...για την ποικιλία και το σημειωτικό απόθεμα του εκφραστικού είδους STILL LIFE. Έκθεση οπτικo-ακουστικού υλικού και κείμενο θέσεων... Μπορούμε πάντα και συνεχώς να εντοπίζουμε και να εγκαθιστούμε τον εαυτό (τον νου) σε μία έκτακτη περιοχή νοήματος και εκεί να γυμναζόμαστε στην παρατήρηση, την διαπραγμάτευση και την επόμενη διαμόρφωση ενός ομοιότροπου στοχαστικού και λογικού αποτελέσματος (ενός γραπτού κειμένου ή μιάς ψηφιακής, πλέον, καταγραφής λόγου και πράξεων), που συγκρατεί και περιγράφει κριτικά, τροφοδοτεί το ρίζωμα και αναμένει την ανθοφορία των σχέσεων και των πράξεων των ανθρώπων σε σχέση με την ειδική αυτή περιοχή νοήματος και την σύνδεσή της με τον κόσμο. Μπορούμε, πολύ περισσότερο, να εκθέσουμε αναλυτικά την περιγραφή για αυτή την εξελίξη, την ισχυρή πλοκή και συνάρτησή της με τα καινοφανή και προτεινόμενα (στην ψηφιακή βάση δεδομένων vimeo αλλά και σε κάθε άλλη διαθέσιμη ψηφιακή βάση) νέα εκφραστικά αποτελέσματα (video) που πλέον διατίθενται διαπαντός, συγκροτούν αποκλειστικά και καθορίζουν ιδεολογικά αυτή την ενοποιητική σκέψη. Ακόμη περισσότερο, μπορούμε να αδράξουμε κάθε νέα ευκαιρία συμπλοκής με την ενδελεχή διερεύνηση λιμνάζοντος και εξουδετερωμένου περιεχομένου (π.χ. Τόσο η χρονική απόσταση από το ιστορικό απόθεμα, η διαρκής, διαθέσιμη και ασφαλής εποπτεία αυτής της περιοχής νοήματος (ψηφιακό διαθέσιμο υπόβαθρο έργων και σχολίων) όσο και η ραγδαία αλλαγή του πληροφοριακού περιβάλλοντος έκδοσης και διανομής αναφορών για την ειδική κριτική διαχείρισή του προκάλεσαν την δραστική αλλαγή στην επιθυμία και την ελεύθερη επιλογή μίας και πολλαπλών ταυτόχρονα θέσεων παρατήρησης αλλά, κυρίως, τον αισθητικό μετασχηματισμό της θεματικής ταυτότητάς του που ενέπνευσε εντέλει αυτό το διάβημα.

...On the variety and the semiotic fund of the representational genre STILL LIFE Exposition of audiovisual material and text of supporting positions...

We may perennially and forever locate and install the self (the mind) within an exceptional area of meaning and, there, train in the observation, negotiation and subsequent reformulation of a cohesive reflective and rational outcome (a written text or, nowadays, a digital record of speech and actions) which circumscribes and critically expounds, feeds back into the rhizome and awaits the blooming of people’s thoughts and actions in relation to that special area of meaning and its connection with the world. We may, moreover, analytically expound the description relevant to this development, its powerful engagement and confluence with the proposed (in the digital database vimeo and in every available digital database) cutting-edge expressive outcomes (vimeo) which are now available once and for all, constituting exclusively and ideologically determining this unitary thinking.

Even further, we may seize every new opportunity to engage in the assiduous exploration of stagnant and neutralized content (e.g. landscape painting, still life, portrait) so as to creatively reflect on its most unstable potential, determine and publicize the program of the subsequent innovative and feasible course of thinking and attractive practices regarding it, due both to the more mature and forceful mental capacity for delineating that particular meaning and those practices which bound it in times past and also, now, to the rapid change in the technological substratum and techincal method which make possible the new reflective intervention.

The temporal distance from the historical fund, the continuous, available and secure supervision of that area of meaning (the available digital substratum of works and commentary) as well as the rapidly occuring changes in the information environment for the issuing and distribution of reference for its particular critical assesment, have caused a radical shift in the desire and free choice of a position of observation (singular and multiple, simultaneously) but, mainly, in the aesthetic refashioning of its thematic identity which instigated this undertaking to start with.

So, then, I publicize and exhibit here the specific personal experiential fund of my investigatory and reflective relation with the successive practices and accompanying ideology of the repre-

Εκδίδω λοιπόν, εδώ, και εκθέτω δημόσια το ειδικό και προσωπικό εμπειρικό απόθεμα από την διερευνητική και αναστοχαστική σχέση μου με τις αλλεπάλληλες πρακτικές και την συνοδό ιδεολογία αυτής της τεχνικής της απεικόνισης που συμβατικά αποδεχόμαστε και ονομάζουμε STILL LIFE («ακίνητη» ή «νεκρή», ή «καθηλωμένη» φύση), καθώς και τα απαραίτητα προσαρτημένα και εξαρτημένα είδωλα παραδείγματα. Πολύ περισσότερο, εγχειρίζωντας στο ψηφιακό συνεχές αυτό το αποτέλεσμα μεταθέτω εξαιρετικά, επικαιροποιώ και καθορίζω διαφορετικά το παλαιό περιεχόμενό του. Εντέλει, εγκαθιστώ και προτείνω το γίνωμα του νεαρότερου και ωριμότερου στοχασμού επί αυτού αλλά και επί των ιδιοτήτων των αντικειμένων φορέων αυτής της σχέσης (πίνακες, φωτογραφίες, κείμενα κριτικής και στοχασμού). Η επιτοίχια απεικόνιση, η υδατογραφία, η ελαιογραφία και η ψηφιακή πλέον διαπραγμάτευση του ίδιου και ποικίλου ταυτόχρονα περιεχομένου συναποτελούν την διαρκή ιστορική δήλωση και ανάπτυξη του still life ιδιώματος, συνιστώντας και συγκροτώντας ένα συμπαγές περιεχόμενο για την επιθυμία και την εκδήλωση αυτής της επιθυμίας του ανθρώπου να γιορτάζει την ιστορική ανάδυσή του και την παραμονή του στην περιοχή της ελεγχόμενης αυτάρκειας, της οικονομίας της μέριμνας, της σωτήριας συσσώρευσης αποθέματος, ώστε να διασχίζει ελεύθερος κόπου τον χρόνο της εποχικής σπάνης. Της τεχνικής ικανότητάς του να εκτείνει την επιθυμία του και να συλλέγει ό,τι είναι δυνατό και θέλει. Της ικανότητάς του να ξεπερνάει το όριο της αυτάρκειας και να εκτρέπει την επιθυμία του στην περιοχή της απόλαυσης του αντικειμένου ως φορέα πλέον δύναμης και δυνατότητας, μιας διεστραμμένης δηλαδή εκδήλωσης και σταθεροποίησης ενός νοήματος εχθρικού ως προς τον ηθικό ορισμό της ουσίας του και της θέσης του στον κόσμο του συλλογικού κοινού νοήματος. Με τον ίδιο τρόπο, οι αιγύπτιοι ιερείς τοιχογράφοι, οι τεχνίτες της Πομπηίας και της Μινωικής Εποχής, ο Joachim Beuckelaer, η Maria van Oosterwijk, ο Peter Paul Rubens, ο Luis Melendez και ο Rembrandt γιορτάζουν. Νοηματοδοτούν, δηλαδή, δια του σχεδίου, του χρώματος και της σύνθεσης, σχολιάζοντας ανεξέλεγκτα τη νέα ιστορική συνθήκη εντός της οποίας διαβιούν και ήδη απολαμβάνουν διαρκώς τα δείγματά της. Τη στιγμή εκείνη, δηλαδή, που αυτοί οι ορισμένοι και λίγοι, ακόμη, έξοχοι τεχνίτες και φτωχοί στοχαστές μετασχηματίζουν σε εικόνα τη δυνατότητά τους να προσέχουν, να καρπώνονται, να τροφοδοτούνται, να διασκεδάζουν, επειδή η εποχή της τρομερής ανάγκης έχει ήδη παρέλθει και η νέα εποχή της αφθονίας, των συλλογών και των αποθηκεύσεων προτείνει

