ZLD (ZERO LIQUID DISCHARGE) PLANT FOR BEVCAN 98% WATER RECOVERY
The installation of new lines of Al Cans in countries where the supply and discharge of water is a problem makes it virtually essential to apply closed circuit water purification technologies for their total reuse. Attention to the environment and reduction of water consumption are an additional stimulus for which the company Bevcan wanted to install a ZLD on their new aluminum cans line in Luanda (Angola) Since June that plant is active and fully functional and thanks to ZLD technology it recovers and reuses more than 98% of the water from the washing machines. CIE oversaw design and turnkey construction of the ZLD plant.
CIE technology, already widely used for years in other areas of Aluminum treatment (Extrusion, Anodic Oxidation, etc) is applied for the first time to the area of Al. Cans, generating water whose quality is even higher than those of raw water thanks to the combination of cutting-edge technologies: Nanofiltration, UF and Super RO. The final rejects are recovered and sent back to cycle too, thanks to a multi-effect vacuum evaporator powered by heat from cogeneration. Thus also energy costs are totally canceled. The economic budget management is very much in line with the cost of a good classic sewage treatment plant.

Water saving and cancellation of disposal costs give more economic and logistic advantages Bevcan Angola, in the first 100 days of work with ZLD, has realized savings for more than 24.000 m3 of water and, thanks to cogeneration, with zero energetic costs. Two other ZLD plants, made by CIE, are in the process of assembly and start-up is expected by the end of 2015. The future has begun. Forecasts of CIE study center are that within the next five years more than 50% of the treatment plants for Al Cans will be realized with ZLD technology.
