YOU'RE INVITED: SEE THE WORLD FROM A NEW PERSPECTIVE
BY DAVID SEAMON, ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF FAMILIES AND OUTREACH
“This will change your life,” he said. Really? Could that be true? I’ve traveled internationally and participated on mission trips as a teenager, but he was right. I am forever changed emotionally and spiritually, just as Kennon Walthall predicted. It wasn’t just seeing exploitation and poverty up close or learning about broken systems and politics. It was in the connections made and relationships built. It was standing in a place where countless other IPC members have stood and seeing the way God has been at work for decades.
Mission journeys at IPC are more than an opportunity to serve others; they are transformational experiences that deepen our faith and broaden our understanding of the world. They push us out of our comfort zones, where we learn to rely on God's guidance. Each trip is designed to build lasting partnerships based on mutuality and reciprocity.
This year, we had teams travel to Malawi, Chiapas, Nairobi, Dominican Republic, and Mwandi. They spent a total of

THIS “
God's Gifts”
Dear IPC Friends, Christmas is that time of year when we give special attention to the greatest gift the world has ever been given: the Christ child. In the gift of the Son, God has given us himself and has promised to always be with us. Nothing our world can give us could ever compare to this treasure. And while this gift is something we experience every day of our lives, we do set apart some special time during the season of Advent to reflect on what God has given us in Christ. This is reason we give gifts at Christmas. Having received God’s gift of the Christ child, we now give in response to God’s generosity as both an act of gratitude as well as an act of discipleship. After all, Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth”(Matthew 6:24). And in giving back generously from the resources God has entrusted to us, we are not only demonstrating that Jesus is Lord of our lives, but we are also binding ourselves to him by trusting that he will provide. Giving both reveals and increases the reality that we are disciples of Jesus.
This is why the theme of our stewardship campaign this year is “We Give!” When we give to the ministry of Jesus Christ through his church, we demonstrate that we have been paying attention to what God has been doing in our lives, we show our gratitude for the greatest gift of all in Christ, and we declare our commitment to Jesus and his mission, which is the whole reason we are here. You might even say, to paraphrase the hymn,“They will know we are Christians by our generous giving.” Giving is what we do as followers of Jesus.
In worship during the season of Advent, we are going to consider some of the gifts that Christ came to give us.The traditional gifts that we celebrate during Advent are hope, peace, joy and love. This year we are going to look at several encounters that Jesus had with people in the Gospel of John as we consider a few other gifts Jesus brings us, including healing (5:1-9),living water (4:1-26),grace (8:2-11),and eternal life (3:11-18).
Come celebrate the Season with us!

need the help of other citizens who have been abroad for a while to remind us about our true home, to show us how to live faithfully amidst the pressures of the culture around us, and how to be salt and light in a dark and decaying world by reflecting in our life together the love and grace and righteousness of God revealed in Jesus Christ.’” These journeys provide us a glimpse of what it means to be citizens of Heaven. They are about being willing to see the world from a new perspective, build relationships, and be transformed. We saw what Jesus meant by “trusting the seed” and sowing the power of love everywhere you can.
At the Global Mission Celebration a few weeks ago, we reflected on this year’s incredible journeys and looked ahead to 2025’s mission opportunities. We would love for you to join us on a journey as we continue to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world.
God has much in store for us in the future, and we invite you to join us and IPC’s mission partners to make a difference in the world! If you are interested in mission travel with IPC in 2025 or have questions, please contact me at dseamon@ipc-usa.org or Kennon Walthall.

75TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY HOME TOUR
BY JAMIE HILL, HOLIDAY HOUSE COMMITTEE CHAIR
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the IPC Holiday House Tour.
Seventy-five wonderful years of beautiful homes, countless volunteers, and raising money to give back to our community. I feel honored to lead the Holiday House Committee on such a milestone year. Our team has been working hard to make this year exceptional. In honor of this special anniversary, we are also adding an extra touch of fun to the tour. In addition to three wonderful homes and our beautiful sanctuary, this year’s tour will also include a tour of beautifully decorated dollhouses displayed in the Parlor of IPC.
YOU'RE INVITED: SATURDAY, DEC. 14
Join the Holiday House Committee on the second Saturday of December where we will spend the day hosting and greeting friends, both old and new, into homes adorned with greenery, holly, and the smells of Christmas for our seventy-fifth time as IPC once again puts on this cherished event.
We have three beautiful homes on the tour, each with its own distinctive style for one day only on December 14 from 10 am4 pm. The tickets to tour these homes as well as the beautiful IPC sanctuary and dollhouses will be $40. We will also have the seated Afternoon Tea from 1-4 pm in the IPC Great Hall. Tickets for the Tea and
Tour are $75. There will be delicious scones, biscuits, finger sandwiches, and sweets from our very own Holiday House Cookbook in the lovely surroundings of our Great Hall. Children under 12 are welcome and can attend the home Tours and Tea with a parent for $20.
The Holiday House Committee is excited to announce the Kennamer and Bruno Home in Forest Park, Dumas Home in Mountain Brook, and Henderson Home in Mountain Brook for the tour. We are very grateful for their generosity. In addition, a preview party will be held for IPC members on Thursday, December 12 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the home of Cathy and Tommy Adams. This party has a limited number of tickets available for purchase.
Since 1949, this tour has been a vital part of IPC’s community outreach, generating funds for programs that directly benefit women and children in need. Net proceeds of this year's event will go to IPC Food Ministries, First Light Women’s Shelter, Children’s Fresh Air Farm/Summer Learning Program & Presbyterian Home for Children. The purchase of a $40 Tour ticket can help:
• Feed four families healthy produce using our free mobile pop-up markets in the community
• Provide seven students at Hayes K-8 with a weekend buddy bag of simple meals and healthy snacks
• Provide four residents at First Light Women’s Shelter with milk and a basic breakfast for a month
• Provide a child with a new set of warm winter clothes at the Presbyterian Home for Children
HOW IPC MEMBERS CAN SUPPORT THIS WORTHY CAUSE
We encourage everyone to purchase tickets and celebrate with us on Saturday, December 14 for the tour and tea. You can purchase tickets at ipcholidayhouse.com, at IPC (3100 Highland Avenue, 35205) during daily office hours, on Sundays in the IPC Parlor, as well as at each home on the day of the Tour. Tickets make wonderful gifts for friends, family, teachers, neighbors, and caregivers. There are also many ways you can serve for this event. Watch for emails and messages asking you to sign up for a shift to work at one of the homes or the Afternoon Tea. Whatever your strength is, we would love for you to help us!
Questions? Please email holidayhouse@ ipc-usa.org with any questions about this year’s event, and we will be happy to help you. Learn more at ipcholidayhouse.com.