sentational technique conventionally accepted and designated as STILL LIFE (“unmoving” or “dead” or “fixed” life) alongside the requisite attendant and conditioned exemplary images. More than this, by inserting this outcome into the digital continuum, I critically transfer, render relevant and provide an alternative determination of the old content. Finally, I posit and recommend the advent of the latest and more mature reflection on this and on the qualities of the objects that are the bearers of that relation (paintings, photographs, critical and reflective texts).

The mural, the watercolor, the oil painting and now the digital treatment of the same, varied content, together make up a persisting historical statement and development of the still life idiom, comprising and articulating a solid content for man’s desire to celebrate the emergence within and occupation of a zone of controlled self-sufficiency, of an economy of care, of a life-saving accumulation of reserves, so that he may be able to move unmolested through the times of seasonal scarcity. The desire to celebrate his technical capacity of extending the range of his desire and collect what he will, when he may. His ability to transcend the restrictions of self-sufficiency and divert his desire into the realm of enjoyment of an object as a bearer of power and potential, that is, of a perverse manifestation and establishment of a meaning hostile to the definition of his moral essence and his place in the world of communal, shared meaning.

In like fashion, the Egyptian priest-muralists, the artisans of Pompei and of Minoan times, Joachim Beuckelaer, Maria van Oosterwijk, Peter Paul Rubens, Luis Melendez and Rebrandt celebrate. That is to say, they imbue meaning by means of design, color and composition, commenting without restraint on the new historical condition within which they live and whose specimens/samples they are already, constantly enjoying. The moment, that is, when those spefific, and still few, outstanding artisans and poor thinkers transform into imagery their ability to give their attention, to benefit, to get fuel and entertainment, because the time of terrible need has already passed and the new era of abundance, of collections and storing, suggests and makes feasible a wealth of possibilities. The artisan representationists comment and question, flirt and fall in love with, all the possibilitiew of their time. They have at their disposal the exceptional fabrics for winter, when their survival would be tested, and they have, moreover, the fabrics with which they will cover their heavy and still artless tables and chairs, transforming their symbolic and precise meaning into myth. They have the exceptional and luminous fruit of their seasons, the fruit of the Mediterranean, though they are in the protestant

την και εκτείνει κάθε δυνατότητα. Οι τεχνίτες απεικονιστές σχολιάζουν και ερωτούν, ερωτεύονται και ερωτοτροπούν με όλες τις δυνατότητες της εποχής τους. Έχουν στη διάθεσή τους τα εξαιρετικά υφάσματα για τον χειμώνα όπου θα δοκιμαστεί η επιβίωσή τους, έχουν, πολύ περισσότερο, τα υφάσματα με τα οποία θα καλύψουν τα βαριά και άτεχνα ακόμη τραπέζια και τα καθίσματά τους μετασχηματίζοντας σε ισχυρό μύθο τη συμβολική και ακριβή σημασία τους. Έχουν τα εξαιρετικά και υπέρλαμπρα άνθη των εποχών τους, τα φρούτα της Μεσογείου, ενώ βρίσκονται στον προτεσταντικό Βορρά της δοκιμασίας του καιρού και των εποχών αλλά και των άτεγκτων ιδεολογικών ισοδυναμιών της εγκατεστημένης θεολογικής ισορροπίας με το ιδεώδες τους. Έχουν τα υλικά και τα νομίσματα ενός πιθανού, πλέον, και δυνατού, σταθερού τόπου διαμονής και τρόπου διατροφής ανεξάρτητου από το φυσικό πρόγραμμα και την ηθική σύνταξη των εποχών τους. Έχουν τα πολύτιμα και σπάνια σκεύη των ονείρων τους, τα συνδετήρια αντικείμενα με όλους τους θρύλους και τις συντριπτικές επί της βούλησης αφηγήσεις για τις περιοχές της μεταφυσικής ρύθμισης των πειθαρχιών της ζωής τους. Έχουν και αναζητούν με μανία να έχουν ακόμη, πολύ περισσότερο, τις οπτικές αφηγήσεις για την διέξοδό τους, την απομάκρυνσή τους από την πραγματικότητα των αισθητηρίων τους δεδομένων στην περιοχή της μαγικής συνθήκης των απεικονισμένων ιδεών, που δυνάστευε τότε και δυναστεύει ακόμη και τώρα και για πολύ ακόμη την διανοητική τους/μας δυνατότητα για μια ελεύθερη και αυτόνομη, μια εύρωστη ζωή. Επιδίωξαν λοιπόν να έχουν αυτά τα ασήμαντα τεχνουργήματα (πίνακες) ως αιτήματα και μαγικά ξόρκια, δείκτες της επιθυμίας τους, των παθών τους. Εργαλεία της αποκοπής τους από την ακριβή, συμπαγή, ακέραιη και ακαριαία σχέση τους με την ζωή. Έτσι όπως ήταν. Ακριβώς. Όπως εμείς, σήμερα, τώρα, με τον ίδιο τρόπο έχουμε και εγκαθιστούμε συνεχώς τις ίδιες επιθυμίες, τα ίδια μαγικά ξόρκια για τα θέλω μας και τα έωλα έχω μας στους χώρους και τα στοχαστικά πεδία των δικών μας διελεύσεων στην πραγματικότητα. Το σώμα μιάς γυμνης γυναίκας ή ενός άντρα ως δείκτη του θέλω ή του έχω, του επιθυμώ ή του υπομένω. Το ακριβό και θηριώδες μηχάνημα-μήνυμα για την ειδική θέση μακριά και ψηλότερα από τους άλλους. Το σύμβολο μιας θέσης στην κοινωνική ιεραρχία, την έδρα της διαφοράς και όχι της ενότητάς με τον/την σύντροφο άλλο. Σώμα, μηχάνημα, θέση. Σύμβολα και εκλεκτικές απεικονίσεις. Υλικές διαβεβαιώσεις και αφηγήσεις, δυνατότητες και ενδεχόμενα για την εγκατάσταση και τη διατήρηση μιας ισχυρής διαφοράς.

