FORCE ONE #43

UNEXPECTED.

A truly unexpected cover for Force One.

In over ten years of existence, we have never used any image of the members of the ruling family of the Principality.

It’s not our style to seek reflected glory; it’s simply not in our DNA.

But this time, it’s different. It was love at first sight.

An unexpected meeting with a photographer bearing an important name but with a soul so gentle it seemed almost humble. A man whose perspective on humanity and nature is full of empathy and respect.

And so, among Julian Lennon’s photographs (I told you the name was important ;-), there’s one of Princess Charlene of Monaco that is - quite simply - perfect for a cover.

Sometimes, all it takes is the boldness to ask… and Julian granted us the image, giving us a wonderful Christmas gift.

That said, our tribute to the Princess ends with the cover. It’s not our style to go beyond that; it’s simply not in our DNA...

The magazine continues with plenty of art, because this winter we want to fill our eyes with beauty. We’re even launching a new section dedicated to advice in this field.

And then, as always, our recommendations for the mountains, fashion, and shopping... in short, we are Force One.

Ah! Actually, there’s one more image of the Princess. It’s in a brief report on the World Rugby Awards, where she graciously chose to be present, while Force One had the honor of being one of the Official Branding Suppliers. An exceptional privilege and a mark of esteem from one of the most important sports federations in the world on the occasion of its most glamorous event. Even though we hadn’t told anyone about it…

Happy reading!

JULIAN LENNON A GENTLE EYE ON LIFE

Portrait by Marylin Clark

I have an endless love for photography. As a result, the journey of exploration is a constant in my life - seeking out new artists, techniques, and experiences, which has often led me far from home. And yet, sometimes, there's no need to travel far to discover, encounter, and be amazed.

Just a few weeks ago, I was in Venice, where there was an exhibition by Julian Lennon. Back in Monte Carlo, I found out that another exhibition by Julian Lennon was about to open. Then, I checked my email and found a message from a major publisher informing me about the release of a photography book by none other than… Julian Lennon! It was clear that destiny was sending me an unmistakable message: I had to interview him!

And so I did. I met a kind and approachable man who speaks with a calm demeanor and approaches his work with immense passion and meticulous attention to detail. But above all, I discovered someone profoundly aware of how his work can influence people's emotions and, ultimately, their attitudes toward others and Mother Earth.

L.M.: In this very moment, you have at the same time the exhibition “She Said Yes” with Eva Claessens at Moretti Fine Art in Monaco, you’re closing the exhibition “Whispers – A Julian Lennon Retrospective” in Venice, and TeNeues has published your first book… a pretty busy moment for you.

J.L.: Yes, pretty busy, to say the least! I was fortunate enough to have the publisher TeNeues approach me earlier this year to put the book together. This is my first book. I always wanted to do one, but maybe I wasn’t ready before. The timing of this was really good. It was intense because they approached me with a very tight schedule to get this out, and at approximately the same time, I had agreed to do the Venice show at Le Stanze della Fotografia, which is a museum, so it is a big show.

Because many people don’t know I’m a fine art photographer, the idea with the book was to make it in the form of a retrospective, to describe the whole spectrum of my photography. It was very difficult to make a selection because my earlier work was very much about collections of landscapes from my travels with The White Feather Foundation (Julian’s charity - Ed.). Initially, I was taking maybe over one hundred pictures, then selecting them down to thirty or fifty. But then, working with the publisher, I had to edit those pictures down, to tell the same story I used to tell in fifty images, in only five! It was extraordinarily difficult. It was almost excruciating! You feel like you’re losing a child of yours. Also, it was literally done in a few weeks, in order to align with the timeline of the exhibition in Venice.

The great thing about having done the book is that it became my guideline to set up the exhibition in Venice. Because the exhibition too was meant to be a retrospective. And the exhibition was a great experience as well. In the new building for Le Stanze della Fotografia, you have to imagine that Helmut Newton was displayed downstairs with his retrospective, and I was on the first floor. To be alongside his retrospective was a dream come true. I’ve been very fortunate, but it’s been very, very tough to put all this together.

L.M.: How did the process to set up the exhibition work?

J.L.: You have to know that I always wanted to do a virtual gallery of all my collections so that people could see my works remotely and virtually visualise them on the walls. The idea is to provide a tool for those people unable to come to see the exhibitions, whether for financial, time, or even physical impediments. As a matter of fact, it’s surprising how many messages I receive, for example, from disabled people, telling me that my pictures help them to travel.

So, after visiting the space in Venice twice, I quickly realised that, in order to visualise the show properly and understand the size of the prints, I had to “build” the gallery to the millimetre. This made me realise I had to create much bigger pieces than I was used to. Putting together both the book and the exhibition, cutting down the number of images to tell the story, was a great exercise. I’ve understood many things about my work, and it has helped me become even more of a perfectionist than I already am!

L.M.: Tell us about your path to becoming a photographer.

J.L.: I am self-taught, always working in natural light, and until a certain moment, taking pictures was only for my pleasure. I don’t have a whole team of technicians preparing the set for me; I like to be in the middle of the process, just like when you record a song. I don’t do heavy editing or retouching; I like to see the best I can get from a certain light, and the result will be as natural as possible.

On the other hand, I must say that when I became a professional photographer, the gigantic work to be done was to create a catalogue of the different works. It’s been a long process, yet to be finished, and not without difficulties, trust me.

L.M.: At the exhibition at Moretti Fine Art, I could appreciate the very high quality of your prints.

J.L.: Again, I tend to be a perfectionist. I have a very good technician in England, who’s my “go-to” guy. He looks at my works and is able to set them up for printing in the best possible way, depending on the type of support they will be printed on. For this aspect of my work, it is important to rely on this kind of expertise.

