How to use essential oils 1. TOPICALLY Many essential oils are safe and beneficial to use directly on the skin.
Place 1-3 drops of essential oil directly on the desired area and massage in. Repeat as desired. Always follow the label’s dilution instructions.
Caution: Essential oils are very potent and may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs, apply a pure carrier oil or Young Living V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex to the area to dilute.
2. AROMATICALLY Use essential oils aromatically to uplift the mood and spirit.
Rub 1-2 drops of essential oil between your palms and inhale. Add a few drops of essential oils to a bowl of hot (not boiling) water. Cover your head and bowl with a towel. Breathe deeply and slowly. Use 4-8 drops of your favourite essential oils in a diffuser.
The vita flex technique This technique for the foot uses a press, roll, and release motion that covers the area of the vita flex or pressure point. It is repeated three times using 1-3 drops of essential oils.
Safety tips Dilute when necessary. Carrier oils ensure that essential oils applied topically are comfortable to the skin. Dilution with a carrier oil does not dilute the effect of the essential oil. In fact, it prevents waste due to excessive application. Look for dilution ratios on Young Living essential oil bottles. “Hot oils” are oils that can cause a hot or warming sensation when applied to the skin. YL recommends using a patch test procedure prior to first use. If you experience a hot or burning sensation or develop a rash, add V-6 or another carrier oil to the affected area as often as needed.
Less is more. Start low and go slow. Young Living Essential oils are very powerful, so start low and go slow. Excessive use of essential oils may increase the risk for adverse reactions. In most cases, 1–2 drops are adequate, and using more may waste product. Depending on the essential oil, you can gradually build up to 3–4 uses per day, if desired. Follow the proper usage instructions printed on each essential oil label.
Avoid contact with sensitive areas. Avoid contacting sensitive areas such as eyes, ears, genitals, and mucous membranes with essential oils. If you choose to use the oil in any sensitive area, dilute 1 drop of the essential oil with 5–10 drops of V-6 or another carrier oil.
Citrus oils and the sunlight. Some essential oils, especially citrus oils, contain natural molecules that react with sunlight (UV light) and cause a sensitivity reaction. Young Living labels the essential oils and oil blends that contain these compounds with a warning to avoid sun/UV light for 12–48 hours after applying. Always use caution when starting to use a new oil. To reduce the risk of sensitivity, use patch testing.
Pregnancy and nursing. As with any medical condition, we strongly recommended that prior to using essential oils, you seek the advice and recommendation of a competent, trained health care advisor who is experienced in essential oil usage. Some people choose to avoid overuse and excessive use of Clary Sage, Sage, Idaho Tansy, Hyssop, Fennel, and Wintergreen, as well as the blends and supplements that contain these oils.
Essential oils and children. Many essential oils are appropriate for use on children but should be diluted with a carrier oil prior to use. Some Young Living products come pre-diluted with carrier oil, as indicated on product labels, and are intended for direct application on children. You can dilute 1–2 drops of essential oil such as RutaVaLa, Gentle Baby, and Peace & Calming with a carrier oil and apply to the bottoms of the feet.
Medical Conditions. If you have a disease or medical condition or are using a prescription medication, it is recommended that prior to using an essential oil, to consult with a health care advisor who has experience with essential oils. Seek the advice of the prescribing physician and a pharmacist about potential interactions between any medication and essential oils.

Lavender Essential Oil Uses:

Create a spa-like retreat by combining 1 cup Epsom salt and 4 drops oil and adding to a hot bath. Make a basic homemade body scrub with coconut oil, sugar, and Lavender essential oil. Unwind with a Lavender-infused neck or back massage. Use Lavender as part of your evening routine. Rub oil on the bottom of your feet before bed or spritz your pillow with distilled water and Lavender mixed in a spray bottle. Create a DIY room freshener with Lavender or diffuse it to banish stale odours.

Lemon (Citrus limon) has a strong, clean, purifying citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. It consists of 68 percent d-limonene, a powerful antioxidant. University researchers in Japan found when aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50%. Caution: Citrus oils should not be applied to skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light within 72 hours.

Dust this mixture all over prior to vacuuming to help get rid of odours like feet, wet dog, dirt, etc. 1 cup baking soda 1 cup Borax 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil 10 drops of Purification Essential Oil Mix this in a jar and poke holes in the top to easily sprinkle the carpet freshener, or 'throw' it around your room as if you're sowing seeds. Let it sit for 15-20 min and hoover. Enjoy the fresh scent afterwards.
Toilet Cleaner Now, this doesn’t come out blue like typical toilet bowl cleaners, but it sure does the job! You could use an old shampoo squirt bottle for easy application. 1/4 cup Dr. Bronners Castile soap 2 Tbsp Baking soda 10 drops Lemon Essential Oil 5 drops Thieves Essential Oil Fill remainder with water Bonus Tip: Add a drop of Thieves or Orange oil to the cardboard inside of the toilet paper holder to help freshen the bathroom.