North with its trying climate and, also, the stringent ideological equivalence between the established theological order and their metaphysical ideal. They have the materials and the coinage of a possible and, now, attainable, stable place of residence and a diet that is emancipated from the natural cycle and the moral syntax of their times. They have the precious and rare vessels of their dreams, the bridging objects with all the legends and will-crushing narratives concerning the metaphysical regulation of their life regime. They possess, and fervently seek to possess even further, the visual narratives of their exit, the distance gained, from the reality of their sensory perceptions into the area of the magical condition of visually rendered ideas, which ruled over (as it still does and will do for a long time) their/our mental capacity for a free, autonomous and robust life.

They sought, then, to have these insignificant artifacts (paintings) as incantations and magic spells, as indexes of their desires and passions. Instruments of their emancipation from their precise, compact, integral and instantaneous relation with life. Such as it was. Precisely. Like we today, now, in like manner have and continuously posit the same desires, the same magic spells for our wishes and our unanchored possessions within the spaces and reflective fields of our own traversals of reality. The body of a naked woman or man as an index of a wish, or a possession, of desiring or withstanding. The precise and monstrous machinery-message for the special position at a distance from and above the others. The symbol of a place in social hierarchy, the seat of my difference rather than unity with the companion other. Body, machinery, position. Symbols and eclectic representations. Material affirmations and narratives, instances and possibilities for installing and maintaining a powerful difference.

But these pointers and assertions are not exhausted in the onedimensional, simplistic representations of material goods, of exotic and luxurious specimens and displays of rare and refined objects. A thorough reading of Hans Holbein der Jungere’s painting “the Ambassadors”, reveals there, in the surrounding filed of placement of the intermediary objects, the complete, encoded cartography of the wishes and projects which then (1533) were turned to strategies and tactics for sovereignty at a global level. The sphere of land- and water expanses, the in depth understanding of the geometry of distances and square meters, the technology for determining the positions and temporal periods of the planet-property, the notebooks of conquests and appropriate locations of rare earth deposits, the woven otherwordly mantle that allows certain things to

Αλλά αυτές οι σημάνσεις και οι επισημάνσεις δεν εξαντλούνται μόνο στις μονοσήμαντες και απλοϊκές απεικονίσεις των υλικών αγαθών, των εξωτικών πολυτελών δειγμάτων και επιδείξεων, των ακραίων και έξοχων αντικειμένων. Διαβάζοντας ενδελεχώς τον πίνακα ‘’the Ambassandors’’ του Hans Holbein der Jungere μπορούμε και εκεί, στην περιέχουσα περιοχή των εγκατεστημένων ενδιάμεσων αντικειμένων, να αναγνωρίσουμε την πλήρη και κωδικοποιημένη χαρτογραφία των θελημάτων και των εγχειρημάτων που τότε (1533) μετατράπηκαν σε στρατηγικές και τακτικές επικυριαρχίας στο πλανητικό πλέον πεδίο. Η σφαίρα των υδάτινων και των γήϊνων εκτάσεων, η κατανόηση και η εμβάθυνση στην γεωμετρία των αποστάσεων και των εμβαδών, η τεχνολογία του υπολογισμού των θέσεων και των χρονικών περιόδων του πλανήτη-κτήματος, τα σημειωματάρια των κατακτήσεων και των επαρκών θέσεων των σπάνιων γαιών και αποθεμάτων, το υφασμάτινο εξώκοσμο παραπέτασμα που ορίζει το τι φαίνεται και τι όχι, τα δείγματα της λογικής, του ρυθμού και του μέτρου των πραγμάτων, τα δείγματα και τους δείκτες των αυστηρών εμπορικών αλλά και των επιστημονικών καταγραφών. Μπορούμε να διαβάσουμε ακόμη τα σημεία δείκτες της ψυχρής και ανηλεούς ματιάς των γραφειοκρατών χειριστών (του πρεσβευτή φορέα και εφαρμοστή της γήινης εξουσίας και του επισκόπου αγγελιοφόρου του θεολογικού πανθέου των ορισμών για την ζωή) του εκτεταμένου νέου πλανητικού χώρου που υπόκειται ήδη στον νέο χρόνο του και του ειδικού χρόνου των μετακινήσεων στην γεωγραφία που περιορίζεται ήδη στον ορισμένο χώρο του καθώς ήδη καταγραφόταν και γινόταν κατανοητός από την αναδυόμενη επιστημονική και εμπορική ελίτ των αναδυόμενων αυτοκρατοριών. Το χώρο, εντέλει και το χρόνο ανάμεσα στα σώματα των σκοτεινών και έγκλειστων μορφών αυτού του πίνακα (του πρεσβευτή και του επισκόπου) που ποτέ δεν πρόκειται να μετακινηθουν στο επόμενο στίγμα χώρου και στην επόμενη στιγμή χρόνου που, εκεί, στο χώρο και το χρόνο της απεικόνισής τους, τους περιείχε. Επί αυτού του ειδικού τεχνικού και ιδεολογικού-σημειωτικού πεδίου απεικονιστικής δυνατότητας σύντομα αλλά και στο μήκος του επόμενου ιστορικού χρόνου δοκιμάστηκαν, εξαπόλυσαν τη σκέψη τους και την τεχνική τους δεινότητα, αναθεώρησαν, διέγνωσαν, μετέτρεψαν και συνέπλεξαν νέες στρατηγικές χειρισμών προτείνοντας και υπερασπίζοντας δυνατότητες απεικόνισης, προσανατολισμού και απελευθέρωσης της δημιουργικής δυνατότητας σειρές τεχνιτών όπως οι Vincent van Gogh, Eugene Delacroix, Francisco Goya, Cezanne, Monet, Gauguin Metzinger, Braque, Matisse και Picasso. Χωρίς καμμία ιδιαίτερη στοχαστική ή κριτική εμπλοκή με το ζωτικό

be seen and others not, the instances of the logic, meter and rhythm of things, the samples and indexes of strict commercial but also scientific recordings... It also reveals the index signs of the cold and relentless gaze of the bureucratic managers (the ambassador-conveyor and bearer of earthly power as well as the bishop-sentinel of the theological pantheon’s definitions of life), the new expanded planetary space already in a new temporal regime and the special time of geographic travel already circumscribed by the understanding of the new commercial and scientific elite of the emerging empires. The space, finally, and the time between the bodies of the painting’s dark and enclosed figures (ambassador and bishop) who are unable to relocate to the next spatial coordinate and the next moment in time after the ones which contained them, there, in the space and time of their representation.

