Our designers and artisans masterfully incorporate modern tastes with traditional weaving techniques. LOW BACK PAIN COMMON CAUSES Low back pain is one of the most common conditions we see at Ace Sports Clinic, with up to 80% of adults suffering from lower back pain in their lives. The prevalence rate for children and adolescents is lower than that seen in adults but is rising. Often, low back pain is of gradual onset, creeping in slowly, starting as occasional discomfort and eventually being a consistent uncomfortable or painful niggle. Sometimes it’s a full-blown crisis where we can barely move without intense pain in our back, hips and sometimes radiating into legs. In all of its forms, low back pain is often multifaceted in its origins and while it’s rare to identify only one cause, there are common culprits that we see. When one area is functioning poorly, we often find that the body compensates and shifts the blame elsewhere; meaning the source of the pain and the problem area may not be the same. This is why we can’t just look at the back when it comes to low back pain.
Here are 3 of the most common things we see which contribute to low back pain:
1. TIGHT HIP FLEXORS 2. LAZY GLUTES 3. POOR MOBILITY

The Pearle Hotel and Spa, Ontario’s first Autograph hotel, is located in the heart of Downtown Burlington, steps away from Lake Ontario, Spencer Smith Park, and the many attractions that Burlington has to offer. Located along the vibrant waterfront and perfectly situated halfway along the Toronto/Niagara corridor, this highly anticipated hotel destination will soon be ready for discovery. Opening in spring 2021, global award winning design firm, Studio Munge, envisioned a Modern Lakehouse that would offer guests the ultimate urban retreat experience, where luxury meets lifestyle and personal service makes for memorable occasions.
“The Pearle Hotel and Spa is a dream soon to be realized ” says Aaron Ciancone, President of the ownership group, Pearle Hospitality. Wedding Trends 2021
SEBASTIEN & SHEILA CENTNER, CANADA’S LEADING ENTERTAINING POWER COUPLE, PROVIDE THEIR INSIGHT INTO TRENDS IN WEDDING DÉCOR FOR 2021
For us, weddings represent the ultimate reason for gathering friends and family to celebrate together. Many brides have dreamt of their wedding day since they were little, and every couple has a unique vision as to how their wedding will look. Although this year weddings in their normal format have not been possible, we have still seen couples celebrate their special day with scaled-back versions of their initial plan. While it might not feel like it right now,
weddings of all sizes and scales will come back eventually, and many of our larger weddings planned for 2020 have simply decided to hold off until 2021. Whether it’s earlier 2021 or late 2021, we believe (being the eternal optimists) that people will come together to celebrate again soon, in groups, and with music and dancing, because to celebrate is humannature and nothing can keep humannature down.
For 2021 we look back at five of our favourite Eatertainment weddings from the past couple of years that demonstrate very differing looks, each of which we feel was ahead of its time and will make up the most popular décor trends for weddings in the coming years. So for all our brides and grooms out there dreaming of their perfect day, here’s to you and to your dream wedding.
Where modern and warmth combine for a truly unique setting.
Contemporary
chic
A modern look is not for everyone. While we love a minimalist and stark look ourselves, for many wedding clients modern may feel too cold. When our friends Brendan & Duane decided to tie the knot they wanted their personal modern aesthetic showcased but also wanted to create a warm environment for their closest friends and family to celebrate with them. This wedding had a very special twist as the grooms wanted to host the actual ceremony in the backyard of their home, but then also needed to find a suitably similar setting for the 200-plus guests to enjoy dinner and dancing afterwards. This was a dual-location wedding where bringing together a modern foundation with some richer more organic elements would create a contemporary setting as chic as the couple themselves. Invitations designed by the groom’s brother featured their first initials Photos: Laura May
intertwined, representing their connection and their shared future, a touching element that truly captured this amazing union. The ceremony featured traditional bamboo chivari chairs but with a more unique silver colour tone, and a non-traditional layout where guests surrounded the couple as they exchanged vows. The dinner was held in an empty warehouse, converted for the night into a stunning dining room featuring mirrored tables, modern black acrylic chairs, and an abundance of greenery and florals (one of the grooms is the owner of Brendan O’Brien Landscapes and including his passion for plants and florals was a key must-have). The grooms’ head table sat directly in the centre of their friends and family with a wall mural behind them featuring – fittingly – the intertwined initials B & D. Over the top
elegance
Of all the weddings we’ve hosted, Stephanie and Matt’s must have been the most over-the-top ever. With a ceremony held overlooking the lake, guests would never know they were sitting above what was normally the swimming pool – covered with a structure that took almost 3 weeks to build. And that was only the beginning…
It was the bride’s parents’ wish for their daughter to get married in their backyard and, while backyard weddings are not uncommon for us, when the bride also wants the room to be as elegant as a grand ballroom our creativity was pushed farther than ever before! Silver-grey fabric was used to line the interior of the tent ceiling and walls while
engineered flooring was installed to offer one of the most luxurious temporary environments guests would ever experience. A classic black-andwhite dance floor centred the room with greenery walls and topiaries providing a lush backdrop, and the entire space was lit to perfection with a combination of traditional chandeliers and theatrical lighting. From the first dance through the wee hours guests were transported to a world of elegance, opulence and glamour, proving once more that with a vision (and of course at Eatertainment) anything is possible, even creating the most elegant ballroom ever… in a backyard tent.