L.M.: Mentioning the exhibition you had in Monaco, you exhibited your photographs together with the drawings and sculptures of Eva Claessens. How did the idea of this exhibition come up?

J.L.: We became friends a few years ago, and she was doing an exhibition in Lisbon last year. She told me that there was some kind of harmony between the soft shapes of her works and my photographs of the clouds. So we made an exhibition there, a sort of last-minute thing, and it worked very well! Therefore, why not repeat the concept here in Monaco?

Actually, initially, this was Eva’s show, but then she insisted on adding my photographs, and, once again, we did it a bit in a rush. But yes, our works live very well side by side. Because they are very delicate.

And I see us doing bigger and better shows one day. Maybe having a little more time! (smile...).

Wedding Dress #2

Let’s take the time to talk about The White Feather Foundation. Starting with the symbol of it. A very evocative story... J.L.: I was on tour in Australia; I was number one in the charts with a song called “Saltwater”, about the environment. I was in Adelaide when a woman from the Indigenous group of The Mirning People approached me in the lobby of the hotel and presented me with a male swan white feather. She said to me: “You have a voice, can you help us?” I was there, in front of a lot of people, TV cameras, etc. I asked myself if I wanted to just continue being a rock ’n’ roller or step up and try to do something more with myself. With a friend, we decided to film a documentary, which actually took many years to finish. During this time, we saw that other Indigenous people, all around the world, were facing the same problems. I decided that if the film could make money, I’d want the indigenous tribes to receive all the profits. And the only way to do that was to have a foundation.

L.M.: Why was that white feather so important?

J.L.: Well, I can’t tell you exactly at what point in my life, but one day, my dad told me that if something happened to him, the way he would let me know that he, and we all, were going to be alright, would be in the form of a white feather. So you can imagine the goosebumps I felt when this woman came to me with a white feather. It was, without question, an undeniable sign. So it all began like that, and since then, we’ve also started to follow other projects such as clean water, health, and education. We are not a big foundation, but we try to reach those people not big enough to be in the frame of the large foundations and who remain without a voice.

THE ALCHEMY OF MATERIALS ENZO CACCIOLA'S ARTISTIC JOURNEY

Among the celebrated names that define the history of art, there are other creators - less recognized by the wider public - who hold a pivotal role in shaping artistic discourse. These artists, while perhaps underappreciated outside specialist circles, possess a profound influence on the evolution of artistic language, offering contributions that resonate deeply within the critical and intellectual spheres of contemporary art. Enzo Cacciola is one such figure - a key proponent of Analytical Painting, whose relentless exploration of materiality and surface has left an indelible mark on modern artistic practice.

Born in Arenzano in 1945, Cacciola’s career began with a focus on the interplay between plane, form, and color. By the early 1970s, his work transitioned to the innovative use of alternative materials, culminating in his participation in the seminal Pittura Analitica exhibition of 1975. His concrete paintings interrogated the spatial and material conditions of the pictorial surface, propelling his reputation onto the international stage, notably with his inclusion in Documenta 6 (Kassel, 1977). Over decades, his practice has evolved from the conceptual rigor of Analytical Painting to a nuanced synthesis of materiality, geometry, and figuration.

Daniele Crippa recently met with Cacciola for Force One, tracing his artistic journey from the 1970s to his current experimental endeavors, offering a rare insight into the mind of this influential yet understated artist.

D.C.: Your life intertwines two distinct paths: that of a cultural figure as an artist and that of a public servant as the mayor of Rocca Grimalda (A small village in Northern Italy Ndr). How do you reflect on these dual roles?

E.C.: Life has been incredibly generous to me. I have been fortunate enough to become what I dreamed of as a childan artist-and also to have the opportunity to help others. I hope, even in a small way, that I’ve succeeded in both.

D.C.: You began painting in a geometric style, but later a personal approach to conceptual art took hold of you. What are your memories of that period?

E.C.: When I realized that my future lay in painting, the advice of my professor Franco Botto proved invaluable. He urged me not to attend art school but instead to immerse myself directly in the art world. This led me to receive guidance from masters like Mario Reggiani and Alberto Nigro. For years, I honed my skills in Varazze, where a cultural center established by enlightened collectors functioned as an early version of today’s artist residencies. During those formative years, I met notable figures, including the Hermetic poet Salvatore Quasimodo, with whom I swam and who offered encouraging feedback on my work. I also encountered Françoise Gilot, the French painter and muse of Pablo Picasso, who even dedicated a piece to me.

My public debut came with an exhibition at Galleria La Bertesca in Genoa, which also had locations in Rome, Milan, and Düsseldorf. There, I exhibited alongside artists such as Alviani, Colombo, and Boriani. My piece, which incorporated aluminum and neon, already reflected my interest in materials-a fascination that evolved from color to industrial resins and, eventually, to natural elements.

On a trip to Düsseldorf, I met Joseph Beuys, the creator of the concept of social sculpture. Our relationship was incredibly enriching.

D.C.: I remember that at Documenta 6 in Kassel in the late 1970s, you chose not to exhibit your work but instead presented a Venus by Titian. Why?

E.C.: The reasoning is detailed in a declaration I made at the time, asserting my rights as an artist. To summarize:

- I delegated my artistic role to the critic.

- I positioned myself as a spectator of my own work.

- I highlighted the flawed methodology of critical interpretation.

- I declared that any piece displayed in my space carried equal significance.

- I transformed the space assigned to me from a container to the content itself.

- This statement was my operational strategy to survive within the “art” category.

D.C.: In 1975, you created your now internationally renowned "cementi" ("concretes"). Their consecration came in 1977 at Kassel.

E.C.: Yes, Klaus Honnef invited me to Documenta, where my cementi-which later became iconic in Analytical Painting-caused a critical stir, like a stone thrown into a pond.

However, the commercial impact was negligible at the time, much to my disappointment. This frustration led me to create the black cement works. Today, over forty years later, there is significant demand for my cementi, which brings me great satisfaction.