Soon thereafter and in the ensuing historical time, within this specific technical and semiotic-ideological field of representational possibilities a series of artisans such as Vincent van Gogh, Eugene Delacroix, Francisco Goya, Cezanne, Monet, Gauguin Metzinger, Braque, Matisse and Picasso unleashed their thinking and their technical abilities, were tested, reformed their views, conceived, transformed and interwove new strategic manipulations recommending and defending possibilities of representation, orientation and emancipation. They did so with no special critical or reflective engagement with their actions’ vital content or with the essential and already well ensconced question “why do I paint what I can enjoy as is, there, in front of me?” Vacant and ignorant of the reflective potential that was implicit in such an engagement and in the possible and fecund thinking that hinged on it, they proceeded to posit and defend multiple styles of manipulation, thinking nothing of it all and completely excluding the previous vital question.

Even over and above the preceding linear desire for the construction (artisans, constructors) or the acquisition of paintings (buyers, order givers) of objects whose representations included or exclusively signified the social position and power of the persons represented and their financial capacity to possess and display wealth and its accoutrements in all of the hierarchic societies that were emerging into modernity, this diversion of thinking (visual statements/representations of collected objects/ landscapes/ spaces constitutive of power) soon led to the conception and materialisation of the kunstkabinett or Cabinets of Curiosities (or Wonder Rooms). These were display cases, rooms or large halls with collections of unclassified objects from the fields of Physics, Botany, Zoology, Geology,

περιεχόμενο των πράξεών τους αλλά και το ουσιαστικό και ήδη προ πολλού εγκατεστημένο ερώτημα «…γιατί ζωγραφίζω αυτό που μπορώ να απολαύσω ως έχει, εκεί, μπροστά μου;…». Προχώρησαν κενοί και αδαείς της στοχαστικής δυνατότητας που μετέφερε αυτή και οι εξαρτημένες από αυτήν δυνατές και εύφορες σκέψεις στην εγκατάσταση και υπεράσπιση πολλαπλών στιλ χειρισμών νομίζοντας τα ελάχιστα και αποκλείοντας εντελώς το ζωτικό προηγούμενο ερώτημα. Ακόμη περισσότερο και πέρα από την προγενέστερη ευθεία επιθυμία για την κατασκευή (τεχνίτες κατασκευαστές) ή την απόκτηση πινάκων (αγοραστές-παραγγελιοδότες) με αναπαραστάσεις αντικειμένων που ταυτόχρονα ή αποκλειστικά σηματοδοτούσαν την κοινωνική θέση και ισχύ των απεικονιζομένων και την οικονομική δυνατότητά τους να κατέχουν και να επιδεικνύουν τον πλούτο και την ιδιοκτησία του σε όλες τις ιεραρχημένες κοινωνίες που αναδύονταν στη νεοτερικότητα, αυτή η εκτροπή της σκέψης (οπτικές δηλώσειςαπεικονίσεις συλλογών αντικειμένων, τοπίων, συστατικών χώρων της εξουσίας) οδήγησε γρήγορα στην επινόηση και εγκατάσταση των kunstkabinett ή Cabinets of Curiosities (ή Wonder Rooms). Επρόκειτο για προθήκες, δωμάτια ή μεγάλες αίθουσες με συλλογές αταξινόμητων αντικειμένων από τις περιοχές της Φυσικής, της Βοτανικής της Ζωολογίας της Γεωλογίας, της Εθνογραφίας και σπαραγμάτων της Αρχιτεκτονικής. Με τον ίδιο τρόπο και για τις ίδιες αιτίες η ανάγκη της επίδειξης και της απόδειξης της δυνατότητας κατοχής αντικειμένων ως δείκτη και δείγματος κοινωνικής θέσης αλλά και της ψευδαίσθησης της αποκλειστικής εποπτείας επί του κόσμου (του πλήρους καθολικού πλανητικού πεδίου) είχε ως αποτέλεσμα την εμφάνιση αυτών των προνομιακών ιδιωτικών συλλογών. Των δηλώσεων, δηλαδή, ενός είδους ελέγχου επί των χωρικών επικρατειών από όπου προέρχονταν τα αντικείμενα και που, σύντομα ή αμέσως, αυτές οι επικράτειες, θα αποτελούσαν τα πεδία και τα μερίσματα αμέτρητου πλούτου από την εκμετάλλευση των πλουτοπαραγωγικών πηγών τους. Η ανεξάντλητη ποικιλία των δειγμάτων και παραδειγμάτων φυσικών μορφών και καταγραφών (ορυκτά, φυτά, ζώα, τεχνουργήματα, στατιστικές, μετρήσεις, αρχεία παρατηρήσεων) που παρουσιαζόταν αδιακόπως στις αίθουσες και στις ιδιωτικές διαλέξεις των νεοσύστατων επιστημονικών εταιριών εξαιτίας του πληθωρισμού των ευρημάτων και των ανακαλύψεων των πρώϊμων και επόμενων πυκνών επιστημονικών αποστολών και διερευνήσεων (Humbolt, Kook, Darwin, Linnaeus, Buffon) μαρτυρεί επίσης τη σύγκρουση

Ethnoraphy and fragments of Architecture. In a similar manner and for similar reasons, the need for display and proof of the capacity to possess objects as an index of social position and also of the illusion of an exclusive overview of the world (of a full and complete global range) resulted in the appearance of these privileged private collections. Of statements, that is to say, of a kind of control exerted over the spatial realms wherein the objects originated, which realms would soon, perhaps immediately, comprise sources of immeasurable wealth from the exploitation of their natural resources. The inexhaustible variety of the specimens and instances of physical forms and records (minerals, plants, animals, artifacts, statistics, measurements, archives of observations) which was incessantly being presented in the halls and private lectures of the newly fledged scientific companies due to the plethora of finds and discoveries by the early and then the subsequent numerous scientific missions and explorations ( Humbolt, Kook, Darwin, Linnaeus, Buffon) also testifies to a conflict between scientists and collectors within the bounds of a short time period. The conflict, namely, between the system of those who owned the privilege of exploiting the new expanses and the resources therein, who also held the exclusive moral references that defined them as the collection owners (owenrs of objects-onwers of knowledgeowners of power, from the kunstkabinetts to the contemporary museums) and, on the other hand, the emerging group of scientists who sought the acquisition and use of the collections’ contents as supporting ground and evidence for the exquisite evolution of thought.