While intimate in size, this wedding was anything but simple.

glam

Opulence comes in many forms and when we first met Brittany and Ansel we were struck with how clear their vision was for their special day. While many of our clients have an idea of what they are looking for, Brittany had been building a ‘look-book’ of ideas for her perfect wedding for years.
tropical florals that would pop at the centre of each table.
While intimate in size, this wedding was anything but simple. Gold – Brittany’s favourite colour – can be challenging to incorporate without feeling traditional so we accented our gold chairs and tableware with more muted tones of linens and then balanced the look with bold
Brittany and Ansel wanted a wedding that would reflect classic glamour but not feel traditional in any way. With the ‘Ultra Glam’ look, their vision came to life and brought the elegance of a ‘Gatsby’ style into the lives of a young bride, groom and their friends.
The bride and groom were as passionate about their food styling as they were about their décor vision which led us to creating a menu that was as much a feast to the eyes as to the palette.

We focused on creating a warm and comfortable setting
Rustic
chic
So far the weddings we’ve featured have all had their own looks but each has been elegant in a way that cannot be missed. What we loved about Arlee and Jeff’s wedding was their insistence on not making their day about them necessarily but instead about their guests.
“Our favourite memories are made while enjoying a great meal with good friends” one of them said in our first meeting, and from there the ‘Rustic Chic’ wedding theme really took on new meaning. Less important were the florals, the cutlery, the glassware and even the linens (we didn’t use any) and instead we focused on creating a warm and comfortable setting that reflected what this amazing couple were all about. Long tables (we call them burgundean 24 | WINTER 2020/2021
style) filled with friends and family created an evening of great food and fantastic company that would be long remembered. While the more casual feel is not necessarily difficult to achieve, we had to constantly remind ourselves that this was after all a wedding. Guests would arrive all dressed up and expect an evening of elegance, and while it might not be elegant in a traditional manner, this wedding still be a grand affair Rustic weddings have recently become more and more popular both for their simplicity and sometimes because they can be executed with smaller budgets since there are less elements. Most of our clients, however, who choose a rustic theme do so because it speaks to their aesthetic and their personality. It is their special day after all and our job is to always have the wedding reflect the two most important people in the room. Photos: Tami Klein
Modern
elegance
We end with a wedding which brought together elements from all four of the themes featured so far, with Miyoshi and Chris’ wedding in Toronto at The One Eighty.
Photos: Laura May
Weddings come in all different sizes and budgets. Each is the most special day for the bride, groom, their family and friends. Whatever your choice of décor, Sheila and I always offer brides and grooms the same advice… Enjoy the day. Celebrate. Don’t sweat the little things, because before you know it the day will be over, and the day is the first of the rest of your lives together, so make it matter. Oh… and make sure you hire the right event company. Sebastien & Sheila Eatertainment Events & Catering @sebandsheila @sebcentner @sheilacentner @eatertainment
Often our wedding clients might not have a specific look or feel but rather lots of elements they love. It becomes our job to take all these ideas and build a cohesive décor plan that works as an overall environment. Fortunately eclectic works in décor, meaning that it is far less important for things to match than for things to suit each other. We see this in interior design, fashion, photography and now weddings.
Combining more traditional, less formal items like etched glasses and linen tablecloths, with modern elegant elements like acrylic chairs and gold rimmed china and cutlery brought a unique feel to this wedding. Florals in light hues of pink and blue were offset with white and green to balance the florals and then accented with unique elements like personalized individual place setting champagne bottles. The bride and groom wanted their wedding to bring together the people they love most with all the things they love most and this wedding certainly did that.

