Play can mitigate trauma and so to ensure our children have the opportunities to play that are essential for them to thrive, the International Play Association (IPA) has developed IPA Play in Crisis: Support for Parents and Carers. This resource, available for free to anyone, supports our understanding that play is a basic and vital part of childhood. We also see it as an essential part of all aspects of children's development. During crisis, play has a significant therapeutic role, helping children recover a sense of normality and joy. Originally developed in 2020 in response to the COVID pandemic, this 2022 version has been translated into Ukrainian to help those helping children cope with the war in Ukraine.