In all these cases, it was not made possible for the gaze of research to concentrate its prowess on the historical and evolutionary becoming of the societies themselves, which is to say on the people who act, who desire and who determine their identity and also recognize, encode, interrelate and interact among themselves, gather information and thansform it into the technical ability to manage their relationship to nature (including the manifestations and phenomena of natural identity, whether nearby or wider afield. The emerging science, the accompanying unbriddled curiosity, a motivating force underpinning the successive discoveries, the cataclysmic wealth of exotic finds, the enthusiasm for the ordering and classification of the new knowledge, left no margin for concentrating on the refined differentiations and reflective nuances in the thinking of any one person. Collections and the emerging science, the owners and the explorers, the planet’s new moral reading but also the creation of new codes by the powerful and still fledgling method of that planet’s comprehension belonged, and would do so for

Την σύγκρουση δηλαδή μεταξύ του συστήματος των κατόχων των προνομίων εκμετάλλευσης των νέων εκτάσεων και των περιεχομένων πλουτοπαραγωγικών πηγών τους που, ταυτόχρονα, κατείχαν και τις αποκλειστικές ηθικές αναφορές ορισμού και επιβολής τους ως κατόχων των συλλογών (κάτοχοι αντικειμένων-κάτοχοι γνώσης-κάτοχοι εξουσίας, από τα kunstkabinetts έως τα σύγχρονα μουσεία) και, στην άλλη πλευρά, της αναδυόμενης ομάδας των επιστημόνων που επεδίωκαν την απόκτηση και χρήση των περιεχομένων των συλλογών ως υποβάθρων και πειστηρίων της έξοχης εξέλιξης της σκέψης. Σε όλες αυτές τις περιπτώσεις το διερευνητικό βλέμμα δεν μπόρεσε να επικεντρώσει το ενδιαφέρον του στο ιστορικό και εξελικτικό γίγνεσθαι των ίδιων κοινωνιών, στην δυνατότητα, δηλαδή, των ανθρώπων που δρούν, επιθυμούν και καθορίζουν την ταυτότητά τους, να αναγνωρίζουν επίσης, να κωδικοποιούν, να συσχετίζονται, να διαντιδρούν, να συλλέγουν πληροφορία και να την μετατρέπουν σε τεχνική δυνατότητα διευθέτησης της σχέσης τους με τη φύση. Στις ίδιες εκδηλώσεις και τα φαινόμενα της εγγύς και ευρύτερης περιβάλλουσας φυσικής ταυτότητας. Η αναδυόμενη επιστήμη, η συνοδός έξαλη περιέργεια, κινητήρια δύναμη και υπόβαθρο των αλλεπάλληλων ανακαλύψεων, ο κατακλυσμιαίος πλούτος των εξωτικών ευρημάτων, ο ενθουσιασμός των διευθετήσεων και των κωδικοποιήσεων της νέας γνώσης δεν άφησαν περιθώρια συγκέντρωσης της προσοχής στις λεπτεπίλεπτες διαφοροποιήσεις και τα στοχαστικά ζυγίσματα της σκέψης του οποιουδήποτε ανθρώπου. Οι συλλογές και η αναδυόμενη επιστήμη, οι κάτοχοι και οι ερευνητές, η νέα ηθική ανάγνωση του πλανήτη αλλά και η δημιουργία των νέων κωδίκων της ισχυρής και ασύντακτης ακόμη μεθόδου της κατανόησής του ανήκαν και θα ανήκαν για πολύ καιρό ακόμη στην δυνατότητα και την επιθυμία μιας ελάχιστης ομάδας συνεπαρμένων ανιχνευτών ανθρώπων. Πριν επιχειρηθεί η περιγραφή και η υπεράσπιση της ψηφιακής δυνατότητας ως πλήρους και οριστικού καταλυτικού παράγοντα της ανθρώπινης έκφρασης, υπόβαθρου και οχυρού της δυνατότητας του οποιουδήποτε ανθρώπου να αναγνωρίζει, να κωδικοποιεί, να περιγράφει και να υπερασπίζεται την προσωπική πλέον επικράτεια των έργων και του λόγου του θα πρέπει να συμπυκνώσουμε με ακρίβεια, να διευκρινήσουμε περισσότερο ορισμένες από τις προηγούμενες φράσεις πυρήνες και δεξαμενές ισχυρού νοήματος.

Before we attempt to describe and mount a defence of the digital process as a full and final catalyst in human expression, as substratum and citadel of any man’s capacity to recognize, encode, describe and defend the now personal realm of his works and speech, we need to condense with precision and further specify certain of the previously used key phrases and loci of potent meaning.

By the phrase “as instruments of their emancipation from their precise, compact, integral and instantaneous relation with life...”is meant that at a historical moment, the expressive ability of the artisan-constructor of the representation, and of the faithful spectator and consumer of that representation, continues to be guided by magic, that is, by the attribution to objects of qualities that were irrational and could modify life.

That which is being depicted exists somewhere and is desirable, despite the fact that before me only its image appears. What is depicted I have possessed, I desire it, I am at liberty to desire it and by means of this descriptive advent (the painting) I declare its false ownership at every moment.

The phrase “ … why do I paint what I can enjoy as is, there, in front of me?” signifies and strictly defines the reflective and rational inability to negotiate the energy of the image’s construction. Since the object of my desire (the landscape, the collection of objects, the collection of exotic and valuable fruit and foodstuffs, the naked available body) cannot hold still my body, by gaze, my thoughts, my momentum, then, my craving for it shifs into a passionate deviation and it transforms the potential reality of a rich, instantaneous relationship into image, facsimile, coinage, into a theorem and an axiom about the properties of the world.