THE MACRO RISE OF MICRO
weddings
By Brooke Madden

It’s something you’ve fantasized forever or feared for always: planning your wedding. Whether you’re thoroughly thrilled or tremendously terrified, 2020 hasn’t made wedding planning easy on any couple. Modern couples face social distancing rules, travel restrictions, and perhaps, most dismally, a newfound illegality of dancing. Consequently, 2020 couples are seeking alternatives to the traditional 150+ person extravaganza. Not unlike the early 90’s Canadian music scene, “alternative” has emerged as wildly popular. Perhaps, even, the new mainstream? Introducing, Canada’s latest alternative movement: the micro wedding.
INVIDIATAMAGAZINE.COM | 29
MICRO
A micro wedding is exactly what it sounds like: a small wedding. Sized under 50 people, a micro wedding often operates on a shorter timeline and includes only the happy couples’ closest circle. That being said, we think newly engaged couple Mike Patrick and Nadia Conforti put it best: “The answer is, whatever the hell we want!”
Photo: Sandra Monaco | Venue: Whistle Bear
wedding
WHAT IS A
“We’re going to have something very beautiful and unique”
choosing
WHY ARE PEOPLE SMALL?
Creative Freedom “We’re dumping all traditions,” says the blushing bride-to-be. “There are no rules, and by going off script, we get to do anything we want.” Since micro weddings usually forgo the customs of a traditional wedding, modern couples are able to ditch the long white dress, Pachelbel’s Canon, and any other customs that they may have been doing merely in the name of “tradition.”
Supporting Local In these unprecedented times, supporting local businesses is more important than ever. A hotel ballroom can be swapped for your favourite local hotspot. This is something that the team at Toronto Micro Weddings values deeply, “We try to use venues that support the arts community, whether it is galleries, local restaurants, and local chefs or just local creative spaces. Everything from the cake to the wedding favours, and we have a Book Artist who makes your guest book, it’s about paying local artists who need the jobs at this point,” Tiffany comments.
Intimacy “We’re going to have something very beautiful and unique, and with the people that we rely on every day,” says Nadia. With a guest list of just 18, a micro wedding offers this couple a chance to connect with each of their guests in a way a larger wedding simply can’t. Instead of making small talk with second (or are they third?) cousins, plus ones, and ex-coworkers, couples who opt for micro are able to focus on the love they have for each other, and the people in their immediate circle. Spend The Way You Want Sizing down leaves more room for luxury, extravagance, and indulgence. But if you’re watching the wallet, industry expert and curator of Toronto Micro Weddings, Tiffany, recommends going small. “Even if you have the money, you don’t have to spend it,” she says. A smaller guest count gives couples more flexibility with their budget. “Invest in your marriage, not your wedding,” she adds.

SOLD? HERE’S WHERE TO LOOK! As is the Canadian way, wedding and event planners have been resilient this year. Plenty of organizations in Toronto and the GTA are offering micro wedding packages. Toronto Micro Weddings works with couples in the city and in the GTA as a one-stop-shop option, helping you plan all your wedding needs. Gone Sailing Adventures even offers micro wedding services on luxury yachts at sunset! “We offer unobstructed views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline,” comments founder and captain, Howie Colt. Sounds romantic to us! If, like Mike and Nadia, the city isn’t meeting your micro wedding needs, venturing out to wine counties like Niagara or Prince Edward County may fit your intimate style. All that’s left is to figure out your micro honeymoon! INVIDIATAMAGAZINE.COM | 31

Choosing the right kitchen island

The kitchen has always been the hub of the home, playing host to family and friends, inviting work and play in equal measure. And at the centre of every great kitchen is the island. Think of it as the heart of the home. Much more than just a surface for prepping, cooking, eating and entertaining, the kitchen island can also make a style statement. Needless to say, a kitchen island is an investment when it comes to the fashion and function of your space, and choosing the right one goes beyond just colour and countertop. Here are some factors to take into account. Let’s first look at the logistics of the modern kitchen. Whether it’s a brandnew build or a renovation, kitchens today are oftentimes part of a larger, openconcept space that’s open to the living and dining area, and sometimes the front entrance. That means the kitchen no longer exists as solely a utilitarian space, with pots, pans and chaos hidden from view. The kitchen has become a showpiece, and the island is that key transitional element, leading from the living and entertaining areas into a beautiful yet practical work space. Let’s break these down. Function is critical to every great interior, and especially so in the kitchen. This room happily takes the brunt of your daily tasks, from cooking and dining, to homework, R&R and storage. Your interior designer will factor your needs
into the island configuration and the overall kitchen design. The size of the kitchen will dictate the dimensions of the island. An island that’s too big will interrupt the traffic flow. Ensure you leave at least four feet around it to manoeuvre comfortably, with easy access to the sink, fridge and stove - your “work triangle.” The island itself should measure at least three feet wide by five feet long. Anything smaller will not be sufficient to accommodate seating, integrated appliances or storage space. If an island of this size doesn’t fit into your kitchen with a four feet buffer, question whether the space might be better suited to a table or a cart, or perhaps left empty. When it come to your island’s style, let your home’s overall aesthetic guide you.
This is key, particularly when working in an open-concept interior. Make your island “pop” by using a contrasting colour or countertop. For example, a kitchen with white cabinetry can look stunning with a dark, dramatic island. Lighting also serves as a practical but beautiful element, drawing the eye and illuminating this focal point within the greater space. As a designer, I believe the kitchen is the most significant room in any home, and it’s also the most expensive to renovate. Ensure you do it right the first time by working with a professional designer. An experienced designer will have hundreds of kitchens under their belt, and hopefully your vision for the space - and the finished result - will be one that meets your practical needs and aesthetic goals for many years to come.

My dad was an early riser, a hard worker, and he travelled extensively for business. As a 7 year old I started getting up extra early with him so that he and I could have breakfast together before he went off to the office or to catch a plane. Most mornings it was bacon and eggs and cereal that took up half of the space on our kitchen table, but it was often the stock charts of the business section of the Globe & Mail that took up the rest. It was during those early morning father/son breakfasts that I got my first lessons in investing. It was where I initially became aware of money, and that the money you make can in turn make more money back for you.
That traditional existence is fine for many advisors and many investors – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – or so they say. But as my client base was growing in relative wealth and sophistication, so too were the expectations that they had for their money. When we would look at their financial statements, this group of clients were seeing outsized growth and investment returns created in their own privately-held assets: their businesses and real estate holdings - which in direct comparison made their “traditional portfolios” look lazy, hectic, and often out of touch.
MONEY FOR MAIN STREET
The question then became: How can I get the same or similar experience of taxpreferred, tax-deferred, compounded growth in my investment portfolio that I see in my private business and personal real estate holdings?
I was hooked then – and now more than 35 years later I’m still hooked on that concept today. I first entered the It’s not that you “can’t”, By Adam J. Batstone, Founder & CEO investment industry but rather it’s more fair nearly 20 years ago, with and accurate to say that a traditional firm, providing traditional advice, giving it’s difficult for traditional advisors who offer traditional access to traditional products that provided traditional investment advice to provide access to the types of returns. WE HAVE BIG GOALS TO ACHIEVE, and we work tirelessly to ensure the success of the business. Our focus is on Wealth Creation versus Wealth Management, and we feel that is truly what sets us apart from the common Advisor/Client relationship that you would receive at a traditional financial services firm.
The client experience for us is at the forefront of decision making – from our Investment Offerings, to the simple communication pieces we put out. The main distinction between us and “the other guys” is that our clients are our partners, in the truest sense of the word. We don’t sell other people’s stuff. That’s easy to do, and that’s how most of the industry operates. We actually create the opportunities we bring forward. We are the first money in and the last money out on the deals and opportunities that we bring forward - an actual partnership. That simple act aligns our interests, which is not as common as you’d think. WE NEED TO THINK DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE WE HAVE A GOAL OF CREATING $1 BILLION IN VALUE FOR OUR STAKEHOLDERS BY THE YEAR 2030.
OUR CORE VALUES CREATE & CONTRIBUTE TO COMMUNITY

Our firm is built on a solid set of core values that we follow as our guiding principles. It was important for us to establish the business with a strong foundation in order to provide the “different” experience we were striving for. We circle back to these values weekly. In order to keep Two Sevens Capital true to its belief system, we measure success not only with great performance and client satisfaction, but also with the adherence to our own values.

CROSSBORDER MARRIAGE AND THE IRS: NUPTIALS MAY BRING NEW TAX OBLIGATIONS Planning a wedding can be an exciting and stressful time in a couple’s life. There’s so much to think about – the flowers, the cake, the venue, the fact that you are a U.S. citizen and your spouse-to-be owns a Canadian corporation… Oh. You hadn’t thought about that yet? If you are a U.S. citizen who is about to marry a Canadian, and that Canadian is a shareholder in a Canadian corporation (or any corporation outside of the U.S.), it’s time to get up to speed on your new reporting obligations to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
This is known as “constructive ownership” and it isn’t the most straightforward of tax rules. It means – using the
irector & Founder ng D agi an
According to Internal Revenue Code section 6046(c), “…stock owned directly or indirectly by a person (including, in the case of an individual, stock owned by members of his family) shall be taken into account. For purposes of the preceding sentence, the family of an individual shall be considered as including only his brothers and sisters (whether by the whole or half blood), spouse, ancestors, and lineal descendants.”
,M
To the IRS, a foreign corporation is a great mechanism for hiding taxable income. And as far as the IRS is concerned, if you have a close relative who owns at least 10% of the stock in a Canadian or other foreign corporation, you could magically become a U.S. citizen who has acquired or owns at least 10% of the stock in a foreign corporation. Even if you don’t.
More specifically, under the constructive ownership rules, if the U.S. person does not directly own or control stock and their spouse-to-be who does own stock is a nonresident alien (i.e. a person who does not have U.S. tax obligations), the U.S. person has Ele na only acquired foreign stock and has a Ha ns one-time filing requirement for Form 5471. This individual is considered a “Category 3” filer. There are five categories of filer that are relevant to Form 5471, but a Category 3 is the most likely scenario in the event of a crossborder marriage. on
It’s no secret that the U.S. government likes to keep tabs on the earnings and wealth of its citizens. In fact, the IRS requires that U.S. citizens and green card holders, regardless of residency status, must report on their worldwide income and assets on an annual basis. This is particularly true when it comes to offshore accounts or holdings that could have the appearance of being a means to hide income and assets from the watchful eye of the IRS.
example of a U.S. citizen marrying the owner of a foreign corporation – if you are a U.S. citizen and you marry someone who owns stock in a foreign corporation, you should report this as your own inherited / imaginary foreign ownership interest to the IRS via Form 5471, Information Return of U.S. Persons with Respect to Certain Foreign Corporations.
This is a very high-level explanation of this filing requirement for U.S. citizens who marry an owner of a foreign corporation. For detailed definitions on the various filing categories, see the instructions to Form 5471.
If a crossborder marriage is what you are about to embark upon, you may want to set aside the cake tasting and seating arrangements for a moment to consider the constructive ownership rules and any other rules that could come into effect on the day of your nuptials. Overlooking U.S. tax obligations typically comes with punitive action on the part of the IRS. In the case of Form 5471, failing to file could result in up to a $60,000 penalty for the U.S. citizen spouse. But there’s no need to get cold feet! While it may sound a bit scary, a reputable advisor who understands taxation of U.S. citizens and the possible complications of crossborder marriage can help ensure your walk down the aisle is worry-free…at least from a tax perspective.

1110 MORRISON HEIGHTS DRIVE, OAKVILLE A modern masterpiece. The inspiration from homeowner Mark Cummings was to build a truly modern Miami-style home in the sought-after neighbourhood of Southeast Oakville. He assembled a talented team to bring his dream home to reality. Helder Aguiar and Brendan Daly from Element Modern Dwelling along with Joel Tanner from SMPL Design Studio, came together to custom build this captivating Estate. Mark, Helder, Brendan and Joel sat at his dining room table for many evenings, and often into the early morning hours, while Mark outlined his specific image for each room in the home. The vision included seamless flow throughout, large spacious rooms, incorporating natural light to illuminate each room from sunrise to sunset. “To have the opportunity to design from day one with an incredible team is a true gift. We spent

many hours planning out every intricate detail while taking advantage of observing things like the sunset from the home’s spectacular location,” said Mark. Every square inch of the 10,946 square feet was meticulously planned out for maximum living space. Joel comments, “The home is perfectly symmetrical. The idea behind creating modern spaces is clean lines and large room sizes for maximum exposure to the natural light.” Helder adds, “Architecture is driven by the overall vision and landscape. We wanted to incorporate the views while maintaining privacy, and we accomplished just that.” “The grand spaces were driven by the most extensive structural steel composition and assembly that I have ever seen in a home” noted Brendan.

The ceiling heights and room sizes ensure substantial room to move about, relax, and entertain. The kitchen truly is the heart of this home. The location was selected to ensure a flood of natural light bursts through the oversized windows. The upgrades include Miele appliances with built-in double-wall oven, coffee maker, panelled dishwasher, induction stovetop, and many more. There is ample storage in the custom cabinets by Devon Fine Cabinetry.
The sizeable 24-foot centre island has seating for six, perfect for special occasions and everyday meals. The massive sliding doors lead to the rear patio and spectacular views.
At the end of the day, melt stress away by the biofuel fireplace. The upper level boasts 5-foot-wide hallways and built-in lighting to illuminate at night. The Master Suite is simply divine with oversized windows overlooking the rear gardens. At the end of the day, melt stress away by the biofuel fireplace. The his-and-her dressing room provides a built-in closet organizer and cabinetry to accommodate an extensive wardrobe, purses, shoes, and jewellery. The closet leads to the 6-piece spa-inspired master ensuite. Sunlight beams through the windows accentuating the oversized double vanities with marble countertops, spacious shower, heated flooring, and a skylight to gaze through while soaking in the oversized tub with custom faucets. The upper level features three additional bedrooms, with ensuites complete with European style showers and floating toilets, designed for privacy and cozy living.
The lower level was designed with relaxation and entertainment top of mind. The bar and kitchen areas are perfect for crafting a favourite appetizer or cocktail. Make weekend plans to enjoy the theatre room and a workout in the gym. The lower level also boasts an additional bedroom, with an ensuite, for guests or a live-in nanny.
PROPOSED RENDERING.
You must experience this property to know how truly special it is. Designed for comfort and luxury living. No detail was left to chance. Helder, Brendan, Joel and the entire team personally created and implemented Mark’s vision creating a modern Estate designed and built to perfection.

HRISTOPHER INVIDIATA is an industry leader continually pursuing excellence and opportunity. His career began when he formed his first company at 19 called Carducci, a manufacturer of jewelry and leather goods. A boutique shop located in Eatons department store, Montreal. After being forced to close Carducci due to the recession in the 1981, at 21, he moved into the fashion industry selling luxury clothing from Italy and Germany into high-end retail stores. He was frequently on the road with this faced-paced career, and as a result, he was away in Edmonton when his daughter, Shae, took her first steps. That day, he decided he needed to be closer to home, never again
to miss these meaningful family moments. His father, a medical doctor, steered him towards the real estate business as it catered perfectly to his skills. He was good at selling, great with people, and a real estate career is locally based. Seeking a mentor to help him learn the business in his early days, he met Korrie-Sue Marshall, who became an important part of learning the business from the ground up. She advised Christopher to go all in, leaving the fashion world behind, as it is the only way to be truly successful. Christopher remarks, “She taught me how to dig in corners, treat clients with respect, and put deals together, which turned out to be invaluable advice.”
As a new agent, one way to build your database was to knock on doors. Armed with ambition, Christopher began door knocking. After several rejections, he finally landed a YES. That all-important first client taught him the importance of listening to your client and acting in their best interest. Christopher comments, “We sold conditional on a lakefront property worth $800K, we had to sell his home and received notice another offer was accepted. We decided to pull out to ensure my client wasn’t overextended. We later found him a home that was perfect for his budget and timeline. Since that day, the pair have bought and sold many properties together and have built a lasting friendship.”
INVIDIATAMAGAZINE.COM | 105
Christopher got his start at Canada Trust but quickly realized his values and entrepreneurial spirit were better suited for RE/MAX. He joined RE/MAX 35 years ago, and the rest, as they say, is history. What is the secret to a 35-year career in real estate? Christopher comments, “You need the heart of a doctor and the mind of a general. Real estate is all about managing relationships and expectations. Buying and selling homes invoke an array of emotions that need to be navigated with service excellence to ensure the client is 100% happy.” After each successful transaction, he would take his clients to dinner to thank them. Through this practice, he grew his database with referrals and hired an assistant to help keep track of the potential new business. Early on, his assistant’s role was to implement his program for buyers and for sellers. He credits his early success to systemizing his services. By doing so, his clients and staff always knew exactly what to expect.