D.C.: For years, you’ve traveled the world, creating works that incorporate the materials of the places you visit. This approach seems to capture the "blood and history" of specific territories. When did this way of working begin?

E.C.: My first experience with this approach was on Taboga Island in Panama, where free-hanging canvases interacted with the volcanic sand of that place, known as the “Island of Flowers.” It was like a lightning bolt-under that Caribbean light, I fully grasped the stories materials can tell. This revelation opened a new world for me and for the history of art.

D.C.: I recall some of the places you’ve worked-Panama in 1979, Mexico City in 1980, Cuba in 2017, Argentina in 2022, and more recently, Ibiza and Sicily. Soon, you’ll be in Lithuania. What message do you convey through these works?

E.C.: My work is an extension of Analytical Painting. It is truly extraordinary to work with materials, and therefore with the world itself. While the Impressionists painted en plein air to depict nature, I aim to evoke emotion-not by describing nature but by capturing and applying it directly onto the canvas.

When I spread material onto a canvas with a cardboard spatula (as opposed to using my hands for the cementi), I feel in harmony with the world around me. It’s a joy I hope to share with my collectors.

D.C.: You mentioned that your February 2024 exhibition at the MAC Museum of Contemporary Art in Salta, Argentina, was emotionally more engaging than previous shows. Why?

E.C.: During previous projects, such as in Cuba, I worked with sand, which, when applied to canvas, carried an emotional weight and left unforgettable memories. For instance, working with materials from the Bay of Pigs was profoundly evocative. In Argentina, however, I physically crushed rocks selected from breathtaking mountains. Climbing the Cerro de los Siete Colores was mandatory to truly understand the energy these materials can convey. It was a unique experience.

D.C.: Your work was recently featured in Vilnius at the exhibition "Arte in Ambasciata: Italia Contemporanea a Vilnius". Your piece was so admired that the Italian ambassador displayed it in their private office. What was your impression of Lithuania's capital?

E.C.: Thanks to the embassy’s invitation, I discovered a serene, orderly, and clean country. Vilnius radiates a sense of harmony in life that deeply impressed me.

D.C.: Do you plan to return to Lithuania this spring to create works using Baltic earth?

E.C.: Perhaps. Who knows? Maybe I’ll create something with amber.

For now, I’m preparing to visit Western Sahara near Mauritania, where the desert meets the sea. I’m eager to find new emotions and impressions.

D.C.: Your tenure as mayor of Rocca Grimalda has brought many achievements, from restorations to the creation of the Civic Gallery and the Mask Museum. However, I imagine the most significant moment was a recent visit. Would you agree?

E.C.: Serving as mayor of a town with such rich history is immensely fulfilling. Keeping commitments and being present has become second nature to me and helps me remain in constant touch with people and my surroundings.

The accomplishments in Rocca Grimalda are, in a sense, an extension of my artistic work. The culmination was the official visit of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco on June 30, 2023.

The Prince’s warmth and affection for our town, linked to his family since 1570, led to my visit to the palace in Monaco. A cultural project is in the works, which I hope will further strengthen ties between Rocca Grimalda and Monaco.

D.C.: So, Monte Carlo is in your future?

E.C.: Absolutely. I would love to exhibit in the Principality. This spring, I hope to organize a site-specific show in a stunning seaside location. It would be incredible to create new works using materials from the rock itself-of course, with the Prince’s permission!

ROCCA GRIMALDA

A JEWEL OF ITALIAN VILLAGES AND HOME TO ARTIST-MAYOR ENZO CACCIOLA

Italy is renowned for its stunning villages, with over 5,500 scattered across the country, each a treasure trove of history, architecture, and culture. Among these gems is Rocca Grimalda, a picturesque village in the Alto Monferrato region. Its charm lies not only in its fascinating history and well-preserved structures but also in the artistic vision of its current mayor, Enzo Cacciola, the painter whose attention to detail has left an indelible mark on the village.

Rocca Grimalda owes its name to the Grimaldi family, rulers of the Principality of Monaco. Historically referred to as simply "Rocca," the village appeared on maps preserved in the Vatican Museums. Over the centuries, it underwent several name changes, depending on the family in power. The Grimaldi family, who ruled until the 19th century, gave the village its lasting name. With the advent of the Kingdom of Italy and later the Republic, the name Rocca Grimalda remained unchanged, a nod to its noble past.

At the entrance to the village stands the Castello, a fortress-turned-noble residence. Initially a military structure in the 13th century, the castle was transformed by the Trotti and Grimaldi families into a Renaissance-style residence with panoramic gardens. One of its distinctive features is a circular tower, once used as a prison. Today, the castle houses a charming bed and breakfast, while its cellars are dedicated to the production of local wines. Nearby, the Parish Church of San Giacomo Maggiore, dating back to the 13th century,

showcases a three-nave interior and a beautiful 19th-century organ. The Church of Santa Limbania, perched on a hilltop, honors the patron saint of mule drivers and exudes a medieval aura despite modifications in later centuries. From the Belvedere Marconi, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding villages, a testament to Rocca Grimalda's scenic beauty.

The village center boasts two oratories, San Giovanni Battista and Santa Maria delle Grazie, both adorned with 18th-century processional statues. These landmarks, coupled with archaeological findings that trace Rocca Grimalda's roots back to the preRoman era, underscore its rich historical tapestry. Over the centuries, the village came under the influence of the Marquises of Monferrato, the Genoese, and finally the Grimaldi family before joining the Kingdom of Sardinia and later the unified Italy under the House of Savoy.