The phrase “... they were unable to relocate to the next spatial coordinate and the next moment in time which contained them”, signifies and defines the exceptional difference which nowadays separates the instances of human expression in many sections of the history of life’s representations (- certainly in landscape painting, nude studies, portraiture and in the representational invention of the still life) into everything that was constructed before the general sway of digital audio-visual media (within the last twenty years in the history of the expressive arts) and all the readings and artifacts subsequently created and proposed. The new technology for collecting, imparting

Με την φράση «…γιατί ζωγραφίζω αυτό που μπορώ να απολαύσω ως έχει, εκεί, μπροστά μου;…» εννοείται και ορίζεται αυστηρά η στοχαστική και λογική αδυναμία διαπραγμάτευσης της ενέργειας της κατασκευής του ειδώλου. Εφόσον τον αντικείμενο του πόθου μου (το τοπίο, η συλλογή αντικειμένων, η συλλογή σπάνιων και σπουδαίων φρούτων και τροφίμων, το γυμνό διαθέσιμο σώμα) δεν μπορεί να συγκρατήσει ακίνητο το σώμα μου, το βλέμμα μου, τη σκέψη μου, την ορμή μου, η ορμή μου γι’αυτό μετατρέπεται σε παθιασμένη παρέκκλιση και μετασχηματίζει την δυνατή πραγματικότητα μιας ακαριαίας πλούσιας σχέσης σε εικόνα, σε εικόνισμα, σε νόμισμα, σε ανόητο θεώρημα και αξίωμα για τις ιδιότητες του κόσμου. Με την φράση «…δεν μπόρεσαν να επανακάμψουν στο επόμενο στίγμα χώρου και στην επόμενη στιγμή χρόνου που τους περιείχε...» εννοείται και ορίζεται η εξαιρετική διαφορά που διαχωρίζει πλέον τα δείγματα της ανθρώπινης έκφρασης σε πολλές ενότητες της ιστορίας των αναπαραστάσεων της ζωής (οπωσδήποτε στην τοπιογραφία, στο γυμνό, στα πορτραίτα και στην still life αναπαραστατική εφεύρεση) σε όσα κατασκευάστηκαν πριν την γενική εφαρμογή των ψηφιακών οπτικο-ακουστικών μέσων (τα είκοσι τελευταία χρόνια της ιστορίας της έκφρασης) και σε όσα αναγνώσματα και ποιήματα γεννιούνται και προτείνονται μετά. Η νέα τεχνολογία συλλογής, απόδοσης και εγκατάστασης νοήματος μετακινεί την ασκητική υποχρέωση του δημιουργού από την τεχνική εξειδίκευση σε μία ή περισσότερες χειροπρακτικές διαδικασίες αναπαράστασης (ζωγραφίζω, σχεδιάζω, τοιχογραφώ, φωτογραφίζω) στην απλή έμπειρη χρήση μιας μηχανής ψηφιακής συλλογής ήχου και εικόνας και στην αμέσως μετά στοχαστική, αναλυτική και λογική επένδυση του αποκτημένου αρχείου με λόγο ή/και κείμενο.

Ορίζεται λοιπόν εδώ, με αφορμή αυτή τη νέα έκθεση ψηφιακών αρχείων (video) υπό τον τίτλο STILL LIFE ‘’...για την κριτική των εκφραστικών τακτικών που περιέχονται και καθορίζουν το ιδεολογικό υπόστρωμα και την κωδικοποίηση...» μία νέα εύφορη περιοχή δυνατών καθορισμών νοήματος και απλών τεχνικών πειθαρχιών που αποδεσμεύουν τον στοχαστή δημιουργό και σχολιαστή της ζωής από τις εργαλειακές προϋποθέσεις γύμνασης και άσκησης στην κατασκευή ενός υλικού αποτελέσματος (ελαιογραφία, υδατογραφία, σχέδιο, φωτογραφία) και μεταφέρουν τον συστατικό και σημαντικό πυρήνα της διαπραγμάτευσης και της απόδειξης του χειρισμού (κατασκευάζω τον πίνακα και αιτιολογώ την ανάγκη της κατασκευής του) στη σκέψη, το λόγο, το κείμενο, την οπτικοηχογραφημένη συνοδό απόδωση. Η εφεύρεση, η κατακλυσμιαία παραγωγή, η ανεμπόδιστη εγκατάσταση και η απελευθέρωση της ψηφιακής τεχνολογίας ανάκτησης και συλλογής οπτικο-ακουστικού υλικού καθώς και η στρατηγική διάθεση στο ψηφιακό συνεχές υπερ-αποθηκών (YouTube, Vimeo, Tumblr, Facebook, Ubu, YouPorn, BigThink, T.E.D.) τοποθέτησης και κατά βούληση διαχείρησης και διάθεσης κάθε συλλογής προτύπων σκέψης και ιδεών ορίζουν τη νέα εποχή, περιοχή και δυνατότητα παραγωγής, διαπραγμάτευσης και πλήρους διανομής των ιδεών και των σχολίων μας για τη ζωή. Ο έλεγχος και η αποκλειστική χωρική και πολιτική οριοθέτηση των συλλογών και των ευρημάτων, των σχολίων και των σχολών του 18ου, του 19ου και του 20ου αιώνων όχι μόνο χάνει την σύνδεσή του με τα κέντρα εξουσίας ως αποκλειστικών νομέων και ελεγκτών της διάθεσής του αλλά, τουναντίον, μεταφέρεται ταχύτατα και διατίθεται στο ψηφιακό συνεχές δίκτυο γνώσης και τεχνικής δυνατότητας. Οι θεματικές περιοχές απεικονίσεων και συγκρότησης ισχυρού συστατικού και κατευθυντήριου νοήματος για τη ζωή όπως ήταν η τοπιογραφία, το γυμνό, το still life, οδηγούνται πλέον σε μία καινοφανή και καινοτόμο εκφραστική περιοχή που εδράζεται αποκλειστικά και ισχυρά στην πολυ-μεσική (multimedia) δυνατότητα και τεχνολογία. Σκεπτόμαστε, σχολιάζουμε, σχεδιάζουμε και συγκροτούμε, πλεόν, σύντομες και διαρκέστερες συλλογές αναφορών για τη ζωή συλλέγοντας υλικό, επικεντρώνοντας το βλέμμα-φακό και κάμερα είτε σε ένα σταθερό σημείο (ψηφιακή συνέντευξη-προσωπογραφία, γυμνό, διάλεξη) είτε σε μία ολόκληρη περιοχή νοήματος (τοπίο, still life) καθώς η δυνατότητα της συλλογής φυσικού ήχου και εικόνας «όπως συνέβη εκεί όπου συνέβη» είναι ακριβής και πλουσιότερη όσο ποτέ πριν.

On the occasion, then, of this new exhibition of digital files (video) titled STILL LIFE “...on the critique of the expressive strategies that are contained within and determine the ideological substratum and encoding...” a new frutiful realm is defined here of possible determinations of meaning and simple technical disciplines which emancipate the creator and life commentator from the instrumental prerequisites for the training and construction of a material outcome (oil painting, water color, sketch, photography) and transfer the constitutive and significant nucleus of the negotiation and validation of the gesture (I construct this painting and justify the need for its construction) to thought, discourse, the text, the accompanying audio-visual rendering.

