on the ground floor.
The spacious 24-hour parking complex has several floors and around 400 parking spaces, 25 of which are reserved
for people with reduced mobility and 12 for women. The Mercado car park is located near the Altona railway station in the western district of Hamburg, Germany's second largest city and home to Europe's third largest port.
France: all over the country-wide
Interparking is continuing its expansion in France with the opening of several new sites all over the country, from the French Riviera to the Île-deFrance, via the "City of Ingres" Montauban. In Menton, near the Italian border, the Georges V has been offering 84 spaces since September 2020, while the Arenas car
park in Nice opened more recently. In Montauban, an underground car park with 451 spaces on five levels, opened in the second half of 2021 in the city centre opposite the Cathedral. In the Paris region, Interparking has added two units to its portfolio: a 362-space, two-level car park in Bagnolet (Seine-Saint-Denis) and another 389-space car
park near the Versailles Chantiers train station which provides access to the capital in 25 minutes. For this reason, this car park also offers 182 secure spaces for two wheelers.
Present at Krakow Airport since 2017, Interparking Polska has built a brand-new outdoor car park 400 metres from the terminal. The Balice car park boasts 618 spaces, including 10 dedicated to PRMs which can be reserved online.
Charging points, each catering for two electric vehicles, were installed as well as a charging
point for the electric bus that provides the shuttle service to the airport.
In mid-2021, the car park located on Liberty Square in Wroclaw - in the southwest of the country - joined the Interparking fold. This underground car park is equipped with lifts that provide direct access to the heart of the city and in particular to the National Music Forum, a large
classical concert hall. The car park has 662 spaces, including 28 for people with reduced mobility and 20 with charging points. A new online booking system has been introduced to offer discounts for either 4-hour or 24-hour parking periods.
In 2021, a new housing development was built in place of the Sellhorststraße car park, north of Gelsenkirchen's main station. The new complex of flats and offices now has a brand-new car park provided by Contipark. The 250-space car park is equipped with a number plate recognition system for entry and exit.
A brand-new parking reservation system has gone live at Stuttgart-Vaihingen station. Through a dedicated website, customers can select their reservation period and pay for their parking online via payment card. On the day, they identify themselves at the car park entrance (by means
of their number plate) and can drive to their reserved parking space. Following this initial success, deployment to other car parks in the country is currently being explored.
Austria:
'n
Contipark has also expanded its portfolio in Austria. The company recently acquired the Interspar Breitenfurter Strasse car park in Vienna; this underground car park is connected to the hypermarket of the same name making shopping convenient and comfortable. The Interspar Breitenfurter Tiefgarage offers
191 parking spaces; visitors can easily enjoy shopping or sightseeing. Contipark currently operates 15 car parks in the Austrian capital out of a total of 570 car parks in Austria and Germany.

Spain: more than 180,000 users of the P-App
Launched in 2019 for the Spanish market, the P-App currently has just over 180,000 users. Spanish customers can now pay for their parking tickets, season tickets, or street parking via the app. Users can also enter and exit the country's car parks in a contactless manner: by entering their number plate in the app, the barrier opens
automatically while payment is made via the cloud. The app will be further enhanced in the future, for example, with an electric vehicle charging feature.
The renovation of the Bucur Obor car park in Bucharest is nearing completion. Its forthcoming opening is excellent news for the Romanian capital, which, as it continues to develop economically, is sorely lacking in parking spaces. The building will have two levels and a total of 965 spaces. The originality lies in its design: located under a huge square, the car
park barrier is divided into two north-south sections on either side of a major road. Interparking Romania already offers four other car parks in Bucharest: the Piata Universitatii and the Inter car park, located a few steps from the old town and the university, the Pipera car park, nestled in the heart of an office district in the north of the city, and the vast Sun Plaza Mall car park in the south of the capital.