Adding to Rocca Grimalda's allure is its Carnival tradition, celebrated with the Lachera, an ancient ritual rooted in fertility rites and springtime festivals. Unique to the region, this lively event is thought to have originated from a peasant revolt against a feudal lord’s alleged enforcement of Jus Primae Noctis. Held at the end of February, the Lachera features a vibrant bridal procession, complete with music, colorful ribbons, and flowers. This joyous celebration inspired the establishment of the Museo della Maschera (Mask Museum) in 2000. The museum showcases ceremonial costumes, including those from the Lachera, alongside traditional Italian and European masks, preserving the village’s rich cultural heritage.

The mayor, has further enhanced Rocca Grimalda’s appeal through meticulous restoration projects and cultural initiatives. His artistic sensibility is evident in the village's well-maintained structures and the creation of the Mask Museum. Rocca Grimalda has become a vibrant hub that marries tradition with modernity.

As one might expect in such a captivating Italian village, the culinary experience is exceptional. From locally produced wines to traditional dishes that celebrate the flavors of the region, Rocca Grimalda offers a feast for the senses. Visitors leave not only with memories of its stunning landscapes and historic sites but also with the taste of its extraordinary gastronomy.

Rocca Grimalda is a testament to the enduring charm of Italy’s villages, where history, culture, and community come together in perfect harmony. Thanks to the vision of Enzo Cacciola, this jewel of the Alto Monferrato continues to shine brightly, offering a timeless experience to all who visit.

ART AND DESIGN A JOURNEY OF INSPIRATION

As a luxury magazine, Force One considers it important to bring the world of art and design to its readership, reflecting its passion for culture, patronage, and collecting. Beginning with this inaugural issue, Chiara Condi, an international art and design curator, will select four distinguished artists and designers for each edition. We invite you to explore the works and creations of these artists, uncovering their inspiration and techniques. By showcasing their work, we hope to bring you closer to the artists, inviting you to journey with us into their studios. We trust that their creations will inspire you as much as they have inspired us.

For this edition, I have selected two artists and two designers whose work and approach are truly remarkable.

Olga Grotova’s abstract works possess a depth and expressionism that I have rarely encountered in abstract art. As you move closer to or further away from the pieces, layers of meaning, figures, and shapes emerge. Her technique of blending unique materials to create pigments is purely innovative, lending her work a completely unprecedented quality. The meaning and layers of her work run deep, yet the palette is utterly soothing and dreamy.

Christian Hidaka masterfully combines Eastern and Western painting traditions in his work. Whether through landscapes or memory theatres, his creations transport us to a parallel universe. The artist has genuinely recreated a theatre before which one can stand for hours, captivated by his beautifully executed compositions. By doing so, he reaffirms the depth and significance of figurative art in today’s world.

William Guillon's gothic designs, with their modern edge, evoke a sumptuous château atmosphere that works seamlessly in settings ranging from historical hôtels particuliers and châteaux to minimalist urban apartments. Guillon perfectly embodies the philosophy that more is more, demonstrating the enduring magnificence of richness and opulence. Each of his pieces is a visual feast, captivating the viewer's attention. The magic of his work lies in this unconventional gothic twist, as well as in his meticulous handcrafting of bronze, which lends each piece its uniqueness and perfection.

Daniel Kolodziejczak's designs epitomise the art of complex minimalism. In his work, the beauty of semi-precious stones is accentuated by the simplicity of bronze lines. Viewed from afar, the designs exude an elegant simplicity, achieved through the artist's perfect balance of lines and shapes. However, closer inspection reveals the depth and craftsmanship underpinning their seemingly minimalist perfection. Through each piece, the artist seeks equilibrium and balance, demonstrating that even minimalism can be opulent - just as the finest jewellery is often the most simple.

OLGA GROTOVA

(b. 1986, Chelyabinsk, Russia; lives in London and Paris)

Olga Grotova is an artist whose work invites profound reflection as one delves into its layered complexity.

The more one observes her creations, the more identifiable forms emerge through her abstractions. Her paintings incorporate superimposed images, natural pigments, plants, and soil from locations tied to the lesser-known yet traumatic history of the Soviet era. A recurring theme in her work is the collective garden of the Kazakh camp for "Wives of Traitors to the Motherland," where her great-grandmother and grandmother were among the countless women condemned to forced agricultural labour.

Olga begins her creative process in a darkroom, capturing imprints of plants and her body through emulsions. She screen-prints these images, layering them with soil, minerals, and botanical pigments. The resulting strata and traces symbolise the soil’s ability to archive everything it encounters without hierarchy. Her work explores how patriarchal narratives are constructed: “By interweaving my family history with socio-political themes, these works are a proposal for a ‘feminist monument’: unfixed and ephemeral.”

CHRISTIAN HIDAKA

(b. 1977, Noda, Japan; lives in London)

Christian Hidaka is a Japanese-British painter whose art explores his sense of belonging within Eastern and Western cultures through the themes and techniques of his paintings. The artist abandons Western perspective and photographic imagery in favour of a more Eastern stylisation of light and shadow. To paint his landscapes, following the Western tradition of painting from life, the artist stands before a mountain, painting it repeatedly from observation until the image is ingrained in his memory, enabling him to create a composition from that recollection. Hidaka transforms traditional Asian ink-on-silk landscapes into psychedelic oil paintings on canvas, depicting infinite mountain peaks with distinct shadows (in contrast to the flatness of the Asian tradition). The results are dreamy landscapes of distant lands that transport the viewer to another dimension.

Hidaka’s second body of work comprises his Commedia dell’Arte-inspired memory theatres, exploring the idea that art and theatre both create the same illusion: that what lies before us is real. At the centre of these internal memory theatres are a variety of harlequins-mythological street performers who have inspired artists from Watteau to Cézanne and Picasso. These imaginary characters are dressed in costumes from Picasso’s Parade, symbolising the moment Cubism broke free into world architecture and culture. The acrobats are draped in stars, referencing Cocteau’s notion that acrobats leap between the stars, as well as the constellations-our way of naming and mapping the stars to help us find our place in the universe, without which we would be lost in space.