The invention, the cataclysmic production, the unobstructed installation and the freeing of digital technology for the retrieval and collection of audiovisual material, together with the strategic availability of hyper storage in the digital continuum (YouTube, Vimeo, Tumblr, Facebook, Ubu, YouPorn, BigThink, T.E.D.) for the safekeeping and managing at will of every collection of prototypes of thoughts and ideas, define the new era, realm and capacity for production, negotiation and full distribution of our notions and comments on life. The control and the exclusive spatial and political delineating of finds and collections, schools and commentaries, of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries not only lose their connection with the centers of power as exclusive providers and controllers of its distribution, but, on the contrary ,they are rapidly transferred and disseminated on the network of the digital continuum of knowledge and technical know-how.

The thematic sectors of representation, such as landscape paiting, the nude figure, the still life, which entailed powerful guidelines re. the meaning of life, are now being led into a novel, cutting-edge expressive realm that resides exclusively witinin the possibilities of multimedia technology. We now think up, comment on, design and contrive brief and more enduring collections of references to life by accumulating material by focusing the lens-gaze-camera either on a fixed point (online interview-portrait, nude, lecture) or on an entire area of mean-

Ταυτοχρόνως, η ποικιλία της θεματογραφίας, η εγκυρότητα και ακρίβεια του οπτικο-ακουστικού βηματισμού, η πυκνότητα και αποτελεσματικότητα της άρρηκτης ηχητικής αφήγησης και της είτε συγχρονισμένης είτε προϊσταμένης κειμενικής καθοδήγησης και αποκάλυψης του ιδεολογικού αισθητικού πυρήνα κάθε ταχύτατου σχολίου (μονόλεπτο μονοπλάνο) ή κάθε ιδιαίτερα απαιτητικού και διαρκέστερου σε χρόνο αφηγήματος (ντοκιμαντέρ) συμβαδίζει με και πανηγυρίζει για τον κατακλυσμό πληροφορίας που εκδίδεται και ακαριαία μεταδίδεται στο πυκνότατο δίκτυο της ψηφιακής αποκάλυψης. Οι νέες «εξωτικές» επιστήμες, τεχνολογίες και τεχνικές (βιοτεχνολογία, νανο-μηχανική, ρομποτική, αερο-διαστημική, Τρισδιάστατη εκτύπωση, Δια-δρόντα υλικά, Εξελικτική Βιολογία, Νευροεπιστήμη, Τεχνητή νοημοσύνη) προμηθεύουν τον οπτικο-ακουστικό αναγνώστη με μυριάδες εφαλτήρια, εναύσματα, θρυαλλίδες εξαπόλυσης και πλοήγησης της σκέψης και της δημιουργικής πρακτικής του. Η παλαιοτέχνη (ό,τι γνωρίζαμε και σε ό,τι υποτάσσαμε την νοημοσύνη μας) έχει ήδη χάσει την πρωτοκαθεδρία του ελέγχου και της δέσμευσης περιοχών νοήματος και στρατηγικών εξόρυξης, διαπαγμάτευσης, απόδοσης και επένδυσής του. Το ρομποτικό μηχάνημα curiosity που εξαπολύθηκε, διέγραψε την αδιάσπαστη τροχιά του και προσεδαφίστηκε στον πλανήτη Άρη είναι ένα επίτευγμα και κομψοτέχνημα της ανθρώπινης συλλογικής προσπάθειας και διασυνδεδεμένης νοημοσύνης που άφησε πολύ πίσω του καθεμιά και όλες τις παραφωνίες και τα οπτικά εγχειρήματα του φουτουρισμού και του κονστρουκτιβισμού. Το αεροσκαφος Α380 AIRBUS αποτελεί ήδη ένα υπερσύστημα αναφοράς και στοχασμού που διεμβόλησε και ακύρωσε κάθε αμήχανο και άτακτο εφεύρημα του υπερ-ρεαλιστικού πάνθεου εικόνων και γεγονότων. Το γιγαντιαίο μικροσκόπιο CERN αλλά και ο οικοδομούμενος διαρκώς θερμοπυρηνικός αντιδραστήρας ITER καθώς και ο πολυεθνικός πληθυσμός των υπηρετών ερευνητών τους, αποτελούν τον καινοφανή, διαρκή και απαραβίαστο νοηματικό θύλακα γεγονότων για την επανεγγραφή του γνωσιακού ιστού συνδεσμώσεων για τη ζωή και την υλική μέχρι πριν λίγο, υπόσταση αυτής της συνθήκης: την τεχνική των φτωχών απεικονίσεών των αντικειμένων. Για αυτό που ήταν το ζωτικό και κυρίαρχο γνωσιακό υπόβαθρο της ζωής (πίνακας, τοιχογραφία, χαρακτικό, φωτογραφία) και δεν είναι πλέον. Simultaneously, the thematic variety, authority and exactitude of the audio-visual advancement, the density and effectiveness of the smooth audal narrative and the, either sunchronised or voiced over textual guidance and disclosure of the aesthetic and ideological core, whether of a speedy comment (one minute long single frame) or a specially demanding and lengthier narrative (documentary) ,falls in step with and rejoices over the cataclysm of information that is issued and instantly transmitted along the dense net of digital revelation.

The new ‘exotic’ sciences, technologies and techniques (Biotechnology, Nanomechanics, Robotics, Aerospace engineering, 3-D printing, Interactional materials, Evolutionary Biology, Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence) provide the audio-visual reader with myriads of prompts, jumping points, triggers for unleashing and navigating of his creative thinking and practices.

The olden arts (everything we knew and under which we subsumed our intelligence) have already lost primacy in the control and circumscribing of areas of meaning and strategies for its mining, negotiation, rendering and investment. The robot-craft Curiosity that was launched, completed its unbroken trajectory and landed on planet Mars, is a work of art and an achievement of communal human effort and interlinked intelligence which left far behind each and every one of the misadventures and visual advents of futurism and constructivism. The A380 Airbus is already a hyper system of references and reflection which dislodged and discredited every awkard and disordered invention in the surrealist pantheon of images and events. The giant microscope CERN, as well as the currently under construction, nuclear station ITER, alongside the multiethnic population of their servant-researchers, comprise an innovative, ongoing and inviolable significatory environment for the reinscription of the network of epistemic interconnections of life and of the, up until recently, material dimension of that condition: the technique of the poor representations of objects. For what used to be the vital and paramount epistemic foundation of life (painting, mural, engraving, photograph) and is that no longer.

