The Austrian Tirol offers hundreds of miles of magnificent mountain splendour and is a summer mecca for mountain bikers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts. It is quite possibly the ultimate summer mountain destination. Located in the heart of the Alps, Tirol is a veritable Alpine paradise for walkers, hikers, climbers, cyclists and mountain bikers with an incredible 24,000km of signposted and marked hiking and 5,600km of marked mountain bike trails plus 230km of Singletrails. These include everything from very easy strolls or rides – found around almost every small village in Tirol – to long-distance hiking trails like the Eagle Walk, which runs from St. Johann in Tirol to St. Anton am Arlberg, or the Bike Trail Tirol, a 1,000km-long mountain bike circuit. The region’s cultural heritage is preserved by the locals,

In fact Wildschönau is made for summer holidays with 300km of walking trails criss-crossing the region, and mountaintop bike paths to make exploring easy. Families are well catered for too, with swimming pools, horse riding and museums all on its doorstep. The Wildschönau Valley is an outdoors haven for hikers. Walkers can kick off their stay with a cable-car trip to the top of the Markbachjoch, free with the Wildschönau Card. From there, an easy four-hour hike around the Rosskopf offers a great introduction to the area, with aweinspiring views over the Wildschönau Valley. Switzerland is famous for its mountains. Massive peaks one after another build up to an insurmountable force. But in the middle of this barren mountain world you can find some real havens – the Swiss mountain lakes. They are hidden between the valleys and will enchant each visitor at first sight. Some of them are really big, but there are also some very small ones; however, they all sparkle like diamonds between the peaks.

and a good homemade breakfast. Personally I prefer the uncertain and unsettled. That’s why I like to sleep under the stars or in a small tent which I carry with me. You have to remember that it gets really cold at night, even in summer. Long trousers and shirts are absolutely essential, even when the temperatures are around 30˚C while walking up during the day. I once made the mistake of starting a tour with only one pair of shorts and one T-shirt, and that was exactly when I fell in the water and did not have spare clothing with me. Luckily I had a warm sleeping bag; however, it was still quite chilly during the night. Since then I have preferred to save weight in other areas. For example, you can use the SUP board to sleep on and drink water from the lakes and rivers in the mountains.

The superbike of all mountain bikes will be with us this autumn with a price tag to match. The Hope HB 211 is the long-hoped-for creation of Ian Weatherill and the late Simon Sharp, co-founders and owners of the iconic bike parts company for many years.

This gives Hope access to some of the world’s most talented carbon-fibre engineers, right on their doorstep. Why not plan a trip to somewhere epic for your next adventure? The world is full of amazing destinations and it’s never been easier to reach them. The toughest part is often just choosing where to go first. Here are six of Love The Mountains amazing, epic destinations to get you started:
