Decking the halls

Every year I photograph many families. Each is unique; some are small, while others include generations. One thing almost all of my clients ask about is how to decorate with their pictures, not just posting them to Facebook and Instagram, where they tend to be forgotten. Oh, there are so many clever ways to display printed pictures around the house. So why not print those favorite photos and start decorating? Not sure where to start? Here are several beautiful inspirational displays that are sure to wow, none of which is cheesy, I promise!
Going out on a ledge
Construct or purchase a photo ledge, then fill it with different prints of varying sizes. I love the cohesive collected look, as well as the mix of personal pictures and artwork. We just purchased a new home and have a ledge next to our stairs going downstairs and this is exactly what I have done. So, time to stock up on frames! Insider Note: My favorite frames are from Hobby Lobby or IKEA for this look. Their frames are built really well, and they have so much variety that will match anyone’s home décor style.
Make a masterpiece of minis
Do you own an instant printer? I just purchased one and am taking inspiration from Scott and Kim Yargo’s amazing display. The couple behind Yellow Brick Home opted to place their instant photos in a small shadowbox frame. This is an excellent way to showcase favorite memories, even if space is limited. If you have digital images from your sessions, this is a neat way to showcase more of them in one unique wall piece when space is limited. Adding captions
ensures you’ll never forget where each photo was taken.
Create an oversized gallery wall
Hang big family photos (with tons of personality!) in a uniform pattern to make this stunning gallery wall. I bet this will get lots of attention from friends and visitors who swing by this holiday season. Plus, kids will love seeing themselves as they walk down the hallway. I hope this gives some ideas of what to do with your precious family pictures. No matter what you decide, take the time to celebrate your loved ones. Doing so will leave a lasting legacy for your family for years to come.