What is not to love about a geisha dressed in an outfit from the 1917 Parade, holding a Japanese fan in one hand and, in the other, disks alongside a book by Renaissance author Giordano Bruno?

DANIEL KOLODZIEJCZAK

(b. 1993, Poland; lives in Paris)

Daniel Kolodziejczak began his career in the jewellery departments of major fashion houses, including Givenchy and Saint Laurent, before launching Joia (Portuguese for “jewel”), his first jewellery-inspired collectible design collection.

His collections draw heavily on the world of jewellery, combining minimalistic yet artistically intricate designs that evoke a serene, reflective atmosphere. Each piece is meticulously crafted by hand, blending thin metal with matte and polished surfaces to create an effortless elegance.

Daniel approaches his work like a jeweller, beginning with a stone whose colour and shape dictate the final design. He shapes these stones by pairing them with bronze, reminiscent of precious metals used in jewellery. His process mirrors that of jewellery-making: crafting a clay model, casting it in bronze, polishing, patinating, and finishing each piece by hand. The stones are inspired by personal memories, including the pearls and caramel-coloured crystals in his grandmother’s necklace. Each stone, such as honey calcite and red jasper, is imbued with unique energy, adding character and positivity to every piece.

When presenting his collections, Daniel creates a sensory universe, transporting viewers to moments of tranquillity, such as stepping onto a seaside balcony at sunrise, accompanied by the sounds of 1950s Brazil and the scent of fresh morning wood and spices.

WILLIAM GUILLON

(b. 1990, Toulouse, France; lives in Bordeaux)

William Guillon has been producing “functional art for broken souls” since learning furniture-making in his grandfather’s garage at the age of 16. By 18, he had sold his first piece, and his largely self-taught practice has since evolved into a unique exploration of traditional craftsmanship infused with dark elegance. William’s creations blend romantic, gothic, and Art Nouveau aesthetics with alternative influences such as punk, brutalism, science fiction, and utopian ideals. Each piece is handcrafted from white bronze, giving it a distinct silver patina. CASANOVA IS BACK, BUT ONLY FOR THE CARNIVAL.

In the labyrinth of Venice, whispers of history drift through its narrow walkways and hidden alcoves. Each twist and turn of its calli and campi reveals a world suspended between water and stone, secrecy and allure. Here, Giacomo Casanova once roamed, weaving his infamous tales of passion and intrigue. Beneath the moonlight, by the soft glow of a lantern, he seduced hearts and confided secrets-his footsteps echoing through the city’s anfratti, where countless stolen kisses left their mark on Venice's soul.

This year, as the city shimmers in the Carnival’s splendor, it resurrects Casanova’s essence in honor of his 300th birthday, promising a celebration as intoxicating and enigmatic as the man himself.

The Carnival of 2025: A Journey Through Casanova’s Life

This year’s Carnevale di Venezia is dedicated to the legendary figure of Giacomo Casanova, an icon of the 18th century whose life was as multifaceted as the masks that fill Venice’s streets. Known as a seducer, refined writer, oculist, gambler, spy, and adventurer, Casanova’s legacy is one of passion and

intellectual brilliance. The Carnival invites visitors to step into his world, offering a series of events that reflect his extraordinary life and his ties to the Venetian spirit.

Opening Night: Love Takes Center Stage

The Carnival begins on Friday, February 14, in Piazza San Marco with a grand celebration themed around love, in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Music and entertainment will transform the square into the world’s most romantic stage, echoing with the melodies and laughter that Casanova himself might have cherished.

The Venetian Water Parade

On Sunday, February 16, the city’s iconic waterways will come alive with the traditional Corteo Acqueo del Carnevale, a parade of over 100 traditional rowing boats. Starting at Punta della Dogana and culminating at Rialto, the procession features vogatori in elaborate costumes. The spectacle concludes with a vibrant party in Erbaria, bringing the city’s canals to life in a kaleidoscope of music.

Venice Carnival Street Show

From February 14 to March 4, the streets and squares of Venice will host the Carnival Street Show, a program of street performances, circus acts, and music designed to enchant audiences of all ages.

The city will transform into an open-air stage, featuring over 200 artists from 100 companies performing 1,000 shows.

Highlights include the return of Venezia, ovvero l’arte della commedia, curated by Compagnia Pantakin, which will showcase comedians from Italy and abroad.

Spectacular Evenings at the Arsenale

The Arsenale will host a stunning 30-minute multimedia show from February 21 to 23 and February 27 to March 4. This spectacle will immerse audiences in Casanova’s life through dance, music, and storytelling.

Inspired by the memoirs in Histoire de ma vie, the show is a blend of Venetian tradition and modern creativity, evoking the spirit of Casanova as narrated by Henriette, the woman said to be his one true love.

The Festa delle Marie

The traditional Festa delle Marie, celebrating Venetian beauty and grace, begins on Saturday, February 22. Twelve young women, selected through a city-wide competition, will participate in a series of events, including a waterborne procession along the Grand Canal. The winner will be crowned the "Maria del Carnevale" during the grand finale on Tuesday, March 4, in Piazza San Marco.

The Art and Culture of Carnival

The Carnival extends beyond the streets, filling Venice’s theaters, museums, and cultural spaces with an array of performances and exhibitions. The Carnevale della Cultura will feature plays, musical performances, readings, and art installations. Venues such as the Teatro La Fenice, Centro Culturale Candiani, and Procuratie Vecchie will host events that blend historical storytelling with contemporary artistry.

Special museum openings and theatrical productions across the city will allow visitors to immerse themselves in Venice’s rich history and culture, making the Carnival an experience that extends far beyond the festivities.