IPC FOUNDATION
Youth Grant Team
BY SPENCER COBBS, IPC YOUTH ELDER, SENIOR AT MTN. BROOK HIGH SCHOOL
I’ve been fortunate to serve on the IPC Youth Grant Team for the past two autumns. The Youth Grant Team gives juniors and seniors a chance to learn how the IPC Foundation works, the role of grant requests, and how organizations operate.
Before joining, I knew little about reviewing grants and donating to nonprofits, or about the many organizations making a positive impact in Birmingham and abroad. A unique part of the program is that it’s entirely student led, from researching organizations to discussions and final decisions. This year, we started in September, splitting into Mission, Charitable, and Education teams to review grant requests. Each team created a top four list, and we then narrowed it down to five site visits. From there, decisions are made by our group on how to allocate $20,000 to well deserving organizations.

TUTORS NEEDED
Volunteer at Stair 3.0
BY BECKY WRIGHT, DIRECTOR OF THE CHILDREN’S FRESH AIR FARM
At IPC, we know that the road to a better Birmingham is paved with books, which is why we are nothing short of excited to continue working with 3rd grade students again this year through our partnership with STAIR Birmingham and Hayes K-8!
Each Tuesday and Wednesday, dedicated volunteers work one-on-one with a 3rd grade student, focusing on the student’s individual literacy needs. By the end of the fall semester alone, each student will have access to 19 hours of tutoring, which translates into over 200 hours of collective impact! Are you interested in helping a 3rd grader read better and dream bigger? Sign up at stairbirmingham.org today.
We are actively seeking volunteers for Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15 pm. No experience in education is required to support a student’s literacy journey, just a desire to make an impact. All materials and training are provided prior to your first session with your student.
Interested, but can’t commit to a Tuesday or Wednesday each week? Sign up to be a substitute tutor! Substitutes help keep pages turning and our world in orbit. Reach out to Becky Wright at bwright@ipc-usa.org or 205-601-5608 for more information.

SUPPORTING OUR CHURCH'S MISSION
BY CLARENCE JAMES, STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR
As we look back at the past year, the profound impact of our church, IPC, on my family becomes clear. The last 12 months have been filled with memorable events like the Day School graduation, the Seed Packing Party, Kids Rock, and the spring musical. We also attended numerous worship services and Sunday school classes. These enriching experiences were made possible by our dedicated IPC staff and the generosity of our church members.
The Stewardship Committee encourages everyone to consider pledging to the church. Your support plays a crucial role in sustaining and initiating ministries that benefit our community. Pledging can be done conveniently through mail, online, or via text. Our church embodies the spirit of giving, which is central to our faith. Contributions to IPC are vital in
forwarding Christ’s mission within our faith community and beyond.
The momentum within our church is palpable, with over 200 adults enhancing their faith through Grace Groups and more than 300 children and youth participating in summer events. The "Home on Highland" event exemplified this energy, leading to the expansion of our adult Sunday School classes. Such growth is made possible through your continued generosity.
THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING
Looking to the future, IPC remains committed to a vision of bold and faithful giving, aiming to become a tithing church by donating 10% of received pledges to local and global missions. This commitment ensures that we maintain high-quality ministries for all age groups and care for our beautiful church properties and dedicated staff.
Our outreach extends beyond our congregation locally impacting lives through IPC’s food ministry, social services, and homelessness programs. In 2024, 28 members embarked on international mission journeys to places like Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Africa, embodying the hands and feet of Christ.
In this time of rising costs, we invite you to consider increasing your pledge by 10% or 5% to meet challenges and enhance IPC’s influence. Our goal is to reach $3.45 million in pledges for 2025. As Jesus taught in Matthew 10:8, "Freely you have received; freely give." Reflecting on our blessings, let us give generously to further Christ’s mission. Make your pledge today and join us in making a difference.
HOW WE GIVE
• Mail your pledge card to the church.
• Place your pledge card in the offering plate during a worship service.
• Text PLEDGE to (205) 927-3100 and simply follow the prompts.

From May 31 to June 9, 2025, a group of members and friends of IPC will journey together to Rome, Italy, under the guidance of Dr. Jeff Leonard, Professor of Biblical and Religious Studies at Samford University.