France: nearly 4,000 car park spaces in Mantesla-Jolie
Interparking France won the contract to operate every car park in the town of Mantesla-Jolie (Yvelines). Regarding road-side parking, there are the 3,160 spaces in the red and blue zones, where the parking meters have been replaced to enable mobile payment. The underground car parks are Cœur de Mantes (215 spaces), Hôtel de Ville (300), Normandie
(340), and Vieux Pilori (100) for which renovation work is planned including the installation of charging stations. The Aire Brieussel outdoor car park will be transformed to a 70-space car park.
Thanks to a partnership with TotalEnergies, Interparking has initiated a major plan to deploy recharging facilities in its French car parks. In 2022, 700 charging stations are being installed in about 20 car parks but the aim is to reach 1,500 stations by 2025. These are 22 KVA stations, accessible to all Interparking users (subscribers, hourly users, bookers) via payment
by bank card or mobility card. Through this partnership, TotalEnergies will also take over the charging stations that already exist in certain car parks to ensure consistent and efficient management of the entire network.
Pcard App: our flagship product has now its application
In 2021, a virtual version of the Pcard+ as a mobile application was developed.
Launched in spring 2022 in beta version, it is now widely available. In a few seconds, the user can register and link his or her licence plate number to their bank card.
The user’s car will be instantly recognised within the Pcard+ app network. The app also
generates a QR-code required to open pedestrian access and provides a transaction history plus a map of the compatible car parks. The Pcard+ app will progressively be enhanced with new features and more of our car parks will become compatible.
In September 2021, Interparking launched, "Cargo-bikes" in partnership with Ziegler Logistics. This a green initiative to contribute
to smarter and more sustainable urban logistics. This "last-mile" (final stage of the order process) delivery solution sees large parcels delivered with very low to almost zero CO 2 emissions: an electric truck "shuttle" connects the main hub to
a microhub located in the Interparking Albertine car park in Brussels; from there, the cargo bikes leave for the final destination. This service is not only greener but it’s also more efficient, for example, the Cargo Bike XXL makes up to 50 stops per day whereas a
conventional distribution truck only makes an average of 25 stops per day. Introduced as a proof-of-concept, the initiative will soon be extended to other cities such as Knokke and Bruges.

Interparking is committed to achieving our strategic Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) objectives as we believe these will positively impact people (our internal and external stakeholders), the economy, and the environment. Our strategy supports the United Nations Sustainable Goals, an agenda that sets targets to be met by 2030 through ambitious but realistic goals. In the first half of 2022, we worked with global sustainability consultancy Environmental
Resource Management (ERM) to identify the ESG topics most material to our business and stakeholders. The priority topics (below) were agreed via consultation with our valued stakeholders (employees, end users, shareholders, car park holders, suppliers, society) and members of Interparking management. We are in the process of defining associated objectives and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) which we look forward to reporting against in future ESG reports.
Our strategic goal: Engaging and forming partnerships with our local communities such as cities and airports to ensure their considerations and ideas are taken into account (e.g., consultations with cities to ensure sustainable urban planning, partnerships to support local retailers, actors of the social and cultural life).
Interparking has entered into a number of partnerships, not only with players in the mobility and transport sector, but also with local authorities and service provider who expand the range of products and services we can offer.
This commitment is also reflected in a number of corporate philanthropic and sponsorship initiatives in social, environmental, cultural and sporting areas.
Our strategic goal: Facilitating green mobility (e.g., by rewarding drivers for using low-polluting vehicles, providing charging terminals for electric vehicles, and reserving parking spaces for shared cars) as well as advocating the development of multimodality by connecting our car parks to public transport, and bike hire points.
require a tailored offering
Interparking offers exactly that
The last few years have seen the emergence of a number of innovations in the field of mobility with the aim of helping to achieve cleaner air by reducing emissions. Hybrid and electric cars significantly reduce CO2 emissions and fine particles in the atmosphere and these new modes of mobility require a tailored parking offering. To support the transition toward low-polluting vehicles, we are increasing the number of charging terminals for electric and hybrid vehicles in our car parks.
