Middle East becomes the new Global startup hub in 2024

The Middle East has witnessed massive growth in its startup investments in 2024. Many startups in the region secured massive funding this year. Most of the investments were made in the fintech, e-commerce and health-tech enterprises. These enterprises got an even bigger boost through the support of their respective governments with initiatives like regulatory reforms, funding programs and tech hubs.

In 2024, the Middle East witnessed a rapid growth of the fintech sector. The region delivered several innovative solutions such as peer-to-peer lending, Islamic finance and insurance technology. Some of the countries in the MENA region have also established regulatory sandboxes to foster innovation and experimentation in the fintech sector. This has also nurtured growth in other sectors of the region. For instance, e-commerce witnessed a rise in cross-border trade. This was possible due to improved logistics infrastructure and supportive government policies. Today, UAE is a leader in advanced supply chain infrastructure solutions, which is why, it is the leader in the e-commerce sector as well.

International Business Magazine Awards 2024 laid a lot of emphasis on the sustainable business practices of the nominees who participated in the annual awards ceremony. This was in sync with the priorities set by the GCC members as part of their climate change initiatives. The region, especially the UAE, received a lot of support from the US and European firms for the sustainable solutions being developed in the region. In 2024, we saw many investments in the renewable energy sector, which is also a part of the non-oil GDP strategy of most of the GCC members. This strategy also led to the exponential growth of the IT sector with the adoption of Cloud computing, AI, Machine learning, Cybersecurity and several other innovative solutions.

As part of the diversification strategy, International Business Magazine, in 2025, is inviting nominations beyond the oil and gas sector and promoting tourism and hospitality in the region.