Burano and Beyond

The Carnival spills into Venice’s neighboring islands, with events such as the Carnevale di Burano in Piazza Galuppi, featuring parades, music, and family-friendly activities. The parade of allegorical floats will weave through Venice’s streets and squares, showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship of local artists.

The Finale: A Carnival to Remember

As the Carnival reaches its crescendo on Mardi Gras, the city will bid farewell to its masks with a grand celebration in Piazza San Marco.

And in the quiet of the night, after days of revelry and enchantment, one can imagine Casanova himself - his mask removed, his laughter softened-accepting an invitation from a beautiful stranger to her home.

Yet, for once, the great seducer succumbs not to passion but to exhaustion, falling into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Even the man who conquered hearts needed rest in the city that never ceases to captivate.

VENICE BURLESQUE FESTIVAL

In a city like Venice, where disguise, seduction, and elegance are among the core values of its identity, it seemed almost unthinkable that there wasn’t already a festival celebrating the art of burlesque - a genre deeply rooted in these very elements. This is about to change with the first edition of the Venice Burlesque Festival on January 18, 2025.

The event will take place in the intimate Teatro A l’Avogaria, one of the most vibrant venues in Venice’s recent cultural history, founded in 1969 and fiercely independent.

The festival is led by Artistic Director Crazy Cat, a Venetian performer, teacher and burlesque event organiser. Known internationally for her dynamic presence, Crazy Cat is also the creator of "Scars Inside and Out," a burlesque rebirth project empowering "happily imperfect women" to reclaim confidence and femininity after challenging life experiences. With this festival, Crazy Cat sets out to place Venice at the heart of the burlesque world.

A CLOSE LOOK AT MONACO'S REAL ESTATE SCENE

The evolution the market in the words of Benoît Martin, Sales Director at La Costa Properties Monaco.

For over 40 years, the agency La Costa Properties Monaco, founded by Mrs. Luciana Gaia-Lebon, has been advising and assisting an international clientele in their search for real estate in the Principality of Monaco. The agency offers a bespoke service, safeguarding its clients' interests to ensure optimal management of their real estate assets.

Specializing in property transactions and rental management, the agency strives to maintain a complete and skilled team to provide the best possible solutions for its clients. A team of around fifteen professionals is at your service daily, ensuring the efficient management of your real estate portfolio and helping you seize the best opportunities on the market.

F.O.: What is the current state of the real estate market in Monaco?

B.M.: The Monaco real estate market has seen a slight slowdown in transaction volume. Following the 2020/2021 health crisis, the war in Ukraine, and now the ongoing Middle East conflict that has lasted nearly a year, we’ve lost some major buyers and investors. However, we’ve witnessed a resurgence of American clients taking advantage of favorable exchange rates to invest in Monaco and its surrounding areas.

Current financing conditions, driven by a relatively rapid rise in central bank rates, have also contributed to this slowdown, sidelining smaller investors who were more active buyers over the past decade. Additionally, in a context where monetary investments yield an average of 3-4% annually, we’re seeing fewer rental property investments from our clients. Nonetheless, since the start of the summer, we’ve observed a decline in loan rates, and this trend is expected to continue. Should rates drop below 2%, this would create a favorable low-interest environment, encouraging property investment once again. This is why La Costa Properties Monaco is increasingly advising clients to act now and take advantage of current opportunities before Monaco's real estate prices resume their upward trajectory!

F.O.: Monaco is evolving as a Global Hub. How does this event is influencing the market?

B.M.: Monaco is a unique destination in Europe. Known and celebrated across the continent, this small 2 km² country is synonymous with prestige, its princely family, the Formula 1 Grand Prix held on its streets, and its international luxury yacht show. For residents, Monaco is a place with exceptional quality of life: optimal security and expansive, high-quality government policies on health and education (a new hospital, a new college, and a prestigious international school).

For investors, Monaco is considered a stronghold for real estate and financial investments. Today’s buyers, willing to pay premium prices, are increasingly demanding. They seek modern residences, renovated and smart-connected apartments, which stimulates the market and enhances the quality of properties available. While Monaco, like other prominent European markets, has experienced a slight slowdown in sales volume over the past 12 months (due to monetary conditions and geopolitical instability), prices remain stable, and record-breaking transactions continue in coveted modern residences like Mirabeau , Floralies , and Exotique . The new ultra-luxury district MareTerra , with apartments set to be delivered in a few months, is generating exceptional interest. We receive several inquiries weekly about available sales and rentals in this area.

F.O.: In this scenario, what are the current opportunities at La Costa Properties Monaco?

B.M.: We currently have several exceptional properties available for sale and rental: duplex penthouses for rent with frontrow views of the Grand Prix or at Mirabeau facing the new MareTerra district, family apartments for sale in Fontvieille with sea views at attractive prices, pieds-à-terre in the Carré d’Or , and ideal apartments for rental investments. Our portfolio is quite comprehensive, and we invite you to explore it on our agency’s website or visit us directly to learn more.

AGRICACAO ELEVATING PASTRY ART WITH PREMIUM CHOCOLATE

A Family’s Passion for Chocolate : Agricacao, a hallmark of excellence for pastry professionals, is the brainchild of Agrimontana, a prestigious Italian company rooted in tradition and innovation. The Bardini family's passion for cacao spans decades, predating the founding of Agrimontana itself. Their journey began in the 1960s when Cesare Bardini, alongside Alessandro Salvadori, launched a successful venture involving a historic Italian chocolate brand. By the 1990s, Agrimontana had established itself as a leader in Italy's pastry sector, introducing a prominent French professional chocolate brand to the Italian market.

Over the years, the Bardini family collaborated with notable Italian coffee entrepreneurs, contributing to the rise of Italian chocolate excellence.

