WHAT’S ON MY FAIR LADY
THE FAIREST OF MUSICALS My Fair Lady is known as a ‘musical of musicals’ and for decades has been the standard by which all others are measured. Based on Bernard Shaw’s play and Gabriel Pascal’s movie ‘Pygmalion’, with book, music and lyrics by Lerner and Loewe. For starters, the show is produced and directed by Michael Cooper one of the judges on the panel of the long running City of Newcastle Drama Awards (the CONDA’s) which are about to enter their 37th year. Michael is also the Director of Performing Arts at SPCC in Waratah and has worked tirelessly with thousands of children and young people for more than 0 drama teacher. A leader in vocational education, Michael also specialises in technical production having staged a range of events all over
NSW, teaches Entertainment Industry and is the manager of the beautiful 470-seat SPCC Theatre.
This is my eighth. We stage our big Senior School musical every two years, making them very memorable events.
There are a range of factors when choosing a production, including analysing the current talent in the school, looking to vary the shows, content and marketability. At the end of the day, we want to do something extraordinary and fun which is what ‘My Fair Lady’ is certainly providing for us in 2015. I think ‘Me and My Girl’ in 2011 was also a very special musical for me personally having performed in the Hobart production at the Theatre Royal in 1997 as a young actor/ singer. Since then, I knew I was going to bring that wonderful musical to the stage again one day, and I was very pleased with how it came together.
The lead roles are made up of an eclectic mix of students who have many years of experience as well as some with very little. We love ‘discovering’ talent and ensuring our students have a the end of their time with us.
8 a little more about the upcoming production of My Fair Lady and the musical history of SPCC. How many senior school musicals have you directed & produced during your time at SPCC?
Working with a large number of teenagers (there’s 55 in this production – not to mention the stage crew!) is the nightmare of many a parent (ok – it’s my nightmare) – how do you cope? Senior School musicals are a purely optional extra-curricular activity for our students, so we rarely struggle with motivation or behaviour management as every young person has chosen to be there. The key is to keep them busy! Whether they are singing, being directed, or trying on costumes, we have found they are highly engaged in the process and form a wonderful social community with each other which is cherished long after

What was it about My Fair Lady that drew you to staging it?
For ‘My Fair Lady’, the plot revolves around Eliza Doolittle, played by Hannah King in Year 11. Hannah is a wonderful performer who frequently plays lead roles across Newcastle and studies a variety of performing arts subjects. In contrast, our Henry Higgins (lead male) is played by Lachlan Pickering in Year 12. Lachlan has emerged from auditions as a young man with incredible talent and a wonderful stage presence. Featuring a sumptuous live orchestra, a superb cast of 55 senior students and BIG production design, ‘My Fair Lady’ combines gloriously witty dialogue with some of the best-loved Broadway songs of all time including ‘Wouldn’t it Be Luverly’, ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’, ‘Get Me to the Church on Time’, ‘On the Street Where You Live’, ‘With a Little Bit of Luck’, ‘The Rain in Spain’ and many more. FASHION TIPS & TREATS With Fashion Guru & Owner of Princess Bazaar ( 0 ".
Winter gives you the opportunity to up the fashion stakes. Nothing screams winter fashion more loudly than a beautiful winter coat or jacket. I love coats and jackets not only because they are practical and † < = 3 $ ‚ ~ 3 „ ~ = X 4 ~ = X ~4 3 4 } 4 Š - your winter coat you could be wearing absolutely anything or nothing and it doesn’t matter because if you keep that coat buttoned up, nobody will ever know. (Hint this is particularly useful if you want to be wearing tracky daks and need to do the school run, you know that you need to look your best for that little task given how tacit those school mums can be, also useful if you want to surprise that special someone in your life, wink wink (I am not saying any more but I am sure you know what I mean).
According to all of the fabulous young fashion bloggers, this winter has a very distinctive ‡“‘% 0 the 70’s myself (well maybe just a little bit), but I am a huge fan. For me, it’s all about the colours and the patterns, I mean, who doesn’t love a little bit of paisley, put that on a coat and it’s fashion paradise, for me anyway.
e all the way to the supermarket. This season we re have coats with fancy buttons, coats with feature zips, coats in red brocade, coats with luxe fabrics, coats with fur collars, coats in animal print, coats in velvet (love a bit of velvet) in factt coats are everywhere and you really need at he least 1 or 3 depending on how much you feel the cold.
Yes I agree, it’s not for the faint of heart but, winter dressing is easy. Smart casual = jeans, white shirt, boots, fab coat or jacket and you are done. Business look = a black knee length pencil skirt, black turtle neck, black boots long or short, fab coat or jacket, once again you are done. Evening out = a little black dress, clever shoes or boots, fab coat or jacket too easy, voila, you’re done. So really there are three things here, any article of clothing in black, a good pair of boots and a fab coat or jacket and we have instant winter fashion fabulousness.
If you think that a coat is too formal you can e always opt for the jacket and lucky for me those are also available in paisley this winter as well.
So what really constitutes a fab coat. Pick your poison because this season there is a lot to choose from. I think that every wardrobe needs a good trench, black is the obvious. Everything works with a black trench, add a beret and a cool pair of sunnies and you are screaming chic
e We are seeing the biker style jacket everywhere and in a huge variety of colours, patterns and fabrics. One of my personal favourites would be the little mustard number from Darling (as pictured) and it goes with my fashion theoryy ng. for smart casual, business and evening dressing. Ladies, this winter your best investment piece es will be the winter coat or jacket. And yes, it does get cold enough here to wear them. I promise, buy a coat it will make you not only look good but it will make you feel good as well. My Winter 2015 must have is a stunning new coat. , I’m older, wiser and have made more fashion mistakes than most.

We are incredibly proud to once again be ranked the #1 Office across the PRD Group at the recent Annual National Awards for PRDnationwide! We took top honours in many of the major catagories such as the Top Agent, Top Office and Principal Agent. Three of our agents placed in the top 10 list of agents nationwide including George Rafty at #1, Cveta Kolarovski at #3 and Rodney Goodwin at #8. We received awards in other categories such as Most Outstanding Office in Australia, Highest Marketing Exposure (#1 for office and individual) and 3 High Altitude Awards. According to domain.com.au, we have been chosen by more home sellers than any other real estate company in the region (excluding new developments), which we are very proud of. To receive this national recognition now inspires us to strive even harder to exceed our own benchmarks. * For the 12 months from April 2014 - April 2015.