After having contracted (in 2018) the first green credit loan in Belgium whereby payment conditions are determined by the achievement of environmental commitments, in 2020 Interparking had reached the two targets that had been set. In 2021, we therefore signed, with BNP Paribas Fortis, a new green IRS with
the following environmental commitments spanning a fiveyear period: to maintain our "CO2 Neutral" certification (undertaken by an independent and certified body) in all countries in which Interparking group operates to increase the amount of electrical vehicle spaces by 300 every year.
In September 2021, Interparking launched, "Cargobikes" in partnership with Ziegler Logistics. This is a green initiative to contribute to smarter and more sustainable urban logistics. This "lastmile" (final stage of the order process) delivery solution sees large parcels delivered with very low to almost zero CO2 emissions: an electric truck "shuttle" connects the main hub to a microhub located in the Interparking Albertine car park in Brussels; from there, the cargo bikes
leave for the final destination. This service is not only greener but it’s also more efficient, for example, the Cargo Bike XXL makes up to 50 stops per day whereas a conventional distribution truck only makes an average of 25 stops per day. Introduced as a proof-ofconcept, the initiative will soon be extended to other cities such as Knokke and Bruges.
While most of the car parks operated by Interparking have already been offering parking spaces dedicated to bicycles for many years, 2021 has seen the implementation of a partnership contract with the City of Antwerp for the management of 32 car parks, 12 of which are dedicated exclusively to two wheels with a total of 756 parking spots for bikes. We also installed dynamic signage at the Bruges bicycle parking facilities to provide cyclists above ground with real-time availability of spaces. Plus, the redevelopment of the Parking
Loi facilities in Brussels features a complete floor dedicated to cyclists and cargo bike owners offering charging stations for electric bicycles as well as a maintenance workshop.
In the Netherlands, drivers of electric vehicles benefit from a reduced parking rate thanks to a number plate recognition system. In partnership with several major carsharing operators we also reserve spaces for shared cars in our car parks.
nterparking encourages eco-responsible driving by rewarding drivers for using clean vehicles. In the Netherlands, our Eco Parking offer provides a substantial discount on the basic hourly rate to drivers of electric vehicles or environmental class A conventional vehicles; this is currently applied in Rotterdam (Lijnbaan and Markthal) and The Hague (Museumkwartier). By attracting clean vehicles to
our car parks, we indirectly impact air quality in city centres. This offer is made possible via a smart number plate recognition system which scans each number plate on entering the car park and then communicates directly with the Dutch road traffic authority to identify the car's emission class. If entitled to it, the driver immediately receives a special Eco Parking ticket and benefits from a discount on the basic rate.
Interparking is the first car park operator in Europe to offer such advantageous rate to drivers of low-polluting vehicles. Our aim is to extend this to other car parks in countries where the number plate recognition legislation permits it.
Interparking is convinced that the key to successful green and efficient mobility is above all multimodality (multiple different modes of transport); we therefore offer spaces located next to major public transport hubs, for example the metro, tram, bus lines, train stations or routes to airports. In Belgium, users of public transport can load their transport tickets straight onto their Pcard+ providing access to car parks at an attractive rate alongside access to public transport networks in the Brussels region.
Our offer is plate recognition system made possible by a smart number

WE USE GREEN ENERGY AND AUTOMATION TO AVOID KEEPING LIGHTS
ON IN CAR PARKS 24 HOURS A DAY
Since 2015, Interparking Group’s operations have been certified carbon neutral across all nine countries in which we operate. This certification was achieved by activating the following:
firstly, we strive continuously to significantly reduce the CO emissions generated by our operations; secondly, the Group is involved in a CO2 offsetting project in partnership with the certification agency Co2logic.