By the 2010s, they played a pivotal role in the bean-to-bar movement, emphasizing aromatic cacao varieties. Since 2020, Agrimontana has taken an integrated approach to high-quality cacao derivatives, focusing on sustainable sourcing, innovative low-impact processing methods, and sensory profiling to preserve cacao’s natural essence. Agricacao, launched as part of this legacy, embodies the company’s dedication to quality and creativity in the world of fine pastry.

A Tailored Range for Pastry Professionals

Agricacao is more than a product line; it’s a collaborative platform for pastry artisans, chocolatiers, and gelato makers. Its offerings, meticulously crafted for ease of use and technical excellence, are designed to elevate the craft of professional kitchens worldwide.

The Agricacao range features an extensive selection of couverture and cacao-based ingredients, with an emphasis on aromatic profiles. By 2025, it will include single-origin chocolates sourced from cacao-rich regions such as Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Ghana, and Cameroon. This breadth allows artisans to explore diverse flavor profiles while meeting the demands of pastry, confectionery, and gelato creations.

Highlights of the current range include three white chocolate varieties:

Bianco Alpi: Made with milk from the Piedmont Alps, offering a distinctive creamy flavor.

Bianco FG: Developed in collaboration with MOF chocolatier Fabrice Gillotte.

Bianco Blond: A caramelized blond chocolate crafted for complex applications.

The Gourmet Agricacao selection offers specialized products such as milk gianduja for leavened doughs, cocoa powder, bitter cream, and chocolate flakes for gelato. In a groundbreaking move, Agricacao introduces vegan-friendly Almondcoa chocolates (available in white and classic), developed with French chocolatier Julien Dechenaud.

The Signature Selection and Chef Collaborations Agricacao thrives on its partnerships with world-renowned pastry professionals. Collaborators include Fabrice Gillotte, Julien Dechenaud, and Davide Comaschi, a World Chocolate Master and Corporate Pastry Chef at Da Vittorio. Francesco Boccia, 2015 Pastry World Champion, and Yuri Cestari, a celebrated master, also contribute their expertise to the Agricacao line.

A highlight of this collaborative spirit is the Chocofino Project, spearheaded by Davide Comaschi. This initiative offers guided tastings, focusing on cacao genetics, regional characteristics, and optimal chocolate techniques. These sessions aim to deepen understanding and appreciation of fine chocolate, culminating in a reference publication for industry professionals.

The Future of Pastry Excellence

Agricacao represents more than a chocolate range; it embodies a commitment to artistry, innovation, and sustainability. Whether through the artistry of Davide Comaschi or the groundbreaking vegan options by Julien Dechenaud, Agricacao is shaping the future of professional pastry.

And for pastry chefs worldwide, Agricacao promises this: "Innovation and tradition in every bite."

TENDER IS THE NIGHT

LOUIS

The night, with its enveloping darkness and mysterious charm, becomes a source of inspiration for festive fashion, where elegance and dream merge together.

Like in Tender Is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the collections tell stories of style and opulence, illuminating the darkest hours of the night with timeless elegance.

Sequins, shimmering embroidery, and surreal prints shine like stars in the sky, embellishing evening gowns with fluid silk cuts, structured jackets, and tailored suits that reinterpret glamour with deep necklines and sparkling details.

The literature of contemporary stylistic poetry is full of enigmas to solve. Black becomes the common thread, but the palette is also completed with shades of midnight blue, lilac, and moonlit silvers. Accessories, from jeweled clutches to shoes adorned with rhinestones and crystals, complete the look, while long, precious necklaces and dangling earrings add the final touch to ethereal looks. Plays of gazes, transparency, feathers, and savoir-faire. The firmament with its reflections is chosen to celebrate the modern romanticism of bold, sensual women, with a discreet and sophisticated style, for an authentic luxury inhabited by fine materials and stories with a sublime soul.

A delicate interweaving where femininity is measured in the small details and in the refinement of real emotions.

BRUNELLO CUCINELLI Fall Winter 2024/25

LOOKING FOR A NEW TOY? SORRY, YOU'RE LATE.

If there’s one thing Ferrari does better than anyone else, it’s creating cars that make grown adults weak at the knees. The new Ferrari F80 is no exception.

A fire-breathing marvel of design and technology, this beast has already broken hearts—not because of its 1,200 horsepower or jaw-dropping design, but because all 799 units have already been sold before a single one hit the road.

What makes the F80 so irresistible?

Let’s start with the numbers. It’s powered by a six-cylinder, three-litre full-hybrid engine, with an electric front axle contributing 300 of those 1,200 horses.

This combination rockets the F80 from 0 to 200 km/h in just 5.75 seconds, covering a mere 98 meters in the process. With a top speed of 350 km/h, it could probably give a fighter jet a run for its money.

Its design is equally outrageous, with clear aerospace influences and the kind of aggressive elegance only Ferrari

ferrari.com

can pull off. Inside, the driver’s seat is slightly ahead of the passenger’s, as if to say, “This is not a car for compromises.”

Every detail of the F80 feels like a love letter to speed, precision, and Maranello’s uncompromising pursuit of greatness.

But it’s not just fast; it’s clever. From 3D-printed suspension parts to the active suspension system and 1,050 kg of downforce keeping it glued to the asphalt, this car is as smart as it is stunning.

And, of course, it borrows technology from Ferrari’s Le Mans-winning World Endurance Championship car, because why wouldn’t it?

Priced at €3.1 million, the F80 is officially Ferrari’s most expensive road car ever.

Unfortunately, if you didn’t snag one during the brief allocation window, you’ll need to either hunt for a resale at twice the price or start looking for another dream gift. Good luck!

TrainPro Mirror: The Ultimate Home Training Revolution.

The Rise of Luxury Home Training. Home training has come a long way from dusty dumbbells and squeaky treadmills tucked in corners. Today, the landscape is dominated by sleek machines with futuristic tech, promising to turn any space - be it a living room, a garage, or even a yacht - into a high-end fitness hub.