Christopher adds, “Having a clear picture ensures a smooth transaction and leaves nothing to chance. We have a great skill of assessing what we need to accomplish when mapped out in detail. With clear systems in place, it was, and still is, imperative to serve from a place of gratitude. Christopher says with an open heart, “When you serve from a place of gratitude, others
feel it - you emit an aura of love and appreciation. Clients feel a protectiveness and know instinctively you won’t do them any harm. You always have your client’s best interest at heart, thus forming an unbreakable bond and the trust that develops strengthens the relationship.” This philosophy is the foundation of the Invidiata brand.
When you serve from a place of gratitude, others feel it - you emit an aura of love and appreciation. Clients feel a protectiveness and know instinctively you won’t do them any harm. You always have your client’s
best interest at heart. In recent years, Invidiata began exploring ways to improve revenue opportunities for his agents. He discussed updated revenue models with RE/MAX, but the solutions available fell short. As a result, he was on the verge of starting his own brokerage when his consultant introduced him to eXp Realty. While Christopher spent seven months researching, he discovered the revenue and share ownership potential eXp Realty had to offer was exactly what he’d been planning.
INVIDIATAMAGAZINE.COM | 107
Michael Valdes, former VP of International Growth for Realogy Corporation, is now the President of eXp Global. Michael remarks, “I got to know Christopher as we worked through the early stages. He cares deeply about his agents and his industry. As our business relationship developed, a great friendship also formed.” What drew Michael to eXp was how the company had disrupted the real estate world and how their model translated across the globe. “Where you live isn’t important. You operate where you are licensed to do so, but you can grow your revenue line globally as eXp is a cloud-based company. We treat everyone as an equal. There are no gatekeepers – it is an open-door policy for anyone who wants to learn.” With every resource and opportunity available online, eXp is the future of real estate. Within the eXp structure, the Invidiata brand will be maintained and supported. With no franchise or marketing fees, Invidiata will remain the strong luxury brand we know and love, powered by eXp. Christopher defines luxury real estate as a sophistication of service excellence and unmatched calibre marketing that provides the customer with the ultimate real estate experience. This is sought after as it compliments the refined lifestyle. Having come from the fashion industry in the 1980s, where brands were linked to a person’s identity, Invidiata understands the importance and power of a brand. Both eXp and Invidiata live up to their reputation for being the best in the business.
The unmatched
opportunities
eXp
produces has the
Real Estate industry buzzing. AS THE OAKVILLE INVIDIATA OFFICE TRANSITIONED TO eXp IN OCTOBER, remarkably, there were no complaints, delays, or frustrations. The transition was seamless, leaving the staff excited about the new opportunities before them. Christopher comments, “As the leader, it is my job to listen to complaints and remedy them. Through this transition, I didn’t receive one complaint – not one. Each team member showed great enthusiasm for the future of real estate and for being leaders in this innovative shift in the real estate industry.” As the world experiences the uncertainly of a global pandemic, virtual access allows agents to operate safely within a proven structure. The world of eXp operates in the cloud, enabling agents to work with their clients 100% virtually or at the kitchen table, depending on their comfort level. eXp now has 38,000 agents and continues to add roughly 1,000 agents monthly. In a year where COVID-19 has halted many industries’ growth, eXp has increased its revenues 100% year-over-year. As we move into 2021, the world of real estate has so much to offer; for Invidiata, joining eXp was the first step into unveiling the future of real estate. 108 | WINTER 2020/2021
You can operate within a team or grow your own team, which offers incredible earning potential. When you bring a new team member on board, they receive company stock. The revenue share program is unique in the industry, and a great retirement plan for agents. The world is your platform, and the options for growth are expansive; it is the future of real estate, and the future is now.