To reduce its energy consumption, Interparking is expanding our use of LED
in all nine countries in which the Group
operates
Interparking's operations are certified carbon neutral
With the goal of offsetting our residual carbon emissions, the Interparking Group is actively committed to supporting environmental initiatives in this area.
In Spain, we work with the NGO, HOMAC, which funds projects in developing countries.
We are also involved in projects to combat deforestation in Africa. Interparking supports the Wanrou project in northern Benin close to Pendjari National Park. The alarming rate of biomass collection for cooking food is a major contributor to deforestation and desertification so Wanrou helps local people to adopt more efficient cooking methods by using improved stoves. Not only do these promote health and safety (by reducing the risks of burns and inhaling toxic fumes) they also significantly slow down the rate of deforestation with a saving of three tonnes of CO2 emitted
per household supported. They also reduce the cost of energy used to prepare meals by 50%; wood consumption per household has fallen by two tonnes per year so the project saves 36,000 trees per year.
By supporting the Wanrou project, Interparking is offsetting its residual CO2 emissions in full.
In partnership with the independent consulting firm CO logic and the NGO Eco-Bénin, Interparking is involved in a large-scale reforestation project in the Bouche du Roy region in southern Benin. Situated at the mouth of the Mono River, this area has lost 30% of its mangroves in recent years.
Mangroves play an essential role in the environmental, social, and economic balance of the region: not only do they absorb large quantities of CO2 but they also act as a defense against rising water levels. Their disappearance also has a negative impact
on the availability of fish in the river, a major source of food and income for the local populations.
To restore the region’s balance, Interparking is actively involved in a reforestation project where we ask our clients to make a donation to offset their CO2 emissions. The target is to fund the planting of 200,000 mangroves, representing a total surface area of 80 hectares. For each euro donated, two mangroves are planted in the Bouche du Roy region. Interparking also promises to double the total amount of donations collected.
Our hope is that this initiative also raises awareness amongst our clients of the environmental impact of the mileage they cover in their vehicles: in fact, one euro collected offsets the emissions generated by driving 1,000 kilometres.
Our ask is for people to visit the website www.interparkingco2neutral.com to make a donation. A simulation tool on the site helps people see the direct environmental impact of their contribution.
In October 2018, Interparking took out a "green" loan; a loan with a cost that’s dependent on criteria linked to the firm's environmental performance. This was a first in Belgium! BNP Paribas Fortis provided Interparking with the loan, of €80 million to finance its expansion. The interest rate was calculated based on two specific environmental indicators:
firstly, a 30% reduction in the carbon footprint per full-time equivalent (FTE – the unit of measurement equivalent to an employee/their workload);
secondly, a 20% reduction in the energy consumption of the car parks.
Based on this loan criteria Interparking was able to claim a discount of around 10% on the cost of the loan by meeting these conditions. In 2021, we signed a new green IRS for a five-year period (see p.33).
The interest rate of a green loan is calculated based on specific environmental indicators
Our strategic goal: Improving air quality in cities in a direct way (by installing particle neutralisation systems) and indirectly (by reducing the time that car drivers spend searching for a parking space and by reserving spaces for shared and electric cars in our car parks).
Air quality is an extremely important issue for Interparking so we aim to purify the air in our car parks, for example by neutralising harmful particles and minimising the time car drivers spend searching for a parking space.
A first notable initiative was launched in April 2019 with the commissioning of a particle reduction system at the Beffroi car park in Namur, Belgium. Developed in collaboration with Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, this system uses the positive ionisation process to capture the fine particles present in the ambient air. As a result,
the ambient air is cleared of 50% to 70% of particles, 40% of fine particles, and 20% of ultrafine particles. According to air quality measurement firm Airscan.org, thanks to the system installed at the Beffroi car park, the concentration of particles inside the car park is lower than the average levels recorded outside. This was the first system of this type for the Interparking Group and the first to be rolled out in Belgium. Since then, the system has been deployed in our car parks in Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Cannes, Nice, Nîmes, and Fontainebleau.