But as impressive as these machines are, most still share a common downside: they hog space and often require multiple devices for different workouts. For those with limited room or a preference for uncluttered living, the excuses to avoid working out have been endless - until now. Enter the TrainPro Mirror, a game-changing fitness tool that crams an

entire gym into a stylish wall-mounted mirror. If you’ve ever claimed your yacht gym was too small, it’s time to find a new excuse.

My First Encounter with the TrainPro Mirror. When I first saw the TrainPro Mirror, I thought, “Great, another shiny fitness gadget I’ll use twice before it becomes a glorified selfie station.” But the Mirror is different. It’s not just beautiful - it’s intimidatingly functional. This isn’t just a mirror that gives you feedback on your form; it’s a complete workout solution that practically dares you to be lazy.

The sleek, minimalist design blends seamlessly into any space. Mounted on a wall, it looks more like a statement piece

than a workout machine. But once I turned it on, I realized this wasn’t just about aesthetics. From customizable resistance to real-time progress tracking, the TrainPro Mirror transforms fitness into an engaging, data-driven experience.

Training Tailored to You

The TrainPro Mirror feels like having a personal trainer (or several) packed into a single screen. It boasts an impressive ability to create fully personalized workout or rehabilitation programs. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, trying to build muscle, or simply looking to fit into last year’s jeans, the Mirror adjusts to your goals.

I tested its strength training capabilities first. The adjustable resistance, which can go up to a whopping 100 kg, allows for an insane range of exercises. With four resistance modesisotonic, eccentric, isokinetic, and hydrodynamic-it’s like having a multi-million-dollar gym at your fingertips. And don’t worry about fidgeting with knobs or sliders; Bluetooth buttons on the barbell and handles let you tweak resistance mid-workout. Smooth, right? For physiotherapy or lighter recovery days, the controlled movement tracking was a revelation.

The Mirror monitors the force you’re applying in every direction, ensuring you’re doing the movements safely and effectively-no risky maneuvers that might make you call your physiotherapist in a panic.

Group Training, Solo Results

One of the coolest features is Small Group Training. Picture this: you and a few friends or family members, each following your own personalized workout, while sharing the same space. The TrainPro Mirror creates a communal vibe without sacrificing individuality. It’s a great way to stay motivated, especially if, like me, you’re prone to slacking off when nobody’s watching.

Data, Music, and Motivation

Every workout session syncs with a dedicated app, tracking

your progress and offering immediate feedback. You can set goals, monitor your improvements, and get helpful data that keeps you engaged. And then there’s the music. The Mirror lets you play your favorite playlists to set the mood. Want Beyoncé to cheer you through squats? Done. Prefer classical tunes during a yoga stretch? Go for it. I didn’t realize how much of a difference this made until I tried it. Suddenly, I wasn’t just working out; I was vibing.

The TrainPro Mirror is perfect for anyone, anywhere. Whether you're in a physiotherapy center, a luxury hotel, or on a cruise ship (yes, it’s yacht-friendly), it adapts to every setting. Personal trainers will love its ability to monitor clients’ progress in real time. Luxury establishments will appreciate its sleek, high-end appeal. And home users like me? We just enjoy not tripping over stray dumbbells anymore.

Advanced Features: A Deep Dive Movement in All Directions: Complete freedom for exercises or rehab sessions, with precise control.

Custom Resistance Modes: TrainPro Mirror offers something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned athletes.

Real-Time Feedback: Forget guessing if you’re doing it right. The Mirror has you covered.

Space-Saving Elegance: It’s a gym that doubles as a fulllength mirror. No more sacrificing style for fitness.

My Verdict: No More Excuses

After a few weeks with the TrainPro Mirror, I’ve run out of reasons not to work out. It’s sleek, versatile, and ridiculously effective. Whether you’re aiming for a six-pack, recovering from an injury, or simply trying to keep up with your active kids, this tool delivers.

So, here’s the deal: you don’t need a giant home gym, piles of equipment, or even much space. All you need is a wall, a bit of determination, and the TrainPro Mirror. Oh, and maybe a good playlist-because, let’s face it, nothing motivates quite like your favorite tunes.

A NIGHT OF RUGBY GLORY IN MONTE CARLO

On November 24, 2024, the glitz and glamour of Monte Carlo set the stage for the annual World Rugby Awards.

Held at the prestigious Salle des Etoiles, the evening brought together rugby legends, celebrities, and royalty. Among the distinguished guests was Princess Charlene of Monaco, adding a royal touch to an already star-studded event.

In a night that celebrated both muscle and mind, it wasn’t just biceps on display but brains too. Antoine Dupont was awarded the "Men's Sevens Player of the Year", while the coveted "Player of the Year" title was claimed, for the second consecutive year, by South African Pieter-Steph du Toit.

The "Women's Player of the Year" was awarded to England's Ellie Kildunne for her exceptional performances throughout the year.

The evening’s branding, once again handled by Force One in collaboration with TBA, ensured the event was as visually stunning as it was memorable. The two teams brought a touch of class to the celebrations, turning the event into a true spectacle.

Among those inducted into the Hall of Fame was legendary Italian skipper Sergio Parisse, celebrated for his remarkable 142 caps in the Azzurri jersey. And while many big names walked away with awards, there was one notable snub – Rassie Erasmus, despite his coaching successes, didn’t claim any recognition this time. From the bright lights of the Salle des Etoiles to the roar of the crowd, the World Rugby Awards were a thrilling reminder that in rugby, it’s not just about strength; it’s about strategy, smarts, and unforgettable moments.

In a world where declaring the number of followers and clicks has become an obsessive demand, it's important to understand that if you work and live in luxury, factors such as credibility and the genuine exclusivity of the venues where you are visible are truly the only things that matter.

In luxury, less is more, as long as this "less" is the best one ;-)