The already present, installed and available technology and technique (phones and video cameras, i-pad and quad copters) alongside with the accompanying and upcoming utilitarian recording instruments and their accoutrements, which restrict,

καταγραφικά εργαλεία και τα υπόλοιπά τους που συμβάλλουν, περιορίζουν ή διαταράσσουν δημιουργικά την καθημερινή μας σχέση με τον στοχασμό για τη ζωή (ηχογράφηση ποικίλων σχολίων, θορύβων και ακατέργαστου ήχου όπως βρίσκεται εκεί όπου βρίσκεται και συν-δηλώνεται καταγραφικά) μπορούν και διαθέτουν ήδη τις χωρο- χρονικές καταγεγραμμένες ποικιλίες και εκδοχές των νέων συλλογών ποιημάτων και παραδειγμάτων στον οπτικο-ακουστικό αναγνώστη τους. Μία ομάδα οχημάτων σταθμευμένων σε ένα χορταριασμένο οικόπεδο (+φυσικός ήχος), ένας σωρός μαρμάρινων ογκόλιθων στην παρυφή ενός εξορυκτικού πεδίου (+φυσικός ήχος), ο σωρός των κουφαριών ανακυκλωμένων οχημάτων (+φυσικός ήχος), ο σωρός από δεσμίδες άχυρου σε ένα αέναο και διαρκές πεδίο καλλιεργειών (+φυσικός ήχος), το ερείπιο μιας γέφυρας και η ποικιλία των τεχνικών συνδηλώσεων στο εγγύς όριό της (+φυσικός ήχος), οι μία και οι πολλές αίθουσες γεγονότων και εκθεμάτων κάπου στον κόσμο των προτάσεων και των δεσμεύσεων νοήματος (+φυσικός ήχος), ακαθόριστοι, άχρονοι και αταίριαστοι εσωτερικοί χώροι και μηχανήματα που έχουν ήδη μεταφέρει κάθε λεπτομέρεια και κάθε συνθετικό και αισθητικό εφεύρημα από τα ερείπια της παλαιοτέχνης στην περιοχή και το πεδίο ενός πολυ-ριζωματικού γηπέδου επαν-εφεύρεσης και επανεγγραφής του άμεσου και του διαρκούς διαλόγου, των ενθουσιωδών και ασταθών ακόμη καθοδηγητικών κειμένων για την έκφραση και τον σχολιασμό της ζωής υπό την νέα οπτική και αισθητική συνθήκη καταγραφών και ανιχνεύσεων της. Η ποικιλία της θεματολογίας και η διαθέσιμη στοχαστική δυνατότητα του παρατηρητή της, η διάθεση και εξυπηρέτηση κάθε ειδικής και γενικής στρατηγικής σκόπευσης και προσανατολισμού του ενδιαφέροντος, η απλή και διαθέσιμη καταγραφική τεχνολογία αλλά και η ενιαία και ακαριαία αρχειοθέτηση, ανάκληση, διευθέτηση και κειμενική ανίχνευσή της ήδη συνδέθηκαν. Οι συνδεσμολογίες αυτές καθώς και η ελεύθερη διάθεση και δια-συνδεσιμότητα με τον μοναδικό και τους άπειρους επισκέπτες κάθε έκθεσής της στο ψηφιακό συνεχές αποτελούν πλέον τη νέα περιοχή στοχασμού και την νέα τεχνική μέθοδο της αναλυτικής μερικής διαπραγμάτευσης της πραγματικότητας. Βρισκόμαστε ήδη σε ένα νέο και αχαρτογράφητο πεδίο χώρου, χρόνου, διανοητικών συνδεσμολογιών και ακατάστατων ή εύπλαστων σχέσεων. Στο σημείο της εξαπόλυσης του ανεξέλεγκτου καινοφανούς αισθητικού ενδιαφέροντος. Δεν ψάχνουμε για τον επανα-καθορισμό ή τον διακανονισμό του περιεχομένου ενός οικείου, μερικού και κορεσμένου ερωτήματος. Κοιτάζουμε, επιθυμούμε και πάλι, συλλέγουμε και σχολιάζουμε το περιεχόμενο των νέων και πλουσιότατων συλλογών δειγμάτων της ζωής. Ας παίξουμε.

A group of vehicles parked in a weedy lot (+natural sound) the pile of marble plinths at the perimeter of a mining site (+natural sound), the stack of the carcasses of recycled vehicles (+natural sound), the piled bundles of hay in an endless field of perennial cultivation (+natural sound), the ruin of a bridge and the variety of technical connotations at its near borders (+natural sound), the one and the many halls of events and exhibits somewhere in the world of proposals and bindings of meaning (+natural sound), indeterminate, timeless and incongruous interiors and gadgetry that has already transferred every detail and every synthetic and aesthetic invention from the ruins of the olden arts into the area and realm of a multi-rhizomatic field of re-invention and re-inscription of the instantaneous and continuous dialogue, of the enthusiastic and as yet unstable guiding texts for the expression and commentary of life under the new visual and aesthetic condition of its exploration and registration.

The thematic variety and the reflective capacity available to its observer, the availability and servicing of every particular and general strategy for the targetting and angling of interest, the straightforward and available technology for recording as well as for unified and instantaneous filing, retrieval, ordering and textual detection, all have already been interlinked. These intelinks, alongside the unlimited availability and interconnectivity with the one or the infinite visitors of every display on the digital continuum are now the new field of reflection and the new technical method for the analytic (partial?) negotiation of reality.

We are already in a new and uncharted field of space, time, abstract interlinks and disordered or malleable relations. We are at the point of the unleashing of the uncontrollable, innovative, aesthetic interest. We are not looking for the re-definition or the canonization of the content of a familiar, partial and satiated question. We are gazing at, desiring anew, collecting and commenting on, the content of the new and extremely rich collections of instances of life.

Iordanis Stylidis is an Assistant professor at Volos Department of Architecture. He holds a diploma of Architecture and a diploma of Economic Theory from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki-Hellas and the Macedonian University of Thessaloniki-Hellas. He is constantly involved in multiple public arts practices since 1980 including 17 solo exhibitions, 6 performances, 2 installations and 20 digital diaries.

Additionally he is the author of multiple essays of criticism referring to various performance artists called ‘’answering to’’. He is the author of the books ‘’The Geography of Water’’ (NISIDES, Thessaloniki 2006), ‘’Transporting Memories’’ (CANNOTNOT EDITIONS, Thessaloniki 2009), and ‘’An urban Block’’ (KENTRI, Thessaloniki, 2013).

He is also the athor of multiple digital diaries reffering to educational voyages, documentation and design workshops and personal stochastic evaluations of the urban environment and the open landscapes.