THE SYSTEM CAN NEUTRALIZE UP TO 70% OF THE PARTICLES PRESENT IN THE AIR
Our strategic goal: Improving the quality of our services through the development of innovative solutions that meet the needs of our end-users and car park holders (e.g. digitising payment, automatic number plate recognition, reservation and subscription services, tailored offers for electric and shared vehicles)
Interparking was delighted to be awarded Product of the Year for its Pcard+ offering following a survey by the independent firm Nielsen of some 10,000 randomly selected consumers, as well as more than 5,000 of its regular users. This sector-based award, using four criteria: attractiveness, innovation, purchase intention and satisfaction gave Pcard+ a remarkable rating of 4.6 stars out of 5. The license plate recognition feature linked to the Pcard+ account and the quality of the customer service were particularly appreciated by those surveyed.
In 2021, a virtual version of the Pcard+ as a mobile application was developed.
Launched in spring 2022 in beta version, it is now widely available. In a few seconds, the user can register and
link his or her licence plate number to their bank card.
The user’s car will be instantly recognised within the Pcard+ app network. The app also generates a QR-code required to open pedestrian access and provides a transaction history
plus a map of the compatible car parks. The Pcard+ app will progressively be enhanced with new features and more of our car parks will become compatible.
Our strategic goal: Promoting and protecting the mental and physical wellbeing of employees by providing a safe work environment, implementing health & safety measures, and enabling employees to make informed decisions to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Interparking offers its employees state-of-the-art training to ensure our people can develop their skills and better respond to the changing requirements of the cities of tomorrow.
of Controller towards Parking Manager. To celebrate success, the cycles of training courses provided result in two graduation ceremonies per year.
In Brussels, moving the head office to new premises on Rue de Brederode enabled Interparking's administrative services, technical premises, and school to be brought together under one roof, creating a new dynamic environment for employees.
The Parking School plays a key role in developing talents at Interparking: internal mobility is possible. Further training has enabled job seekers to advance in their career and take on new responsibilities. The staff training policy encourages regular training to enable high quality teams with training tailored for roles ranging from Specialised Worker through the functions
Our digital transformation has brought its share of training challenges. The European GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) Directive came into force on 25 May 2018. It governs the processing of personal data within the European Union and applies to all personal data and sensitive data. Personal data is data from which a person can be identified, for example via his or her Pcard+ number or via the details of him or her entering and exiting our car parks. The collection, use, recording, consultation and retention of all these data are now very strictly regulated. Interparking has, re-aligned any activities that involve the processing of data regarding clients as well as staff
members and other relevant stakeholders (subcontractors, suppliers etc) to comply with the new regulation.
Information sessions were held to raise awareness of this among staff members in the head office and the customer service department and a document containing good conduct tips regarding privacy was distributed internally.
The future is exciting for mobility with the regular emergence of new innovations that extend and encourage ever more environmentally-friendly modes of travel. Technologies are already providing solutions to try to tackle the planet’s climate issues.
Here at Interparking, to support a sustainable future, we will:
Technology is already providing to climate issues
a number of responses
SELF-DRIVING CARS WILL BE A CHALLENGE THAT WE WILL BE PROUD TO ADDRESS SUCCESSFULLY
Continue to focus on multimodal initiatives: car parks connected to other means of transport, such as buses, trams, metros, bikes, trains and airports.
Step up our efforts to improve air quality by rolling out the installation of particle neutralisation systems.
Further roll-out number plate recognition to encourage the use of clean vehicles across the Netherlands and Belgium and to facilitate speedy access to our car parks (automation reduces waiting times and unnecessary tailpipe emissions).
Use Big Data to enable us to carefully consider the demand for charging terminals for electric vehicles and best meet the expectations of motorists.
Prepare for the arrival of next-generation vehicles such as self-driving cars. These will present new challenges for us to embrace in order to continue to contribute towards more efficient and responsible mobility in and around large cities.
